Yes, I totally read a cookbook. Cover to cover. In one sitting.

Don't judge me.

I'm ridiculously obsessed with World of Warcraft, and I can't wait to eat everything in this book!

This is an odd one. It's not a good cookbook, but on the other hand, it's not the bad one. Same thing with World of Warcraft licensed product. Always in the middle, not good, not bad.

Let's talk first about World of Warcraft part - when you talk about that game, you'll proly think about some feasts, strong and magical fish meals, or things like that. There is (almost) none of it here. It's like a collection of some home meals from different parts of the real word, with a focus on diet, vegetarian and gluten-free. Do you think about those things when you think about food in a fictional video game? No, of course, no.

Cookbook part? Will I ever make something from it? Yes, like bread. But let's be honest, not like this cookbook will be a factor in it. That's just there. A recipe that you can find everywhere. And that's not the only one. But all that would be ok if this is not one of those cookbooks - those with pounds and oz. Sorry, but there is rest of the world that don't wanna us that metric, that will and use standard. How hard is it to put that numbers also?

Overall, it can be a nice thing to have on a shelf, as it has amazing photos of food. But no more than that.

I have been playing World of Warcraft since Burning Crusade, and my love for the game has never dulled. Due to my huge love for this game, and the countless hours I've played, my wonderful fiance bought me this cookbook for Christmas. I will say, hands down, this is likely one of the best cookbooks I've ever read, and I've read countless cookbooks in my mission to gather as many delicious recipes as I possibly can.

This cookbook features seven categories that separate the delectable recipes. Spices and Basics, The Way of the Nibble, The Way of the Loaf, The Way of the Broth, The Way of the Entree, The Way of the Sweet, and The Way of the Tankard. These categories, minus Spices and Basics, are a reference to the Mists of Pandaria cooking branches and its subsequent achievement. The recipes in Spices and Basics are various sets of spices used in actual recipes from the game throughout various expansions. Northern Spices, Holiday Spices, Autumnal Herbs, and Ancient Pandaren Spices. Pie dough, icing, and whipped cream are also included as such things are not used in the in-game recipes.

Every recipe besides pie dough, icing, and whipped cream are recipes directly from World of Warcraft. I was giddy with excitement as I opened the cookbook, and I was blown away to see the infamous Westfall Stew, Chocolate Celebration Cake, and Fel Eggs and Ham, but my favorite aspect of the cookbook was actually the delightful images of the actual food item from the game in the top right-hand corner shown alongside the level of cooking difficulty, prep time, cooking time, and what the recipe would pair well with.

One of the biggest problems I've seen people mention is the ingredients themselves. So far, I haven't had any difficulties with attaining ingredients, and I live in a small town in which it is utterly impossible to find several ingredients, but Amazon was a godsend for locating things such as Jupiter Berries and Blue Cornflower Petals. The rest of the ingredients were relatively easy, and the recipes themselves didn't require any substitutions.

My issue with the cookbook was the sheer amount of alcoholic beverages in The Way of the Tankard. It isn't a problem most people would have, but for me, it is a general annoyance that I have come to expect with any themed cookbook. The focus on alcohol in nearly every beverage recipe, aside from Roasted Barley Tea, Pearl Milk Tea, Honeymint Tea, and Garr's Limeade, was generally disappointing, however, I fully understand it as the cookbook is based on a medieval focused game where alcohol (never forget the dwarves and pandas) plays an important part.

Personally, I was delighted to see Kungaloosh as it was one of my favorite quest chains from Wrath of the Lich King so it was a matter of great importance that I find a way to successfully alter the recipe into a non-alcoholic beverage. In fact, through some research, I managed to turn each of the drink recipes into non-alcoholic beverages safe for children and those who wish the abstain from alcohol for religious or personal reasons.

Now onto the recipes for food I've tried. So far I have made Mulgore Spice Bread, Dragonbreath Chili, Graccu's Homemade Meat Pie, and Honey Bread. The two bread items were a blast to make, and incredibly delicious. I have made Mulgore Spice Bread multiple times, and I swear it gets better each time. Dragonbreath Chili was frightening at first as I could smell the heat wafting from the chili as it cooked despite the relatively small amount of peppers, but my god, it was incredibly delicious. Countless bowls were devoured until the entire pot was annihilated. It was the same for Graccu's Homemade Meat Pie, a complicated but amazing dish that actually created not one, but two pies! I haven't had a bad experience with this cookbook yet, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves World of Warcraft or interesting themed food!

I pre-ordered this cookbook and have made multiple recipes as well as tried all of the spice blends. I will admit upfront that I'm a huge fan of World of Warcraft, and I'm decently proficient in the kitchen, so your personal mileage might vary despite me giving this a 5-star review.

For me, this was definitely a fantastic go-to for great eats during the holidays. Those who are fans to the franchise, you'll find a variety of the holiday recipes for Brewfest and Winter Veil. It also brings forth some of the classics such as all of the mage goodies like Mana Buns and Dalaran Brownies. Not to mention it gives us some notable drinks such as Kungaloosh and Honeymint Tea. One of my personal favorites is the Mulgore Spice Bread that pairs great with some honey-whipped butter. I actually learned how to make eggnog from scratch with this book, and haven't gone store-bought since!

What's nice is that the recipes are fairly flexible, and they're all proficiency ranked using the game's icons and lexicon. You can make any tweaks or adjustments if something doesn't hit the right note on your taste buds. For me, I like things heavily spiced, so I changed up some of my portions on the eggnog to suit my preferences. Be warned, however, there are not a lot of recipes for Novice cooks. The instructions are decently written, but there were a few process changes I made on a few to either make things more efficient or actually work (ie. Honey Bread).

If you're a Warcraft fan that loves to cook, this is going to be great staple to your kitchen collection!

This book is GORGEOUS. And as someone who used to play WoW for hours at a day, it's so nostalgic and done with love. I have made quite a few recipes from this and they all turned out delicious (honey bread and batwing (aka chicken wings) are just two examples). Whenever this author publishes a book it's pretty much an auto-buy for me.

So I couldn't help myself when I saw that World of Warcraft was making a cookbook. I bought it and well it looks pretty and plenty of the recipes are recognisable from the book. however some have had their name changed due to the ingrediens and this made me a bit upset. If it is a WoW cookbook, keep it a WoW cookbook and dont make stuff up on the way. Why? We who buy it know this stuff from the game.

So is this a good cookbook? well if you like "normal" recipes that are made into looking and sounding like WoW then yes. some recipes where awesome and others where just strange. If you are new to cooking, dont bother. This book is not for you.

So why do I only give it 2 start (well I am 22 start actually)?
1, The recipes are for Americans, which means it is measured in cups and all temperatures in F. I can understand the cup things but it wouldn't be too much troubles speaking to the whole world by also adding C in temperatures.

2. INGREDIENS. Once again, Americans. I live in Europe, and I cant get my hands on a lot of the stuff that is supposed to be used, some I have never heard off and I love cooking. I can get my hand on some things but then I wouldn't have any money for bills that month. So if you live outside of US/Canada, you will find that you will have a hard time finding what you need. Most of the time I did use other things so I have no idea how the original would taste.

3. Measurements are not correct. I learned this pretty quickly, and thank good I am used to think while cooking because the measurements are way off in this one. Sometimes to much and sometimes to little.

I love World of Warcraft even if cooking is boring there. I love cooking IRL but I cant see myself using this book that much because there is nothing new and it has more flaws than I hoped. Maybe Nomi would burn slightly less food if he had access to this book. To bad I cant send him mine.

Okay, I honestly didn't mean to put a cookbook on my read-list. But after coincidentally stumbling across its GoodReads page and reading some of those reviews, I just had to write a short one myself. Because really. How dumb can people be.

"I was so disappointed, it's just a normal cookbook !" mimimimimimi
DUH. Yes. It's a cookbook . A normal cookbook . Inspired by the dishes of Blizzard's world-famous and excellent MMORPG World of Warcraft. Now, if you expect that the recipe for the Conjured Mana Strudel will actually restore your mana when eating within 20 seconds... well... I'll have to tell you that you might live in the wrong world. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to live in Azeroth too, but really, that's just not the case. So let me phrase this politely: What the actual f*** do some people expect?! ... Okay really, I've been laughing a lot at some reviews. Well played. Go have a Savory Deviate Delight. But, WAIT! You might actually not transform yourself in a pirate when eating!

Sarcasm aside. Overall the rating for this cookbook is quite high though for which I am glad because the book deserves it. The recipes are cool, especially for any fan of WoW and they're also quite easy to recreate! No matter if you're still a fledgling when it comes to cooking/baking or a master already, the cookbook offers a lot of dishes for any level. And have I mentioned that the recipes are just cool? Have you ever wanted to try a Junglevine Wine or a Kungaloosh? Here's your chance! Blizzard should pay me, I make the best promotions.

3 Stars. It probably deserves another one, but it's hard to judge properly and completely when over 90% of the pictures didn't load properly on my kindle which also occasionally affected how a recipe displayed. Regardless, the few pictures that did load looked tasty and well done. A large number of recipes caught my attention, even without the pictures.

The sections included Spices & Basics, Appetizers, Soups & Stews, Bread, Entrees, Desserts, and Beverages. On average there are 10-15 recipes per section although some sections had more or less. Some of the recipes are holiday. The back of the book had a few menu suggestions, mainly for holidays. Recipes that can be converted to GF, Vegan, etc. are marked.

I found out about this cookbook a year or so ago when a friend's son acquired a copy and then started posting the fruits of his labors on Facebook. He has posted several lately since what else could he do with a stay-at-home order? They all looked excellent so I was happy to borrow a copy when I came across it on Kindle Unlimmited.

Even with the trouble I had viewing it properly I could easily see myself wandering home with this although, I've never played WoW; that was my mom and youngest brother's bailiwick. I did however play Everquest and would have LOVED a cookbook of this nature. Darn.... Did I just date myself?

The whole family has been enjoying the recipes from this book. I gave my husband a mortar and pestle so he can properly make the spice blends and he has been having a good time of it. We are keeping track of all the recipes we make from it. We enjoy the format, interesting flavors, and variety of this book.

Lok'tar, my culinary friends! I was surprised how fun this book is and how well the author has translated Azeroth's recipes into Earth recipes. Several of them will be served at my house, for sure.
Except cranberry chutney. I made waaaaay too much of that in game. :)

These recipes are basic perfection with a touch of magic
One of my favourite cookbooks ever, not only for the out-of-game magic, but also because it took my personal recipes to a new level of creativity as well, as it introduced me to quite a few unexpected combinations and spices that give food a WoW feeling.
If you're looking for a cookbook to actually learn how to cook this book isn't for you, as there's not enough details and explanations for that. But if you'd like to spice up basic recipes then you'll love this (like a chocolate glaze and cinnamon dusting over a fool-proof brownie recipe). At this point I cook so much from this book, more than any other, that the actual style of recipes became my own signature style. And there's so much room for personal additions in these recipes. Also the page at the end that tells you what to prep for certain wow holidays is so cool. Since I'm reviewing this around Valentine's Day: I'd rather prep a 'Love is in the Air' indoor-picnic and do quests with my boyfriend than anything else, and this book is perfect for special occasions like that.

This was a fun coffee table book to thumb through.

Since I'm trying to eat more plant-based meals, this isn't a book I would dedicate shelf space in my permanent library to. That said, the author has a helpful table in the appendix on vegetarian/vegan recipes. Sadly, many are recipes for spices that go into something meaty or adult beverages. It also seemed like the balance of these recipes skewed into the dessert range, so basing your entire diet off this book might be a recipe for diabetes. For strict Wow devotees, the author seems to have been writing between Pandaria and Warlords expansion launches, so you will be hard pressed to find recipes that cover WOD, Legion or subsequent expansions.

What I liked about this book was its homage to a game I love and the gorgeous photographic presentation. If I fall off the plant-based diet wagon or level up my skill with veggie-based meat substitutes, I could see this being a great starting point for hosting IRL dinner parties to celebrate Pilgrim's Bounty, Hallow's End, etc.

I read a lot of cookbooks, mostly from the local library. I don't always cook out of them, but it is always interesting to see different food philosophies. What I want out of a cookbook that I am willing to spend money on is a picture for every recipe, detailed instructions, good tasting food and ingredients that I can get in the back waters of Canada.

Honestly - this cookbook checks all the boxes. The beer based boar ribs were surprisingly good. And the recipes don't skip on the directions, assuming you know what you are doing. It even includes step by step directions for how to make ruff puff pastry! I was not expecting that in a novelty cookbook.

The food photography is gorgeous and on brand. The writing is good. Honestly, not one of the books that I use all that often (that might say more about the size of my collection than it says about this book), but I have yet to cook a stinker out of it.

I haven't tried any of the drinks yet, but they were interesting to read anyway.

Fantastické kuchtění bez kotlíku a bez magie, přesto neskutečně kouzelné.

My husband and I have been playing WOW since 2008. So, when I came across this cook book, I had to get it and try all the recipes. Some I adapted to my family personal tastes, others I tweaked to make them easier to make. And a few recipes with Mushrooms (Honey-Spiced Lichen & Sliced Zanger Buttons) or those made mainly with alcohol I skipped completely or revised them to fit my family’s likes. My favorite section was the breads since I love baking and of course the deserts were great too. Didn’t do all the drinks section as we don’t drink alcohol. But all-in-all it was an interesting cook book.

Translating this one was partially fun and partially painful. Fun because the usual restrictions of translating WoW names were cut loose. I could combine English and Czech however I wanted. On the other hand, the texts repeat so much (what a surprise in a coobook). It's not a mistake of course, but sometimes it was difficult for me. Despite this, I must say that Monroe-Cassel wrote a fine WoW book. You can actually feel the magic of Warcraft in this one. The easter eggs are well-used. (Although sometimes the writing seems to be a bit too emotional.) So... 4,5/5.

I like this one better than the second book from World of Warcraft. We love especially the drinks and coctails. Yet, I still hold on my opinion about ingredients from the recipes that are more common in the USA. In central Europe I just can't get to so many recipes because the ingredients are just not available in our country.
Otherwise the structure of the book is way better than the second one, it's sorted by type of the dishes which is much better than structuring it by locations because when I search something it's much faster and easier.

It was hard to believe that a cook book inspired in a game will have good recipes. I am trying slowly all the recipes and I am not disappointed.
So far I did this recipes:
= Holiday Spices (this spices were perfect for all my holiday goodies)
= Crispy Bat Wings (delicious)
= Soft Banana Bread (This was the best banana bread that I have taste)
= Gingerbread Cookies (loved the cookies but i had to use another kind of icing because i had troubles doing the one from the book)

Nearly everything in this book looks delicious (not a big fan of seafood in general). While I did play Warcraft for a little while it wasn't long enough for any of the foods to make a big impression on me. My husband, however, has played almost continually for a very long time and he vouches for the fact that they are accurate, at least as far a possible for 'imaginary' foods.

A delightful, thoughtful offering

Yes, this is a transformative work involving food. But it stands so well as a cooking resource on its own, it's phenomenal. Special diet? No problem! Unfamiliar with cooking? No problem! Ready to take it up a level? Right. Everything sounds tasty, the photography is gorgeous. Great resource.
