Then she meets her irresistible new neighbor. There's something strange and mysterious about his eyes. Is it just her imagination, or are they locked on her neck?

He's here to track down a reported rogue, but fun in the sun is every bloodsucker's nightmare. Worse, he can't seem to get his mind off Samantha, especially when he spies her skinny-dipping in the lake. After eight hundred years as a bachelor, is he ready to turn a volatile attraction into a lasting love affair?

Oh, the fail is strong in this one, my friends. So very many.
This book is supposed to be a Paranormal Romance & Mystery. The only thing it succeeded at was the Paranormal part. Wait, there is a scientific reason for vampires in this world - so it even fails there. Wow, a perfect 10 out of 10 in the fail world!
Don't be fooled by realistic fakes, no matter how good they look on the outside.
So, the "Paranormal" isn't.
Next comes the "Romance". There is an old vampire who had a very small part in a previous book who finds his life-mate in a clumsy, skinny lawyer and is not happy about it. He doesn't find her attractive at all. He calls her "Olive Oyl" and wished for a "Jessica Rabbit" as his life-mate. So, here is what we have here:
Expectations:
vs. Reality:
Later, after he gets used to her disappointing appearance and grows to like her, he calls her "HIS Olive Oyl". Awww... so much better. It must be true love to compare her to a very unattractive cartoon character! Oh, and he's said to resemble David Beckham. Although, that could explain his life-mate being a very unattractive woman...
Holy Crap!! Who left the skeleton in the oven too long?
So, the love-story falls very flat. (Flat is a word he also uses to describe his life-mate.)
And finally, we have the "Mystery" part of the book. The whole reason that our vampire guys are at the lake where the girl is vacationing is that they are investigating a rogue vampire that is biting people in the area. As a matter of fact, in the very beginning of the book there is a vampire draining a girl. But, this mystery gets very very little time in the story and fizzles out so much that it is basically forgotten until there is a lame explanation at the end. The explanation is so lame that you have to wonder what the deal was with the story of the girl in the front of the book. All I can think is that they are setting up for another rogue for another book, because that wasn't him in this story.
I like to judge my mysteries against the classic mystery series of all time: Scooby Doo (because I'm mature that way). Does this story pass the "Is it a better mystery than Scooby Doo?" test? No. No, it doesn't.
Huh, even the Scooby Doo romance was better than this book's.
But, in spite of all of that, I still found the book entertaining enough with some humor sprinkled in. Although, come to think of it, the ending was unsatisfying too... Very open-ended. Okay, I am just being generous with the stars today. What can I say, I'm a giver.
The following ratings are out of 5: Narration: 🎙🎙🎙 Romance: 💚🖤💙💜❤️ Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📔 World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍 Character development: 🙃🥹☺️🤭
The heroine:Samantha - a type A personality city lawyer who is finally taking some time off to relax with her sisters at a cabin a few hours north of Toronto. The last thing she needs is a vacation romance, but she is intrigued by the mysterious and sexy neighbor next door.
The Hero(es):Garrett Mortimer - an ancient immortal and the leader of the Enforcers in Canada (second to Lucien Argeneau). He came to lake country to hunt a rogue vampire, but he instead meets his life mate within a day of arriving.
The Story: Mortimer is a bit disappointed when he finds he can’t read the thoughts of Sam, one of the three sister’s next door. He had always pictured his life mate as more of the Jessica Rabbit type, not the Olive Oyl type. Sam was tall and slender with small breasts and long dark hair and she is a hopeless clutz. Though Mortimer knows that a life mate doesn’t come around very often so decides he will spend his time there getting to know Sam.
The book was told mostly from Mortimer’s point of view and narrated by Rick Robertson who is a very adept reader with a pleasing voice. Though he does’t really do a bunch of different voices for different characters like some narrators.
I didn’t like the side storyline as much in this book as in most. This book focused more on the romance between Mortimer and Sam than in the hunt for the rogue vampire. There was no real villain like in many of the other books and every time things started to build up to something, there was a reasonable explanation in the end.
Do you enjoy humor with your hot vamp heroes? If so, you should give Lynsay Sands vamp series a try. Her latest in this series is "The Rogue Hunter" and stars yet another brooding, sexy vampire who finds his mate.
Samantha is a hard-charging young lawyer, burning her way up the ladder, trying to make partner at her prestigious law firm. When her sisters finally guilt her into taking their annual lake vacation, she gives in only to get sucked up into the disappearance of the spoiled daughter of one of her firm's most important clients. ?Luckily? another lake visitor is determined to provide assistance...and he's quite the hottie!
Mortimer (don't you love that name?) is over 800 years old. He hunts rogue vampires who feed off humans and risk exposure to the whole vampire community. When rumors of a possible rogue bring him to the lake where Sam and her sisters vacation, he's shocked to find that he can't 'read' Sam, and he's suddenly hungry for food, and he's suddenly really, really interested in sex...but only with Sam. Since all these are signs of meeting his lifemate, you'd think Mort would be happy. Well, not right away. She's just not quite what he had in mind when he imagined his lifemate. But the more time he spends with Sam, the more his hungers grow...for food, for her, and for her blood.
Mort is hilarious. Reading about a staid, boring, tired of food/sex/life vampire trying to rationalize his feelings had me in stitches. This is a total 'feel good' read. There's no real danger, no competing males (or females), and lots of hot tension and good sex. I liked it!
One thing you can always expect from Lynsay Sands is a funny and easy read, with just the right amount of romance. This is the first book of the Rogue Hunter series, I expected it to be a lot darker and intense but it has the same tone as the Argeneau series, not like that is a bad thing, I wanted more Rogue vampires and I got nada.
Sam and her sisters are on vacation at the family cottage for two weeks, it’s a great way to catch up and just hang out. Sam has a bit of an ear infection so her balance is off, and she basically looks like a clumsy fool. The cottage beside her as been vacant for a time, and it seems the owner and friends have stopped by for a visit, when a storm leads them to get up close and personal, it brings honour thy neighbour to a whole new meaning. I’m talking sexy time meaning.
Garret Mortimer is a Rogue hunter, he works for a council of vampires who controls their race from hurting and killing humans. When a suspected rogue leads him to cottage country Ontario, yeh I said it, bloody Canada y’all. When he lays eyes on the 3 sisters next door, one thing he knows Sam is definitely not his type, her body is all long muscle and he likes a little meat on bones. Well fate has other plans, seems Sam is his life mate and she is the last thing he needs. There is no way this clumsy fool was meant to be his.
This one was definitely lacking in the action department, but what it lacked in suspense it made up for in funny. I had a few laugh out loud moments with this one, you will love the humour and the characters. Sam, she isn’t really epic but she is likable. With Garret I am thinking of all the ways he could bite me, and it’s a plenty. Plus we had a fun side character Bricker, dude I hope he gets his own book, he is hilarious. Overall a light fluff read, I am hoping for a little more darkness in the other books. I want blood, I want dead people. The ending was kinda blah, and seemed rush I have no sense of closure when it comes to the lead couple. A solid 3.5!
P.S If you have no idea what I am talking about, the book is about vampires, and not the hard to kill kind, but its sweet.
This would have been 4 stars if Garrett was not a shallow, self absorbed asshole! His reaction to his life mate was totally unacceptable to me. I never got over it nor believed in his love for Sam. It was just chemistry/biology overcoming the brain. While I liked the story and felt that Sam's decision at the end made the story unique, I cannot help being a little disappointed. I guess resolution will come later.
So this was a case of liking Samantha and Mortimer together but finding the main story a little underwhelming. I still enjoyed the story, but the side story with Samantha's boss' demands was a little absurd. Sure it let Samantha and Mortimer get some alone time, but it was just silly.
I enjoyed the interactions between Mortimer and the other hunters a lot. They were entertaining. He's the stoic one but it made it all the more smile worthy when the younger boys would get up to trouble. Samantha's relationship with her sisters was great as well. Really the personalities in this story were the best parts.
The Rogue Hunter By Lynsay Sands is the 10th novel of the Argeneau series and The first in the Rogue Hunter series. If you've read my past reviews of Lynsay Sands, you'd know I really enjoy her books. They are a light read, with both action, horror and lots of great romance. I enjoyed this one, but not as much as the others.. I found it lacking something, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what. I guess it bothered me that there was so much talk of threats, but nothing really happened? Not that I need danger in each book, but it was like a regular romance, and lacked the supernatural feel. Sure the three males were vampires, but it was as if they didn't need to be at all.. I'm not saying I didn't like the book, because I did. It's just not one of my favorites of the series.
Garrett Mortimer is an Enforcer in the vampire world. (And the Council) His job is to track rogue vampires. Mortimer and his partner Bricker head out to Deckers Country Cottage, a remote area full of lakes and and away from the fast life of the city, where rumors of a vampire biting the locals has started. Samantha Willan and her two sisters Jo and Alex are visiting their family cottage for a few weeks to relax from their stressful lives. Sam is a work-a-holic. She's a junior partner in a major firm, and even on vacation, she's always on call. While her sister is mowing the lawn she is swarmed with deer flies, Sam runs out to help shew them away. During that time they notice for the first time that their next-door neighbor is in town. She's goes over to introduce herself and see if they want to join in on their power out dinner party. Garrett is horrified to realize he can't read her mind. She's his life mate? This clumsy, stick figure? She is more Olive Oil then then hoped. But not soon after does he realize how wrong he was about Sam. She's beautiful and more than he hoped for, but maybe he's not enough for her?
This is the first time the vampire star of the book isn’t an Argeneau. But don't worry, you will still see familiar names and encounter some Argeneaus from previous novels in the series.
I'm actually looking forward to Decker and Bricker’s story though.. Decker is an older one, who I can't wait to see being cracked from his shell, and Bricker, still only young, is hilarious and cute. He's so naive, even for a hundred something year old. As for the Argneau series, I think I just have such high hopes for each book in this series, that I always think they are going to be 10's. Even still, I went out and bought Love Bites, and will soon buy another. One 3 out of 5 won't stop me from begging for more!
The 10th book in the Argeneau series (which you don't need to read in order) takes a sidestep from the Argeneau family to centre on Mortimer, an enforcer for the Council, who's up in Cottage Country (Muskoka) with his partner Bricker, staying at Decker's cottage while they hunt for a possible rogue vampire in the area.
Decker's neighbours are three sisters enjoying a two-week vacation: Alex, a chef, Sam, a lawyer, and Jo, a uni student. When Mortimer realises that Sam is his life mate, he's disappointed that she doesn't match up to his Jessica Rabbit fantasies. As he gets to know her though he reconsiders: she's funny, intelligent, sharp and, once he understands that her incredible clumsiness is due to an ear infection, sexy.
The Rogue Hunter has Sands' trademark humour, with lots of silly moments, as well as a great cast. Mortimer is really quite lovable, and the interruptions to him "getting it on" with Sam are hilarious. There were some slow sections, but nothing boring. I'm really glad she's still writing books in this series.
The Argeneau Vampire Series: 1. A Quick Bite 2. Love Bites 3. Single White Vampire 4. Tall, Dark & Hungry 5. A Bite To Remember 6. Bite Me If You Can 7. The Accidental Vampire 8. Vampires Are Forever 9. Vampire, Interrupted 10. The Rogue Hunter 11. The Immortal Hunter
It's been a while since I read this series. I started off devouring one after another, but then became bored with the repetition.
Unfortunately this was much like the others I've read and so the constant stress about getting hold of enough blood and the lifemate telltale signs are starting to feel well used. There were plenty of light moments and it was an easy enough read but there wasn't enough conversation or banter or anything that felt like good chemistry really to convince me that this couple were supposed to be together. Instead it was a bit lacklustre. Ah well.
Hot on the heels of her series featuring the Argeneaus, "New York Times"-bestselling author Sands begins a new series focusing on the Rogue Hunters--immortals associated with the Argeneaus who work for The Council and hunt vampires who have broken their laws
My Thoughts:
My first thought is that the blurb is terrible and needs to be rewritten as it does not sell the book at all. My second thought is : this is soooo cool I know all the geography in this story extremely well as I summer in the area. This being said it might make me a bit easier on the book. I really liked the cottaging premise I haven't seen that done in a PNR before and felt it was really original. The characters, Decker, Mortimer and Bricker were funny, handsome, strong. We had met Mortimer and Bricker before in Lucian's story but Decker was a whole new character. The Heroine Sam could have been a bit stronger and sure of herself in places but liked that she was a lawyer and liked that she was very close to her sisters (do I see up coming books featuring the sisters?) I thought Mortimer slipped out of character a bit in this book. He was more taciturn and stern. I know meeting your lifemate lightens you up..but a few things just didn't "feel" quite right. Over all this book didn't really jump from the pack but felt like it was one of those books that generate characters and set us up for up coming stories. I call these books vehicles..Long series often need them but they are not the most fun to read.
3.5 Stars on this and a caution if you plan on reading more of the series you do need to read this book as it is a setup for future tales.
Garrett Mortimer along with Decker and Bricker are rogue hunters. They hunt vampires who have broken the Council's laws. Mortimer is second-in-command for Lucian Argeneau. It would appear there is a rogue vampire, or vampires, in the same territory as Decker's Country Cottage. The three immortals are given the assignment of hunting the rogue, or rogues, down.
Samantha Willan is with her two sisters, Jo and Alex, visiting their family cottage. Sam is a lawyer. She is a bit clumsy because of an inner ear infection. It is not until Jo is mowing the yard that the sisters notice their neighbor is in residency with guests. They go over to introduce themselves and invite the guys to their Power Out Party. It is when the women are walking over to invite them to the party that Mortimer discovers Sam is his lifemate. Unfortunately, for Mortimer's fantasies, Sam is more of an Olive Oyl then a Jessica Rabbit. But as Garrett gets to know Sam, he finds she is funny, intelligent and generous. Whether it is the nanos or not, it seems Sam is the correct lifemate for him.
This is the tenth novel in the Argeneau series and the first one in the Rogue Hunters series. It was well written but felt more like a setup novel for a new series. The immortals are known from previous Argeneau novels. It was nice to see Mortimer get his book and I look forward to Bricker and Decker getting theirs. I can also see Sam's sisters receiving lifemates. This way Sam doesn't have to give up her sisters. The romance was prominent, but the mystery was a bit weak. Though the searching for Kathy, Sam's boss's goddaughter, gave Garrett and Sam time alone together, I feel it did nothing to set up the hunt for the rogues. Rogue hunting kind of got waylaid. I will most assuredly read the next book in the Argeneau series. Lynsay Sands has written another easy-t0-read novel with humor, a little mystery and a touch of romance. A nice start to a new series. Adult situations and language.
This audiobook was narrated by Rick Robertson. Robertson did a fair job with the narration, but he didn't really distinguish among the characters voices. Still, I was able to tell who was speaking because of the he-said-she-said tags or the two-characters scenes.
3.5 stars. I couldn’t give it 4 stars because one of the biggest plot points was never resolved. Actually, another one wasn’t as resolved as it could have been. So yes, I was a bit miffed when the audio just ended without there being more to it. I think there could have been a whole other book about this couple. She hated her job, could never leave her two sisters as their parents had died and those problems plus living with an immortal had its own problems. I know there’s spoilers here but not all of them. I’m going to leave it at that. Maybe it will be addressed in the next rogue hunter book. Hopefully. ###### I’m reading the next book and most of the problems I had were cleared up almost immediately. It would have been nice to know that this story was continued in the next book. So anyway I upped the stars from 3.25 to 3.5.

Rogue Vampire by Lynday Sands - A bit of a departure A rogue vampire has been biting one to many people. Lucian has decided to send his enforcers Mortimer and Bricker off to Canada to get to the bottom of whatever is happening. Arrangements are made for them to stay with another enforcer Decker who owns a cabin in the woods. Meanwhile in the cabin right next door is the family home of three sisters, who are in residence for their annual vacation. Jo and Alex want their sister Sam (the workaholic sister) to kick back, relax and get a social life because Sam has just gone through a breaking up with her high school sweetheart who was a bit of a jerk. Right away Mortimer understand he has found his life mate but she is not quite what he expected...at the same time wooing Sam is no easy feat as she is not really ready.
This book takes quite the departure from other stories in the series and for me that was not the best choice. In short I miss the Argeneau’s! This to me is what makes these stories humorous..frankly this one was not funny at all. In fact Mortimer was like a stick in the mud. Then the plot was weak so there were some connections I never quite made like what happened to the lady in the beginning? What was the point of Cathy?? Then to top it off there was almost no action – of any kind!
Now the story was not all bad. I did like watching Mortimer try to juggle the truth vs. the lie with Sam. I did like Sam, I thought she was a good heroine. I also thought the near sex scenes were cute. The beginning moves a bit slow and overall the story is not bad – it just falls a bit flat from other stories in the series.
Fun to see a lawyer heroine and when she made the comment that kissing is not allowed in Malaysia , she's partially right.
Couples are not allowed to show public affections like kissing and HAND HOLDING or risked getting arrested.
Furthermore under the Penal Code oral sex is categorized under UNNATURAL SEX together with beastiality. Yep Malaysia is SUCH a fun country.
Did you know Ultraman comic in Malay language is banned because Allah means God and non-Muslim can't use the word Allah?
Did you know some NGO Institute of Islamic in Malaysia encourages Muslim to BOYCOTT Body Shop because Body Shop supports gender equality, gay and lesbians?
Did you know a sodomy case is considered a NATIONAL SECURITY case? whereas a grenade causing a death of a Mongolian woman is not?
The level of stupidity of Malaysia has reached a whole new level.
Oh and the missing plane #PrayforMH370 I won't fault anyone because no one would want such tragedy to happen But the rumors from all over the world is too much. These people who can't stop spreading rumors are inconsiderate, disrespectful and unethical.
How did a book review became my frustration with my home country — I have no idea. Guess I'm too riled up.
Not my favorite. I love the humor in the writing - but the story fell a little flat for me. You know how you are reading along and you think Oh! I bet this guy with the party cabin is the bad guy! but then it turns out he was just a neighbor and not really of any interest? Yeah. Like that. I feel like I spent half the book guessing that things that seemed very important WERE important - only to have them never mentioned again.
The sex scenes didn't trip my trigger in this one either. Maybe I am desensitized and need a break from hot Vampire sex. You can only read that the hot vampire Adonis godlike man sucked on her nipple through her bra/shirt so many times before you start going yeah yeah yeah. So maybe I should read some sap or some classic literature or something before I venture back into Lynsay Sands writing. I don't think I am giving her books enough credit when I am feeling crabby and frosty.
Garrett Mortimer (secondary character from Leigh and Lucian's book) is a member of the council and rogue vampire hunter who with colleagues is in a small town looking for a vampire biting the locals. They stay in a cabin next to one occupied by the Willan sisters, Alex, Sam, and Jo, when he realizes he can't "read" Sam making her his lifemate. Although these books have been hit or miss for me as I read through the series, this was a complete miss. Nothing worked - the plot, the "bad guy," the romance - nothing. From a sex scene that ends in a leech attack, a missing person side plot that goes nowhere, and even the relationship between the close sisters, everything just felt flat.
I actually probably would have given this book 3.5 stars, if it were an option. I thought the book was an easy read, well written and entertaining but left me feeling kind of... blah. The ending was very anticlimactic and I was disappointed with how she left the main characters in the book. Suffice it to say, this was most definitly not one of my favorite Lynsay Sands books.
I was so put off by this "hero's"crass and terribly mean observations about the heroine I only made it a couple chapters in before quitting and skipping the next two books as well so I didn't get lost. I picked up with Armand's book
More like 3.5 for this one. I liked it but not one of my top favs for this series. Also a little disappointing coming off of Marguerite's book (Vampire Interrupted) which was just amazing!
Not a detailed review, just thoughts I had while reading this: - Mortimer at the beginning was quite the jerk, kept going on and on abt how clumsy and flat chested Samantha was. Seemed quite arrogant of him to continuously think that Sam wasn't good enough for him, and how he was still considering whether he wanted to claim her for life mate, without giving any thought to whether the other party would even want him as life mate in the first place. For such a rough start in his mentality, he needed to do A LOT to redeem himself in my eyes, and ultimately, I don't think he did enough. - Hated the scene at the power out party when Sam was starting to bristle abt being treated like a child by Mortimer when she was a perfectly independent career woman, but the other vampires who could read her mind just immediately swooped in to “control her mind” to make her relax and not question anything. That just did not sit right with me at all! They were only trying to get to know each other, why couldn't they let the lady keep her freewill and let her react as herself?? It felt like I was watching a sleazy man giving a spiked drink to an unsuspecting lady so that she would be pliant and unresisting for his bro to take advantage of. Absolutely gross. - I really dislike how Bricker and Decker keeps mind-controlling Samantha whenever she starts having reservations - logical concerns any woman would have!! - abt spending time with Mortimer. They're always mind controlling her to be calm, to be receptive to things she normally wouldn't… How is this different from drugging a woman to control her?! Repulsive. - This female lead character Sam is alone at night in an unfamiliar town, in a stranger's cottage that is a short walk away from a crime scene, she's supposedly nervous and anxious and counting down the hours to Mortimer coming back from his drive, but suddenly decides this was a good time to go skinny dipping in the lake??! Like why would you voluntarily add another layer of vulnerability to an already anxious situation?! Sam is obviously not as sensible as she claims to be. - Sam's low self-esteem and constant effort to not get ahead of herself in romantic delusions when she was unclear of Mortimer's feelings towards her was very relatable lol. The way she questions his words, his intentions, being careful that she wasn't presuming the signs he was putting out - that is hitting too close to home for me lol. - The many many many false starts with no endings in the steamy scenes got predictable and tiresome after a while. - "I'd like to be your honey." - Normally this would be something I'd find cringey... but for some reason, this coming from Mortimer in a deeply serious tone, I actually find that kinda hot? lol. - Wish there was an epilogue so we could see the scene of Sam's turning, maybe years after her sisters have married and such. It's just that for so much talk abt her ear infection and her clumsiness, it would be have been cool to see her as a vampire in her peak condition at the end.

I liked it. I found it a funny read along the way. I like Sam and her sisters. Also like that we get to know more about the enforcing side of the immortals. I liked Mortimer. Found his way of thinking of his life mate a bit rude at first, but I started to think after one dreams of who they will love. He did too. He wasn’t being rude just found that it was who expected at first. I think together they will be a very good match. Hopefully she will decided to change soon so he doesn’t have to watch her die. But I’m sure that won’t be a issue lol. I didn’t rate it 5 because I found the rouge vampire part lacking. I don’t know….. maybe I was hoping for more action on a bad guy stance 🤷🏻♀️. Still liked it just wish there was more action. Maybe the next one will be different.
Mortimer's description of his ideal life mate made me want to punch him. Sam's lack of self-confidence despite being a badass lawyer was infuriating, not relatable. I have no idea why a woman who normally writes empowering, great multi-dimensional women would include this just overwhelming sense of inadequacy in our character. Especially since it was warranted by absolutely nothing that had happened! However, despite some key flaws and an overall premise that was ridiculous, good chemistry during the romance scenes. Let's hope Bricker's book is better.
The Rogue Hunter by Lynsay Sands is full of romance and suspense with her trademark mayhem and humour. In it, an immortal, whilst on a mission to protect the world from rogue vampires unexpectedly finds his life mate, a human who is a committed career woman. The book is number 10 in the author’s Argeneau Vampire series.
Lynsay Sands portrays vampires as Atlanteans, who need blood to allow the nanos developed by their scientists to heal them and maintain their immortality. These modern day immortals imbibe blood from refrigerated blood bags, keeping their existence a secret and thus preventing panic and persecution from mortals. The vampire Council has set up a team of enforcers, under Lucien Argeneau, to bring rogue vampires to justice.
In The Rogue Hunter, Garrett Mortimer, an 800 year old immortal, has been sent with his partner Bricker, to Canada. Some humans have been spotted with bite marks and they are to apprehend the culprit. The cottage they are staying in belongs to a fellow enforcer Decker, who is vacationing there, but who joins the investigation. Three sisters, Sam, Alex and Jo occupy the neighbouring cottage. The immortals try and use their mind control powers to dissuade the women from trying to befriend them, to prevent possible interference in their mission. However, Garrett finds that he cannot read or control the mind of Sam, indicating that she is his life mate.
Garrett is mortified as Sam does not conform to his womanly ideals and as he has been a bachelor for so long does not know if he is ready to be mated. The trio befriend the girls to give him a chance to check Sam out and also use the girls’ local knowledge to investigate the rogue. The scene is set for a great romp in the middle of the Canadian wilderness, containing romance, danger, intrigue and humour, as a rogue hunter finds that he has finally met his match.
Sam, a lawyer, is a workaholic, who has recently broken up with her high school sweetheart and has very low self esteem when it comes to relationships. Her sisters sense the attraction between her and Garrett and they egg her on to have a fling. Despite her misgivings, Sam falls for Garrett, although she has no inkling of his true nature, believing that he must avoid the sun due to a medical condition for example. She does however notice how his eyes appear silver and appear to shine in the darkness.
Garrett is not only a great looker, which seems to go hand in hand with being immortal, but he is also caring, charming and witty. He, like Sam, takes his job very seriously. Although surprised to discover that Sam is his life mate, he is quickly drawn to her intelligence, personality and physical presence, despite his early reluctance. The sharing of erotic dreams and Garrett’s reawakening appetites for both food and sex also make for some very hot and comical scenes as only Lynsay Sands can write! The couple’s attempts to make out al fresco had me in stitches, as one horny vampire’s seduction efforts were thwarted for one reason or another.
The attempts of the two co-enforcers, Bricker and Decker, to compel an initially unwilling Garrett into the arms of his life mate are hilarious. The contrast between Bricker, a young vampire who, unlike older immortals has not yet lost his appetite for sex, food and drink, and the older jaded immortals is comic. Similarly Sam’s sisters, Alex and Jo, conspire to get Sam and Garrett together.
The suspense element is not as intense as in the last novel I read of hers, Born to Bite, focusing more on the relationship between Garrett and Sam. However, it does still contain plenty of humour combined with inventive lovemaking scenes. The book can be read as a stand alone, but the author does continue the story of some of the characters, namely Decker, in book 11, The Immortal Hunter and Jo and Alex, Sam’s sisters in book 12, The Renegade Hunter and book 14, Hungry for You, which I plan to read.
I recommend this book to lovers of paranormal vampire romance, who like to read a humorous but romantic tale, with an element of suspense.
