About the author

Maeve Alpin

10 books10 followers
Maeve Alpin loves reading and writing about ancient times. It’s only natural that she loves alternative history such as Steampunk just as much. She had a lot of fun combining the prim and proper, frill and lace of Victorian age with the technologically advanced phantasm debilitater machine along with a brave, free living, ancient Celtic warrior woman and a gruff ghost hunter. Drawing on her love of a happy ending she has had eleven books published under the name Cornelia Amiri and this makes her second Steampunk/Romance written under the name of Maeve Alpin. She lives in Texas with her family, her grown son, her granddaughter, and her spoiled cat, Severus. Visit Maeve Alpin at http://MaeveAlpin.com

Ten first-chapters taster letting one to discover new authors part of the Science Fiction Romance (SFR) Brigade.

Day One of Reading Tasters
A Woman of Intellectual Means by Maeve Alphin - Looked interesting but didn't grab me.
Warrior Wench by Marie Andreas - Picked up the sampler. Wow - at least four different plot threads weaving together. Will buy the book as soon as I got some money.
Fortune's Hero by Jenna Bennett - Picked up sampler, but not interested in going further after reading the second chapter. I love being able to test drive these books.
Dark Horse by Michelle Diener - Interesting. Picked up the sampler.
Cosmic Fire by SE Gilchrist - What a ending! If I hadn't developed a complete hate of the hero, I would have picked up the sampler.

Day two of reading tasters
Keir by Pippa Jay - Okay. Some days I would have looked further but last night would have required something extraordinary to get my attention.
The Key by Pauline Baird Jones - Also okay. Nearly made me pick up the sample, but decided I needed sleep more. Y'all have days like that, right - when the Kindle keeps dipping and your eyes don't focus? Sometimes sleep wins.

Day three of reading the taster
Sold to an Alien by Lisa Morrow - Hmmm, not as bad as the title indicates but still a lot of repeat information. Several times it felt like two paragraphs in a row repeated information, just like these two sentences.
Grand Master's Pawn by Aurora Springer - A three book series, looks YA-ish. Nah, not right now.
Cynthia the Invincible by Amelia Treader - Oh look, a time travel story ... and with Regency era trappings. That is a nope - I just don't like those kinds of things (time travel and Regency romances) very much.

So three of the ten went onto looking further. Not a bad ratio. And one of the three had a title I would have never looked at otherwise and it is the best of the lot! Tasters rule.
