Dan Howell and Phil Lester, avoiders of human contact and direct sunlight, actually went outside. Travelling around the world on tour, they have collected hundreds of exclusive, intimate and funny photos, as well as revealing and captivating side notes, to show the behind-the-scenes story of their adventure.
Hear Dan and Phil give the inside scoop about what was really going on behind their photos in this exclusive eBook. Want to know what was going through Dan’s head when his light up shoes, complete with wires and battery pack, went through Seattle airport security? Are you still wondering if Phil really was having an out-of-body experience over a double-scoop ice-cream in that photo? And just how DID they get on with their neck pillows on this immense journey? Then look no further and listen in, as Dan and Phil reminisce on their adventure in the ‘real world’.
YES I've actually read this already! I LOVE DAN AND PHIL SO MUCH!! This was great to read and I loved getting to see all of the pictures from their tour. I actually got to meet them with two of my friends and see their show live! (And then saw it twice again on YT Red, as well as the behind the scenes... I have a problem.) But there's actually a photo in here that Halley and I are in, so that was really cool!!! We had a bit of a freak out hahaha.
P.S. I got an early copy thanks to Target putting them out too early. So I guess that makes me one of the first people in the world to read it MWAHAHA
Read my experience of meeting them in the comments!!
This was yet another hilarious Dan and Phil book. How fun that they went on tours, visiting all sorts of cities (though really, who drew that route for the tour? :P).
My second Dan and Phil book, and I loved it as much as I did the previous book. I still am quite clueless about the hype surrounding Dan and Phil, still haven't watched any of their Youtube stuff, I didn't even know they had a tour, or multiple tours, but when I saw this book at the library (which is a miracle on itself) I just had to grab it and take it with me.
I was hoping for a lot of hilarity like with the previous book (yep, lots of hilarity happened). I was curious what they would be doing outside, which turned out to be touring, but also visiting the cities where there tour stopped. I have to say I most enjoyed those parts. The tour/show parts were OK (I definitely laughed during the zombie apocalypse/earthquake talk), but I preferred seeing them walk around outside, visiting places I wish I could visit as well. Plus those squirrels. They sure have a thing with squirrels. The tour bus parts were also perfect (my word that bus is humongous o.0), I laughed so hard at the deer incident part. Maybe this learns Phil to not have a dozen or more coffee cups while in a tour bus.
It was quite a hilarious book, though I had some trouble differentiating between who was talking, in the end I knew who was who again, but it took me several chapters, and a few back reading to get back in the groove. :P Same goes for the who is who again, at times, they looked quite alike so I had a hard time seeing who was Dan and who was Phil.
Poor Phil and his travel sickness. I know the feeling! Long car trips and me are not going together. I do have medicine, but it only works so much.
The book is filled to the brim with photographs, often accompanied with text, but sometimes also just pages and pages with just photographs of the show, of Phil and Dan (Dan the Master of Selfies), of the crew that is with them for the show. I did like that they added the fan stuff they got during the tour.
All in all, I would recommend this book to everyone, and I hope that Dan and Phil will write a new book, I will be sure to get it and read it.
I've watched each of their Youtube videos at least ten times. So, when reading their book, it made me so happy to see what they've accomplished. They've grown so much and i actually teared up at the end.
I started at 8 pm and it is 10:15 pm now. I cannot explain my love for Daniel and Phil. It’s just that they mean so much to me and I’m so happy that I got to read this book. They make me happy.
I absolutely loved The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire when I first read it and I loved listening to the audiobook version too, so when I heard of a second book being released by Phil Lester and Daniel Howell, I was incredibly excited and I could not wait to get it.
Dan And Phil Go Outside follows the two of them as they embark on their tour, The Amazing Tour Is Not On Fire, across the UK and the USA. I did not get a chance to go see TATINOF and I have yet to watch it on Youtube Red, so there were a few times when the photos or what they were talking about did not entirely make sense to me, but that did not matter too much, as I was still able to enjoy what I was reading. Just like in TABINOF, the text alternated between Dan and Phil as they offer a running commentary on the photos featured in this book. Being offered an insight into their lives while they were on tour was great. There were so many different things in this book so I cannot mention all of them, but I thought I would just highlight some of my favourite parts. I really enjoyed learning about what they got up to in each American state they visited, as I would love to go to America one day (especially New York and Seattle!). I also liked finding out about how their tour went from the initial idea to the set design to their first and last performances. And, I found the 'Things Overheard On Tour' section to be hilarious.
Dan and Phil are incredibly relatable, in their sarcastic and geek humour, which I absolutely love and it is one of the reasons why I began watching their videos in the first place. This unique sense of humour and outlook on life was just as equally present in this book, which made it an absolute joy to read, so much so that I finished it in one day.
I am a huge fan of Dan and Phil, so getting a behind the scenes tour of their lives in Dan And Phil Go Outside was great. If you enjoy their videos, and even more so if you have seen The Amazing Tour Is Not On Fire, then I would definitely recommend this as you will find it just as entertaining. And if you have no idea who these two are, then I urge you to check out their channels, you will not regret it!

I don't know if I would have picked this up on my own, but from someone who used to be more into Dan and Phil (2012-13) but hasn't really watched them since, this was a nice love letter to the tour they did last year.
I had heard/seen some of the stuff from the tour secondhand, but it was pretty in-depth (as far as pictures and captions can go) as to what happened, and how they put things into action. The UK part mostly covered the actual tour, while the US part covered them seeing America. (They mentioned an Australian leg, but it wasn't covered in the book). Having followed Youtube as a medium for a while, and having seen Dan and Phil more when they were younger (I think the biggest thing they had done at the time was the radio show), it was nice to see them expanding their careers, while still maintaining the voices that they have online.
That said, a couple of things in the book did remind me how I've kind of "aged out" of their audience, and certain things that alienated me in their work from the beginning. I definitely think the appeal of this book is for people who follow Youtubers, and that people who haven't seen their videos or don't know who they are won't really be into the book. The way they write and address the audience is of a certain style, and kind of defines the book as a whole.
So while I don't really follow their updates as much as they used to, I am glad to see that they're both still successful and having fun in what they do. This was a nice sendoff to a big part of their careers, and it was touching to see them take on a new medium with their audience.
Originally I didn't plan on getting this book, BUT I'm in it!!! It's just a very tiny picture of me at the VIP meet and greet from Charlotte, but still! So I ended up getting it. It was a quick read (I read it on my way home from Thanksgiving break) and would make a great (and weird) coffee table book. Ultimately, it is a book for the hardcore fans, so I probably wouldn't recommend it to the general public. If you have a slight interest in Dan and Phil I might recommend it. It just highlights all their best/weird qualities. I did kind of want more out of this, like in depth stories from tour, but that isn't what this book was for! It is a scrapbook at heart, with light captions here or there.
there's no science to it, Dan and Phil make me smile. like, a lot. the captions by the pictures are so much them and I just kept laughing about them. I had a shit day and this definitely made it better!
I came across this book as it was listed in the Best Humor category of the Goodreads Choice Awards 2016. I had to google who Dan & Phil are. Once upon a time I was an avid BBC Radio 1 listener, so I was interested to learn that they were presenters of an award winning radio show on BBC Radio 1. Anyhow, this is a fun book full of photographic evidence that they do get outside every once in a while. Fans are sure to love it.
This is a scrapbook of TATINOF and can only be enjoyed by phans of the Dan and Phil 2016 era. (so this is a completely bias rating since I will support anything that they create lol)
Eh, it wasn’t as interesting or entertaining as the other one, which was barely even either of those things I listed, honestly. I think it’s safe to say I’m over my Dan and Phil phase. Anyway, not worth the read since it’s basically just a photo album compared to the other book.
Maybe it is fitting that I end this today, because apparently it's Phil's birthday.
Ah yes, this might look like an odd read. I am subscribed to Dan and Phil's channels and I like their content, but I can't say that I actively follow them and that I am a huge fan. I am a low-key fan, I guess. I only actively follow their Sims 4 gameplay. I have never read The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire and I've never seen This Amazing Tour Is Not On Fire.
But I saw this book at my local bookstore and it has a 50% discount and I made the kinda rash decision to buy it?
And honestly, for someone who isn't a huge fan, I was surprised to find how much I enjoyed this. This isn't a story, it is merely a documentation of the tour from their POVs. It was really amusing and if I were a solid die-hard fan, I'd probably give it 5 stars.
(2.5 stars). Just like with the first book, I feel like I missed the boat. I would have absolutely loved it all those years ago, but now it's just a pretty average book? I've never seen the tour either, so maybe that's why there's also a disconnect.
What I did really like, is the fact that they've designed this to look like a personal photo album. Especially when you look at the chapters about the different states in the US to which they went during the tour. There's a bunch of different sightseeing photos and little comments about what they experienced there. Informative and fun, because I will NEVER go to the United States in my life.
The little peek into what goes on behind the scenes when preparing for a tour and whilst being on tour is also pretty fun! I really liked that they introduced their team as well, because their team (sound, light, set design, merch team etc) are a vital part to the machine called touring.
This book shows the life of Dan Howell and Phil Lester while on tour around the world. There's comedy packed into this picture book which shows the world they live in. With special features of things you might never have seen of the two YouTubers, it surely is a fun book to look at. I liked it mostly because you can see how they live and how they do things different than Americans (they're british.)
Very quick read! I read this in literally one sitting. Okay fine so maybe it's a photo book... but I enjoyed it more than TABINOF. Maybe it's because Dan And Phil Go Outside talks about their travels which filled my wanderlusting soul for a bit ;)
this book was so violently representative of 2016, so it was nice to sort of travel back in time to when I was obsessed with Dan and Phil and their content. I'd recommend it to any fans or past fans who want to see more of their life on tour, told mostly in photos and captions.
A very interesting book, almost like a diary and/touristic guide of these two funny guys that actually went outside. If you follow them, it is certain that this book will make you smile and, in 2020, feel nostalgic.
the power went out so i sat down and polished the last 200 pages off just there
i wholeheartedly agree that this was the project that they didn’t actually want to do cause it’s so stupid and defo a cash grab 😭 thankfully i got it in the charity shop for €1
