Touchdowns and Tiaras #3

Once Upon a Half-Time

Rate this book
Lachlan Reed is the Ironfield Rivets’ most-anticipated rookie…and he’s also my biggest mistake. Our three-day Vegas sextravangza is a hazy blur, but seeing him at training camp rings a bell...wedding bells.

As the Rivets’ team photographer, it’s my job to document the players, not marry them. But Lachlan proposes a deal. If we stay married, he promises that I’ll fall madly in love with him by the sunset of our third date.

Good thing I don’t believe in fairy-tales.

But after one night, I’m head-over-heels. Two, and I’m secretly pregnant. Three dates, and he’s either the worst thing that’s ever happened to me…or he’s the only one who can help me save the team from a season-ending league scandal.

A dark secret threatens the Rivets’ organization, and only I can expose it. But when Lachlan struggles in his new position, taking on the coaches will risk both of our careers. If I fail, I’ll lose the love of my life and the perfect father for my secret baby.

Maybe it’s not a fairy-tale romance…
But Lachlan and I will make our own happily-ever-disaster.

I really enjoyed this book. It may be my second favorite by the author (my favorite is still "The Sweetest Sin."). This is a very entertaining book filled with witty ripostes and banter. The lead protagonists were well-suited. The overall effect is a charming novel that is like a ray of sunshine - hot and very pleasant.

I totally recommend it.

Elle does not believe in fairy tales. Growing up in an extremely traditional family, she left her strict father and pursued her dreams as a photographer for the Ironfield Rivets football team. She was so upset with her last conversation with him that she drowned herself in alcohol with the team's newest hotshot rookie, Lachlan "Charming" Reed and decided to rebel by eloping with him. However, she didn't remember this part and the fact that they had a Las Vegas wedding.

Lachlan has not forgotten about Elle or their scorching hot three day honeymoon. In fact, when he saw her again, even if she demanded a divorce, he requested three dates from her to show her why staying married to him might be a good idea after all.

Elle saw that Lachlan was good to his family. Spending time with him rekindled their burning romance and she realized that she was falling in love with him.

She had discovered a scandalous anomaly within the organization and she wanted to expose it. But her career and Lachlan's were put in jeopardy, especially considering the clear threat posed to fire them both, together with some damaging photos of her and Lachlan at the locker room. She had also discovered that she was pregnant with his baby.

However, in the end, the truth was exposed with the help and support of the rest of the team who considered Lachlan and Ella as family. The team was able to win on their own merits. Lachlan won Ella's heart forever, with the new family he had created with her.

ONCE UPON A HALF-TIME is an awesome interracial sports romantic comedy . The main characters were very vibrant , likeable and inspiring and couple's from Sosie Frost's Once Upon A Baby ( Leah and Jack) and Beauty and the Blitz (Cole and Piper) played as relevant secondary characters in this book (which is also a standalone). This book was very sexy as Lachlan always made Elle fall into lust with his dirty mouth and sexual aggressiveness. Moreover, this book was a really a beautifully written sports romance which highlighted the concept of training, teamwork, and integrity. It was also a fun read, exposing amusing locker room antics and rookie initiations. All in all this, book was another winner from this talented author.

I read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.

I absolutely FREAKIN' LOVE LOVE LOVE this series, and it seriously seems like, if possible, each new book get better! Elle came from an unloving childhood, and certainly doesn't believe in fairy tales. She's perfectly content living her dream as the photographer for the Iron field Rivets pro football team, and doesn't want any kind of relationship. She meets the new rookie, Lachlan "Charming" Reed, at a bar in Vegas, while tying one on after talking to her cold father. It leads to a super hot weekend with the hotshot rookie. When they come face to face in the real world, she learns they're married, and he doesn't want a divorce. He talks her into giving him three dates to make her fall in love with him, and against her better judgement, she agrees. Spending time with him has her falling hard, but with all the secrets swirling between them, will they stay married when all is revealed?

OMG each of these football players are so exciting in their own original way, as none of them come close to being similar. And Lachlan is no different. The character development is great, with a highly hilarious cast of secondaries! Lachlan and Elle's simmering chemistry made me anxious, and I cheered loudly everytime it ignited into SMOKIN' HOT sexy scene goodness. Sosie Frost has a talented, and original writing style that I can't get enough of. She took up the OMG moments up to new levels with her twists and turns, and so I cussed like I was actually watching my beloved Denver Broncos going through the ringer. All my attention was hooked from the very beginning, with my heart racing cover to cover, and I read this story in one sitting. I can say with certainty that everytime I read one of her books that I'll end with this; CANNOT WAIT for the next book so I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Funny, sweet, cute.

This was a cute read. Lachlan and Ellie were both super likable and I was glad they got their happily ever after. I enjoyed this story a lot. Lachlan with all his goofy cockiness had a big heart and I loved it! I though more would happen with Victoria but it didn’t which is fine just thought more would happen. I wished the epilogues were a little farther in the future, so we could see them as parents.

3.5 stars!...Liked the couple but I feel the author missed delving deeper into a rookies fears when such a large amount of pressure suddenly falls on his soulders....Lachlan is way to silly and ...well...stupid...for such a discussion....and Elle's backstory is way to shacky for me to believe her insecurities...needed more info on both parts...Overall..this is a lovely story!

I have found my new book boyfriend!. Lachlan "Charming" Reed....#1 draft pick and Heisman Trophy winner is having trouble transitioning from college to the pros. Being in the pros is his way to provide for his mom and little brother and it hasn't been going so well. Another problem he is having is that he cant seem to get team photographer Elle off his mind. They had a hot weekend in Vegas when Lachlan was at the combine and he would like to continue that. Elle unfortunately has other problems. Last thing she wanted to do is save Lachlan from getting hit by a car when she was trying to be incognito. She is aware of some shady things the team has been doing and the last thing she needs is some hot shot football player trying to get into her pants even if that was the hottest time of her life. Not even delving into her family issues, being a part of this team is all she has. Can Lachlan be her Prince and give her a happily ever after???

I really loved this story. Lachlan was just so sweet and not the cocky type like most sports heros in books. He really wanted Elle and thought they would make a great couple. I loved how he loved his mom and brother. I also like how the author didn't make him the perfect player. I love to see make characters especially in sports books have something they need to overcome. Makes them seem more real to me. Lachlan had some other challenges in this book that really made it stand out because it was a story I haven't really read before. I really liked Elle to. I understand why she was reluctant to start something with Lachlan because she has been around football players and understands they have a reputation. Lachlan was determined to prove them wrong. I also loved the humor in this book. I highlighted so many funny parts and was just laughing out loud while reading this book. You get to see Jack and Cole from the other books in this story to. Overall I really recommend this book!

What an awesome addition to the Ironfield Rivets series. This is Lachlan Reed’s story and what a story it is. We meet Lachlan in the end of book 2 and saw what an awesome character he was going to be—let me say, he definitely lived up to the dreams I had of him.
Lachlan and Elle first meet in Vegas- they had a quickie marriage (which she doesn’t remember) and a wild honeymoon that lasted 3 days and nights. She ends up living him behind ( which there is a good reason in her head). She goes back to her life- she is the photographer for the Rivets football team. When they meet up again, there is a spirited argument on the field which ends in some hot, erotic shower scene. Lachlan hasn’t forgiven Elle for leaving him so he plans to rekindled their burning romance—starting with “three dates” to show her why they are good married together. But remember she doesn’t remember they are married.
This book is fantastic and I loved the chemistry between Elle and Lachlan—there are twists and turns that keep this story going—especially the bombshell that Elle has for Lachlan. Does it keep them together or force them apart. I loved Elle because she wanted so bad to believe Lachlan was hers and that they could be together, no matter what. And when she found there was a problem in the organization, she helped do something about it. That is one kicka$$ woman. Lachlan is one hardcore alpha male who has a great sense of humor but protects his woman too—this story had a great sense of humor and a lot of passion. One of my favorites from this author.

My rating: 4.7 stars ****

Sweet, ultra sexy and modern version of the Little Mermaid!

Ever since I read Sweetest Sin I have been a die-hard fan of Sosie Frost. She is such a wonderful story teller and the books she writes are just scorchingly wild enough, just a little bit over the top enough.. well they light my fire EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Characters/Story - Lachlan plays football for the Ironfield Rivets. The consummate athlete, a jokester -just playing ball and having a good time. Has a wild and crazy few days with Elle who is a photographer while they are in Vegas one weekend - sopping drunk. Unfortunately, a couple of things that happened in Vegas didnt manage to stay in Vegas. (no spoilers here but lets just say these are items of the 'life long' variety type). Fast forward a few months and Lachlan and Elle run back into each other and are forced to face their drunken weekend in Vegas head on and very, VERY sober.

Summary - the plot was great (I love sports books and secret baby tropes). The storyline flowed at a very fast, smooth pace. Characters were all well developed, I was glad to see Lachlan's story. Elle was a little bit flat but I think it was because Lachlan's personality was so big that he really overshadowed her. I enjoyed seeing the characters from stories past and getting a glimpse of the ones for the future books. (yay!)

I give Once Upon A Half-Time 4**** WickedGoodStars and will be anxiously awaiting the next book from Sosie Frost!

Thank you for the opportunity to read/review this book!

Awesome!!!!

That was so FREAKING good I can't even hold it in !! I am a crazy football loving lady and this was probably the best football themed romance I EVER read. The football references and football related activities were so accurate and detailed but not overly much. For me it was the perfect blend of football and love!! Everything wasn't easy peazy for our rookie I was soooo good. I really felt Lachlan's stress and I loved loved loved Elle. Elle was hilarious and strong but vulnerable at the same time. Lachlan was soooo sweet this was a really great story I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!!

I was totally expecting a super cliche alpha-male-football-player-got-one night stand-pregnant thing. And I was pleasantly surprised, I know I'm probably a be biased because I have a soft spot for footballers, but really this was a good sports themed story so worth it!!!!

Really liked this book. These 2 had explosive chemistry...but they kept fighting it, well she did and that was the only reason I gave it 4 stars. She pretty much fought it most of the time. But to be fair, I understand why she did...her dad was a racist ass and pretty much disowned her for being married to Lachlan and not divorcing him, even though Lachlan was crazy about her. Don't most parents want their kids to be happy...no matter what. I know I do.

But I really loved the story and we get some of our favorites in this story too, as in Cole & Piper and Jack & Leah. Really like the characters in this story. Both fairly confident and comfortable in their own skin. The story itself was very good and well written. This is my 2nd book by Sosie Frost...and I am definitely a big fan. Great writer.

New author for me, and i really enjoyed their work. Sports romances are becoming a new thing of mine, i am getting quite addicted to finding them. This one did not disappoint, hot men, hot action and plenty of story kept the tale moving long fast and i loved how Lachlan gets under Elle's skin. The secret wedding and baby add to the dynamics of their relationship they both have to give each other a lot of trust and this adds to the romance element for me. Trust is an important thing, and it was great seeing this develop between the characters.

Talk about secrets. This story has a ton of them. What do you do when you stumble across the biggest secret that could ruin a lot of lives and careers? Read this book to find out. Then throw in a love story that starts from the end and works it's way to the beginning. This is a really great story in the series. Great writing as usual by Sosie. Can't wait to read the next installment.

Such a sweet, funny and a little suspenseful read.

Lachlan was extremely immature but his story was worthy of smiles and love. He was funny and had his serious moments as well. I also really liked Elle, she was strong, fierce and a great heroine.

The characters seemed out of sync

I like the characters in this book, although I like Lachlan a lot more than Elle.

There was so much going on in this book... (Minor spoilers without specific details.)

- Lackland and Elle got married at the combine, presumably his senior year of college. Elle was 24. Her being older isn't really brought up and that's good.

- There are a lot of scenes in the book that concern his 5 year old brother. I found these boring instead of cute. I do not like single parent books. The child is almost always a distraction from romance just like in real life. Having this little brother there messes with him wooing Elle that I found irritating instead of endearing.

- This is obviously Lachlan's rookie year and he has a lot to prove. He isn't syncing with the team and no one really steps up to show him the ropes, which is essential to the team.

- There's someone from his past who comes into the picture to make trouble but it seems like an afterthought or, even if it was pre-planned, it seemed like it was just stuck on the side of the story.

- There's a really big thing happening in Elle's world and the resolution of the issue, which concerns the whole team, is addressed but the second the resolution begins, it is under played. There should have been an entire chapter about what happens when she drops the bomb. This is at least the 2nd book where that happens. The backlash is in the background and we don't get to see it. After getting built up about what will happen, it's really underwhelming.

- Elle being pregnant is announced to the world in an awkward way. And the way her pregnancy is juggled is also awkward.

- I think there was an inconsistency with either Piper or Lrah's child being unborn in the first chapter, even though Leah's baby was born before training camp according to the previous book.

With all of these points, it seems like the author skips between them without good transition. There was a secret she needed to tell him for a long time and that's the only thing that kept me flippingages. Waiting to see when she would finally tell him and, also, to see when Lackland would pull his head out of his posterior and talk to Jack outside of practice.

The other thing that bugs me about this series and her new NHL series (Book 1 is the only one out at the moment), the h is always dark skinned. The author is constantly having the aH thinking about creamy mocha, chocolate drops, and darker colored skin. I think, in the 4 books I have read so far, 1 to 3 of this series and Adrian from the NHL series, the H, or anyone else only uses the word black once, I this book, the way she is described, I expected her to be Hispanic. The way he talks about her hair isn't the way hair on black people behaves. I have absolutely NO problem with having a black heroine or hero but it seems like the author is pushing some agenda. But if she is doing that, why are all the players white? I found it bpvery distracted by that.

The other thing is that EVERY h is black or dark skinned in some way. That would be ever happen. Just like it is odd to have a series where half the family is gay. Let's look at the population and spread groups proportionally. Or stop trying to use the same trick in every book.

I didn't buy Elle's quick change from "I can't allow this to happen," to "Nothing could stop me from having him," in half a page.

I think the author may have read comments about how poorly outside drama is woven into the story that she got rid of almost of that in Adrian. It is a much shorter book.

The steamy scenes in this book aren't quite as good as some others. So far, the best dirty scenes are in Adrian. Hoping to read more passion like that in future books is what will keep me reading but I hope future books have better scenes with this one.

I really enjoy this series. This is another unusual take on a fairy tale, in this one the woman is taking it on herself to protect the man. All the men on the team really. Lachlan and Elle meet in Vegas. She is a photographer and he is finishing college and trying to go pro. They meet again 3 months later and Elle has no idea they were married on that weekend in Vegas. Lachlan wants them to remain married and he asks her for 3 dates in order to make her fall in love. Things don’t go as planned on those dates and soon they are pregnant. This book has some intrigue from the beginning, more than the first in this series. Will Elle be able to save the team? Will she fall in love with her husband? I think you should read and find out.

Once Upon a Halftime
By: Sosie Frost

5 Star Review by Kristie K.

Sosie Frost takes us back to the end zone with Once Upon a Halftime, but this time we follow rookie sensation Lachlan Reed as he tries desperately to score with Rivets staff photographer Elle Marina. Though she doesn’t remember a good portion of it, Lachlan and Elle have a history together. One wild weekend together in Vegas where all inhibitions were stripped away, along with just about everything else. Neither one of them can forget the other, but Elle is having a harder time admitting it. Knowing the two of them have to work together, Elle is concerned that it will make things more complicated and difficult if they have any sort of relationship, and tries to keep Lachlan at arms length. Difficult to do when he is over six feet of solid muscle, dimples, conceit, and sex appeal…not to mention the huge heart of gold he hides underneath it all. Nothing on the man is small, and he crowds her personal space every chance he gets. Every encounter brings more memories of their weekend flooding back, including the impromptu visit to the wedding chapel where Elle became Mrs. Lachlan Reed. Elle is determined to have the marriage annulled, but Lachlan has other plans. He makes it his goal to convince Elle to be his wife for good, by getting her to agree to three dates in which he swears he will make her fall head over heels in love with him. The only problem? Elle isn’t completely sure she isn’t halfway there already. When she gives into temptation during one of their dates, she comes home with a little more than she bargained for. Elle is about to find out that she is carrying a little piece of Lachlan with her, and the challenges don’t stop there. Scandal is brewing at the Rivet’s home office, and Elle, Lachlan, and the rest of the team are in danger of losing everything.

I totally fell under the spell of Lachlan “Charming” Reed from the very first chapter. Even with a possible head injury, and little control of his faculties, Lachlan definitely lived up to his moniker. Charming, indeed…. I found Lachlan to be adorable, fun, sweet, and insanely sexy. Honestly, I don’t think I could have held out as long as Elle did. Quick witted one-liners, a dimpled smile, and confidence to spare, he made me smile. He made me laugh. He made me want to BE Elle Marina. Even his inner monologue regarding his consideration for a woman’s preferences had me smiling.

“I wasn’t too classy of a guy - no monocle or top hat - but a velvet-soft manscaping felt like the chivalrous thing to do for a lady willing to gargle my bits.”

Now tell me, who could resist a line like that?! Add to that his complete adoration of his mother and little brother, along with his boyish charm, and bad boy body, Lachlan is the complete package. His complete dedication to keeping up his game to provide for his family, while trying to woo the pants off of Elle at the same time takes it’s toll on Lachlan, and as the story unfolds and secrets are revealed, you become even more enamored with him. Watching as he struggles with insecurities he masks behind quick come-backs, sarcastic remarks, and panty melting dimples, was both heartbreaking and empowering.

Elle is the perfect blend of beauty, sass, confidence, and heart. If I can’t be Elle, I want to be her best friend. Though her childhood was less than pleasant, Elle managed to come away from it with a strong sense of self and a determination to live her life the way she wanted to. Having no real sense of family from her own upbringing, Elle is a bit taken aback by Lachlan’s devotion and complete determination to make her part of his family. She is faced with unbelievable circumstances that would shrivel even the strongest woman, and she does it with grace and integrity. When the only family she has ever known is threatened, she reacts with care and determination. I adore Elle for her strength and her sass, but I loved her even more when she finally showed her vulnerability. When she finally opened herself up and let someone in, it was a truly beautiful thing to behold. Realizing that she didn’t have to hold the world on her shoulders alone gave her a warmth she hadn’t felt before, and I felt that warmth with her.

Both Elle and Lachlan are hard to resist on their own, but together? Explosive. The chemistry between them blazed from the very first chapter, and never waned through the entire book. The interactions between the two range from humorous to hard-hitting, from sweet and gentle to hot and smokin. Their passion for one another burned up the pages, and had me shifting in my seat.

Though this book isn’t really a sequel to Beauty and The Blitz, it has many of the same characters we came to know and love. And as much as it pains me to admit, since I absolutely LOVED BATB…I think I may love Once Upon a Halftime just a little bit more. Ms. Frost has a writing style that I adore, and find myself entranced in every story I read. She makes the transitions easy, the flow is fluid, and the emotions REAL. On more than one occasion a single sentence was enough to convey the emotion of an entire scene.

“Lachlan was right. He was an adrenaline rush wrapped in a dangerous touch and shadowed in my own desires.”

It is with great pleasure that I give this book a well deserved 5 stars. I loved every second of the story, it kept me engaged, smiling, crying, and wanting more. I can’t wait for the next book to see who, and what, Ms. Frost will bring to the field.

Definitely my favourite of the Touchdowns and Tiaras series - Lachlan doesn’t have quite as much to make up for than previous heroes Jack and Cole, and the authentic, yet derogatory, terms for women are happily missing from this third instalment.
Elle is an excellent character, strong and sassy, and I love the dynamic between the two of them as they work their way through their attraction and challenges. Of the three, this relationship feels really authentic in a warm romancey way!

this one had a darker and more intriguing plot outside of the romance which i thought was well timed just for my own interest. lot of tropes in this one, thought it was an ok read.

didn’t read the 4th just because i was over pregnancy sport romances at this point but reckon i’d come back to it later down the line.

Long but good

The comedy was refreshing aspect to add to the drama. Elle tried so hard to protect Lachlan that she almost lost everything. Lachlan learned what a team was.
