Recently, I've been using my She Reads Truth Bible during my quiet times. I was given a copy by Lifeway so that I could share my thoughts on the Bible with you all. But more than just being a beautiful Bible to review, this Bible is slowly helping me find some space in my life again.
There's something about this Bible that draws me to it. The simplicity of the cover. There's a reverence there for me with this Bible that I haven't felt in a long time. The translation, the CSB, is new to me also. It reads And the accessibility of some of the history through the timelines and maps excite me!
While the Bible doesn't matter per say, finding a Bible that draws you towards Gods Word is so important. Right now, for this time and space in my life, the She Reads Truth Bible is what I needed. The devotionals have helped point me back towards scripture. I've already been writing notes and thoughts in the margin. There's a freedom for me in the simplicity of the pages that makes me want to fill them with all things.
One of the things I've thought about a lot this past month is the idea of freedom. Of being free enough to be me - if I want to dance or clap during worship. Or to embrace the personality that God has given me. To feel comfortable in my own skin. And digging into the word of God brings me to a place where I can find that freedom. It's only given by Him. And it's only found in Him. And for today, the She Reads Truth Bible is helping me find a little bit more of that freedom.
I received a copy of the She Reads Truth Bible from Lifeway. This review is my own, honest opinion.
I’m a guy and I’m reviewing this Bible. I’m doing it because I heard the founders of She Reads Truth on a podcast and these ladies caught my ear in what they are trying to accomplish with their ministry. (The introductory remarks by Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams are inspiring) I’m doing it because when this Bible was first released it flew off the shelves and was difficult to buy. I’m doing it because I was able to lay my hands on a few copies and gave it to our seniors as a parting graduating gift at the church I pastor and they loved it. What is so special about this Bible? Well let me tell you my thoughts.
First, I love how these ladies give a small primer on how to read the Bible. Every Bible needs this. We need to be reminded that we are not reading the Bible for reading sake but rather we are reading it to apply it and to become doers of it. Their approach to the Word of God is worshipful and life changing. They follow this up with a wonderful well thought gospel message. This is a great way to lead up to the Scriptures for the redeemed heart is fertile soul for the Word of God.
This Bible is built for studying the Bible. The writers have carefully looked at each book and have printed a key verse written with great style and beauty by one of 15 artist. This thing looks girly. The book introduction pages are color coded by genre. The layout gives you plenty of room to take notes. You have well written devotionals that are placed with the coinciding Scripture so that when you are reading through your Bible plan, you have devotional thoughts to bring you even more into the story. Your Bible plan is at the beginning of each chapter with “Going Deeper” passages at the side of each one. You have maps, charts, and timelines perfectly placed in the sections where you need them the most for personal Bible study. Yes, the tools in this Bible do nothing but enhance your reading of the Word of God.
Now I understand why these Bibles flew off of the shelves. Now I get why my wife has already taken over my copy of this Bible. All I can say is that I need to get me a Bible cover so that nobody can see the “She” on the outside cover and study on. The CSB is already coming out with more manly study Bibles like the Spurgeon Study Bible. Perhaps that one will make me grunt just a bit.
I was given a copy of this Bible in exchange for an honest review. I honestly loved it!
For the first time in my 35 years, I read the Bible in a year. It was difficult at times to keep going, but I made it in the end with only Revelations to study for the month of January!
What I love about this Bible: 1. A minimalist look. This may seem a strange thing to say. The pages are clean, open, and the focus is on Scripture. My eyes are not distracted by fluff. Fluff meaning additional information that I don’t need. 2. Room to take notes. Most pages have at least a 1 1/2 inch place on the margins to write. In the Psalms, as much as 4 inches are available. 3. I love the beautiful, fluid, artistically written key Bible verse located at the beginning of each Bible book. 4. The maps. Most maps in Bibles are full color and heavy with points of interest. This is great. However, in the She Reads Truth Bible the maps are simplistic. They are black ink drawings with a “just the facts” look. It usually takes me a while to get used to a new Bible or a new translation. I have made myself at home quickly in this Bible. I use it for everyday Bible reading, Bible study, and note taking. It is my go to Bible! Free copy from B & H Publishing
I am very impressed with this CSB Bible and I am enjoying reading and studying with it. I have been reading through the book of John so that I could get a feel for the study plan included in the beginning of each book of the Bible. I like the way the chapters are divided out daily in the plan listed at the beginning of each book. This plan also includes a couple of additional reading suggestions for each day that come from other books in the Bible as a way to dig deeper.
The devotionals that are spread throughout this Bible are very nicely written, encouraging, and helpful.
The She Reads Truth Bible has two ribbons, which is a convenient feature. I also like the way the books of the Bible are color coded at the beginning of each book as a way of clearly showing what genre each book is in. This information is located toward the back of the Bible, and it took me a while to find it. I would have liked to see this genre guide toward the front of the Bible so that I did not have to search for it.
Things that I struggle with in this Bible are ones that I am learning to adjust to. The pages are very thin, so sometimes I feel that I can see through the page too easily. I would also prefer a slightly larger font size. My eyes feel the strain after reading this size of font for too long.
But, overall, this is a Bible that I am really enjoying sitting down and studying with. I will be continuing to use it in my Bible study.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this Bible. All opinions are my own.
God is so faithful and holy and merciful. He desires true repentance and obedience from his people, and offers in exchange living water, bread of life, and true freedom.
By God's grace, this is the fourth time in my life where I finished reading the Bible cover to cover. Each time I used a plan from Totheword.com. Reading plans like this have helped me grow in a disciplined way of reading and a (hopefully) lifelong habit of seeking God and his ways first.
*This is reviewing the edition not the actual Bible*
Love this edition. It's pretty, has space in the margin for notes, and has reading plans for both the whole Bible and for each book (for each book it has references to other books so that you get the full effect).
I remember thinking years ago that it was a near sin to love beautiful things. Maybe loving beauty just made me vain? That was until God brought to my mind the master crafters He had working for His glory in Exodus and how magnificently He Himself designed this beautiful universe we inhabit. I say all of this because the She Reads Truth Bible is all about beauty.
You remember those master crafters I talked about in Exodus? The She Reads Truth Team certainly had their own set of master crafters creating their own unique fonts (yup, I just said they created their own fonts!), illustrating memorable verses, carefully selecting the right colors to combine, and providing beautifully bound Bible covers with an array of options. You can see the beautiful pics of the Bible over here as well as the full extent of the She Reads the Truth Bible's features: http://bit.ly/SheReadsTruthBibleReview
I've been a She Reads Truth fan since nearly the beginning. I didn't grow up in church and didn't really know how to engage in scripture-- SRT helped me by providing thoughtful devotions and corresponding scripture to study-- and they did so in a way that was beautiful and thoughtful. I was a part of their launch team for the SRT Book, and have participated in countless studies by them for over 3 years. So when I heard about the SRT Bible, I was ECSTATIC. It looked stunning from the outside, and I knew it would be as beautiful from the inside too. And I was not disappointed!
Now honestly, does scripture and the Bible have to LOOK pretty for us to engage with it? Nope. But doesn't the beautiful word of God deserve to look as beautiful as the words within it are? I'd say yes. And it makes using this Bible all the more engaging: looking at the beautiful scripture pages at the beginning of each book, studying the stunning maps, charts, and timelines that are as aesthetically pleasing as they are a valuable resource in learning about the whens and wheres of the Christian world. Especially charts. I'm a chart/worksheet kind of girl.
I appreciate as well the different Bible study plans-- both one for digging into each book of the Bible, and one for reading the Bible as a whole. The book introductions are thorough and uselful, a great tool as I engage in books I don't know much about.
I love all the devotions, though I wish they hadn't been ones that were used on the SRT website already. (I doubt they all are, but the ones I've read so far I've read in previous studies! I wish they'd write who wrote what on the devotion instead of having a directory of names in the back.
I like the CSB version! This is my first time using it. It's very clear and easy to understand. The footnotes are a bit confusing though-- I know there's a key at the beginning of the Bible, but I wish they were easier to engage with.
The wide margins are great, especially as a Bible journaler-- though I don't intend on doing much artsy journaling in this Bible. I like using the margins to write out scriptures that stand out as I read them, or notes from my study.
I've read a lot of complaints on the thin pages-- and I won't lie, they are thin. I'm afraid if I move through them quickly I'll rip one! But as far as the thinness in relation to reading the scripture, it doesn't bother me too much. I can read it just fine. The only pages that it bothers me is on the pages where there's a devotional on one side, and scripture on the other-- the design of the devotional pages does make it a little harder to read the scripture. I wish they'd put devotionals on both sides of the same page to avoid this problem, but it's more of a slight annoyance than anything else. I use a sharpie pen in my SRT Bible and can see some shading on the back, but no major bleedthrough has occurred from my writing.
Overall, I LOVE this Bible. Proud to be a member of the SRT Community, and grateful for the way they use their beautiful designs and thoughtful studies to bring women into the word of God every day. I hope this Bible does that job well for women-- it's doing so for me!
I received a copy of this Bible (poppy version) for review from the B&H/Lifeway Bloggers program.
This is my first time reading the CSB version and I really enjoyed it. It's very readable and I'd read it again. The devotions from SRT were hit or miss. Many take a topical approach and don't highlight the point the passage is making. The intros for each biblical book are helpful--it sets the context well.
I’ve read the Bible through annually at least 10-15 times. I’ve read many versions, sampled multiple reading plans, utilized electronic and hard copies. This has by far been my favorite Bible and translation for daily reading. 2020 may be the first year I re-read a version/translation. I also found the devotionals enjoyable and applicable.
CSB (Christian Standard Bible version) Lots of nice extras: Wide margins for notes, beautiful inserts, devotionals, a Bible in a Year reading plan in the back. *She Reads Truth also has an app. **I use the YouVersion app Bible in 90 Days plan as a guide. I don’t read in the same order as the plan but it still helps me keep on track.
New translation for me to read. Saving my highlighted verses & notes here as I read through : (Mark 1-7) ...proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins ... he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit ... proclaiming the good news of God: The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Let anyone who has ears to hear listen. ... The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to those outside, everything comes in parables to so that they may indeed look, and yet not perceive; they may indeed listen, and yet not understand; otherwise, they might turn back and be forgiven. ... He summoned the Twelve ... and gave them authority over unclean spirits ... Pray in private. ... if you forgive others their offenses, your heavenly Father will forgive you as well. He will send out his angels with a loud trumpet. ... Therefore be alert, since you don't know what day your Lord is coming ... the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. .. Blessed is that servant whom the master finds doing his job when he comes. ... to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Put your sword back in its place because all who take up the sword will perish by the sword .. How, then, would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen this way? ... But all this has happened so that the writing of the prophets would be fulfilled. ... They said: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God. You have said it, Jesus told him, But I tell you, the future you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven. ... (Pilate) knew it was because of envy that they had handed him over. ... All the people answered, His blood be on us and on our children! ... the curtain of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth quaked and the rocks were split. There was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached the tomb. Jesus came near and said to them, All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth ... And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
The She Reads Truth Bible is BEAUTIFUL! I love the bright colors and pretty fonts throughout the Bible ... because really, while I would read my Bible whether it's pretty or not, isn't having a pretty thing that's been uniquely designed for you just extra special? There are lots of things to love about this Bible, though. One of them is the cover itself. It's a hardback book, but it's linen-covered with gold lettering and a rather solid cover. That thick, heavy cover makes the Bible feel sturdy, and it even comes in a case that would further protect it. I've had several Bibles wear out completely, but this one feels as if it would last for a long time. It would be a great choice for a Bible that travels with you, perhaps, like the one you tuck in a bag to take to Bible study or church. While that salmon-y orange-y color is not exactly my favorite (which I realize is very picky of me - to worry about the color of the cover!) it is bright and cheerful, and I appreciate that.
Now, some of the points I want to make may seem a little unusual for reasons why you should consider using this Bible - like the color of the cover above. In the United States, we are not limited to access to Bibles like so many other people are around the world. That's a huge blessing! It also means that I have a collection of them going, and the kids and I use all of them. We appreciate all sorts of things about different ones. We might pull a Bible off the shelf because of the great maps that it has, or to compare two translations, or because it's size is handy for where we're going. So if this list of pros seems unusual, that's why - and I am very thankful for being able to compare and own multiple Bibles. I LOVE the 'artistic' touches spread throughout this Bible. There are 66 scripture verses that are set apart from the others and are made special through font, color, and artistic garnish. These catch my attention and make them stand out. I enjoy looking at them, and the creative writing helps me to remember the wording - because memorization is a very hard thing for me. My Big Helper and I attend Bible journaling classes at our church. We love pulling out favorite or meaningful scriptures and trying to make them stand out like this, but I struggle with lettering. I love having these examples right in front of me, there in the Bible! Another great feature of this Bible is the extra wide margins. I've only ever seen big margins like these in journaling Bibles, which this isn't - but you could definitely use it as such. I'm not a big fan of covering up the words, but here there's lots of room for your art or notes to go to the side of the scripture, and the creamy page color is a great backdrop for whatever you put on your page. Each book of the Bible has information preceeding it. There's not quite as much information as in my study Bibles, but there's more than enough to provide food for thought. It provides a good summary, key scriptures, and some background information - just what I need to dig in. I love the humbleness and down-to-earth quality of the devotions scattered throughout the Bible - in fact, even my Big Helper commented on that when she used it. They're written seemingly by the woman down the street - somebody I might take a walk with after lunch or hang out with at the playground while the kids play. They make good points, but they feel very relevant to me specifically, and in the crazy busy season of life we're in, I really appreciate that. Lastly, this She Reads Truth Bible is in the CSB translation. This was the first Bible I've seen in this translation, and I appreciate the fresh look at scripture. Basically, the She Reads Truth Bible feels like it was created just for me - for a busy mom-woman who needs a little pretty and a lot of truth in her life. I love it!
I received a free copy of this book from Frontgate Media. All opinions are my own.
CSB She Reads Truth Bible (2017) by Holman Bible Publishers is a fantastic Bible that released this past April 2017. There are a lot of fun cover options for this Bible including poppy hardcover (pictured), navy blue imitation leather, and brown genuine leather. I really love this Bible, and have added it to the ESV and KJV Bibles that I use for my daily Bible studies. I purchased this Bible to review through Amazon on October 26, 2017. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. I give this Bible 4.5 STARS.
I love this Bible so much. I highly recommend adding it to your collection of Bibles that you use for your daily Bible studies. To make this review a little streamlined, I am going to evaluate this Bible’s PROS vs. CONS using the book of Esther to illustrate.
PROS Each book begins with a focus quote illustrated in unique ways. I really love this detail. I find it makes the Bible a bit more personable to me.
After the focus quote, the book gives the reader basic background information that I find to be quite helpful. It helps set the stage for the reading. What I really love is that the background info is enough. Some Bibles tend to make this section feel rather textbook-ish. I find when that happens, I gloss over those intro parts. I feel really guilty doing that, so I appreciate that in this Bible the info feels like the perfect amount.
For Esther, the publishers included a map of King Xerxes’s kingdom, which I felt is rather helpful because he likes to explain to everyone just how big his kingdom is. It is nice to be able to wrap my head around just how big his kingdom was during his reign.
My MOST FAVORITE aspect to this Bible is that it includes a really nice reading plan at the very beginning of each book. I love this so much. It really helps focus my studies a little better. There is also a year-long study plan detailed in the back of the Bible as well. It also includes little check-mark boxes to help you stay on track for each daily reading. I LOVE THIS!!!
And, throughout each book, there are really excellent devotionals that add to and enhance the readings of specific chapters. I like these devotionals because they may include good reminders and facts that make my studies feel that more rich and deep.
CONS The only CON I have with this Bible is that the pages are SO thin. Each page is practically see through. If you look closely at the devotional page, you can see my notes from the page that comes after it.
I love to write and highlight and use Post-it Notes throughout my studies. Because the pages are so thin in this Bible, it limits my note-taking abilities a tad (you can see it really hasn’t stopped me from making my notes).
If I could request one thing of the publishers to change with this Bible, it would be that they chose a more substantial paper stock.
Overall Impression Buy this Bible! If you are in need of a new Bible to add to your daily studies, I recommend purchasing the CSB She Reads Truth Bible. The women who worked diligently to put this Bible together, Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams, really have a heart for God as is seen in their introduction. They explain, "Our heart for the She Reads Truth Bible is not to add to or improve on the perfect and complete gift of Scripture God has given us. Rather, our heart is for everything we’ve included in this Bible to point back to God and His Word. Every human word and element in this book is an intentional invitation for you to both read Scripture and grow in your affection for it."
What a fabulous purpose! Truly, it is a great translation. It has helped to enhance my Bible studies in a BIG way. This Bible has been an enormous blessing to me, and I am sure it would be one to you, too!
I received a copy of this Bible for review purposes. All opinions are my own.
My very first impression of the She Reads Truth Bible was "It's Heavy!"as it is almost four pounds. There is the She Reads Truth Bible was how heavy it is. Weighing in at just under four pounds, it's nearly the weight of the barbells I use to work out. (Puts a whole new meaning on strengthening yourself in the Word, doesn't it?) I have made heavy Bibles my main Bible in the past, so I wouldn't discount this just because of the weight. There is the a lighter version in LeatherTouch weighing in at 3.2 pounds. However the hardcover Bible does come in its own slipcover making it extra nice, and the color is really pretty. (The official color is "Poppy" but I kind of think of it as a rose-peach. This would look beautiful on any bookshelf with a display of nice looking books.
The only version it comes in is the Contemporary English Version, also known as the CEV. This is a version that was produced by the American Bible Society. In my opinion it would be nice to have other versions available because this is such a nice Bible.
It has wide margins, but the paper is thin, so I would only recommend the margins for notes and not for Bible journaling. Still lots of room for notes is important to me, and given this Bible weighs as much as it does, I'd rather have thinner paper for notes than thicker paper that can be used in crafting as well as devotional time.
Too often in the past I have dismissed women's Bibles because they seem to the Lite version of study Bibles, but not so with this one. Each book has a great introduction to help you understand the who, where, why, and when of each book. When has always been a hard one for me and so the timelines of when books were written and Biblical events will be of great value. (There are 35 timelines in all!)
This Bible pretty much has everything I would want in a Bible. There are:
189 devotionals 66 illustrated key verses 35 full color timelines 20 full color maps 11 full color charts Reading plans for EVERY book of the Bible One year Bible Reading Plan Detailed book introductions Key Verse List Topical index Wide margins
It is also just beautiful. The hardcover is a lay flat version and would make for lovely Instagram photos with a cup of coffee or your cat by your side.
There are 2224 pages (plus contributors pages). Even though I was top Bible quizzer in my state in high school, this has so many helps in it for everyone -- from someone who is just starting to read and learn about the Bible to someone who has been involved in Bible study for years.
I would HIGHLY recommend this Bible. It would make a great gift to any woman who is a young Christian, as well as anyone who is further along her Christian journey.
I love studying God's Word. I like using a variety of different Bible versions because they help me gain a better understanding of the Bible. I was excited to receive a She Reads Truth Bible for review. It is a Poppy Linen hardcover. It is Christian Standard Bible (CSB) version. It may look plain on the outside but it is quite pretty and appealing on the inside. This Bible's key features are color-coded genre indicators, key verse arts, book introductions, maps, charts, reading plans (including supplementary passages for added context and deeper understanding), timelines, and devotionals. I'm a visual learner so I find maps and charts very helpful. I think it's great that "How to Read the Bible", "This is the Gospel", and "Introduction to the Christian Standard Bible" are included in the beginning of the book. In the back of the book, you will find a list of key verses, genre guide (color-coded), the Apostles' Creed, the Bible in a Year reading plan, topical index, maps, and table of weights & measures.
The key verse art at the beginning of each book is beautiful. It serves to help us memorize key verses (theme verses selected for each book). I appreciate the concise book introductions which cover cultural context (overview of the approximate time of writing, authorship, historical context, and relevant geography), main message and purpose, and Biblical significance (each book's unique contribution to the canon of Scripture). I really like the two ribbon markers, one for the Old Testament and one for the New Testament. The Bible's layout on each page provides extra-wide margins for note-taking and journaling. The devotionals are gospel-centered and insightful. Christmas is just around the corner. This Bible would also make a wonderful, meaningful gift for any women in your lives!
~I received this Bible for free from B&H Publishing via FrontGate Media in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
CSB (Christian Standard Bible) She Reads Truth Bible, is beautifully bound in linen; my copy is a very pretty poppy color and also has a linen covered sleeve to protect and store it in, that fits well on my bookshelf!
I read many chapters and books of the She Reads Truth Bible, and as I read this version of the Bible, I was struck by its rhythm, poetry (for example Psalm 23) and adherence to the King James version, only in easier to understand language.
I was impressed by the forward, one portion in particular; “Women in the Word of God every day” is our simple but significant message. The forward continues with the reasons behind this version; it is insightful, thought-provoking and very much worth the time to read.
After the note from the creators, Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams, there is a treasure trove of features. Some of the features include almost 200 devotionals, timelines and illustrated maps, to name a few.
I enjoyed the introductory verse to each chapter of the Bible which encapsulated the message of that chapter. Each verse is beautifully illustrated. In addition, I appreciated the reading guide for the chapters at the beginning of each book.
If you are interested in purchasing the She Reads Truth Bible, be sure to include the entire title shown above. The authors have also written another book entitled She Reads Truth, that comes up when you do an internet search.
I received CSB (Christian Standard Bible) She Reads Truth Bible from B&H Publishing by FrontGate Media. However, I was under no obligation to write a review.
It seems somewhat strange to me to be given a Bible to review. I have never thought Bibles needed reviewing. However, there are thousands of different Bibles on bookshelves. Go to your local bookstore or take a look on amazon. There is a Bible for every kind of person, in many different translations, in a rainbow of colors. I received the gray linen hardback version of the She Reads Truth Bible. The She Reads Truth Bible is a beautiful and well put together study Bible. It is heavy, but opens flat, which I appreciate. I really like all of the extras that are included: devotionals, beautiful key verses, color timelines, color maps and charts, reading plans and more. I really like the wide margins which are perfect for note taking or for Bible journaling. I did find the pages a bit thin. This is only a problem for writing or highlighting on the pages. I would suggest using the pens and highlighters made especially for Bibles. The font color is more of a dark gray than black, so it could be harder to read. The pages are laid out in one columns instead of the traditional two. This may help people read the Bible more as a book. The overall look is beautiful and every "extra" was put in with a purpose leading the reader to see the Gospel throughout the whole Bible. If you are looking for a new Bible, I encourage you to try the She Reads Truth Bible. *I received a copy of this Bible from the publisher, but this review is fully mine.
I absolutely love this Bible! It’s beautiful gray linen cover and sleeve is so appealing to me and I love that it’s got so many details that appeal to me as I read and study the Bible.
The Christian Standard version is so easy to read yet is very accurate to the original Greek and Hebrew. There’s a section in the beginning that is called “How to Read the Bible”. This is a great help for beginning readers of the Word as well as those of us who have read it for years. There are wonderful, practical ideas in this section that really helped me.
There are so many great things in this Bible - from the introduction to each book and key Scriptures to look for - as well as Devotions to read that help us to focus on key Scriptures. So much information to truly help you understand what God’s Word has to say to us.
My very favorite thing about this Bible are the wide margins for making notes! I love writing notes in my Bible about what I’m reading and it’s so nice to have the large areas to write in. No more tiny, cramped writing or trying to fit it all in. It’s just perfect!
I love this Bible and highly recommend it! I give it 5 out of 5 stars as I’ve enjoyed everything about it!
