Formålet med denne boka er å skjerpe leserens sans for bruken av språket som meddelelsesmiddel. Den delen av logikken som behandles, er ikke den tradisjonelle slutningslæren, men semantikk og debattlære. definisjonslære, beslutningsteknikk og saklighetslære. Ikke minst har saklighetslæren, slik den er fremstilt av professor Arne Næss, hatt innflytelse på norsk debattpraksis.

Næss combined his ecological vision with Gandhian nonviolence and on several occasions participated in direct action events. He was the youngest person to ever be promoted to professor at Oslo University (27), a position he inhabited from 1939 to 1970.
Næss' main philosophical work from the 1950s was entitled Interpretation and Preciseness. . He later developed the conclusions in that book into a simplified, practical textbook, entitled Communication and Argument, which became a valued introduction to pragmatics or rather "language logic", and was thus used over many decades as a sine qua non for the preparatory examination at the University of Oslo, later known as "Examen Philosophicum".
From the 1960s and forward his work came to be more and more focused on what would later be known as deep ecology.
The name was first introduced to the public by Næss in 1972 during a lecture and was later explained further in The Shallow and the Deep Long-Range Ecology Movement: A Summary (published 1973 in the Inquiry journal).

This book has for decades been part of the curriculum at the entry level logics course at Oslo University. It is regularly voted among the top of nonfiction books ever written in Norwegian. Personally I found it a rather standard quality text. I was a bit surprised to find it was mostly about communication between people. At 130 small pages it is a quite quick read, although each page takes a bit longer than in average fiction.

Jeg måtte ikke lese denne men ble interessert på grunn av en avisartikkel. Liker logikk, men jeg syntes at denne var usigelig kjedelig.

Filosofi på en rettfram måte
Jeg leser vanligvis ikke så mye filosofi, med jeg måtte lese denne boka. Arne Næss skriver direkt, og man kan lett forstå betydningen fra sammensetning. Ei veldig god bok i den norske litteraturen.
