Adam and the Kabbalistic Trees

Rate this book
The theme of this book is a kabbalistic study of a human being. The sefirotic Tree of Life and Jacob's Ladder are used to understand Adam, the archetype of humanity. This detailed description of the interaction between the four Worlds gives an integrated view of the physical, psychological, spiritual and Divine levels.

The Toledano line of Kabbalah has its roots in medieval Spain where the three branches of the Abrahamic revelation met in a civilised cosmopolitan atmosphere. Then the Kabbalah brought about an esoteric fusion of religion and philosophy. In our time we relate its ancient theories and practices to modern psychology, science and art.
The hallmark of the Toledano line is Jacob’s Ladder, a metaphysical scheme of four interlocking Worlds that originate in the primordial Tree of Life. This diagram of Divine principles, paths and triads is the key to comprehending the plan of Existence and our part in it.

Z'ev ben Shimon Halevi is the Hebrew name of Warren Kenton. He was born in 1933 into a Sefardi Jewish Levite family in England. He was educated at St Martin's School of Art and the Royal Academy, where he was taught to see beyond the obvious. This acquired awareness led him to study the esoteric and Kabbalah, the Jewish mystical tradition. Out of this came visits to its ancient and medieval spiritual centres in Europe, North Africa and Israel. Since 1970 he has taught groups all over the world, founded the international Kabbalah Society and written fifteen books that are now in fifteen languages, including Russian, Japanese and Hebrew. He has fraternal connections with other spiritual traditions and is a Fellow of the Temenos Academy in London where he lives and works.

Kabbalistic Tree of Life as the basis for holistic view of human life in all of its aspects. Dion Fortune once enumerated a number of disciplines, including biology, mathematics, history, comparative religion, psychology... as a necessary basis for any Kabbalist. Few writers on this subject met, or could be expected to meet, such a goal. Halevi is one few modern writers who do, alongside the likes of Tomberg or Greer. From molecular biology, trough anatomy, psychology and depth psychology, to metaphysics and beyond, with excursions into history, art, politics... Range of covered fields and author's obvious command of them is staggering, just as is the ease and elegance with which author applies Kabbalistic role to their workings and interrelations.

Warren Kenton (Z'ev Ben Shimon Halevi) has dedicated his life to sharing the inner teachings of the Jewish tradition. He is a scholar, a wise man, and a gentleman to boot. It was a pleasure and privilege to study the teaching he expounds.
