Daily Guideposts 2017 centers on the theme “In God’s Hands” from Isaiah 41:10, and is filled with brand-new devotions from 49 writers. Each day readers will enjoy a Scripture verse, a true first-person story told in an informal, conversational style, which shares the ways God speaks to us in the ordinary events of life, and a brief prayer to help focus the reader to apply the day’s message. For those who wish for more scriptural depth, “Digging Deeper” provides additional Bible references that relate to the day’s reading. Enjoy favorite writers like Debbie Macomber, Edward Grinnan, Elizabeth Sherrill, Patricia Lorenz, Julia Attaway, Karen Barber, Sabra Ciancanelli, Marion Bond West, Brian Doyle, and Rick Hamlin, plus two new contributors. In just five minutes a day, Daily Guideposts helps readers find the spiritual richness in their own lives and welcomes them into a remarkable family of over one million people brought together by a desire to grow spiritually every day of the year.
I've bought these annual editions for well over 15 years. The daily selections never fail to speak to me, in words spoken by contributors whom I now consider valued friends, even if we have never met!
Guideposts isn't my favorite devotional, but is worth the daily read when my mother and mother-in-law are also reading it and we can send a quick text to each other with "thought of you when reading Guideposts this morning" or "great prayer today!"
Two favorite prayers of the year: "Jesus, take my tears and water the souls of those I love so that they may grow in wisdom and faith." - Julia Attaway, May 26
"God, You know I am tired. Fill the gap between where I end and others begin. Help me to be a reflection of You and Your unending grace. Amen." - Natalie Perkins, Dec. 12
Daily Guideposts has become one of my staples for devotional readings each year. I enjoy most of the readings, and find some to be extremely inspiring. Occasionally, there are some that don't inspire much at all, but that's rare. I find those to usually be by the same authors, as well.
But over all, this is a fine collection of daily readings, largely related to the families and experiences of the people who write them, which makes the connections even better.
While these Daily Guideposts books are meant to be savored one day at a time, I tend to finish them up by April, reading a few pages every day. This book would have gotten five stars from me if I'd found every short devotion uplifting and inspirational, but was disappointed that a few of them seemed mundane. Overall, these Guideposts devotionals are quality writing and inspirational messages.
Reading Daily Guideposts is a thoughtful way to begin the day. It allows me to take pause and reflect before delving into the day's activities, challenges, and obligations. It also encourages me to practice gratitude each day.
I added this to Goodreads as a reminder to read it daily. I was successful in that and found it worthwhile. It is a helpful part of my day and I those daily thoughts do help, some more than others but that's OK. Now to get the 2018 one ready to start and see where it will take me.
I enjoy the Daily Guideposts and try to have one every year. The different authors show me how to grow in Christ and apply His teachings to everyday life.
Since 1992, I have read Daily Guideposts as my morning meditation. I simply love these books and I look forward to read Daily Guideposts 2018. Happy New Year.
