We’ve all been there. We open the dryer and low and behold, a sock is always missing, leaving one sock without its mate. Very few of us ever really ponder the missing sock dilemma further than that but author B.D. Donaldson has taken things a step further by writing a charming book about it in Where Do They Go?, the first book in a three-book series. Jaylen and Naleaha’s mother reaches into the dryer and is short one sock. She threatens to take away Jaylen’s video games unless he finds the missing sock but the sock is nowhere to be had. The kids rig a camera to their dog, Max’s, forehead to see what happens at night while they’re sleeping but the next day, they’re disappointed to find out that nothing happened the night before. They repeat the same exercise the next night and the following morning, Naleaha gets the shock of her life when she checks the computer in their bedroom…With plenty of colorful pictures and a cast of characters that includes a computer-savvy alien, there’s plenty to like in Where Do They Go?. Oh – and in case you’re wondering, we don’t know just yet where they go. We’ll just have to stay tuned for the second book in the series to learn more.

Delightful Tale That Kids And Adults Will Enjoy

“Right before bedtime Jaylen looked at Naleaha and asked, ‘Where could my sock be?’ ‘I don’t know. Maybe there is a monster that eats socks,’ she said.”

Jaylen’s socks keep disappearing and he’s getting in trouble with his mom. Naleaha is sure it’s a monster, but Jaylen doesn’t believe in monsters. However, the brother and sister are determined to find out who is stealing socks. When later that night, Max the dog barks at a shadow the children hook up a camera to Max in order to see what is happening. The question is what will the children discover?

Donaldson is a gifted storyteller as he weaves this creative tale about what happens to missing socks. Kids will be delightfully entertained in book one of this story told in parts. Children will be intrigued and captivated by the whimsical tale as well as the beautifully matched illustrations, will have them begging for the whole series. Wonderful, delightful tale that kids and adults will enjoy.

What a delightful children's book! I got this for my grandson and granddaughter. I had the privilege of reading it to them and they both loved it! I did too! My granddaughter & grandson could be the two children in the story! (I know they have had missing socks!) Max the dog is a lovely addition and has an important part in solving the mystery of where do they go? My grandson was totally riveted to the book and could not wait to turn the pages. He's four years old and it held his interest. He totally understood what was happening. We talked about the story together and later he told his mother about this entertaining story. She had to read it to them both again after coming home from work. The illustrations are very good! I think they help bring the story alive. Interesting to use a computer and camera, some modern technology in helping solve the mystery. My grandson also figured out why only one sock was missing. Read the book and find out!

As soon as I showed this to my goddaughter she immediately felt intrigued and

make me read it five times before her bed time.

‘Where do they go? Part 1’ is an intriguing and charming story about some girls

losing their socks in their own room, I think all of us at some point in our life had

lost a sock, so this is an easily relatable story and it helps the children and

motivates them to keep their rooms clean and also to set up traps to try to catch

some monster (this is not a joke, my goddaughter actually did it).

The length is a little short to me, and the drawings really helps to make the story

to make it more real, the dialogues and lines were easy to read, I have a few

theories how the next part will be, and I hope it comes soon, these are the types

of book you want to get to the end and get all the answers as soon as possible,

but I can wait, I can’t say the same for my little girl though.

Where Do They Go? Part 1 written by B. D. Donaldson was a well written and illustrated children’s book. This book was cute, and the story had a magical, child-like imaginative quality to it. I loved this book, and my daughter also really enjoyed it. The story is about two children who discover that a creature/alien has been stealing their socks, leaving them to get in trouble from their mom, for losing one sock out of each pair. The ending was good, but definitely made my daughter wish we had part 2 of the story. The illustrations were bright and very helpful for my daughter. The writing was very detailed and the story was wonderfully thought out and expressed. The author has a wonderful and unique talent for ensuring the reader, no matter the age, enjoys this imaginative story. I highly recommend this story, as my daughter and I, thoroughly enjoyed it. I cannot wait to purchase part 2!

Kids love a little mystery in life, especially when the mystery is actually a part of their life. This book certainly hit a home run tapping on the missing sock epidemic that seems to be a part of every single household. Reading this book was a whole lot of fun and made the kids laugh.
I love books that actually get the kids thinking about what is going on in the story while bringing the message to their everyday life. The story about the socks is certainly fun and has even encouraged cleaner bedrooms so socks go missing a whole lot less now.
The writing is great for kids too and really made everyone laugh. We’re all looking forward to the next two parts of the story, but I have an inkling that we will be revisiting part one often as well. I’d recommend this book to kids of all ages, especially if they are having a hard time getting into books.

A great fun and interesting story for kids. The title says it all and creates mystery and curiosity already for the kids. The plot is good, nice artwork, pictures goes well with words and characters are believable. The story is about 2 tech savvy kids who try to find where missing socks end up with and what they find and do is their adventurous journey.
Young readers will enjoy the story and it has all elements of fun, adventure, techniques and mystery with colorful graphics. It is a short book and keeps young kids engaged for that short time. The author has successfully created an imaginative and captivating story, keeping the young inquisitive audience in mind who definitely will say “what happens next”.

Where Do They Go book was purchased for my 7 year old daughter and I asked her to read and review it. So, the entire review is from her. She gave it a five star review because she liked the story, the only thing was the story was short and it did not have a proper ending because basically it is the first part of a sequel. The words and sentences are easy and my daughter was very much able to read the book on her own and connect with the characters. The images are attractive and they added to the clarity of the story. The theme of the story is again good and the alien element added spice to it. So, the book could be a good gift for little children as it would interest them to read books and enlarge their imagination and vocabulary.

A cute book for the pre-school and younger grades set, Where Do They Go? Part 1 by B.D. Donaldson attempts to answer the never-ending question of just where do socks disappear? Well written with wonderful illustrations, this book is sure to entertain youngsters with its creative look at the missing sock issue. The story incorporates aliens and mystery which is sure to appeal to young readers. The children depicted in the story, Jaylen and Naleaha are on a mission to figure out what is going on. This book is just part 1 and leaves the story open at the end, as there is no finality to the story; you will have to venture on to book 2 to get the answer.

B. D. Donaldson did an excellent job incorporating character traits along with mystery young children would enjoy reading. I am looking forward to the next book to get a glimpse of who is the sock thief.
As a parent I liked the character traits demonstrating responsibility, they had to keep track of their socks. Although this may seem trivial, it is something that will continue as an adult.
The illustrations in the book are what really bring the story to life. They are colorful and inviting.

Perfect children books about missing socks

My daughter loved the cover so I just had to get it for her. As we all read the book together, my kids were both intrigued about the little surprise as to the missing socks. This book had them looking around just to see if they can find something like it. This also teached my kids to better care for their socks. They had me reading this over three times in a row. Can't wait for the next parts as I will be getting them all. Thank you!

This book is aimed for children, I buy it to read it to my nephews, they like it very much, the illustrations are very well made. and the story is good, the only thing I did not like is that the story is not finished. And the book ends by saying to be continued. I guess I'll have to buy the next book.

I haven’t read many serialised children’s book before, like this one.
Socks are the subject of Where do they go?
As socks do mysteriously disappear at some point in their journey from laundry basket to washing machine.
I won’t spoil who the author thinks it is at the heart of the theft.
Other than Mrs. Williams, the mother of children Nalleaha and Jaylen, telling Jaylen that she will take away his video games if he doesn’t find his missing sock (which I found a bit harsh) this is a great book.

Great book for children, that they will want you to read over again. This story was well illustrated and detailed to keep small children interested. I really liked that the author referred to the mother by her proper name, helping our children to understand how to properly address adults in their lives. As the author does a wonderful job with getting the story and theme across to his young audience, so does the illustrator. My children and I really enjoyed this book and look forward to finding out what happens in the following book. We loved the pictures and the story. My children saw the cover and asked that I read it as soon as I down loaded it to our Kindles. This story had my children asking me to read it multiple times in one sitting, this almost never happens. Do wish it wasn’t a multipart story, would have liked to know how it ended.

Description: This is a children's picture book about a brother and sister who are in big trouble with their mom because their socks keep going missing. To avoid angering her any further they desperately try to solve the mystery of where their socks are going. This book features large colorful pictures with a few sentences per page.

In Short: It's very hard for me to review this book by itself. On one hand the art is amazing and the story is intriguing but on the other hand it isn't the full story yet. It ends with To Be Continued and to see what happens you will need to read the rest of the series. I think the story will continue to be fun and exciting so this is a series to keep an eye out for. Alone it could be a teaser for your kids.

Pros: The art is really top notch, alone I give the art 5 stars. The story is well written with no noticeable errors. The text and images compliment each other well and add detail to the story. The book is colorful and many of the pages feature full page art. It's a cute tale that is very modern and interesting. The smart, creative kids in the story put a camera on their dog to investigate the disappearing socks. I think this series will be very fun for children and spark their imaginations. This series could work well as a bed time story and is a good book for young readers to read on their own. I look forward to seeing how this story develops in the sequel and would definitely read more by this author.

Cons: This book alone does not have a conclusion or lesson which I think is very important even for series books. I think this is especially important for small children who do not always understand that they have to wait for the sequel to be written. It is only Act 1 and your child will need (and demand) the entire series so that they can see what happens. At the time of this review books 2 and 3 are not yet available. Alone I give this book 3.5 stars, but perhaps books 2 and 3 completing the story will make it a 5 star series. It most definitely has that potential.

I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest review.

Oh this is the question that drives parents around the world crazy, isn't it? Where do the missing socks go? There were two when they went into the washer, where are they now? Where Do They Go? Part 1 by B. D. Donaldson is a fun story that attempts to answer that exact question. When a brother and sister are questioned by their mother about a missing sock, they are both lost for what to do. The brother, afraid to be yelled at again, becomes very concerned when one of his gray socks goes missing. What are two tech savy kids to do when faced with this sort of a problem? What else, hook up a camera to their dog and see what he is able to record. What they find the next morning recorded on the camera is out of this world and leads the brother and sister to the beginning of what has to be a great adventure. The author did a good job of creating a fun story that explains a very common problem in many families. The illustrations are fun and colorful and do a great job of bringing the characters to life. I am looking forward to reading more from this author and seeing what the sequel has in store for us. Great job to the author.

B. D. Donaldson’s, “Where Do They Go? Part 1,” is a very cute short story that can give a brand new outlook to those inquisitive little kids that just cannot understand how socks go missing. It is so creative how Donaldson was able to make such a mundane issue that we view as being so annoying into something that was able to capture my little cousin’s attention with very little time. It is pretty short, about forty pages, so it doesn’t take long to read, which can be seen as both a blessing and a curse because if little kids are engrossed and calm with the book, you don’t want it to end. The good thing is that this is a three part series, so I can go get the next two and keep the adventure alive for my cousin just a bit longer. I wasn’t even bored while reading it with my cousin, so that makes it a great short story in my book!

I absolutely love the concept of this book and the book itself is fun from start to finish. I particularly liked the bright illustrations and the balance of text to illustration. The story itself was unique and fitted in well with the pictures.

The only issue that I have with the book is that it is just the first part of a series and ends abruptly. This is fairly obvious from the cover and the fact that the book is called ‘part 1’. Nevertheless, the abrupt ending may be upsetting for some kids, particularly as the next parts are not out yet.

Still, that aspect doesn’t take away from the book itself and this is still an amazing and fun read, perfectly suited to kids.

“Where do they go” is a book written by B. D. Donaldson. He was inspired by his family to create this story. This is the first part of the book and there are two more to complete the story. This part of the story is quite short, 20 pages or so, but really enjoyable.
At first sight all of us know what it is about, even kids know how easily socks get lost but what we don’t know is where they go so this is a good story to read the kids or they may read it themselves. The story is easy to follow and well written in an easy way so that kids enjoy the most of it.
I would recommend this story for any child. My niece loved it.

What a cute story to activate the imagination of a child! I love a new explanation to the age-old question of missing socks. I think most children (and parents) will relate to the strange situation of disappearing socks that are often never seen again. The mysterious alien is the surprising culprit, and the author and the artwork together does a great job in describing the alien so it's not scary at all. I like how the story ends on a "cliffhanger" of sorts - my grandkids will now be thinking of all sorts of reasons why the alien is stealing socks and what the single socks can be used for. It will be interesting to see how the things the think up will compare to Part 2 when it comes out.
