Ryan, Kathryn e il fratello di lei sono sempre stati una famiglia, come fratelli. Tra Ryan e Kat però non è mai stato così, eppure sulle loro teste vige il codice degli Ice Dragons, la squadra di hockey di cui fanno parte Ryan e il fratello di lei. Quest’ultimo si è fatto promettere che nessun sportivo, incluso Ryan avrebbe potuto toccare la sorella. Ma la tentazione dei due scoppia quando, dopo essere stata coinvolta in una rapina, Kat chiama proprio Ryan per farsi riaccompagnare a casa. Per riuscire a dimenticare quella situazione pericolosa, lei gli chiede un bacio. Quel bacio fa scattare i sentimenti sopiti di entrambi, sarà dura riuscire a reprimerli. In più c’è il fratello di lei che non sarà d’accordo con la loro relazione. Riusciranno a far ragionare questo fratello tanto protettivo?
"Il codice" è una lettura molto leggera e veloce per chi ama gli sport romance. La lettura è scorrevole e la storia è raccontata da un narratore esterno, che riesce molto bene a descrivere i sentimenti dei protagonisti. Tuttavia la parte della storia d'amore dei due protagonisti poteva essere sviluppata un po' di più, visto che si è dato molto più spazio alla parte riguardante l'hockey. È molto promettente anche la storia della vita dei due protagonisti, ma anche qui non è stato approfondito più di tanto, solo piccoli cenni sparsi. In più, si poteva allungare il finale, perché mi ha un po' delusa, non per il modo in cui è finito, ma per quanto sia corto. Vi consiglio la lettura se volete qualcosa di leggero, magari dopo delle letture impegnative...

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
Yes! This is what I hoped for when one of my favourite m/m writers started writing m/f romance. We still have a wonderfully intense leading man, but this time he is perfectly matched with a fiercely independent woman.
You don’t get more Alpha male than an NHL enforcer. I love the contrast between Ryan’s rage on the ice and his introverted caution on his own time. Loyal and selfless to his friends, Ryan is a professional athlete who enjoys quiet charity work and low key friendships. I absolutely loved the complexity of his characters.
The sister of Ryan’s best friend, Kat has been overprotected by both her brother and Ryan since losing her parents as a teenager. As a paramedic she is strong and resilient. She has a lifelong crush on Ryan but has never found the courage she needs to confess her feelings.
The relationship between Loki and Ryan is almost as sweet as the central romance and the hockey backdrop allows RJ Scott to shine when writing the intense, complex relationships between teammates. I might have enjoyed just a little more hockey in the story, but I loved the camaraderie between the players both on and off the ice.
This is a sweet, slow romance with electric tension as things heat up between Kat and Ryan. Sexy and intense without being angsty, I loved the friends to lovers storyline. I usually read m/m because I struggle with the unequal relationships and insipid female characters in m/f fiction. Here, Ryan and Kat forge a wonderful partnership and Kat is a strong, independent leading lady. I really loved this story!

This is an edge of your seat kinda read that will have your adrenaline pumping, there are so many twists and turns – I couldn’t put it down, loved every page!
Since she was a child Kat has been in love with her professional hockey player brother’s bestfriend and teammate, Ryan Flynn. While Ryan’s always felt something for Kat he and Loki, his bestfriend, made a pact that they’d always protect Kat and keep her away from hockey players. When Kat winds up in the middle of a scary situation the first person she thinks to call is Ryan and he’s quick to be by her side. The two can’t deny their feelings for one another any longer but fear Loki’s reaction so they keep their relationship a secret…
All the twists in this book really make for an excellent read. The plotline is fast paced and I loved all the characters, it’s a great set up for what’s bound to be a fantastic series! This is definitely one of my favorite reads of the year! I can’t wait for book 2!

Ryan Flynn is the Ice Dragons tough guy. On the ice he holds nothing back. This doesn’t apply to his personal life however. The only girl he has ever loved, he can’t have. Kat is everything he wants, but he doesn’t feel he is good enough and he also can’t break the best friend code with her brother Nicholas.
A scary incident brings Ryan to Kat’s rescue and their feelings are brought to attention. Neither can deny their attraction but both fight it to save their relationship with Nicholas.
Nicholas is an awesome friend and brother, but no one gets to pick who they love; it just happens. Hopefully they can convince him to accept where their relationship is going.
This was a great hockey romance. I really enjoy sports novels and this is definitely enjoyable to read. The characters were great as well. There were a lot of twists and turns throughout to keep me turning the pages.

“Il Codice”
è appunto il titolo della mia ultima lettura avventura. Ma di cosa si tratta? È un romance F/M
, con dei protagonisti indimenticabili ambientato nel mondo sportivo dell’hockey. Tutto è incentrato su una promessa fatta da Ryan a Loki nei confronti della sorellina di quest’ultimo.
«Non lasciare mai che si avvicini a uno sportivo,» era stata la risposta brusca di Loki. […] «Nessuno come noi, perché l’hockey è tutto ciò che siamo. E tutto ciò che facciamo è per la squadra. Non lasciare mai che uno come noi la ferisca.»
Ma cosa succede se non riesci a mantenere la promessa? Cosa succede se invece ti sei innamorato dell’unica persona che non dovresti proprio degnare di uno sguardo se non vuoi rischiare di perdere il tuo migliore amico?
E cosa succede ancora se rischi di essere allontanato dalla squadra in cui giochi? Non vi resta che scoprirlo con questo romanzo in uscita il 7 novembre

- È una lettura ben equilibrata: dolce, passionale
, ma non solo. È anche più verosimile grazie all’aggiunta di elementi che caratterizzano la vita di tutti i giorni. Credo inoltre che sia della giusta lunghezza dato che non risulta appesantita da ulteriori elementi mirati a tappare i buchi come è successo in altre mie letture (tra l’altro abbandonate). La consiglio dunque principalmente per questi motivi.- Altro punto a favore è certamente l’ambientazione. Il mondo dell’hockey. Ho adorato gli scambi di battuta e complicità tra i membri che compongono la squadra dei Dragons oltre che i punti deboli nella squadra (affrontati insieme), la paura di essere sostituiti, le insicurezze delle qualificazioni....
- Ho amato moltissimo la parte che riguarda la maglietta 17, il progetto del matrimonio u.u e quando la soccorre. Questo per quanto riguarda la coppia.

- Nessun punto a sfavore.
☞ PROTAGONISTA MASCHILE: Ryan Flynn o meglio conosciuto come L’uomo di Neanderthal
. Un personaggio sexy e affascinante.
DIFETTI: Ha un leggero problema a controllare la rabbia sul campo
e la gelosia. PREGI: ha delle sfaccettature interessanti del suo carattere che lo rendono più avvicinabile come l’insicurezza che dimostra quando si approccia con Kat. La sua Kate.
☞ PROTAGONISTA FEMMINILE: Kathryn Lecour
Indipendente e forte. Una donna che sa cosa vuole e per fortuna lo dimostra anche con Evan.
☞ PERSONAGGI SECONDARI
Tra i personaggi più interessanti della squadra, e quelli che bisognerebbe tenere d’occhio secondo il mio modestissimo parere, sono:
- Simba: il capitano della Squadra Dragons.
- Loki, il fratello rompiballe di Kat. L’episodio con Ryan in pista poteva evitarlo.
- Mark Rafferty. Tenete bene a mente questo nome, penso che ne vedremo ancora delle belle con questo ragazzaccio
. Chissà come mai ma continuo ad immaginarmi così il coach

While I've read many of RJ Scott's M/M books and loved them, this is the first of her M/F stories that I've tried. Verdict? She's just as good on this side, and I'm excited to continue following the Ice Dragons series as it unfolds! The brother's best friend/best friend's sister trope is always a favorite-you've got an entwined past and a built-in tension already established, and now add to this that's it's a hockey romance too? My boxes were getting ticked off left and right.
I loved Ryan's fiercely protective attitude when it came to Kat-he's just as protective as her brother Loki is without being overbearing about it. Kat seemed a bit timid and reticent at first when it came to her boyfriend Evan, but as the story went on it felt like she became less reserved and more likely to go for what she wants and make her thoughts known. Kat and Ryan are a great match, and their chemistry together is quite obvious.
I really liked getting the story from both Kat and Ryan's points of view, it gave the book more depth and as a reader I had a better understanding of each character's thoughts and motivations. As far as the supporting characters, they were well rounded and piqued my interest so that I really want to get their stories as well (especially Loki, but also Simba and the twins...fingers crossed!). The way Loki wanted to protect his sister and not let her get hurt was sweet, if a bit oppressive at times-it was easy to see how much he cared about her.
The tension in the story comes primarily from the "off-limits" aspect and then once Kat and Ryan get together, the prospect of telling Loki. There's not a lot of conflict, but honestly this story didn't need it-the relationship between them is center stage, and makes for a good story without any extra drama.
The Code was a 4.5-star read for me, and if you're a fan of hockey romance-or any contemporary romance-then this is one you'll want to add to your library. This book is for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content-which is nice and steamy without overtaking the story. It's a great start to the series, and I can't wait for the rest of the books in this series to start releasing!

This book contains double the goodness - a sports romance and a brother's best friend romance.
Ryan promised his best friend Nicky that he'd help protect Nicky's sister Kathryn, particularly from guys like them. Problem is Ryan wants Kathryn and she is the one girl he can't have.
Kathryn has wanted her brother's best friend Ryan since she knew what boys were for. She is all grown up now and working as a paramedic, while the overprotective men in her life try to get her to settle down and take up less dangerous employment.
Our couple have a strong chemistry, but as they circle each other there is at times a sweet awkwardness as well. One thing that really shines through is Ryan's respect for Kathryn, for her work, her choices and her intelligence. Ryan is aggressive guy on the ice but he is a good man. The story is not all about the romance. We also get to see Ryan's life as an ice hockey player, from the team dealing with injuries and disappointment, to the worry of potentially being traded to another team.
The Code is a good balance of sport and romance and I loved it. Simba's story is up next and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I am a big sports romance fan, and this is a great start to a new series. There is something about a hockey team and the fact that it can be changed so quickly, due to trades etc., that makes it really important that the characters work straight away - and Ms Scott has definitely given us a team of players worthy of our attention. Whilst the story concentrates mainly on two, there are plenty more waiting in the wings for future installments.
This is a story which works well, because tying the successes of the game to the emotional feelings of Ryan, gives us a quick barometer as to how things are progressing. Watching him avoid situations which will cause him to want to breach the code, remind us of what an honourable man he is, even if we wish otherwise. By getting Kat's viewpoint, we see that she is just as hungry, but certain that she is not enough for Ryan - rather than understanding that she is possibly too much. As the story develops, and we are drawn into the maelstrom of feelings that need an outlet, it is very satisfying when they finally open up to each other.
A really good story, with some lovely funny moments along with the tension, and I am looking forward to the next book with great interest.

Promises made while drunk is never a smart thing and if you remember, it’s even worse. Best friends, Nicolas and Ryan, agree to never let a jock hurt Nicolas’s sister Kat. This came about after they chased off her prom date. Unfortunately, this promise included Ryan. He’s a hockey player, so by definition a jock. Kat has always been that one beacon that drew Ryan straight to her but should know to stay away from since it’s a warning of imminent danger capable of ruining anything that came close, including lifelong friendships. The attraction has always been there between Ryan and Kat but it’s always been kept at a distance. That changed when Kat asks Ryan to kiss her so she can forget her very bad night of being used as a human shield and having Ryan pick her up from the police station. The one kiss is the match that lights the fuse which that can destroy Ryan’s lifelong friendship with his best friend but get a chance to be with the girl who’s always meant to be his.

Another great read from RJ Scott. I do like a good 'falling for your best friends sister' books and mixed with ice hockey even better. Moral of the story, never make promises to your best friend when drunk!
Ryan promises his best friend Nicolas to never let a 'jock' hurt his sister Kay after they have chased off her prom date. As Ryan is a I've Hockey player this included him too. Of course the attraction has always been between Kat and Ryan but it's always been kept at a distance mainly by Ryan after he kissed her tears away after Prom.
Kat goes through something scary and turns to Ryan, she wants him to 'kiss the bad memories away'. Of course this is like lightening a match near an open flame, won't take long to catch fire.
Will Ryan ruin his lifelong friendship for the girl that's always meant to be his?

Of course the attraction has always been between Kat and Ryan but it's always been kept at a distance mainly by Ryan after he kissed her tears away after Prom.
Kat goes through something scary and turns to Ryan, she wants him to 'kiss the bad memories away'. Of course this is like lightening a match near an open flame, won't take long to catch fire.
Will Ryan ruin his lifelong friendship for the girl that's always meant to be his?
Loved all the characters in this book and I can't wait to read what happens next in the series

I live in Minnesota, where we bleed hockey. I'm an avid Wild fan and have an ice rink in my barn, so hockey does it for me... and so does The Code. It's the perfect blend of sports and romance, the characters are authentic, and the story is both tough and tender. I loved Ryan, with his rough and tumble outside and sweet center. Kat's relationship with her brother, Ryan's best friend, is complex and influences her life choices for far too long, but once she comes out of her shell she does it in a big way. Four stars to RJ for drawing me in, making me fall in love with her characters, and keeping me rooting for the home team.

First book I can recall by this author that I have read. I look forward to another book about another team member.

You know me and hockey romances. I just love them! But, they have to meet certain criteria for me.
The romance has to be believable and real. The characters need to be at least a little flawed. The sex scenes have to be sensual if not smoking and there has to be some sports action. Ms. Scott meets and exceeds all my needs in "The Code". It's a wonderful M/F romance filled with great hockey action, heartwarming family moments, and a truly engaging couple leading lady and man. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

Read to about 65%, skimmed the rest.
Now, before I start, don't get me wrong: I love the whole "i'm in love with my older brother's best friend" trope. I love the bit of forbidden-ness that comes with that trope and the potential for long simmering desire/longing.
I loved the side characters, I loved the hero, I even loved the older brother. I understood where he was coming from being so over protective: he'd practically raised the heroine after the death of their parents. She chose a (kind of) dangerous job (paramedic) so of COURSE he'd be worried about that and being a sports star himself I understood why he'd be adverse to other sports stars shacking up with his sister. I got the obstacles being set up for the hero and heroine. It was believable and interesting.
The writing wasn't GREAT but it was good enough for it to not be a glaring problem. There was a right amount of drama and hockey lingo to not make it feel too bland and at the same time not so much that things were just flying at my face with no breathing room.
So why didn't i love this book?
the god damn FUCKING heroine that's why. She pretty much ruined this book for me.
The Code is told in third person, alternating POV's between the hero (Ryan) and the heroine (Kat/Katheryn). The hero was kind and protective and friendly both in HIS POV and when it wasn't his POV.
I understood why he didn't want to potentially ruin his friendship with the heroine, Kat, and his best friend Loki/Nicky. He'd made a promise not to let a hockey dude or any jock for that matter get near her. And even had that promise not been a factor, there was still the fact that their relationship might not work out which could potentially put a damper on all their relationships as friends. I got his reluctance, his fear. I understood where he was coming from.
But fucking Kat?
Didn't understand where she was coming from.
When the POV wasn't Kat's she was a distant, cold, jerk half the time and scrapping the bottom of the barrel when it came to "friends" the other half of the tme. She treated Ryan like he was annoying, like him just existing was a bother to her. She didn't like him interfering, didn't show gratitude when he saves her (either acting like she could handle it or just ignoring his kindness altogether), and just didn't act like she was a friend, let alone secretly in love/lust with Ryan. I can't even remember if she honestly thanked him when he did something nice for her? Like??? that should be common courtesy? Ain't they supposed to be long time friends or something?
Ryan literally had to tell him to fuck off because Evan wouldn't take her "this relationship is over" as final. She refused to lay it down that they were through, kaput, done, no more, and so her half assed attempt at dumping him only made him that much more clingy. And what did she do? She stood there and let him touch her and act like they were still together. Why? Cause she "didn't want to cause a scene". So WHO "handled" this problem at the end of the day?
Fucking. Ryan.
And did he cause a scene? NO.
There were just so many similar instances like this: she'd half ass something, Ryan would save her ass, she'd bitch that he needs to mind his own fucking business or leave her alone, and she fuck off leaving Ryan to secretly pine for her. Then the fuck cycle would start all over again.
She is what I like to call "Miss Independent". She sure as hell loves to bitch and moan and shove in your face how independent and self serving she is but she's really fucking weak willed and a push over when it counts. Oh, she can stand up to Ryan when he insists that she go to the hospital but putting her foot down and telling her boyfriend they're finished? Nah, that's just "too much" for her. Kat was independent and TSTL stubborn when it came to Ryan but not when it came to other people in the story. She just wasn't independent when it counted and it pissed me off.
If you're going to have an overly independent and stubborn heroine have her be that way with EVERYONE not with ONE fucking person.
Now when it WAS her POV, I didn't get if she was in love with Ryan for YEARS or was just starting to fall for him. There seemed to be a "more than friends" history there but as soon as it was brought up it was just as quickly dropped. She thought about Ryan a lot but not in the "sigh i love him/his body" way but in a "Ryan is dependable and kind but I must keep my distance.... cause....... (never finishes thought or is interrupted from her thinking)".
Which leads to why in the fuck SHE didn't want things to go farther with Ryan. Once or twice she vaguely mentioned she thought Ryan thought of her as a kid sister but she never really delves into that. If anything, the way Ryan treats her and the way other people mention how focused and attentive he is with her should have CONVINCED her to even a small degree that he was at least attracted to her. But no- EVERY FUCKING TIME- SHE is the one that says "you're like an older brother". He, not once, says this to her or treats her like a kid sister. If anything this bitch is the one throwing mixed signals, making him kiss her and then acting like nothing happened/pushing him away the next second.
I wanted to scream.
At this point (around 65%) I was checking out mentally. I like to at least know where the fuck the main characters are mentally by the time I'm HALF WAY THROUGH the fucking book be it lust, love, hatred. I don't care. I just want to know WHERE they are and I didn't who where the hell the heroine was mentally.
I'm glad I did too because she didn't make up her mind about how she felt or the situation in general until 85% of the book and then like a light switch being turned on they just up and admit they love each other like that. There was no slow build up no slow tearing down of defenses or obstacles. They just decide that they love each other. You're telling me these two stubborn as shit dumbasses just drop everything and accept they love each other. OPENLY??? Nah. There needed to be some sort of transition instead of dumping all their insecurities like a hot potato to admit they love each other like that.
By then i was out. Didn't seem worth it to finish it.

Inizio col dire che questo libro, sinceramente, non mi ha molto entusiasmato. All’inizio ero entusiasta, mi piacciono molto i libri che coinvolgono anche lo sport, però mi è un pò caduto. Non ci sono stati quei colpi di scena che ti dicono “wow è incredibile, questo libro è fantastico” niente di tutto ciò … C’è il solito problema che la sorella del migliore amico è bellissima e fantastica ma è vietata a chiunque. Questo “concetto” penso che un autore debba saperlo trattare bene perché, come ho detto prima, si rischia di cadere nel banale. Trovo che il carattere di Kat sia anche troppo accomodante, è la tipica ragazza che crede di poter uscire da qualunque situazione ma alla fine non riesce se non con l’aiuto di qualcuno. Una cosa che mi ha fatto davvero divertire è stato il nome di uno dei compagni di squadra dei ragazzi, SIMBA, parliamone! ahhahaha

The Code is the first book in the Ice Dragons Hockey series, and we start with Ryan, a defense player and best friend to Loki. Kat is Loki's sister, and he made Ryan promise many years ago that he would look after Kat, and not let her be with any 'players'. That's okay until it is Ryan who is the one who longs to be with her.
This is very well written, with plenty of action on the ice, plus slow and sensual tension between Ryan and Kat. The honest confusion was brilliant to read about, and something I'm sure we can all relate to.
With no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow, this is a wonderful start to a new series that I look forward to reading more about. Definitely recommended.

If I had to choose my absolute favorite type of book, hands down it will always be a hockey romance. I am a lover of the sport and there is just something about this type of book that I absolutely love. But with that being said, I am a very picky reader when it comes to my Hot Hockey Hunks and have to say I enjoyed Ryan and Kat’s story.
Kat and her brother Nicholas lost their parents as teenagers and Nicholas has not only been a brother to her since that time but also a parent. So to say he is over protective when it comes to having a man in her life, it’s a bit of an understatement. Nicholas’ long time best friend and teammate Ryan Flinn has been like a brother to Kat but along the way something changed and something more happened between them. They tried to avoid it and avoid each other but when Kat found herself in trouble and her brother wasn’t able to come to her rescue, her second choice was Ryan. It will always be Ryan. And once again they share a kiss and realize there is more there. Ryan decides that even though he promised to look out for Kat and never let her be with one of them, he throws caution to the wind and puts his feelings for Kat first, but how will he tell that to her brother and his best friend.
I really enjoyed Kat’s character. She was such a strong female, not letting her ex-boyfriend nor her brother rule her life. She loved her job, she could take care of herself and she wasn’t going to let anyone especially a man stop her from doing what she wanted to do.
I absolutely loved Ryan. He was such a great sweet caring guy. Yes being a pro hockey player, he had his time as being a love ‘em and leave ‘em kind of guy but he truly cared for and love Kat and would do everything in his power to protect her and never hurt her. He also cared about his teammates and his best friend. He carried the weight of the guilt over his friend getting hurt and was determined to set it right with the guy that hurt him. He took care of those he loved. I also loved how thoughtful and caring he was toward Kat and that even though they his their relationship at first, he always wanted to be truthful and upfront with his friend.
The Code is written in third person so it took me a bit to get engaged in the story and connect with the characters but once I did, I didn’t seem to mind the third person as much and really connected to both characters. It was a really enjoyable story and I enjoyed getting to meet the other characters that I hope we will later get to see more of their story. I did enjoy the dynamic of Ryan and Kat’s story although I did find it a bit slow paced in the beginning but once it picked up the pace was good. And although there have been unspoken feelings between these two for a long time, I found the ending a bit rushed and would have loved to seen a bit more of their story and of them being together. But overall still a really great enjoyable read. This may have been my first book by this author but will definitely be checking out more of her Hockey hunks for sure.

It was the others. Ryan I felt was a little off for me. I am quite OK with the hero being all big and tough, yet gentle and loving. But Ryan felt a little off somehow to me. It isnt horrible, in fact, I couldnt quite get my finger on it. There was just something that rubbed me wrong. Aside from this I LOVE the characters. I enjoyed the way t played out and even the writing style was really good.

RECENSIONE DI SAMUELA
Il romanzo di cui vi parlo oggi in anteprima è Il codice- Ice Dragons hockey di R. J Scott, autrice conosciuta e apprezzata per i suoi romanzi M/M. Questa volta ci propone uno sport-romance classico con dei protagonisti maschili tremendamente sexy e affascinanti. Personalmente adoro gli sport-romance, in questi ultimi anni ne ho letti parecchi e devo essere sincera, nutrivo grosse aspettative su questo romanzo e purtroppo non sono rimasta pienamente soddisfatta, e cercherò di spiegarvi il perché.
Kat e il fratello Nicolas, Loki per gli amici, hanno perso i genitori, quando erano ancora degli adolescenti, da quel giorno Nicolas non è stato per Kat solo un fratello maggiore, ma ha cercato di farle sia da padre che da madre, manifestando negli gli anni un senso di protezione sempre più opprimente. Anche adesso che Kat è un’adulta la situazione non è cambiata molto, lei è un paramedico che lavora in una caserma dei vigili del fuoco e di conseguenza ha a che fare con il pericolo tutti i giorni, cosa che mette Loki tremendamente in apprensione. Una sera qualunque a fine turno, Kat si reca in una stazione di servizio per fare rifornimento e prendere un caffè, non poteva certo immaginare che sarebbe stata coinvolta in una rapina e che il rapinatore l’avrebbe presa in ostaggio. Seppur con qualche graffio e qualche ecchimosi di troppo, ne uscirà viva, ma avrà bisogno dell’aiuto di qualcuno per rientrare a casa, dopo aver lasciato la sua deposizione alla polizia. Non potendo chiamare in aiuto il fratello, perché impossibilitato a muoversi a causa di un infortunio subito durante una partita di hockey, l’unica opzione che le resta è quella di chiamare Ryan, migliore amico di Loki e suo compagno di squadra. Ryan come Nicolas, è sempre stato una costante nella vita di Kat: c’era quando i suoi genitori sono morti, c’era quando il primo fidanzatino le ha spezzato il cuore durante il ballo del diploma. Lui ha sempre fatto un po’ le veci del fratello, del resto ha promesso a Nicolas che si sarebbe sempre preso cura di lei e che non avrebbe mai lasciato che un atleta, di qualsiasi ordine o specie, le si avvicinasse. Loro sanno come agiscono gli atleti: ti usano e poi ti gettano via, non vogliono legami, e Kat potrebbe soffrirne. Quello che però Kat e Nicolas non sanno è che per Ryan mantenere quella promessa è una tortura, perché sin da quando erano ragazzini, è sempre stato innamorato di lei e vorrebbe solo poterla stringere, confessarle tutto il suo amore e baciarla, ma non può farlo, perché tiene troppo alla loro amicizia e non la tradirebbe mai; e poi esiste una CODICE tra amici, esistono delle regole e Kat è una di quelle.
Ma la sera in cui Kat chiederà ancora il suo aiuto e gli ruberà un bacio, tutto il suo autocontrollo e la sua razionalità, andranno a farsi benedire, del resto lei è l’unica donna di cui sia mai stato realmente innamorato, e forse per amore è disposto a mettere a rischio l’amicizia con Loki. Kat, dal canto suo non sembra essere indifferente alle attenzioni che Ryan le riserva. Riusciranno a confessarsi il loro amore reciproco? E se lo faranno, saranno disposti a rischiare tutto?
Come ho già accennato all’inizio di questa recensione, avevo grosse aspettative su questo romanzo, purtroppo, e lo dico a malincuore, sono rimasta un po’ delusa, mi aspettavo di provare qualche emozione in più, non è scattata la scintilla. Mi aspettavo di leggere una storia più articolata, una trama più intricata, con un approfondimento psicologico importante, e invece ho trovato tutto appena accennato e frettoloso. Personalmente, credo che la componente psicologica sia una parte fondamentale per la buona riuscita di un romanzo, e qui la Scott avrebbe sicuramente potuto fare molto di più, perché i protagonisti sono due bei personaggi, sarebbe bastato solo dagli un po’ più di spessore. Paradossalmente, trovo che l’autrice abbia curato di più la loro contestualizzazione. Il mondo dell’hockey è descritto alla perfezione, nei minimi dettagli, a partire dai contratti, gli schemi di gioco, alle dinamiche sportive.
Il romanzo segue lo schema dei pov alternati, ma è scritto in terza persona e purtroppo questo aspetto lo penalizza, perché l’uso della terza persona, crea una sorta di distacco tra il lettore e i protagonisti. Chi legge spesso, non riesce a farsi coinvolgere appieno dalla storia, si limita ad essere un semplice spettatore, fa fatica a provare empatia, almeno è quello che succede a me. Un aspetto positivo è che il romanzo è scritto bene, l’autrice ha una buona padronanza linguistica e la lettura risulta scorrevole. Le poche scene di sesso sono molto sensuali e mai volgari.
Nel complesso IL CODICE è una lettura piacevole, fresca, leggera e per nulla pretenziosa.
Se amate gli sport-romance e siete alla ricerca di una lettura poco impegnativa, che sia un mix di ironia-romanticismo e sensualità, allora dategli una possibilità, magari voi riuscirete ad apprezzarlo più di quanto non sono riuscita a fare io.

Il romanzo di cui vi parlo oggi in anteprima è Il codice- Ice Dragons hockey di R. J Scott, autrice conosciuta e apprezzata per i suoi romanzi M/M. Questa volta ci propone uno sport-romance classico con dei protagonisti maschili tremendamente sexy e affascinanti. Personalmente adoro gli sport-romance, in questi ultimi anni ne ho letti parecchi e devo essere sincera, nutrivo grosse aspettative su questo romanzo e purtroppo non sono rimasta pienamente soddisfatta, e cercherò di spiegarvi il perché.
Kat e il fratello Nicolas, Loki per gli amici, hanno perso i genitori, quando erano ancora degli adolescenti, da quel giorno Nicolas non è stato per Kat solo un fratello maggiore, ma ha cercato di farle sia da padre che da madre, manifestando negli gli anni un senso di protezione sempre più opprimente. Anche adesso che Kat è un’adulta la situazione non è cambiata molto, lei è un paramedico che lavora in una caserma dei vigili del fuoco e di conseguenza ha a che fare con il pericolo tutti i giorni, cosa che mette Loki tremendamente in apprensione. Una sera qualunque a fine turno, Kat si reca in una stazione di servizio per fare rifornimento e prendere un caffè, non poteva certo immaginare che sarebbe stata coinvolta in una rapina e che il rapinatore l’avrebbe presa in ostaggio. Seppur con qualche graffio e qualche ecchimosi di troppo, ne uscirà viva, ma avrà bisogno dell’aiuto di qualcuno per rientrare a casa, dopo aver lasciato la sua deposizione alla polizia. Non potendo chiamare in aiuto il fratello, perché impossibilitato a muoversi a causa di un infortunio subito durante una partita di hockey, l’unica opzione che le resta è quella di chiamare Ryan, migliore amico di Loki e suo compagno di squadra. Ryan come Nicolas, è sempre stato una costante nella vita di Kat: c’era quando i suoi genitori sono morti, c’era quando il primo fidanzatino le ha spezzato il cuore durante il ballo del diploma. Lui ha sempre fatto un po’ le veci del fratello, del resto ha promesso a Nicolas che si sarebbe sempre preso cura di lei e che non avrebbe mai lasciato che un atleta, di qualsiasi ordine o specie, le si avvicinasse. Loro sanno come agiscono gli atleti: ti usano e poi ti gettano via, non vogliono legami, e Kat potrebbe soffrirne. Quello che però Kat e Nicolas non sanno è che per Ryan mantenere quella promessa è una tortura, perché sin da quando erano ragazzini, è sempre stato innamorato di lei e vorrebbe solo poterla stringere, confessarle tutto il suo amore e baciarla, ma non può farlo, perché tiene troppo alla loro amicizia e non la tradirebbe mai; e poi esiste una CODICE tra amici, esistono delle regole e Kat è una di quelle.
Ma la sera in cui Kat chiederà ancora il suo aiuto e gli ruberà un bacio, tutto il suo autocontrollo e la sua razionalità, andranno a farsi benedire, del resto lei è l’unica donna di cui sia mai stato realmente innamorato, e forse per amore è disposto a mettere a rischio l’amicizia con Loki. Kat, dal canto suo non sembra essere indifferente alle attenzioni che Ryan le riserva. Riusciranno a confessarsi il loro amore reciproco? E se lo faranno, saranno disposti a rischiare tutto?
Come ho già accennato all’inizio di questa recensione, avevo grosse aspettative su questo romanzo, purtroppo, e lo dico a malincuore, sono rimasta un po’ delusa, mi aspettavo di provare qualche emozione in più, non è scattata la scintilla. Mi aspettavo di leggere una storia più articolata, una trama più intricata, con un approfondimento psicologico importante, e invece ho trovato tutto appena accennato e frettoloso. Recensione della Queen – “Il Codice” di RJ Scott è primo volume della Serie Ice Dragons Hockey edito Triskell Edizioni.
Smeraldine oggi vi parlo dell’ultima creazione della già conosciuta autrice RJ. Scott, che lascia il genere M/M per cimentarsi nella scrittura di uno sport-romance. Vermont, Sweetings Arena, squadra di Hockey degli Ice Dragon, Ryan Flynn numero 17 sulla maglia, il difensore alto moro e ben piazzato che difende il dischetto e i suoi compagni ad ogni costo sia dentro che fuori dalla pista del ghiaccio.
“Ryan faceva parte dei titolari, ma non era importante quanto Loki, o Simba; faceva il suo lavoro, era un difensore resistente che sgomberava il traffico per lasciar passare gli attaccanti”
Ryan e Nicky, rispettivamente difensore e attaccante della squadra, si conoscono fin da bambini, da quando a 10 anni dopo un brutto placcaggio durante una partita, invece di discutere, si misero a ridere a crepapelle consolidando così l’inizio della loro grande amicizia.
Nicky ha una sorella, Kat, che esercita come paramedico presso la caserma dei vigili del fuoco della città. I tre ragazzi sono cresciuti insieme, soprattutto dopo che i due fratelli rimangono orfani, condividendo ogni esperienza di vita. Kat è la sorellina piccola, anche se solo di pochi mesi, da proteggere da tutto e tutti, soprattutto dopo un ballo scolastico finito male per Kat, motivo per cui Nicky fa promettere a Ryan di proteggerla ad ogni costo e che mai e poi mai nessuno sportivo, soprattutto un giocatore di hockey, la possa avvicinare. Ma il destino vuole che la sera del ballo, Ryan per farla smettere di piangere, la bacia e poi scappa.
“Doveva essere l’amico di cui lei aveva bisogno, non l’uomo che l’aveva baciata per farla smettere di piangere la sera del ballo. Lo stesso uomo che si era tirato indietro e che non l’aveva rincorsa, quando lei era fuggita via. Lo stesso idiota che l’amava allora, e che adesso non riusciva ancora a immaginare la propria vita senza di lei”.
Da allora i suoi sentimenti per Kat non sono mai cambiati, anzi adesso è sempre più difficile resistere alla bellissima donna che è diventata, ma soprattutto non infrangere la promessa fatta al suo migliore amico. Una sera finito il turno di notte al lavoro, Kat si reca alla stazione di servizio per fare rifornimento, e assiste in prima persona ad una rapina armata dove viene presa come ostaggio, ma per fortuna tutto si risolve per il meglio, la polizia fa il suo dovere portando la giovane spaventata in Centrale. Chiama per farsi riportare a casa, il suo amico Ryan, di cui anche lei è segretamente innamorata da sempre, e una volta sotto casa, gli chiede un bacio per poter dimenticare la brutta sensazione del rapitore sulla propria pelle. Ma questo non fa altro che spingere i due ragazzi ad ammettere l’attrazione reciproca e niente sarà più come prima. Riusciranno a tenere nascosto questo sentimento a Nicky, che è ancora in fase di ripresa dopo un brutto infortunio?
Ho affrontato la lettura di questo libro piena di speranza e curiosità, perché sono una appassionata del genere sport-romance, e la trama mi aveva attirato all’istante. Ma devo ammettere che più mi addentravo nella lettura, e meno ero coinvolta, la storia è interessante e piena di spunti, ma ahimè non sono stati elaborati fino in fondo dall’autrice. Più della metà del libro, ci spiega gli schemi e le nozioni sulle tattiche di gioco; che sì, possono essere coinvolgenti per una appassionata, ma così descritte risultano molto tediose e portano il lettore a distrarsi facilmente. La storia dei due protagonisti è molto scarna e povera di contenuti, è la classica storia dei due migliori amici che condividono tutto a parte la sorellina di uno perché è off limits, ma inevitabilmente finisce per stare insieme al ragazzo che non doveva avvicinarsi a lei. Ho trovato molto bello lo stile dell’autrice, ha grandi potenzialità e sicuramente i suoi romanzi precedenti sono bellissimi, ma forse il cambio di genere ha influito molto sulla riuscita del libro. La scrittura è molto discorsiva e a tratti caotica, ho faticato molte volte a capire il concetto stesso. Sicuramente darò un’altra possibilità all’autrice con il prossimo volume della serie, perché questo libro è come una pietra grezza che ha bisogno di essere lavorata ed affinata per risultare splendente e bellissima.
Alla prossima recensione smeraldine, e perdonate la mia recensione non proprio positiva, ma il mondo è bello perché vario e la mia non vuole essere assolutamente una critica, ma soltanto un punto di vista da cui se vi va, potrete prendere spunto.
