A sinful boss secretary romance.

I’ve heard all the rumours: He killed his wife. He’s on house arrest. He’s a vampire. Yet still, when I get a job offer from the reclusive Mr. Hyde, I jump at the chance. Yes, I know I’m crazy.

I’m cautious at first, but then I discover a beautiful, quirky man. I also see a tortured soul who lives in darkness. I know I should run, yet I can’t tear myself away. I want to discover all his secrets. I desperately want to help him. And when he draws me deeper into his strange little world, I want to stay.

Author’s Note: Loving Ruby contains explicit sexual scenes and some coarse language. It is Book 2 of The Riverstone series but can be enjoyed as a standalone. If one wants to read the entire series, it is best to read them in chronological order to avoid spoilers.

5+++ Ruby Stars******

Loving Ruby is three hundred and eight pages of delicious decadence. The perfect romance; one that you do not want to miss.

Ruby Riverstone is a sweet and vivacious young woman. She has the dream and the talent to write and illustrate children's books, but she is having a little bit of a tough time with the execution. She's been helping her sister Amber with the family business, they have a B& B, and as much as Ruby loves being part of the family business, her heart is just not in it. Her big sister and best friend Amber, know that Ruby is not feeling fulfill working at the house so she practically forces Ruby to quit and go find something that will actually make her happy.

Very quickly Ruby finds the perfect job as a writer's PA, but she is a little hesitant to accept the position when she finds out that the job is actually very close to her home. Right across the street from Ruby there's a beautiful but very spooky house, where a strange and unknown man resides. A man the whole town has been talking about ever since he bought the sinister state right across from Ruby's family's property. Is he a murderer, a gangster, or a vampire? Nobody knows for sure, but Ruby is about to find out.

August Hyde turns out is a gorgeous and hugely successful erotica writer. He experienced a terrible tragedy that has made him a prisoner inside his own house. August hasn't seen the light of day for the past two years. He spends his days lost in a world of erotic stories and grief. Her new assistant Ruby will come in and brake through all the darkness with her beautiful light, impossible to resist.

Ruby and August will find in each other everything they need, but didn't even know they wanted. A fierce and sensual romance will ignite between them, breaking through all the walls built by the fear in their lives.

Roya Carmen is a master at creating unique stories, her boldness and creativity produce incredible journeys that make the reader's heart and soul feel full with excitement. Loving Ruby I must admit, has been my most, absolute favorite book by this author. Both characters in this story took deep hold of my heart and my emotions. Ruby was the perfect heroine, she was so bright, smart, and funny. And Mr. Hyde was alluring and sexy, in other words, these two characters were absolute perfection to me. Indulge in the pages of this amazing story, one I am sure you will never forget.

Mr. Hyde will see you now...

“Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.” - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Loving Ruby is the second book of Riverstone Series and to be honest, I was really loking forward to read this book especially knowing it's about the reclusive Mr. Hyde and the carefree Ruby. I was so intrigued with him that I was jumping with glee when he's paired up with Ruby. Such a perfect pair. A reclusive hero, rumored as a widow and on a house arrest, suspected for his late wife's murder. Funny, it has been speculated he's a vampire but God, nobody gossiped how breathtakingly beautiful he is. A man behind his dark erotica novels. So intense but behind that lies a soft heart and a sweet soul. Entered Ruby, a passionate woman, sweet kind and a rebel in her own ways. She loves people and even thrives for their company. These two are just the opposites of the opposites, where Mr.Hyde is a shattered man, resigned to a world of darkness, Ruby is such a bright, vibrant woman. However, as science puts it, Opposites attract. And so yes their attraction is really something you need to look forward to. Ahhh... I was really rooting for this two.

I admit, those first few pages really had me. I love Roya's words because let's be honest here, she's really has a way with prose. In fact, her storyline is beautiful and it's something that would really piqued someone's interest. Mine included of course. So as I mentioned, the first few pages hooked me. I was astounded with the author's way of thinking.I was reading with my mind and heart racing. Racing because I was anticipating what's bound to happen. I keep on turning the pages even because I was eager to know the deepest darkest secrets of Mr.Hyde and how will Ruby gonna act on it. So many questions lingered on my mind. And I was on the edge because of how thick the sexual tension between these two. I was soooo anticipating the intensity of their interaction and the explosion that I was looking forward to happen. It's how I was teasesd by the author reading this book, that's why I was kinda devastated because I did not felt that explosion and the intensity of the interaction. Nearing around 60-70% the fire burning waned. The scenes turned out dragging and I feel like the end was even a bit rushed.

Don't get me wrong, as I said the storyline is beautiful but then at some point it really had me feel stagnant. The passion I was looking was gone in an instant. It felt hot and cold at some point even. Yes, erotic scenes were there, but it lacks the connection and the intensity I felt at the start and even halfway of the story. I felt conflicted. But then, I could be wrong, maybe I set too much expectation and it's just how Roya Carmen wanted to portray the characters interaction and the characters itself.

But then, to sum up it was really a good story of a broken man who thought he'll be forever in the darkness, shattered, broken. And how a vibrant woman lead him, trusted him, believed him and even shed light in him. And one more thing, I soooo appreciated the how being "soul mate" was portrayed in this book. That Prologue and that ending made an impact.

Review by Lisa Kane

Ruby Riverstone is Amber's younger sister, the sassy, light hearted one we met in Loving Amber. She's a little lost, has tried to fit in to working at the family's business, but it's an epic fail. She's trying to find a job when she sees and ad for an assistant to a writer. This job is perfect for her! She applies but doesn't think she will even score an interview.

I've heard many things these past two years about the infamous reclusive Mr. Hyde. Ever since he took ownership of the Kimble estate, he's all the locals have been gossiping about. Everyone knows he's extremely reclusive, and stories about him abound. Some have even speculated that he may be a vampire. It would explain why he's never seen outside.

August Hyde is a writer. A best selling writer. He has money, looks and talent. What he doesn't have is a life outside the walls of his mansion. He moved there a few years ago, after tragedy crippled his life and he hasn't left his house since. But his career is booming and he needs help. He needs someone to help with his social media, teasers, promos. So he finally breaks down and advertises for an assistant.

I suck in a long breath as I leave my contact info, hoping she's everything I'm looking for.

Ruby is not exactly indifferent to August herself. Can she work with him and keep things completely business? Does she want to keep things strictly professional? Yes, yes she needs this job...

Despite all the speculation and gossip, one thing was never mentioned...
This strange reclusive man is breathtakingly beautiful.

Ruby is perfect for the job, but August is knocked over when he meets her in person. He's treading water right now-she is too much of a distraction. He may write erotic romance for a living, but he doesn't need a walking fantasy messing with his work or his head. But he goes against his better judgement and hire her.

Finally, after almost three years, I have found myself at a place where I am content and at peace. I don't need any more. No, I'm quite happy in the comfort and safe harbour of my home.

That's when things get interesting. August (this is his pen name, he hides his real self from everyone) blows hot and cold. He wants Ruby, but he pushes her away and she could get a cold from the Arctic blast coming off of him.

August wants to break free of his fears, but his past holds him back. Ruby makes him want more from his life but he can't be pushed too fast too far.

"You're pushing me too much. You push too hard, too fast. You seem to forget I've been hiding for two years."

Will Ruby get through to August? Can he ever get past what happened to scar him?

I've finally let her in.
It takes me by surprise. Ruby Riverstone is sneaky that way; she slips in without you even realizing and grabs a tight hold of your heart.

Sometimes a broken heart just needs the right person to come alive to mend it together. Sometimes it doesn't want to let anyone else in. It's cracked and it's flawed and it's going to make sure that it never feels that kind of pain again.

Ruby is the one. The soul mate I had no idea was waiting for me.

Loving Ruby is an emotional and angsty story that is full of lows and highs yet that is what makes this a great romance read. The perfect romance, the forbidden delight, one book you do not want to miss. This is book 2 in the Riverstone Series, one I have been waiting a while to read because I loved book 1 very much. This is the story about the reclusive Mr. Hyde and the creative and sweet Ruby Riverstone. Oh the stories that abound about our hero, stories that he is a vampire to a murderer on the run to being on house arrest. None that are the truth but they sure spice up things yet our hero is tortured, he has a secret that he hides about what he does for a living. Ruby comes to work for August Hyde and the more she comes to know about him, the more she finds him complex and dark yet delicious and seductive and also attractive. Theirs is a case of Opposites attract. Ruby loves people and loves company while Mr. Hyde would rather be in a dark room, by his lonesome. There is so much going on yet Ruby slowly starts to bring Mr, Hyde out of his shell and into the light but the deep dark secrets of Mr Hyde are going to come into play and can and will cause some an impact, will it leave them intact or break this romantic duo apart for good? Oh this author knows how to write a great romance with the angst and passion like here and boy, she had me hooked. I cannot wait for book 3 in this series. Kudos to this author for writing a tear jeaker with a scene stealer ending.

Both of them came across to me as quite childish and selfish. Seemed to me neither knew the meaning of compromise till the last page. And then suddenly it was sacrifice.
And it was just too hot and cold, and lacked consistency and maturity. Sorry, really not my thing!
I mean your girlfriend has a book launch dude! It's kinda a really big thing, it is actually NOT too much to ask for you to be there and for once ask you to push your limit a little bit and show your support on a nerve wrecking moment for her. No it's all about you and she had disappointed you by asking too much and not showing support and not accepting you as you are? What about her? And her friends telling her to accept him as he is? Umm no. Tell her she deserves better because she does but show her support if she still wants the emotionally crippled. And the sheer arrogance of him saying he forgave her, you pathetic little creep. She didn't do anything wrong. She was trying to work on the relationship and YOU refused.
Two stars max.

Roya has magic in her hands while weaving stories. Even simplest of the stories have so much depth in it that it will blow your mind. Her characters's imperfection make their love story more intense and addictive. I have been dying to know about the mysterious man in the castle who is described as recluse, vampire and that added the mysteriousness in the story and I wanted to how it would play out with Ruby and him. Ruby fascinated me since I read Loving Amber and I loved getting inside her head. Mr Hyde was sweet, a bit jerk in a good way ;) very sexy and his monologues and his story teared me a bit. Highly recommend this book.

Book: Loving Ruby

Author: Roya Carmen

Series: The Riverstone series #2

Release date: 19 January, 2017

Main characters: Ruby Riverstone, our creative heroine who is struggling to find her career path. August Hyde, reclusive hero whose life is about to be turned upside down by Ruby.

Plot: Would-be illustrator Ruby is struggling to find her niche in life. When she spots a job advert online, she’s convinced it’s the ideal role for her. Social media PA and beta reader to an author? Dream job. She doesn’t realise her boss is the enigmatic and reclusive August Hyde – who also happens to be her neighbour. His reputation for being difficult, demanding and plain weird is legendary, and as nervous as she is, Ruby is determined to succeed in her new job.

August is used to his solitude. He works, works and works some more. He rarely leaves the house and makes others come to him. He knows what the town thinks of him and he doesn’t let it bother him. Too much. When Ruby steps into his world he’s immediately drawn to her. Her liveliness, her beauty and her intelligence captivate him. Which, for a reclusive man still grieving the death of his wife, is a problem.

Ruby is drawn into August’s private little world quite quickly. By reading his work, she is granted a glimpse of his inner workings and some of his darker desires. She wants to know more, but struggles to maintain some professional distance. The lines between boss and employee are about to be blurred, then redrawn as the pair confront their attraction. Will either survive it if it all goes wrong?

Why you should read it: Oh my! I had a feeling this book would be hot and seriously fun, and I wasn’t wrong! My previous read was a pretty heavy series, so this book was just what I needed. The chemistry between Ruby and August really worked for me. There was not much back and forth, it flowed well and was light on the angst. What appealed to me was the depth of feeling both characters were dealing with. Dual points of view can be a bit hit and miss at times, but in this story it worked really well. You get fully rounded characters and a truly enjoyable story.

What you may not like: Erm…nada, rien, niente. It was pitch perfect in my opinion. Good chemistry between the characters, nicely paced. No repetitive dialogues. I loved it all. This is shaping up into a really strong series.

Rating: 5/5 for a truly exciting and sexy read. The scenes are seriously hot. Be warned.

I love this author and her writing. Roya knows how to draw you into a story from the start. With this book it was easier than that because this is book 2 in the Riverstone Estate books, so we met Ruby in book 1 and I just loved her character. I was so excited to see that she was getting her own book. She is the sister to Amber. She’s young, feisty, sassy, sweet, funny, and hilarious. It isn’t necessary to read Amber’s book first as this one can be considered a standalone.

I really enjoyed the storyline. I wasn’t sure when I began reading it where the story was going but the more I got into it and discovered August Hyde’s secrets the more I wanted to know more. August ran hot and cold from each encounter. I’m glad we got his POV otherwise I would have hated him. It was nice to get into his head and try to figure him out.

While I loved the story, I just wished there was a little more angst…and trust me, I’m hitting my head on the table right now because I can’t believe I just said that but I just felt like there needed to be a little more and that’s why I gave it 4 stars. Don’t get me wrong! This was a GREAT book! A must read! I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

After reading LOVING AMBER I was so intrigued by the mysterious man that had moved into the Estate near the Riverstones. I had also fallen in love with the wild child sister, Ruby. Reading LOVING RUBY was a treat because it features a reclusive hero that is not often the dominating alpha we read about all the time. But he was also strong and assertive in certain areas of his life. The dual image of his character was interesting and I can totally see how Ruby fell for his charms.

At first, the intrigue worked really well for me. In fact, I was so into the story I didn't want to put it down. But I think somewhere around the middle it went from great to ok. It lost a bit of steam. That's not to say the chemistry between Ruby and her Mr. Hyde was not excellent, still. They even had some extra hot moments. But the build up that had kept me glued to the pages at first didn't deliver in the way I expected. And that's exactly that. It boils down to expectations. The story was still good, I just wanted them to explode together, but turned out their personalities deep down were just slightly different than that.

All in all, this was a fun take on an office romance. Ruby working as an author's assistant for Mr. Hyde, working out of his home after she's heard the rumors that he's a widow and on house arrest for the murder of his wife. What is the truth about the mysterious man? Uncovering that was part of the fun and I think Ruby was just the type of personality he needed in his life to draw that out of him and get him living again. But this review wouldn't be complete if we don't mention the adorable pet that is Mr. Hyde's best friend. Loved that little addition, which made his character more endearing even as it added to his quirky personality.

There is something still very alluring about the setting and the story of this family and this series and I can't wait to continue reading to see what happens next.

August Hyde was a private man. He kept himself secluded from society in every way possible since the tragic loss of his wife. Guilt was a powerful feeling. He poured his soul into his writing and only focused on doing so. His novels and precious bird, Miko, were the only things that mattered.

Ruby was jobless. Coming across what seemed like the perfect opportunity for employment, she interviewed for the position of a bestselling author's PA. Upon meeting Mr. Hyde, Ruby was intrigued and much to August's dismay, so was he.

Their relationship, work and otherwise, was rocky. Slowly but surely, Ruby helped August open up begin his healing process for the first time since his wife. I liked how she challenged him and made him want to do things he had been terrified of doing for the past couple of years.

Overall, Loving Ruby was a good book. The idea behind the storyline was unique and promising. I only wish I'd fallen in love with it. Personally, I never connected with the characters and felt like there was a lot of awkwardness throughout the story. Towards the end, however, I did feel like I understood August a lot more and even found myself rooting for him. The last 15ish percent was probably my favorite part. The actual ending, however, did feel rushed and left me wishing it had it been developed more. That said, as I mentioned above, Loving Ruby IS a good book and one I'm sure a lot of readers will enjoy especially if they're in the mood for some HOT scenes.

Loving Ruby (Riverstone Estate #2) by Roya Carmen
4 stars!!!

“It had all been an illusion…”

When I reviewed Loving Amber, book one in this series, I said “Ruby is up next. She is the total opposite to Amber and already made her appearance felt in this book so I cannot wait to see what her story entails, I bet it won’t be boring!” And boring it wasn’t.

“Despite all the speculation and gossip, one thing was never mentioned… This strange reclusive man is breathtakingly beautiful.”

Ruby was full of life, she was artistic, vivacious, carefree and a joy to be around. Her personality was infectious and you couldn’t help but love her. Ruby was currently helping her siblings run the family business but her true heart lay with children’s books and she was currently writing and illustrating her own.

August Hyde was the recluse, a man who nobody knew anything about, yet rumours were rife. Small town, small minded people all getting into each other’s business and the grittier the gossip the better. Mr Hyde apparently killed his wife and is now under house arrest, or the other rumour was that he was a vampire…the gossip was endless. Nobody had taken time to actually meet him in person to make up their own minds. He was the anti-christ as far as they were concerned.

“I’m a shattered man, resigned to a world of darkness, and she’s such a bright, vibrant woman. Dragging her into my shadows…”

In fact, August Hyde was a New York Times bestselling Erotica Author, who was suffering from agoraphobia after the death of his wife. He was a man crippled by grief and guilt even though he shouldn’t have been. His self-imposed exile into the dark was his way of punishing himself and yet underneath was a man that was so deserving of love, something he was adamant he would never feel again. In truth, August was extremely vulnerable and it is this side of him that you take into your heart and never want to let go.

“I can’t live through another heartbreak. To let myself love is to lay out the welcome mat, push the doors wide open, and yell “Come in!” to heartbreak.”

Needing an assistant, August, rather begrudgingly advertises the position. He is not one for socialising or small talk but even he must admit he cannot keep up with the work that his success now demands. There was only one candidate that really met his criteria and that was Ruby, however, at the interview he soon realises that they cannot work together, for the first time in a long time, someone has turned his head and that was Ruby.

“You see, when you have money, it’s rather easy to be a recluse.”

Needless to say, a working relationship is born, but this was so much more than boss falls for secretary. This was a beautiful story from start to finish. The sexual chemistry between these two was ever present and you could feel the sizzle underneath the words. The constant battling of minds, the constant blow of hot and cold from August as he battles his grief and his past all make for addictive reading. This was a book of understanding, taking the time to get the know the “real” person underneath the façade, making the effort no matter how herculean. This was about a woman with a heart of gold that would not take no for an answer. A woman that was determined to help and who fell in love at the same time.

“You can’t play with me, Ruby. I’m not like the young guys – chasing skirts at bars every night of the week. This is real for me. This is the real thing for me. And I don’t know how I would take it if you broke me. I’ve been through the wringer already. You can’t just make me love you and then…”

I did feel that the ending was rushed and was a bit disappointed when it ended fairly abruptly, but the I’s had been dotted and the T’s crossed. Loving Ruby can be read as a standalone but if you intend on reading Loving Amber then I would read that one first as there are spoilers for book one in book two.

“He wants me to know him as he is, not as the illusion he portrays. He wants me to love the real him. I’m not his assistant anymore. I’m no longer just a friend. I’m his lady. I’m special to him. And he’s special to me.”

Loving Ruby is the second book in The Riverstone Estate series. If you haven’t read the first book, Loving Amber, don’t worry, each book can be read as a stand-alone. While the characters from the first book do make an appearance, Loving Ruby features a new couple.

If you enjoy workplace romances, Loving Ruby will definitely pique your interest. Roya Carmen puts her own spin on the taboo relationship between a boss and his assistant, and it has all of the sinful, delightful, intriguing elements that I have come to expect from her writing.

Ruby Riverstone is the younger sister in the Riverstone family. She is creative, free-spirited, and not really cutting it at her family’s estate. She needs a new job, one that showcases her creative abilities. When she answers an ad for a personal assistant for an author, she has a feeling that this is the opportunity that she’s been waiting for.

August Hyde is a successful author. He is also relatively new in the small community, which has made him the topic of many rumors and speculations. Being new in a small community will always make you a hot topic for curious residents, but include the fact that August is never seen outside the confines of his own property, and it’s inevitable that the rumor mill will be abuzz.

As soon as August meets with Ruby, he knows that she’s just what he needs, but along with that, he’s also apprehensive about hiring someone who he is clearly attracted to. He is only looking for an assistant, he doesn’t want to have anything other than a professional relationship with his employee. Inappropriate thoughts and feelings toward an employee wouldn’t only be unethical, but he just couldn’t allow himself to feel any attachment toward another woman.

August lives a reclusive, regimented life. He is formal, well-mannered, and a tad stuffy, but he is enigmatic and extremely intriguing. But don’t let his formalities fool you, underneath his proper, polished exterior is a man with a naughty side, a healthy sexual appetite, and a bit of a shoe fetish.

Although August and Ruby seem like polar opposites, they both seem to complement the other. Ruby breathes new life into his drab surroundings and life. Her vivacious personality is a ray of sunshine in his otherwise lonely world.

Loving Ruby captured my attention from the very beginning. I was eagerly flipping the pages to find out more about Mr. August Hyde. There was so much more to him than just being Ruby’s boss. The story stretched far beyond just the illicit relationship between a boss and employee. He was a man who wasn’t really living. He was merely existing in the closed off world that he had created for himself. He was lonely, grieving, and not giving himself permission to find happiness.

Loving Ruby is a steamy, captivating love story, and even though the characters are immediately attracted to each other, their relationship is a slow burn. Roya Carmen took her time with their romance, making the build-up and anticipation that much sweeter.

Loving Ruby is a thoroughly enjoyable read and a great addition to this series!

Title: Loving Ruby
Author: Roya Carmen

5 amazing stars

And here I thought that Loving Amber was epic, but Loving Ruby truly blows it away like yesterday's baseball game (alright so that might not make sense, but you get what I mean). Roya Carmen has this uncanny talent of taking an idea and developing it until you get fully immersed into her stories. Ruby is us - readers, graphic designers, author personal assistants and heck, too many of us Facebookers. And when an author is in the search of his own PA, Ruby jumps at the opportunity, hoping to land the job. August Hyde found the perfect assistant in Ruby, only problem is that he's attracted to her. Too much so and constantly has to remind himself of their professional relationship.

4.5 sexy dreams

One Facebook message and then a phone call later and their relationship goes from professional to -HR-situation-and-a-contract-hot. What more can I say about the entire change? This couple had me forgetting about Amber and Aiden a little too quickly, but who am I to complain? I wasn't and totally wanted more and more and more. Did I mention just how hot these two are together? Every moment was worth it and now with that ending, I wonder just how long I'll have to wait for the next installment because seriously... wow!

This was another really great book for Roya Carmen in the Riverstone Estate series. I loved Ruby as a character in Loving Amber, so was really excited to read her book. Having said that, this could be read as a complete standalone.

Ruby needs a job. She's been at a bit of a dead end in her life, with which direction she wants to go, workwise and generally. She has dreams of writing and illustrating a children's book, but not had the enthusiasm or encouragement from anyone else to do it seriously. She's been helping her sister our around the Riverstone Estate, but wants something more for herself.

When she see's a job advertised for to become a PA for a bestselling author, she thinks it sounds perfect for her. August Hyde is a brilliant author, but he realises he needs more help while he writes, hence the need for a PA. Unfortunately following a huge tragedy a number of years ago, August's life has become rather reclusive, with him not leaving the house. There are plenty of rumours kicking around the town that Ruby lives in as to why Mr Hyde shuts himself away in his big old house all on his own.

When Ruby goes for her interview there is an instant connection between the 2 characters, but can August have Ruby working for him? His past does not allow him to have feelings for anyone else. He has so many fears, and no time for distractions from the gorgeous, quirky Ruby. August Hyde is gorgeous too, and Ruby realises her own attraction towards him could cause an issue in the office. But they can keep things strictly professional can't they? She needs this job...

I loved both Ruby and August's characters in this story. August is in a constant state of hot and cold with Ruby, and I like how this was written. One minute you just feel Ruby is getting somewhere and the next he pushes her away with such force you wonder what will happen next.

I loved how this story and relationship was a real slow burn, but you could feel the chemistry between the two characters from the pages throughout the whole book.

I love Roya's writing style, the story flowed effortlessly and I was totally absorbed from beginning to end wanting to find out if Ruby could break down August's walls, if he would allow her, and how.

With some great moments that will leave your heart racing (although I felt I wanted a little more towards the end - maybe an extra twist or 2!!), this book is full of fun, emotion and plenty of heat. It will warm your heart and leave you smiling...

A must read book from this brilliant author and a great series. Roll on book 3!

Loving Ruby is book two of the Riverstone series. I haven't read book one, Loving Amber, but that didn't hinder my reading at all. In fact, this book could be read as a standalone.

Ruby Riverstone is a 26 year old woman who considers herself the black sheep of the family. Her sister 'fires' her from working at their inherited family estate and is then left without a purpose... until she lands a job across the street for the mysterious Mr. Hyde, as an assistant.

Mr. Hyde is an erotica author who has secluded himself from the outside world. He is punishing himself for the death of his wife (circumstances that I will let you find out for yourself) and hasn't stepped out of his mansion for two years. As the work piles up, he decides he is in desperate need of help, and hires Ruby.

What happens between the two is hot...to say the least. I am a sucker for boss/employee romance and Roya Carmen does a great job with this one. It isn't your normal billionaire romance where the characters are in the tallest building in the city and have at it behind frosted glass. No. That wouldn't do for Mr. Hyde. The setting fits Mr. Hyd's past and Ruby's personality and when they connect it's nothing but fireworks.

I was a little dissapointed in how Ruby handled a few situations in the book. She is all for helping August out of his extreme anxiety, but instead pushes him too hard. I feel like there could have been an extra two hundred pages that showed August's transformation. He wasn't suddenly cured, no, but it felt rushed and it was almost like he was suddenly cured. Ruby really is a minx using sex to get him out of the house ;)

Overall, this was such a nice read. I loved the story and just how sweet August was. I wish there was more!

**Blogger Note: I received an advanced copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.**

This is the third book I have read thus far this year and it is by far my favorite. I freaking loved Loving Ruby. I loved her free spirit. She is the perfect balance for the dark, secretive, lonesome August Hyde.

This book will take you by surprise because it is nothing like the first book in the series, Loving Amber. It is a lot deeper and sad than first impression. Hyde seems like a jerk at first, you want to yell at him but when he opens up to Ruby, the first women he has remotely been interested in in more than two years, it is hard not to fall for him. You find out about all his rumors and what really happened to him.

Ruby draws him out, gets him to open his eyes to the world and what he is missing out on. This series gets better with each book as I admit right now I enjoyed Ruby better than Amber. My only issue is that I feel the ending was a bit rushed but it really didn't change how I feel about the story, it doesn't change the storyline at all. I love August Hyde and I have to admit that a part of him reminds me of Matt Sky from the Night Owl Series by M. Pierce, which is one of my favorite series of all time!

Roya Carmen is an amazing writer and storyteller. She knows how to grab her readers, drag them in by their heartstrings. Each one of her books and series are amazing. She just gets better and better in my opinion. I will read anything by this author.

One Recommendation: Even though it says that this book can be read as a standalone, I would not, read this series in order. If you read Loving Ruby before Loving Amber, it can and will spoil Loving Amber for you!

Loving Ruby is the second book in Roya Carmen's Riverstine series. It features Ruby, Amber's younger sister, introduced in book one. It can be read as a standalone, but I suggest reading in order for the full experience.
Ruby needs a job. When she sees an ad for an assistant to a famous writer, it seems perfect for her. She applies, but figures she has little to no chance landing the position. She's definitely intrigued by him and all of the rumors surrounding him which range from him being a wife killer to a vampire. She is shocked to be selected and even more shocked to find out just how gorgeous the mysterious and reclusive August Hyde is in person.
August has money, looks and writing fame, but has been hiding from the world for the last two years following a tragedy. With his increasing popularity, he knows he needs help with promotion and social media so he reluctantly hires an assistant. When Ruby shows up he is almost knocked over by his desire for her, a desire he is determined to ignore.
Ruby and August begin a complicated and frustrating battle of Hot and Cold. He is both drawn to her and desperate to keep her at arm's length. Despite his efforts, Ruby pushes back, trying to break through his defenses and soften his scarred and hard heart.
I very much enjoyed Ruby and August's romance. I loved Ruby's feisty personality. She was so perfect for August, who can't seem to find his way back after being shattered by tragedy. Watching Ruby slowly break through his defenses kept me transfixed. I enjoyed this even more than book one! Another well written story by the talented Carmen.

I love the name August Hyde. "Author's note: contains sexual scenes and some coarse language." ... I get such thoughts or pictures from the author meanings, you can see just from that note there. I love authors who can draw up pictures or images in your mind from something so simple. I have found another great author to read, Roya Carmen is a lovely, well written author, such a fan!! Loved this read and found that was not confused, it is a standalone indeed, I am always concerned when that is worded that way and then you read the book and feel it is not true and so much of the book was in the 1st book of the series and it was just reworded once again. not the case in the series, very different. Thank You, Roya for that. Must read. Love the series so so much!! ( ;

Interesting but it didnt take awhile. I got a bit bored.
I didnt get that attached to the characters.
The story was OK wasn't exciting though
I wanted more drama or conflicts etc.
the only problem was the heros agoraphobia.

Not much intrigue or angst. Just a run of the mill somewhat cookie cutter plot. 3*hum drum*stars

Really disappointing. I admittedly did not read book 1, but since it was a standalone I thought it was okay. This book was okay until the last 85-90% and then I think the author ran out of steam.

Ruby takes a job with a writer who is a recluse on a neighboring estate. Said writer writes dark erotic romance. There's an instant attraction, but he's got a zillion issues. Ruby's work for him, however, is stellar and he can't imagine working without her and his bird likes her, so there's that.

The super rushed ending just threw cold water over the super steamy parts for me.
