The story of an international adoption and life with disabilities told from the perspective of the adopted child. Ten year old Mariah explains her life at the orphanage before her parents came, and describes life since she came home. Mariah has Cerebral Palsy and Dyslexia that she hopes to raise awareness of with this book. This is the perfect book to help children and adults understand adoption and special needs from a child's point of view.
I bought this book off of a different site and love it. My son is adopted and does not talk much about his past. When I bought this book I was doing it to support the young author and have another diverse adoption tale in our library. Mariah shares her journey and her story with her heart on her sleeve. Written from the perspective of the adoptee you will follow her story as she goes through much heartbreak and triumphs over obstacles in her path. After we read the story my son was able to open up for the first time in years about his adoption and how he felt. This book has a special place on our shelf and in my heart. A great read and I hope Mariah plans on writing more.
