He remembers everything... except the first thirty years of his life.

Sports star-turned-coach Lucas Delaunay has no recollection of his past, despite his parents' and friends' efforts to help him.

Enter Isabelle Ferrand, a young publicist hired to land sponsors and fundraise for Lucas's club. He is told she was a friend. Just a friend. Everyone, Isabelle included, insists he regarded her as a sister.

Not anymore, he doesn't.

Every night, he dreams of her naked and panting beneath him. Her taste, her smell, the way her breasts fill his palms... Every morning he wakes up rock hard, groping for her in his empty bed.

With desire spinning out of control, Lucas wonders if amnesia has changed his taste in women, or if there's something Isabelle isn't telling him.

And if she might be the key to unlocking his past.

Spoiler for whoever's interested in reading. Okay? Okay.

Okay so you slept with your best friend who you're in love with forever.

You wake up the next day and all of a sudden he told you he had a girlfriend who he intended on proposing soon. Said the only reason he slept with you is because his girlfriend wouldn't do kinky stuff. Said it was just a pity f**k and he didn't date plain woman. Then he preceded to show you pictures of his model girlfriend. How.... charming. Right?

The next thing you know something happened, he lost his memories.... and then he suddenly decided he liked you. And you being the loser that you were, played right into it because of course. You just couldn't resist!!!!

So you see. You get why I'm not so hot about this book right? Good.

There is no way that this story was 359 pages as stated here on GRs. Amazon lists 160 pages but I am thinking that is the sum total of which only 73% was this story. It was a quick read for me.

Having read this author's Darcy Brothers tales and seeing that this was available on Kindle Unlimited and, furthermore, that the premise was based on a long term amnesia victim’s story I decided to take a detour from my usual JAFF reading.

There is not any angst and the climax is rather predictable but it was an enjoyable morning's read. The man is a total dork in his one night stand (out of pity) with Isabella (Izz) so when he finds himself magnetically drawn to and panting after her 6 years later with all his memories gone one can only want him to suffer a little...no, a lot. She fears it will all be the same story if she gives in to the draw she continues to feel for him so, on the other hand, one is applauding her efforts to withstand all his overtures. But the one other thing this reader was hoping was that the man who left Lucas for dead would be identified and punished.

This story is set in Paris, is centered around the sport of water polo and Lucas does, like many head injury victims, have a change in personality after his accident and long term amnesia. The tale ends at 73% when we get promotions for other books and a preview of one of the author's other stories.

There something she’s not telling him. Sweet, sexy and witty.

Another sexy witty and quick read from Alix’s team of gorgeous male water-polo players. Built, buff and wearing only the tiniest of kit. And there’s loads of chemistry between our two characters.

I read the prologue ...and already... my heart broke for Isabelle. Our hero, Lucas didn’t looking like any sort of decent guy, and the way he treated his long time friend Izz, was appalling.

Six years later, we now know Lucas to be the coach and force behind the men’s national water-polo team. At thirty six, he can’t remember the first thirty years of his life. He’s also a different man. Six years ago, he was attacked and suffered an almost fatal head injury that saw him in a coma for three months, taking years to recover his physical abilities and strength. The only thing he doesn’t have back, is his memory. Apparently, he and Isabelle used to be friends. Then they weren’t. Then he was attacked.

Isabelle Ferrand, friends with Eric, assistant coach, used to play water polo for the same clube as Lucas, in the semi-pros. She quit and went back to school, becoming a successful and sought after Publicist. The French Water-Polo Federation want Lucas to get the team to the European Competitions. To do that, they need money, sponsorships, PR, and they want her to do it.

Lucas can’t understand Isabelle’s apparent refusal to join his team, or believe that they used to be friends, only friends. He’s attracted to her in every way, and believes that there is something she’s not telling him.

Alix writes each book as a stand-a-lone, but with interconnecting characters we’ve already met, and it is great to meet them again. Her books keep me completely engaged, and the pace doesn’t slow. It makes for a quick read, and I was a little disappointed that all of a sudden I reached the end. I still absolutely enjoyed Lucas and Isabelle’s story, I just felt there wasn’t the usual depth to it that Alix normally puts into her books. If you enjoy a reasonably light read with only a little angst, lots of chemistry, witty humour and characters with drive, you definitely will enjoy her books. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.

November 3 was all sort of stressful so I decided to check this little random novella out from Kindle Unlimited. The premise of an amnesia romance appealed (I could use some amnesia for 2020 tbh).

This worked for for it was but the pacing was a little abrupt. A little too much time spent on the water polo aspect - which was fun but didn't fit into the amnesia plotline. I was thinking there would be a lot more sexy-times - but this was surprisingly sports focused.

Plus the ending was a bit of a let down with the HEA coming in the epilogue so I wasn't to convinced or invested in the romance.

Overall, I didn't mind this given that I was looking for a distraction but I didn't really like it particularly either.

The opening to this story did not endear Lucas to me. He was a jackass of the first order. Even though I ended up liking the rest of the story, I couldn't figure out how Isabelle was even friends with someone so callus or how the hell she fell in love with the person he was before his "accident".

I left the story thinking him having amnesia and not recalling for himself how he treated her was too easy. I would have rated this higher if he would have remembered and had to deal with his previous behavior and then had to fight to keep the woman he loved in his life.

Oh well...

Book made me cry, laugh & sad. Lucas & Isabelle's story will pull at your heart! Let it be known that just as he cannot remember his past, he damn sure plans on remembering his future & he plans that to be with Isabelle. I voluntarily read this ARC and this is my honest review

Isabelle doesn't seem to be lucky in love, the man she pinned over for three years Lucus was not the man she thought he was. More interested in status and looks- he took pity on her literally.
Her relationships didn't get much better after that.
Lucus, suffered severe brain damage after getting beat to deal outside a club, ending his Water Polo career, after waking from a coma and long time with rehabilitation six years later he was good but suffered from amnesia.
He couldn't remember most things that led up to the incident, including the horrible things he had said and done to Isabelle. Now He is the coach for the men's National Water Polo Team- Isabelle's ex Water Polo coach and friend Eric are trying to convince her to take the position as Publicist offered by Lucus. No one knows about what happened that day; she would like to keep it that way.
Of course, this job more money and she is over Lucus right?
This book is a fast read with lots of emotion and frustration; schooling me on the power of forgiveness**, mixed in with some steam and hug it out moments. I have to say I was a bit surprised by this book, but I did it enjoy it.
** I kept thinking the whole time, yeah I don't know, head injuries or not... I would not have been so nice. **

This book continues Nichols’ series about French water polo players. The set up for this book was so very interesting. Lucas is a star player who was a jerk in the way he treated his friend Izzy who has long had a crush on him. He slept with her one night and then told her that he’s going to marry the supermodel he’s been dating. He explicitly tells her that she’s too plain for a guy like him. What a selfish jerk. Flash forward six years and we learn that Lucas had experienced some sort of accident that put him in a coma and left him with total amnesia. He had to relearn all his motor skills while recovering. Now he’s coach for the Paris water polo team, but still can’t remember his past, just what people can tell him about his past life. He knows that he was good friends with Izzy and senses that there was more between them, but doesn’t know what.

Izzy is hired to work on the marketing and development for the water polo team. She’s hesitant about working with Lucas but hopes she can keep her heart intact. Lucas seems like a much nicer guy than he was before his injury.

I thought this was an intriguing set-up for a romance. I had questions about how Lucas coped without having any true memories of who he was before. Which Lucas is the real Lucas - the jerk from before or the new guy who is a decent guy? Will he recover some of his memories? What happened to get him so badly injured? And how will this rising water polo team do in the European championships? How are the guys from the earlier books doing now?

I was just disappointed with how all these issues were resolved so easily and quickly. The book is basically a novella and it seemed to be all set-up and then quick resolution. Nichols has written some really interesting books taking place in France with a real sense of locale and different sorts of romantic leads. I would have liked more of this one. I guess I was hoping for a full-blown novel, rather than such a short, quick read. There was more with this plotline and characters that a talented writer like Nichols could have written instead of having it all wrapped up so quickly and easily.

I received a free advance copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book of the Game Series and which is spin-off of the Darcy Brothers Series. Lucas is the coach of the Water Polo Club and we've read about him in the previous book. We finally get his backstory!
Lucas previously was a Water Polo star but after a head injury that resulted in Amnesia he eventually took on the job as coach. He hires Isabelle Ferrand, a former friend, as his publicist. He knows they had a falling out but can't remember the circumstances. As they spend more time together, he can't help thinking they may have had more than friendly relations in their past. He can't help the dreams at night about her and visioning her with him. Is this just out of lust or did something happen between them in the past?!
Isabelle is leery of Lucas since she's started working as his publicist. After years of being in love with him, they had one amazing night over six years ago. Only to have it ruined afterward when Lucas confided that he had a girlfriend that he plannned to propose to and that she was merely a pity screw.
Lucas seems so different now and she can't help falling for him again. He doesn't seem to be the same arrogant, egotistical & selfish man that he was before his amnesia. But as he starts remembering bits and pieces of his past will he resort to the man he was before? Can she bear to risk her heart again?
I loved Lucas and Isabelle's story. A great beach read!! Short and sweet!! I can wait to read more in the Game series!! I received an early copy and voluntarily left my honest review.

Lucas Delaunay is the coach of the French water polo team. Six years ago Lucas was attacked and left for dead. Luckily someone found him and they rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately he has amnesia and had to learn many of his motor skills all over again. Lucas, his assistant coach, and the woman's head coach is trying to get Isabelle to be the publicist for the teams. Lucas knows he was friends with Isabelle before, but doesn't remember her. He was a real jerk to her before his accident and they had a big fight. Isabelle was in love with him and she found out he was dating some beautiful model. So Isabelle is Leary about working for him know. You will need to read the book to see what happens.

Reading the previous books I had always like Lucas, but once I found out what he was like before the accident, I didn't think much of him. I am so glad he has changed for the better. Isabelle was such a nice and loyal person. She visited Lucas while he was in a coma where his old girlfriend only came by once. I really liked this book and encourage you to read it. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.

Genre: Romance - Sports, Amnesia, Suspense
Stand-Alone: Yes
Part of a Series: Yes - Book 2 of the Game Time Series. Each book features a different couple with some characters appearing in each
POV: Alternating Isabelle and Lucas
Steam-Level: Warm to toasty
3.5/5

Playing for Keeps is a quick read. I got through it in only a few hours. I did enjoy it but I would have liked it to be a bit longer or maybe have a second epilogue with Lucas's POV. The story itself did flow well and if longer may have felt stretched. I enjoyed getting to know Lucas who we met briefly in book 1 (Zach's story). I liked Isabelle and Alix Nichols portrays her realistically as being a bit gun shy with Lucas. Lucas was funny, smart and a bit conniving in his quest to figure out his past with Isabelle which is forgivable considering he doesn't remember. Overall I enjoyed Playing for Keeps and it was fun read - just not my favorite of Alix Nichol's books. I look forward to seeing what happens next in this series or what else is to come. Keep up the good work.

I received an advanced copy of this book for free from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

A second chance romance, only he doesn't know it! Lucas is battling to deal with his past life after suffering a debilitating attack that leaves him with amnesia. He knows that both Isabelle and Angela hold keys to his past, but neither of them are talking. Despite what he has been told, Angela no longer holds Lucas' attention, but Isabelle fascinates him and draws him in. However, Isabelle is avoiding him and he realises that he has done something to wound her, but with amnesia blocking his recall, he cannot make amends. Bit by bit the truth starts to emerge making Lucas angry both with the perpetrator of the crime against him, and at himself for his deplorable actions towards Isabelle. I loved the pull of attraction between Lucas and Isabelle and the way in which Lucas refused to give up on the possibility of a relationship with her. This is a well written romance that tugs at the heart strings. Although a number of characters from other books in the series also appear in this story, it is nevertheless a standalone and comes to a joyful ending. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my voluntary and honest review.

I am an unabashed fan of author Alix Nichols' Paris-based books. Her wry writing style infuses humor into all but the most serious situations which are handled with appropriate respect and delicacy. We are dealing, after all, with an arrogant boor who treats a friend rather badly and then just shrugs it off. You might say he needed a smack upside the head to set him straight (and I just did) but Ms Nichols refrains since the bad boy subsequently suffers a severe traumatic head injury and, while not dwelled upon, undergoes an arduous and extended recovery period, all of which is very well handled within the story. And now the stage is set for Act II.

There is some ***HEAT*** but it just slides right into the tale (you see what I did there) and is neither disruptive nor clinical but nicely toned. Also, you can learn a bit about water polo. But mostly you can sit back and enjoy this standalone novella from the shared universe of the "Bistro" stories, knowing that love will triumph, because--Paris! Oh, and of course it is an HEA (Happily Ever After)!

In the prologue Lucas is a complete jerk...amnesia changed him so very much and I loved the changes in him. Isabelle I understand why she is skeptical of him because of how he treated her in the past, I also get why she had trouble telling him the details of their past encounter. But through everything there was that spark between them. Neither could help how they felt. I love the push and pull of them, and seeing them try to be friends when their hearts had trouble with just that.

Alix has this way of writing that just draws you in. This book is no exception. We meet Lucas in the first book of this series, and I was so curious about him, knowing he had amnesia, and of course this book didn't disappoint as I loved finding out about him and all he had to overcome, etc. This is such an overall light-hearted and fun book.

This is Lucas and Isabelle's story and tells of the uncertainties and blanks in Lucas' memories due to amnesia caused by a blow to the head.
Have the two of them really only always just been 'friends'? This is what he is trying desperately to find out because he just can't remember anything from before and now finds that he has such a strong attraction to her.
Family and friends try to fill in the blanks for him but this second-hand knowledge doesn't satisfy him and he tries to jog his memories by asking questions of everyone.
This story has heart, it has feeling, it has emotions and it has love in abundance and is well written and very easy to read and follow.
I am very happy to recommend it.
I received a free advance copy from the author and this is my honest and unbiased review.

Another great addition to the Alix Nichols collection. This is a stand alone book but is also somewhat of a spin off in that we were introduced to this character in "The Perfect Catch" (Noah's book) and then again in "Playing with Fire" (Zach's book). I've really come to love this writer's style and how she develops her characters. Each story is unique but continues to build on previous plot lines without feeling forced. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, but I would gladly recommend this book, really all her books to anyone who is a fan of contemporary romance.
Happy Reading...enjoy!

Oh my… Lucas is not the man I thought he was. Turns out that before he nearly died, he was an ‘A’ number one, prime jerk. Reading his behavior in the prologue made me cringe and second-guess reading this book. I understand that the human body and mind have lots of self-defence mechanism built in, so it isn’t far-fetched, to me, to see such a personality change after an event as traumatic as what Lucas survived. And I can easily see why Isabelle behaves the way she does. Love makes us behave in ways that defy logic; that other people just don’t comprehend. This was a subtly different kind of second-chance romance. I enjoyed watching it play out.
I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Another hit by Alix Nichols. This book is a clear case of what if and second chance. An attack causes a head injury and amnesia. Can the hurt you caused before that fateful day be forgiven when you didn't even know what it was, and when memories resurface can you still be the better man you've become? Although this book is the second in the series you don't need to read the first. The characters are mentioned but not a major part of the story line. Both Game Time novels are full of ups and downs and keep you wanting to read them in one sitting.

I usually love this author's books and this one is no exception. This series is based on members of a water pool team. The story was interesting, the male characters hot, and the female characters sweet. The lead male in this book, Lucus, has amnesia and can't remember the type of person he was before his injury. There is one personal relationship, in particular, he wishes he could remember, the one with Isabelle. I really enjoyed the resolution to their story. I think the water polo team is a great idea to build a story around. I hope this series continues.

Quick read! What a jerk Lucas is before amnesia. Not sure how the brain works to turn a jerk into a standup guy, but Izzy loved him and he hurt so badly. After years of not regaining his memory, he has dreams of Izzy and being with her sexually, but can't tell if it is a memory or dream of what he desperately wants. Worked out well, but poor Izzy would still be pinning away for this guy if he didn't finally pursue her.

More like a glimpse. So much happens that we are just told about. It’s almost like you met up with a friend you haven’t seen in a while and they tell you about the years you missed. Back and forth, dual POV. Kind of cold. We miss her falling in love with an - admitted - pos. And then we also miss why he fell in love with her. Book ended abruptly at 73%. So was even shorter than I’d expected. Gratuitous epilogue.

Alix Nichols is my go-to author whenever I want a light, fun read with little to no drama. Playing for Keeps was fun to read and indeed light, but it was lacking. It feels like there's a chunk that's been taken out of the story. I was really enjoying reading the book until I realized it was already the end. This is the first time I'm gonna give a rather low rating on one of Alix Nichols' books.

Loved this story! I loved Izzy and Lucas......although I didn't like pre-coma Lucas and how he treated Izzy! A sweet romance with sizzle and steam, some action and suspense, and answers for Lucas made this a great read. The characters in the Game Time series are such heartwarming and relatable characters that you just get so caught up in their stories. A truly enjoyable read and fantastic series.

"I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book"

An enjoyable read that fills in some gaps if you have read the D'Arcy Brothers series and Playing With Fire. It delves into the lives and loves of a Water Polo team and has many cross-over characters. If you like Alix Nichols books and athletes then this series is for you.

This book was so short. Like, it took me maybe half an hour to read it.

It was not very interesting and pretty sad to read, if I'm going to be honest. The concept could have been played out very well, but it just wasn't.

To me, it seemed as if the author just got bored of writing and stopped halfway through.

Don't recommend.

Better than book 1 by far - perhaps it was the characters I connected with more - I really liked Lucas getting to find himself throughout the book with his amnesia and the memories, etc. and Izz well, she had her moments where she was a bit annoying but by the end I liked her a lot - characters can grow on ya. Overall was an alright read !

Wow! When there is a connection there is a connection! Even amnesia and denial can't hide it. I love the way Lucas broke down Isabelle's walls and continued to search for the connection he felt was true. A story full of passion, mystery, suspense, love, and dreams. Loved it!
