A little red car beeps good night to all of his four-wheeled friends in this fresh take on the classic song, “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”
Twinkle, twinkle, little car, how you love to travel far. Now it’s time to go to bed. But you want to drive instead.
It’s time for Little Car to go to sleep, but he isn’t tired yet! So he cruises around town saying goodnight to all of his friends, from the tractors in their shed to the buses and taxis in town to the cranes and diggers at the construction site. Finally exhausted, Little Car putt-putts home where at last his beep-beep dreams begin.
I wanted to read it to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" but after awhile it seemed to get a bit repetitive. Personally, I'd have thrown that car into his garage and turned the lights out until he fell asleep. I don't deal with that nonsense!
Age: 1-2 years Things that go: cars, tractors, airplanes, variety
A little red car says goodnight across town to all the other things that go. It was precious to see the car's eyes start to droop towards the end, but the overall illustrations of the car had slightly off putting angles. Otherwise, Dopirak aligns her text perfectly with the beat of the song.
Taking an original twist on the well-known song, this book follows an energetic car who isn't quite ready for bed.
It's time for bed, but Little Car isn't ready to call it a night. He zooms through town, visiting everything from planes to tractors to firetrucks as he burns off energy so he can slow down to a good night's sleep.
Young car fans will enjoy this book. Little Car is cute and just right for the younger crowd as he brums off onto the road. His encounters with trucks, tractors, airplanes and more are just the kind of thing little motor vehicle fans love to see. By placing the rhyme into a well-known children's song, the entire book gains a very familiar feel children will find reassuring and fun. However, singing it might grow a bit redundant.
The illustrations are bright and simple, great for the younger listeners to peer at and enjoy. The text is also very fitting, and the rhythm flows nicely the entire way through. Some of the ideas in the rhymes came across a bit long-grabbed, but this isn't something younger listeners will notice.
Summed up, this is a wonderful read for all those who dream of cars and other vehicles, but I would recommend it for a slightly younger audience, ages 2 to 4.
I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed it enough to want to leave my honest thoughts.
People aren't the only ones who can't or don't want to get to sleep at night. This is a super book sung to the Twinkle, twinkle little star tune. There is huge appeal to young listeners who love everything trucks/boats/cars.
Simple illustrations with muted colors will be fun to young ones.
What a delightful romp of a bedtime book! Fun to sing along to, great for storytimes, and reminiscent of Jon Klassen & Mac Barnett's works. Finally a car book I can affectionately handsell!
Cute spin on Twinkle Twinkle Little Star that will delight readers who love all things cars!
Adorable bedtime sigh moment when that little red car tucks into the garage for the night -- love the phrase "let your beep-beep dreams begin". I wonder how many parents will make that their goodnight sign off?
This is a sweet lullaby for the vehicle enthusiast in your life. A little car, not ready for bedtime, sets out for an evening drive through town. On the way, the car meets all sorts of mobile friends: tractors, planes, buses, and emergency vehicles. Most pages have a yellow road curving through which little ones will want to trace with their fingers (or matchbox cars!). The illustrations have a comfortingly blued-out nighttime hue, easing the reader into relaxation. The text is set to the tune of twinkle, twinkle little star, and ends on a mellow note suitable for lights out.
Recommended to librarians planning a car or machinery story time, parents looking for bedtime books.
Cute, rhyming, somewhat set to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
It suffers a little bit from going on a bit too long, something that parents will notice and kids will not. Illustrations are soothing for bedtime and it probably is a good 'settle down' type of story. Not much is actually happening, you follow a car through a lot of sleepy scenes.
Good for that vehicle obsessed child but low key enough for bedtime.
Any book that you can sing along to is a hit for me. This was a really cute concept and will help your little one get to bed. Transportation, travel, and a sleepy car that also has a hard time saying goodnight.
For: antsy young readers who want a book to lull them to sleep; fans of cars/transportation books.
Possible red flags: Some caregivers may feel as though this promotes not going to bed right away/in a timely manner.
Absolutely charming block-print art, serviceable writing--overall a sweet and enjoyable experience. Our fav parts of the book is that the little car doesn't want to go to sleep yet, the AWESOME map of all the places he will be traveling to, and the ferry ride at the end.
My 4.5 year old who loves vehicles said, "It's like a lullaby book...now I am sleepy too!" While the book is probably intended for 1-3 years, we all really liked it.
This is a great bedtime story for children! It has a good rhythm to it as well to help the story flow smoothly. Its a good way to relate a four wheeled car to the way children go to sleep and prepare for bedtime. This story has some length so it gives children enough time to get sleepy and fall asleep.
Sing this entire book! A very fun storytime book with lovely pictures. My only issue: I kept getting lost in the tune and forgetting which line of melody I was singing. But it doesn't really matter too much. Everyone seemed to like it. Next time I'm projecting it and making everyone sing with me!
What a cute take on Twinkle--this is a picture book you can sing with the littles you are reading it with! The illustrations are adorably stylized with very anthropomorphized vehicles "peopling" the pages. You will enjoy this almost as much as the children listening to it!
Starts out like you could sing the book to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle, but that doesn't last long.
The little red car isn't sleepy, so he travels around town saying good night to his friends, most of whom are already tucked away. The little car finally feels sleepy and heads to bed.
Cute. You can sing right along with the book. It's a book that many ages will enjoy.
Read Aloud- Family Storytime, B2B-Dancing Storytime, and 2s and 3s Toddler Storytime. Teachers could use this as a writing idea, take a song and write your version.
Little Car has zoomed and vroomed around all day. Now it’s time to go to bed, but Little Car isn’t sleepy. To the tune of the Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star song, this little car cruises around to say goodnight. Beep, beep.
March 2018 - a cute and simple vehicle book, a bit young for Ben but he still enjoyed it - probably best appreciated by toddlers. Can be sung to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
