Calum Keith is the leader of Dragon’s Blood Motorcycle Club (M.C.) and the Chieftain of Clan Keith, a Clan of Scottish Dragons who accepted a quest from their King to come to America and find their fate-chosen mates. A seer told them that where they encountered one mate, many others would also be found. The Clan has ridden the back roads of America for nearly 100 years looking for the answer to their quest. In a small café in the High Plains Wyoming town of Laramie, Calum Keith runs headlong into a young man named Chance Bashford. This is Calum’s destiny, and Chance might just be the love of his life. Before that, they must overcome the harsh upbringing and lack of care that Chance has endured during his short twenty-one years on this earth. If Calum plays his cards right, he just might win the heart of his beloved. However, like any quest, danger lurks around every corner. A rogue wolf pack has made Laramie their home base, and they have their sights set on Calum’s love. Calum and his gang of Dragon’s must face this threat head on if they want a chance at putting down some roots and seeing what the winds of the high plains have in store for their Dragon Clan.
B.A. Stretke is a Gay Romance and fiction author who publishes through Dreamspinner Press, LLC, and Amazon.com
B.A Stretke began writing as a hobby. He read his first Jane Austen novel as a teen and was instantly hooked. The age-old dream of being a novelist took hold. Now long into adulthood, and a few years as an editor under his belt, B.A. is a full-time writer. B.A. spends his days reading, engaging in sarcasm, and plotting the next storyline, often leaving little headspace for much else. He loves hiking through the Northern Michigan woods he calls home, often finding inspiration for his books. Writing and finding that perfect cup of coffee occupy the rest of his time.
B.A. Stretke lives in Northern Michigan with one royally spoiled cat and his dear friends and family.
He closed and than locked the door, he wasn't sure why, it just felt safer.
He took care of the stylist's stations, the nail techs desks, and the entire spa.
This is just in the first chapter.
The dialogue is artificial; there's no showing, only telling; character/world building/relationship development = ZERO.
This author needs to sit the fuck down and take an English 101 course, followed by Writing Fiction for Dummies, then maybe, just maybe, he can try again.
Totally cheesy, totally unbelievable, totally rushed, totally insta-love, totally needed writing improvement. BUT, it was how I like my mate stories. And who doesn't like a hot motorcycle riding dragon?
I liked the premise of the story and I liked the characters. The book needs some major editing, there are missing words, misspelled words and the repetition was so anoying. You don’t have to be told the same thing a dozen times. Also it could stand to be longer as things are glossed over. There needs to be more world building. I would have liked to have been part of the discussion with Chance when Calum explains who they are, the mating etc. Also, it ended too soon. I needed to see them settled into their mating, and with how short the next book is, I doubt it as it’s Dane’s book and it will be focused on him. Even though I would like to take their journey to finding their mates with them, I don’t know if I will be continuing on.
While it has consistent errors, very little world building, and the characters aren't fleshed out well at all...I flipped through it quickly, and enjoyed it enough that I'll pick up the next book, which I'm assuming will feature Dane.
Rating 2.5 Stretke has gotten better as a writer but still seems like a beginner sometimes. The story is pure fantasy. As an example the club/clan is able to rent a large house overnight and move in the next day, decorating and furnishing the house (including a "custom" bed) using professional decorators in less than 12 hours. It's one of those books that's like comfort food where everything is soothing and perfect--and you have to ignore plot holes and wildly unrealistic things (like being unfazed by seeing people roasted to death). The love is powerful and Calum is the total epitome of an alpha, swooping in to save his delicate omega from poverty and abuse. It's a great rescue fantasy story and makes a good start to what promises to be a light Cinderella type series (the set up for the next story looks to be similar). I think many will enjoy the book as a true escape. There is an mpreg setup but, since only the mating is included, that seems to be a plot point for the next in the series. I'm glad to see that the editing has improved with the book (I always wondered how Stretke could be a editor with the abysmal quality of his editing and simplistic writing). This is a good one for Kindle Unlimited.
This is a start of another beautiful friendship. This series I hope will be like Crimson Coven. Dragons are one over my favorite paranormals besides wolves and vampires. This is the first of the series, and a good foundation has been built. I hope she continues.
If you've read Crimson then the writing well be along those same lines. A nice light read. Recommend for B.A. fans!
I need more of the story, hoping the other books provides it, Its a beautiful story...Love at first and and TRUST.... I;m thinking the whole series makes up the storyline... I;MON TO BOOK 2...i;M BOOKED THIS WEEKEND. :)
short easy read, super fast paced. good start to the series. well written & well edited. mm pnr both topics i like to read though mpreg is mentioned and that is one topic that i have never found an interesting read so whether i continue with the series or not is questionable at this point.
Meh been eye balling this series for awhile but never sealed the deal because the first few were poorly rated. Unfortunately I really want to read the last few so here I am with book one.
I liked the story. It was a quick, simple read that was interesting enough to make me power through some truly horrific grammar, punctuation, and spelling issues. This is my second Stretke book and I only gave it a chance because I enjoyed the quick novella series I read before. I tend to be a bit more accommodating when it comes to novellas for some reason so I didn't expect the same shamefully basic editing issues to show up in this book but they certainly did. Random punctuation issues freckled the entire book making reading it a little irritating. Simple mistakes like they're/their were also peppered throughout. The conversation between characters was stilted and sounded awkward at times. The author bio says that he spent time as an editor and frankly, I weep for the world of literature if that is true. Clearly it isn't though because some of these mistakes are so clear it is painful. Suspension of disbelief is so important In fantasy stories of any kind, so I am used to taking a lot with a grain of salt. Still I found I had to suspend A LOT of disbelief for some really mundane things. Renting and furnishing a 12 bedroom house within a 12 hour time period was one of those that almost made me throw my kindle. Dragon motorcycle club? Yeah, I can buy that no problem. A rental agreement of that magnitude? No. Just no.
In spite of all of these things I actually enjoyed the story and may even continue through the series. I just pray to the universe that the quality is better.
Every book that I read by B.A. Stretke just gets better and better.
This is the start of a new series and I fell in love with this group of men very quickly on in the read. Especially Chance.
Chance seems to be this sweet guy who just seems to have nothing but bad luck. But that luck "seems" to change when he meets his mate Calum.
At first Chance is terrified of him because he is big and strong but after talking to him for only a second, Chance is more drawn to him then scared of him.
Claim knows he is lucky to finally have found his Fated mate. After searching for one hundred years and to finally have found him, it is a blessing not only to him but everyone in their inner circle. That means there is hope for all of them.
What neither man realizes is there is immediate danger in Chances path and if Calum is not quick enough he may end up being to late.
This was a great first story in this new series and I cannot wait till th next book comes out. I have a feeling that Dane may not be as accepting and eager as Chance is but I could be wrong. Each book I read by this author gets better and better and I cannot wait till I read the next book by them.
Was given this galley copy for free for an open and honest review
I rather enjoy B.A. Stretke. While the writing it on the more simpler style, it still achieves its goal and portrays what it wanted. While part of me wishes the stories where a bit more detailed (especially the hurt/comfort) I still enjoyed the journey of Calum and Chance. There were a few things that kinda confused me. BEFORE the two were even bonded, Chance mentioned that he could taste the fear of these guys after him. I thought maybe it was a typo and Calum was meant to be written in. Maybe he meant he could SEE the fear on the guys faces...or maybe im just being too literal. it didn't distract completely, it just confused me a bit. the other thing was the wolf alpha mentioned that he thought chance was an omega human, and therefore wanted to "breed" chance. I guess I wish there was a bit more clarity in this world's rules. I don't want to give too much away with spoilers. as I said, they don't really distract from the story, just things i wish were a bit more Clarified. Still enjoyed the story, and if you have time, I think it's worth picking it up and trying it out.
B.A. Stretke is one of my must-buy authors and I'm never disappointed.
Calum is the leader of Clan Keith of Dragon shifters who have spent the last 100 years on a quest to find their true mates. That quest has finally begun to come to fruition in Laramie, Wyoming when Calum meets Chance.
Chance is a human who has never had much of a break. He's been used and discarded by his family and is surrounded by people who hate him. I liked that Chance yearned for the connection that being Calum's mate brought, yet didn't quite know what to do about it since he'd never experienced love much before.
I'm excited to see where this series goes as each of the members of Clan Keith find their mates.
I've read both Vampires of Pittsburg and vampires of blood and bone and as much as I loved both of those series I don't think I'm going to read anymore of stretke's books. I was so excited starting this one because I thought seeing that it was 177 pages maybe there would be a little more depth in the story but I just didn't feel it. I'm all for fated mates, it's one of my favorite genres, but there is a point where using a bond as an excuse for insta-love is just plain lazy! All of his books follow this same arch! The characters change but the stories never really do and I'm kind of sick of reading the same story over and over again. Add to that the fact these books are by no means grammatically correct and I just can't force myself so read these anymore.
Come on, dragons!!!! I so wanted to like this, but this story really didn't have anything to it. Everything that happened in this story took place in like 2 to 2.5 days. To make matters worse, there wasn't any character/world building.
In addition, when it came to some explanations it was like it was pulled out of thin air because the conversations that supposedly happened, didn't. And if they did it was behind the scenes or in their dreams.
I think the thing that bothered me the most was the point of view sometimes switched between each paragraph with no indication; that drove me nuts.
I read a few of the reviews before reading this book. I have purchased many books from this author. I will say lately they do seem rushed and yes there are a few grammatical errors but I love with this author they give you unique and quirky characters. I would love to see more of Dane's story. He was very loyal to Chance and he seemed to be a strong personality who didn't take anything off anyone. Will wait and see what the next book brings.
Good. Really like the story, but whoa, the writing and words, while not bad, seemed off from this author, few repeated statements seemed redundant BUT BUT BUT I enjoyed the overall Story! I plan on getting the next one, and expect more dragons to come, (I don't know if the dragons or crimson vampires came first, but I loved that series and I expect this series to be just as good)
So many grammatical errors. This book was rushed, had no substance and read like it was written by someone who was trying to hard to be poetic, and instead came off as sickeningly sweet and over dramatic. There are better books out there folks!
I think this book and this series has more potential than it's giving. It needs to be longer, there needs to be more explanation, more depth to characters and relationships. My issue with most books like these are that they are not long or edited enough. I'm left wishing there was just more and given the fact that these aren't KU, I don't think I can justify buying anymore of the series.
This was a great beginning to a new series. This is the only kind of insta-love I like, because you expect it from shifters so it just works. Calum was awesome & Chance was such a sweety. My only issue is that I wish it was longer. Can't wait for the next one.
This is going to be an awesome series. Callum and Chance are the sweetest couple. Callum saves Chance from an abusive family member and his friends. Can't wait for the next book in this series
Wow! I never believed any thing could come close to the Crimson series, for me this is the book I have been waiting for, this book was totally hot, it Left me in flames. I want more more, more!
Well written and great story line. I hope there are more of the series if it is anything like the other series b.a Stretke written are in for a wonder treat. Thanks and keep up the good work
POVs changing from one paragraph to the next. Grammar errors abound. Punctuation way off. If edited and proofed those story has great potential. As it stands its very hard to not get thrown out of the read by the numerous errors.
This I good out line for a book. Very fast paced you never get a feel for a moment, something happens then you move along to the next thing no time to take a breath. I will say this feels like a fanfic good but not great.
Love stories of big bad tattooed bikers with teddy bear hearts!! Especially when they are dragon shifters great story but not long enough!!! Great read though got everything you need to get you hooked and to start the series!!!!
