With its cutting edge graphics and extensive catalogue of iconic games, the NES/Famicom played a huge part in the history of videogaming. Over the course of its 20-year lifespan the console sold in excess of 60 million units, making Nintendo a household name, and introducing youngsters everywhere to a whole new world of characters and stories. NES/ a visual compendium aims to showcase the very best pixel art, box art and product design on each system. Spread over 536 pages, it features more than 170 classic games, with articles on the leading developers, interviews with key figures in the industry and mini-features on subjects such as packaging, fan art and unreleased games.
This was a great book showcasing many NES and Famicom games from 1983 to 1993. Besides write-ups of about 200 games, the book also featured profiles of various early NES/Famicom developers like Capcom, Rare, and Konami, and interviews with lots of folks who worked for those companies. It is the fourth in a series, so I have no choice but to eventually read them all.
I supported this book on Kickstarter and I'm very glad I did. It's a pure nostalgia trip for anyone who grew up in the 80s--a thick, gorgeous book entirely dedicated to the NES. It's extremely well-made and has tidbits on all of the major games as well as many hidden gems. There are also quotes and interviews with artists, developers, and fans that all lend new perspectives on games that we grew up with. After finishing the book, I immediately went back to Kickstarter to support their upcoming SNES book.
Great visual guide and write-up for many NES and Famicom games. The classics you know are here, as well as other more obscure but also notable games you may not be familiar with. Plenty of pictures, plus interviews with creators and profiles of some notable game companies. Highly recommended for lovers of the 8-bit genre.
The NES was my first console and one of my favourites. This book was amazing featuring all the NES games and interviews with developers etc. Brought back a lot of memories and I’ve discovered new games I want to try 😃
