The story of Ronin Kassius, a male 1st year high school student living on the colonized world of Teloria, who finds himself an unwilling participant in the Gun Princess Royale Championship, where competitors known as Gun Princesses battle for the title of Gun Queen, and the right to compete for the vaunted rank of Gun Empress.
The sequel to "Awakening the Princess", and the continuation of Ronin Kassius's day from Hell.
The mysterious and untested Gun Princess, Mirai, has awakened and emerged from her Sarcophagus with Ronin's consciousness in control of her body. Now, Kassius learns of the circumstances surrounding the near death of his own human body, and his involvement in Mirai's creation due to his family's affiliation with House Elsis Novis.
But while one hurdle has been overcome, another props up as Ronin/Mirai and his companions with questionable motives and uncertain loyalties, are transported against their will to a desert locale and a perfect replica of Telos Academy that will serve as the setting for a duel between the recently awoken Mirai, whose full capabilities are as yet unknown, and the reigning Gun Queen of Ar Telica city who has twice fallen shy of earning the title of Gun Empress, and who now aims to use Mirai as a stepping stone to ultimate victory.
To win, Ronin will need to draw upon all that he can of Mirai's preternatural strength if he is to keep himself and his companions alive in a battle that will pull no punches, and where defeating the Gun Queen may earn him little more than a bittersweet victory.
It is hard to talk about The Measure of a Princess (Book Two) without spoiling the first book, but it does a nice job of advancing the story and the themes of the first book. In fact, the two books really do feel like one story, so I am glad I got to read them back-to-back. Readers who felt like the first book ended rather abruptly will be pleased to see the action picks right back up here.
This is a darker chapter, but also a more exciting one. Having introduced the characters and the concept, Albert Ruckholdt really settles into the story here, focusing more on the action that I was craving and less on the drama that surrounded much of the first book. The overarching mystery of how and why Ronin is in such a situation is better explored here as well, making this far more than just an opportunistic cosplay adventure.
What I appreciated most about this second book, however, was the refinement of Ronin/Mirai. He was a bit of a whiny victim in the first book, and his constant complaining about the situation grated on me. It made sense, and that struggle makes this second book more meaningful, but I spent much of the first book anxious for him to move on. Here, he negotiates some sort of self-acceptance, and begins to settle into both his role and the powers it gives him. As dark as the story was at times, it was also a lot more fun.
Clearly, the story of Gun Princess Royale is not yet done, so do not expect any answers to the big questions, but this second book does feel more complete, more self-contained, with a climax that satisfies while still keeping the reader hooked for Book Three.
Book two in the Gun Princess Royals is a great sequel to the first book. This one has a lot more action in it and has a great flow of events that keep the reader interested. Everything that happens tied very well together and has a smooth reading to it. There are a few grammatical errors through out the book but easy to get past as they are missing words or repeated words. I really recommend this book to anyone wanting a great book that is easy to picture and has something for everyone to attach to.
Like many books that have a very evolved science compared to us current you need to suspend disbelief in regards to technology. I found I loved the book and it's main character Ronin has he struggled to adapt and manage his life when the universe pulls a fast one.
I am looking forward to seeing the completion of this series.
A gripping story with lot's of action part zombie first shooter and a transgender love story and coming of age a lot from one book so hope book 3 comes soon ?
I want more!!! I know the third one was suppose to come out but i wonder where i can find it. I want to read what happens next!!!! Definitely one of my favorites
I read the first book and really enjoyed it and I couldn't wait for the sequel and now that I have read it I have come to the conclusion that "I cannot live without" this series anymore and it was money well spent in fact I would be willing to pay a significant amount more for this book and its following books, it's just that good.
