The band embarks on their first concert tour! But it's not all texts, hugs & rock 'n' roll, cause there's drama and danger at every stop!
First, in the "Dark Jem" saga, something is wrong with Synergy, and, just as their tour kicks off, Jem, Kimber, Aja, and Shana discover someone is after them. Someone called Silica. But who, or what, is she? At the same time, the Misfits are looking for a fill-in lead singer, but will the substitute be permanent?
Then, in "Ch-Ch-Changes", the girls try to regroup following Silica's attack, while the Misfits face a new problem. They needed a new lead singer; now they have one too many!
Finally, "Enter the Stingers," a European supergroup made up of Riot, Rapture, Minx, and Raya. They're taking the U.S. by storm, and no one's going to stand in their way. Are the Holograms' 15 minutes of fame already up?
KELLY THOMPSON has a degree in Sequential Art from The Savannah College of Art & Design. Her love of comics and superheroes have compelled her since she first discovered them as a teenager. Currently living in Portland, Oregon with her boyfriend and the two brilliant cats that run their lives, you can find Kelly all over the Internet where she is generally well liked, except where she's detested.
Kelly has published two novels - THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING (2012) and STORYKILLER (2014) and the graphic novel HEART IN A BOX from Dark Horse Comics (2015). She's currently writing ROGUE & GAMBIT, HAWKEYE, and PHASMA for Marvel Comics and GHOSTBUSTERS for IDW. Other major credits include: A-Force, Captain Marvel & The Carol Corps, Jem and The Holograms, Misfits, Power Rangers Pink, and the creator-owned mini-series Mega Princess.
Kelly's ambitions are eclipsed only by her desire to exist entirely in pajamas. Fortunately pajamas and writers go hand in hand (most of the time). Please buy all her stuff so that she can buy (and wear) more pajamas.
The first 10 issues (and the extras), collected in the first Outrageous Edition, were fun and I really enjoyed the nostalgia and character designs. But I found issues 11-23 not nearly as enjoyable. It could be that I'm not a fan of meredith mcclaren's art, or that the characters have seemed to become more like teens than professional 20-something year olds. Also where are the Starlight girls? I was hoping Jerrica would still be a philanthropist that runs a foster home for youth, but we don't really see that. Eric is pretty much non-existent and not much of a villain so much of the storylines are mundane everyday stuff ..I was sort of hoping they'd reveal him as Jerrica and Kimber's father's murderer since it was hinted at in the original cartoon episode but quickly dropped. I was hoping this would be a more adult take on the series or expanding storylines. The comic has seemed to get rid of crazy Misfit antics, Eric trying to swindle innocent people, traveling to put on concerts, Rio and Jerrica cuteness, Kimber and Stormer making their own band, or helping out the Star Light girls with interesting storylines like drug abuse or finding lost parents. Sadly Most of the stories were of girls going to coffee dates in downtown LA, struggling in the studio, or Jerrica struggling with her self confidence. Hopefully the next volume will be more fun.
