My name is Sora. I was born into this world to a highly respected Mage family. All was well as a child; most children receive their magic at puberty… I was not that fortunate. Shunned by my family, I was cast out on my twenty-first birthday—a failure and disappointment to those who were supposed to love me. Left on my own in Seattle with no friends or money, I made my way through low-paying jobs down the coast to Southern California. Fate finally smiled upon me in San Diego, where I scored a serving position at a diner. One night after my shift, I decided to walk to a dive bar near my home to drown my sorrows. That was where I met him: the Master Vampire of the SoCal Clutch. It was either the biggest mistake of my life… or the best decision in the world.
Buy Sora’s adventure now to read about a true heroine who comes into her own despite the odds being stacked against her.

This was just plain bad. The writing style was awkward, the MCs didn't really have any personality, the love story was lacking, there was no world building, and the plot was kinda boring tbh. Everything just falls into place, there's no real conflict anywhere. The four povs were just too much and I really don't get why the girls got a first person pov and the guys a third person. That was just plain confusing, even the author got confused at least once. The two couples should each have their own book, 250 pages just weren't enough to flesh out two separate love stories. Blaze and Jackson were pretty much the same, two growly "Mine!" Alphas and the four female characters being introduced were pretty much all the same. Seriously, don't waste your time on this. If you're into sexy vampire romantasy, there are better ones out there. I really don't get all those extremely positive reviews.
I received this book as a gift to read and I am going to give a very honest opinion of what I read.
This is am amazing story. I loved the characters, I loved the plot and how everything came together. Even though the story finishes with a happy for now it makes you eager to find out more about the clutch and what is going to happen. I am on of those people that will not buy are even read a free offer if it has a cliffhanger; those stories just frustrate me. This is not one of those stories. This is filled with romance, action, funny lines, sadness, but not tissue type of sadness. It has so much filled into such a small package. I definetly recommend reading this one!
The story starts out with Sora feelings sorry for herself after a day working at the dinner. She was born to two of the most powerful Mages in the Seattle coven. When everyone else came into their power at puberty she did not. Still not receiving her powers by twenty one the Council decided to cast her out; banishment. She was such an embarrassment to her parents they didn’t even say goodbye to her. Selected people drove her into the center of the city and left her there with just the closes on her back. Taking one meager job after another she finally made her way to southern California and settled in San Diego. There she met Giselle; she had lost her husband and daughter in an auto accident a few years back and took Sora under her wing. Sora moved into the apartment over her garage and had dinner with her a few nights a week. As I said she is feeling sorry for herself and decides to go to the bar Curley’s and have a few drinks. She only noticed one other patron there off to the far corner of the bar. She finally left at 1:45am heading home when suddenly she knocked to the grown hitting her head on the concrete blacking out. When she comes to; guy were searching her work apron and took her wallet before they ran off. Making it back home she showered to get the dirty and blood out of her hair and went to bed.
The next few days are very strange for her. People are staring at her everywhere she goes. Then one evening she gets someone knocking on the door and grabbing her baseball bat she waited at the door. She could hear them talking about a scent. Finally she sees her deadbolt unlock and the door opens. Standing there are two huge guys their names Vance and Jake. She demands to know what the want and they seem to be in a trance answering all of her questions. Telling her that Blaze had sent them out to look for her and to find out what she was. Blaze was the Leader of the So Cal clutch of vampires. The next night Blaze shows up they talk he leaves her his card telling her if she needs any advice to give him a call. After he left she tried and succeeded in putting a ward over her door and door frame to keep people out unless she invites them in. The next night it gets its first test and though it worked well the recipient was far from please. Mel the werewolf Alpha walked away in his wolf form snarling and with hair missing on his leg. She called Blaze and asked him about what happen suddenly he was at her door telling her to pack she had to get out of there. Before leaving she placed a ward over all of Giselle’s property so nothing would happen to her then she passed out.
Once Blaze got her to his Clutch he has a lot of explaining to do, hopefully Sora would take it well he could only hope. Oh so much happens in this story and I can’t tell you all that I know then it would take all of the pleasure out of it for you. I will say that Blaze has an older brother that is his second in command. They are both coming close to their 1000 years of age and after that if the don’t find their mates they will fall into a madness. Now will they find their mates? Will there be a war between the werewolf’s? What about the Counsel; what are they going to do when and if they hear about Sora? There it is, now you will have to get the book if you really want to know more of it someone spills more beans than I did.
Holy Crap. Holy crap. Holy freaking crap. This was a really god book. After I read the House of Night Series, I have been looking for a good vampire romance novel. I was scrolling through BookBub and stumbled across this book. Of course, after reading the summary, I had to get it. I loved this book. However, I do believe that I am just being very emotional about the book but you know what, WHO CARES SOUTH. As I was saying. If I was rating this book base on how it made me feel, I would give it 5 stars. However, I am going to have to give it three stars for the writing.
Sora was cast out by her own people because she didn't possess any magical powers. She is left on the streets to fend for herself. One night she "meets" Blaze, a vampire. He takes her blood and leaves her in a grassy spot. That chance meeting turns out to be much more. Can she be a mage and a vampire at the same time? What about Blaze? Can she love the one who turned her world upside down?
Things I Liked. - I am a HUGE vampire fan so, of course, this book immediately appealed to me. It lived up to my (low) expectations. (I have not really found many good vampire books.) - Sora is a very well developed character, with LOTS of character.
Things I Did Not Like - It was confusing. The author would sometimes not mention who was talking and some details were left out. - Viv and Sora were a little to similar for my liking. - The book didn't feel completely original. I felt like I was reading City of Bones with Twilight, and (one of my favorite books that I have reviewed) Saved by a Spell.
It is a great book if you can overlook these minor difficulties.
As a young vampire tries to make her way in the world, chaos ensues. Janelle Peel’s Vampire Mage has plenty of twists in store but it was Sora that took center stage for me. She’s gritty and tough, but also down to earth and likeable, very important properties for our main character and narrator. A great action-packed and heartfelt novel for any fans of Supernatural out there!
Don't waste your time with this one. This book was painful to read. There are Mary Sues and Gary Stus all over the place. I feel like it was written by a teenager, rather than an adult.
Powerless mage gets bit by vampire, magically turns into powerful mage with FANTASTIC hair. Vampire is rich, handsome and life mate!! Werewolf gets growly for no apparent reason. Best friend gets bit, vampire's brother is life mate, hair is less fantastic but still good!! Vampires buy girls dresses for THE BALL. Werewolves get growly again...tune in for next book to discover if anyone gets blood on their dress...
Not my cup of tea. Nothing happens...

Growing up with the whole Twilight craze I didn’t know what to expect with this book. Would it focus on just vampires or what? At first I felt like I couldn’t get into the characters voice because I’ve spoken to the author before. But after getting into the grove, it was a fast good read for me. I like that magic was added to the book made it fun and interesting. I also enjoyed seeing how the shape shifters turned into more animals, not just wolves. Personally my favorite character was Viv she was more my speed, although sometimes she and the main character can be a little too typical American for my taste. What I did love was the ending. The ward is damaged and we all assume ok its those damn Shape shifters, but nope its some random girl we have no idea who the heck she is. However the main character seems to know her and I love she doesn’t just show off that shes a total bad ass now with her magic, even though I would have because the girl was an asshole. The book ends there, which for me wasn’t really a cliffhanger because it’s like you know you’re going to see more of this bitchy character and Sora is probably gonna kick her ass at some point and it just leaves room to wonder what is gonna happen next.

Peel's writing, while still developing, reminds me of Sherrilyn Kenyon's. Coming from me that's high praise because Kenyon is a Master of paranormal romance novels in my opinion and everything she writes pure gold. I enjoyed Vampire mage but I wanted it to be more fleshed out. I wanted the characters to have more depth and the world building to be a bit more....well a bit more I guess. Despite those things I think the story has potential and I'm invested in the characters. I want to know what happens next. So I'll be buying the next book.
Absolutely riveting! The feelings that Sora goes through with Blaze seems so real! The different characters and the personalities are amazing! Makes you think of them as your friends that you would love to have your back!!!
Absolutely amazing! The POV switches were fluid and the writing was tight. Anyone who rates this less than a 5 is insane! Action packed, I was continually engaged and could visualize every aspect of every single character! Excellent read!
I downloaded Vampire Mage as a free book from Amazon. This read was a pleasant surprise- I expected more cliches, but received interesting world-building and tense conflict. I was loving the storyline so much, I moved seamlessly into book 2.
I absolutely love this series. The main characters are my type of herione/hero. Just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!! I am quite picky when reading any novel. The summary has to catch my interest. The heroine has to have the personality/characteristics that I look for. Strong, independent, loyal, loving, humble, but also bad-ass, and mean when called for. I guess I am asking for too much. But this series delivers.
This is fascinating with new magic spells and a match between a Vampire and the lady who only comes into her own powers which continue to grow as her vampire mate and she consolidate within the vampire clutch. I would like to read the next book in this series.
Thank you for the read, I will look out for the other books in the future. I appreciate the book didn’t leave me in a complete cliff hanger. Just enough to want more.
An enjoyable read! This was my first book by this author (didn't realize it's part of a series until later) but I was able to follow the story. Interesting storyline and characters.
Vampire Mage is a modern day fantasy that is a quick and fun read. It takes place on the west coast (of the US) from California to Washington state. Peel does an amazing job of explaining past events, giving the right ratio of details and mystery allowing everything to click into place at exactly the right moment. Vampire Mage is a perfectly paced quick read that will leave you on the edge of your seat begging for more.
As a new to me author I was hesitant to pick up a story with mixed reviews but oh boy am I seriously happy that I did. I quickly fell in love with Sora and many of the main characters of this series. The author is able to build a world that combines magic, thrills and some seriously heated moments.
The story starts off at a slow pace as the reader gets to know Sora. The reader is then thrown into a fast paced plot twisting paranormal read that is a real nail bitter that also can make even the sassiest readers cheeks blush.
The characters are so well crafted you simply fall for them and I have to kniw how thuscstory continues. The world is fascinating in that if you read paranormal fiction it is familiar but different. As a reader, I am also a lover of words and Janelle Perl uses them well.
