For The Broken II is the wildly anticipated follow up to Shenaia Lucas' poetry debut. It is an exquisite collection of poetry divided into five chapters. Each chapter serves a different purpose. The chapters are For The Healing, For The Erasing, For the Loving, For the Oppressed, and For the Broken. This book teaches you to love yourself and others. It's better experienced than described, so sit down with some coffee and allow yourself to feel-- and heal.
you are so compassionate trying to heal every broken soul that comes your way always giving and giving but you cannot give away what you do not have yourself -wisdom
this is..... not what I wanted to read. It was some fake woke twitter type of poetry. I’m so over the milk and honey crap that is just a normal sentence with different types of spacing -and punctuation.
seriously thank god this took me ten mins to read so I didn’t waste more of my time but you can prob go read other writing like this from something like buzzfeed. These aren’t poems to me these are mostly sentences that everyone says.
“Fuck The patriarchy -patriarchy”
“We need to Start treating Animals better -fuck sea world”
“Sleep with me -intimacy”
Like for real???? I mean art is different to everyone and evokes different emotions but this just evoked an eye roll.
Since I loved For The Broken I in 2018, I assumed this second part would be as heartbreaking and heartwarming as the first one. But I found out that it didn't move me as much as I expected. I mean, it is good and some poems are great, especially the last part of the book. Maybe it wasn't meant for me in this moment of my life, I'll never know.
Anyway, I enjoyed it nevertheless. It is a light and fast reading, so it's good to pass the time, for example during the daily commute.
"brokenness is not a label that will follow you for the rest of your life. brokenness is merely a bridge between where you were and all the places you’ll." -brokenness is a journey
Finished the second installment to this series and this book is more detailed than the first one. To be honest, it's quite hard to see the light when you are in the middle of the unending darkness and this book is more like encouraging its reader to keep hanging there, keep holding on until you finally see the light. Your story is not final. 🙌
I read 'For the Broken' last week, and unfortunately, it didn't resonate with me. Still, I decided to give the poet another shot with this collection. However, I found myself enjoying it even less than the previous book. It was a swift read, but none of the pieces delved deeper into meaningful themes or lengths. I felt like I was just skimming through it without much engagement or focus.
"The same legs that cause you to stumble will allow you to rise."
"You are not a burden. You are not hard to love. You are not a liability. You are beautiful, you are joy, you are strong and you are not defined by what they say."
This writing speaks to me on many level and I love that it contains poetry on today's events. Ii still wish it was a better format but I enjoyed it anyways.
Highly recommend. Very relatable for many people. Uplifting and realistic. Definitely going to read this during hard times in life when I need self reminders.
A short read that brings to the awareness that we are flawed and yet capable of being loved. In these short volumes, there is much to build up self-esteem and encourage the recognition of your self-worth. I found it to be relatable, inspiring, and overall a rewarding read.
