The religions, superstitious, non-guidance, Improper governance, genuine love, feeling of necessity towards truth, Awakening the thoughts, Racism are the different beads of the same deads.

The novel consisting of 10 stories which are interlinked with the social messages and social happenings where some exposed and talked out and where some still left non spoken.

My personal favorites are 'He,' Pluto and the Inomplete Solar system which tolds the story of a lieutenant soldier who lost his life for country and his geninune past love. Also, I liked the story "The Boy Who Uttered 'That' Word" which is about a 6th grade boy who Uttered a word 'Shit' quiet audible to everyone during class and how his teacher plays card to awakens the kid's thoughts.

Apart from my favorites all of them were good no grammatic errors or any other interruptions novel goes so lucidly with easy language and controlled narration. I liked the way author holds the social responsibility from his debut novel.

I would also recommend this to read by everyone for realizing the truths which we knowingly refusing to talk and to appreciate for someone initiated it.

Amazing book. Through this book the author presents before us stories of different flavours. I especially loved how the author has put forth different important issues through his stories. Social issues, personal conflict, religious conflicts have been described through the story in a very appealing way. Each short story has its own essence which keeps the readers glued till the end. The characters of the stories have been well designed. And each story seemed so relatable. Through this book the author has indeed succeeded in portraying the shades of the society!

The cover is nice. The title is wonderful and is appropriate for the book. The blurb could have been a bit more descriptive. The themes of each short story is really touching. The language is simple but good.

A must read!

Having read too many anthologies and many short stories, I didn't know what to expect from this book when I was asked to review it. Once thing was sure... I didn't want the same romance fare. And Sujay Malik did keep his word by stringing together a lovely collection of stories in the book "Different Beads of the Same String" (Published by Notion Press)

There are 10 stories in this book. Each story is beautifully held up and has its own narrative style. With the different kinds of situations and people brought to life in each of the stories, the most eclectic part of this book is that the stories cut across all age levels too.

I totally loved the completely unexpected way that the story has evolved in "Feelijus". "The Boy who uttered 'that' word" was a simple story but again very differently put up showing an academic life that we all have faced and yet never given much thought too.

As is my method, I won't reveal much but I greatly recommend this book for a good read. Hope to sample more stories like this, Sujay!

I have a very strong liking for short stories, I often pick up books with short n crisp stories and prefer reading them rather giving out time to full length novel, I was scrolling down amazon.in and that is when I came across 'different beads of the same strings', I read the blurb and voila, I knew that I just got the perfect read for the weekend. let me tell you I completed this book in a single siting of 3 hours. Sujay's writing style is so captivating that I couldn't keep the book down for a minute and kept it finally when I was through it. it was such an enthralling one, from romantic stories to one with good twist n turns, it has everything that a person will expect from this book after reading the blurb. from book cover to the way it is written, from its short synopsis to the exceptionally good one liners, this book is just mere perfect with absolutely no flaw. I felt if the mrp could have been a lil less, it would have been good otherwise content wise this book is worth ur money. a perfect book that should be present in your bookshelves.

Anthology has an advantage of covering a lot of ground in one book. This book is a mixed bag like most anthologies.

Anahita found her mentor in an old professor. As sometimes happens she feels attraction but he has his own past.

Swini, a Hindu loves a Muslim boy and the cant marry.

Michelle finds that Indian kids are as pathetic in taking care of their parents as Americans.

Feelijus is one good lesson about justice delayed is justice denied.

The stories are shorts, sweet and relatable though the themes and plots are old. 4/5 stars.

‘Different Beads of The Same String’ is a debut book by Sujay Malik. The book contains ten different stories based on social issues, personal conflicts, political intolerance and violence, and recent developments in the country. Reading this book seemed easier because of the fluent and standard language of the author. But I couldn’t proceed at times because of the simple yet drastic situations explained by Sujay. As a debut, I feel Sujay has to some extent done justice to writing Short Stories.

Different Beads Of Same String by Sujay Malik is a collection of 10 stories. Each story has their own way of making readers stick to the plot and read further. These stories covered aspects like Love, sacrifice, social issues, political issues etc. Some of them touched my heart while some other made me think.
The title and cover goes so well with the plot of the book. The language used is coherent. At some places I felt narration is little vague and hurried up. But over all it's a good read.

I love anthologies. I believe they make up a beautiful read along with each story teaching us something and can be read in one sitting.

I recently read this beautiful anthology, Different beads of the same string and loved the name! The stories are beautiful and revolve around social issues and give a moral without being preachy!

I love how anthologies bring the world together in one book. This book does the same. Malik has blended so many issues which we face on a day to day basis, and that’s what made the book very very relatable. While reading each story I felt that I was reading something from everyday! The stories were on common and day to day issues, but each had a “special” element in each.

The stories were just the right length, not too short and not too long and didn’t drag unnecessarily. They were straight to the point and each story was making sure I put my thinking cap on and dwell on the issues. Extremely well written, they deserve praise.

I really loved this book. It is a perfect afternoon read in these lovely winters. If you’re an anthology lover like me, you wouldn’t want to miss out on this one.

Different Beads of the Same String is a collection of short stories written by Sujay Malik. These diverse stories are interesting, with human conflict at their core.

The opening story And Then She Found It Again is about Anahita, a young woman of eighteen who has failed in her CA examination. Her relationship with her mother, like any other girl of her age, is rocky. This story demonstrates how a stormy youth can be transformed for the better by offering some love and understanding.

'He,' Pluto and the Incomplete Solar System is a love story which remains incomplete inter alia because of difference in religions. In Feelijus the writer adopts a scary narration style to highlight the plight of those millions who wait for justice. This story, though disturbing is a creative genius for sure.

Pushed into a Corner is about the discrimination, particularly sexual harassment which women from the North-east face due to their distinguishable physical features. Weaved amidst communal violence the Genuine Protector is a tale with a twist. What if you fall in love with the man from the same community which has massacred your own family member and robbed you of your speech and hearing, is a question dealt in the story Converted Language.

Then and Now cites the dramatic transformation of a person who had been wronged into the justice giver. The Missing Link shows the plight of a couple whose son is missing after a devastating earthquake. The Apt Time underlines the blind faith of masses in Godmen in India and its unfortunate repercussions. The Boy Who Uttered 'That' Word exhibits the double standards which teachers adopt sometimes.

Sujay's writing is poignant and disturbing, more disturbing then poignant. He touches varied subjects and sometimes simply leaves you shaken to the core, without offering any solution. When it comes to originality and social context, I give him full marks. The stories leave an impact on you. The dialogues though are a big problem. The characters speak bookish language and that makes them sound unreal. Yet if you, like me, admire short stories, would like this book.

'Different beads of the same string' is a collection of ten stories of people from all walks of life. Most of the characters in the book can be thought of people around us who are silently suffering from a tragedy.
Quite often we fret on silly things that we forget that there are people who have been through harsher times.

My personal favourite was the story titled ' Feelijus'. It begins with two men basking in the ecstasy of smoking, when they are interrupted by a frail person with disheveled look. He slips them a note having an address of a location along with the warning something on the lines of 'Proceed at your own risk'. The two guys decide to explore the place purely for pleasure. They are led to a dilapidated building located in a remote corner of the city. Following the instructions in the note, they enter a dimly lit room. Suddenly, the door behind them closes and the two of them find themselves trapped. Will they be able to escape the perilous room? Read the book to find out. This story that can be presumed to be a thriller turns out to be a heart wrenching one at the core.

The writing was lucid devoid of any grammatical errors. The narration was subtle absorbing the readers to the fictional world created by the author. The characters feel painfully real. The emotions felt by them were beautifully articulated in words.

I would like to commend the author for bringing forth serious yet neglected issues like racism towards North Eastern people, woes of the victims of communal violence and religious superstitions to the attention of the readers. Books can indeed act as a catalyst for breaking the stereotypes and challenging the societal norms. This book is one of them.

The ending of many stories was rushed and remained inconclusive. Sometimes, the message the author wanted to convey was lost between the lines.

After finishing the book, you will feel emotionally overwhelmed but will most importantly make you ponder over unexplained practices prevalent in the society.

What do you expect to be the plot line of the stories written by a successful CA?
Are you thinking of the mind-numbing figures or the stress of the corporate culture that one has to go through?
Well, I was being wronged when I read ''Different beads of the same string'' by Sujay Malik.
Being a novice writer, he has actually woven the beads in a beautiful neck piece of stories.
So eye- catching titles with such heart warming storylines.
Aren't you excited to know how an eighteen year old girl, Anahita, who after losing her father to death, failing in CA exams decided to end her life. But what made her change this decision when she met Mr. Sarang Desh Pandey, her accountacy professor.
Or don't you want to explore the second story where Love, Passion and religion were on a test. Who won or who lost ? Read on to explore.
You can also read on how Molly Kamson from Imphal taught a lesson to the son of her college's trustee for sexually assaulting her and passing her lewd comments of being a ''Chinki'' even when the police refused to help her and no other doors seemed to open for her.
All the ten stories are heart warming and sometimes heart wrenching too. Malik's attempt to give a social message to the society has been rightly interpreted in his every story. Cheers!
The only part where the book lacked according to me was - a reader friendly vocabulary. The reader has to be a master of synonyms if he clearly wants to understand the beauty of the sentences.
I used a dictionary too. But apart from that, it is a great book to read and Infact increase your vocabulary too.
So enjoy a good reading and share your comments if you agree with the reviews :)

“Different Beads of the same string” is a comprehensive collections of 10 short stories, beautifully penned down by Sujay Malik. This book definitely reflects the style and enduring quality of writing of Modern Indian Fiction.

All the stories are quite different, yet alike in the treatment of the subject, as the writer chose to deal with some of the deepest themes and situations present in our society.

Malik forces the reader to not only think about the issues he raised, but also to put themselves in the shoes of the protagonist and go through his emotions.

Every story is complete in itself and stands as an individual among the others. Its like 10 different beads put together to make a magnificent necklace.

Definitely recommended to all the book lovers!

Different Beads of the same string - a collection of 10 stories which embarks a life changing impact on every readers. Every stories has a unique theme which deals with most of the present day issues too. The stories ranges from a girl cursing her own mom, a team fighting against delayed justice, a old woman who strives to breath yet is living just to see her son once, a woman who became prey to superstitious believes etc. These stories hinders the emotions of the readers and leaves us speechless at the end.

I'm referring to the top 3 stories which hooked me up with it till the end and also left an evergreen impact within me.

Feelijus - Feeling Justice. This story deals with the delayed justice which is commonly occuring in this present India. Even when the law students shows no care to work towards rectifying errors in the law and order of the nation, a group of people come together anonymously and makes awareness among the people of what the nation has undergone since ages. This story has unexpected twists and the author holds us to it till the end.

The missing link - It's based on an aged couple who became victim of earthquake which shook up their house and also their hope of finding their missing son. But when an NGO organiser, Michelle helps the couple to find their son, the hard reality hits them and the old man realises that their son is running away from him. It's an emotional story depicting the hurdles of an aged people and the author very well narrates the pain of the old lady who is still holding her breath to see her son for atleast once.

The apt time - This is constructed with the blind beliefs as a central theme. When the daughter in law gets pregnant, the seniors of the household consults it with pandit and asks her to hold the baby till the apt time comes. But when they also force the doctor to postpone her delivery even after the labor pain forces her to give up, they realise that her unborn child is no more. This story opens the eyes of people who still recks on blind beliefs.

The author deserves an applause for his bold writing and powerful vocabulary. The narration and characterisation holds up the book throughout the reading time. The author has etched a mark with his debut book. The title and cover also apts well with the book. Looking for more books from the author.

Verdict :

Pleasant read

10 different stories. 10 different stories teaching different ways to live a life. Author has really touched my heart with this book and every page I read I found something more interesting. First thing I loved by the author is that the title totally goes with the storyline. I see books which have theme based on something and title unrelated.
A really good book with stories which have a really good moral. Sometimes the long stories don't make us change much the way short stories do. Completed reading it in a night, I took most of its contents positively. Respect and value for girls, and hardwork's reward. Everything in one small book of stories. A good read with lucid language. Worth reading to understand life.

'Different Beads of the Same String' - A title so justifiable with every aspect of what the book contains. Well who gave birth to this exceptional piece of creative writing : Mr. Sujay Malik😍
The unbeatable uses of amazing phrases, the extraordinarily built up content yet so much relate-able. A lesson that I always wanted to pass - breaking societal stereotypes has commenced with this book✌️👌
In short, the book was a journey from "human bewilderment" to "enriching enlightenment" for me. I left reading short stories due the confinement of idea it used to present sometimes, but my faith has literally been revived. Thank you Sujay Sir.
Thank you Tushti Bhatia aka Tushu for introducing me to such a heavenly piece of writing. Warmest regards to Sujay Sir for what a fantastic message he has spread through his piece of writing.

Must say, Sujay Malik sir has done a deep introspection of the past, the present and the future, ranging from the ordinary to extraordinary, for the book has touched every aspects in the reader's mind which he/she wish to touch.

Each story is appealing and has its own taste. The characters are coherent to the tale and the way of narration. And the tale, they are something to ponder about, even after the completion of reading, it's imprints remain. Impressive !

It has a collection of some wonderful terms of which I were oblivious to. Glad to put them in my bag of collection.

Overall, I loved the collection for it touched my heart.

I am not a great fan of anthologies hence I always feel doubtful about picking any book which has 10-12 short stories. But for a change, I thought of trying something from the new set of releases from an Indian author and thus landed upon Sujay Malik’s “Different Beads Of The Same String” which consists of 10 short stories. The book is published by Notion Press publication and is of only 120 pages which can be completed in a single sitting of 2 to 2.5 hours.

The best part about the book is that the author has tried to keep the stories versatile where no two stories sound similarly. Sujay Malik has also taken care of the narration very well in the stories where he keeps changing his style as per the demand of the story. His command over the language is also skilful as he manages to create emotions, excitements, wonder etc. on his demand. The choice of stories is nicely edited and selected as it manages to strike the chord with the Indian readers. This book will basically be liked by the young or new readers as author has kept things straight and simple.

The story also reflects the contemporary societal problems where a girl from North-eastern stretch is a victim of racism and physical violence. Another story talks about how two guys are being taught a small lesson so that they stop smoking. One story discusses about the personal awakening of a person. One story talks about the condition of the law and justice in our nation. All the stories have different parameters and thus, keeps the reader interested in the book.

Talking about the drawbacks, the first thing I would point out is the number of the stories in the book and the length of each story. I don’t believe a young reader would purchases a novel worth Rs. 200/- for 10 short stories when there are bigger Whatsapp forwarded stories available for free. Secondly, author has kept the language and narration of the stories too simple which might not impress matured and avid readers as they would be expecting a level-up stuff. Otherwise, this book is a light read which is best to read while traveling alone. I give this book 3 stars out of 5.

Thanks.

The slush pile in publishing business is known to every one who is privy to the industry. The book by Sujay Malik proved the same. Keeping the bestsellers from top publishers as reference, if this book needed to be self published, then the acceptance of proposal and the rest of the steps need to be considered as a farce. The level of literary finesse possessed by the author is at par or more with any other bestselling authors.

Different Beads of the same string is a collection of short stories depicting different streams of life. The stories basically portrays the discrimination in society towards the helpless class in terms of money, caste, physical ability and the likes. The narration keeps the readers engrossed in the lives of different characters. Be it Anahita's affection towards Sarang, Swini's relation with Mansoor, Molly's struggle against Racial and Gender discrimination, or Gandhali and Sohail's silent affair, author has touched a chord in the heart of the readers that keep on resonating for hours and days after reading.

Lack of prejudice is the highlight of the book, though the finesse of narration too scores high. Author did not put down any political or religious groups unlike what is seen of late in the books where authors use the medium to criticize and being biased. The stories shouts out to the society to open their eyes without screaming loud. Author proved that, to be a socially responsible writer, we need not belittle anyone or use offensive storylines but without undue diplomacy.

The cover of book provides an accurate depiction of the content.Book is the collection of short stories.Author describes lives that could be that of any reader.

These short stories offer cheeky intellectualism, raves and rants, quiet solitude, and humour.

The stories are tonally varied, ranging from rural to urban & more realistic.

Characterization is very good and well developed.

Author woven every story very well. There is much to love within these pages. I was captivated to the end.
