How would you like to experience your life? It’s an intriguing question, and yet we’ve been conditioned to believe our life visions and goals are often unattainable—until now. With The Possibility Principle, psychotherapist Mel Schwartz offers a revolutionary approach to living the life we choose.Though science has vastly expanded our knowledge, it has also led us to adopt a worldview where we see ourselves as insignificant specks living in a mechanical universe. Now, insights from quantum physics reveal that our universe is, in fact, a vibrantly intelligent reality and that each of us plays a vital role in shaping it. In this groundbreaking book, Schwartz shows us how to integrate this new quantum worldview into our everyday lives, allowing us to transcend our limitations and open to infinite possibilities. The Possibility Principle reveals how we can apply the three core tenets of quantum physics—inseparability, uncertainty, and potentiality—to live the life we choose, free from the wounds of our past and the constraints of our old beliefs. You can learn Develop a mastery of your thinking as you free yourself from the replication of old thought patternsUtilize the concept of wave collapse to realize that you are not imprisoned by your genes, brain chemistry, or past traumasOvercome anxiety and depression through a shift of mindThrive in resilient relationships and develop powerful communication skills that foster empowerment and intimate connectionEmbrace uncertainty to ride the waves of personal change
Alright..so im connected in mny unravelled nd importamt ways to the universe,im a part of it yes,an agile retroactive part of huge importance..so wht? Ok im not sufferin alone anymore,i just suffee with millions more, does that make me feel better? NO Its like u get cancer, they tell u dont be sad, here s a room full of people with cancer, with whom u r quantumly connected! Do i truely give a ****? No.. Cuz im gomna die anyway . Let me paint u a picture, imagin u r diying or u r depressrd or somebody just crushed you nd ur heart nd soul whtever,now..i ll put you in "7tir metro",which is crowded AF,(u dont get a seat obviously)..nd i tell u hey!all these people suffer the same shit, but u r all part of universe therefore connected eternaly! DOES THAT MAKE U EVEN SLIGHTLY FEEL BETTER? NO Lets get serious now... Some wounds infest u from within,nd these books..well they just dont have the reach..
I was fortunate enough to get an advanced copy of this book. I love to read books that open my eyes to a new way of thinking. This did more than that!
This book has enabled me to completely re-envision my relationship with myself and with others. As I take in the author's suggestions, I find my self-worth increasing as well as my confidence. I'm also able to communicate consciously and powerfully.
The Possibility Principle suggests that most of our problems come from how we view reality. That may sound kind of philosophical. But Schwartz introduces a new way of seeing things, based upon discoveries from quantum theory. I'm no scientist and in fact did poorly in science in school. But he makes it really simple. One big takeaway for me is about uncertainty. I learned that by welcoming uncertainty, I could overcome my fears quickly.
Sorry, I thought this was an interesting read, based on the topic, but it felt pretty much like a revision of things I already knew (science and psychology).
Thank you to the publishers for providing an ARC of this book through NetGalley.
Full disclosure: I'm a sucker for self-improvement books. This amazing thesis on interconnectedness, quantum theory, and overcoming the stagnant habitual mind is the perfect manual for living.
At first I was concerned that the "science" part of this book would be a reach for me. It was no problem and very accessible. This book offers so much that I haven't read anywhere else. I can't begin to speak off all the benefits I've derived. Most important for me though was learning to get past fear and anxiety and pave a new path in my life. I'm on my way!
This book found me at the right time, as I was confused about my life and what I am doing today! Through Schwartz's discussion of inseparability, uncertainty, and potentiality, I have come to embrace the real meaning of living a peaceful life. The Possibility Principle reveals how we can apply the three core tenets of quantum physics―inseparability, uncertainty, and potentiality, to live the life we choose and the life everyone dream about, totally free from the wounds of our past.
In this book, Mel has given us a remarkably insightful and readable understanding of some principles and how to implement them into our lives. This is a must-read for anyone finding difficulty in getting rid of anxiety and depression.
If you are stuck in old ways of thinking, and you are have a feeling that you are not able to connect to the present, this is a must read for you. Whether examining one’s personal or professional life, whether focused on science or physics, readers will find compelling insights to take away. So, overall it's an excellent book that leaves me craving for more. You may need to come back to it after some other reading though to get the full benefits. Note down the things you want to remember forever!
Really loved this book, it's worth reading and extremely helpful!
The author extrapolates conclusion from quantum physics that fit his argument perfectly. True bad they’re gross misrepresentations. There seems to be a trend nowadays, taking physics or philosophy and representing it in such a way that it seems to support whatever the writer wants to say.
Honestly I’ve found most of the book to be a waste of time. I’m no physics expert but a simple google search can tear apart the entire logical foundation of this book. Quantum mechanics apply to small particles and not to humans. By the time he got into telekinesis and such, I was rolling my eyes. By the time he started making statements like “but it could be, couldn’t it?” I was ready to ask for a refund.
Fortunately for him, the psychology part is not bad. It’s actually decent. I just wish he didn’t make me roll my eyes so many times with his “metaphorical” explanation of quantum mechanics and most importantly, to STOP MAKING LOGICAL FALLACIES AS USING A PREMISE AS THE CONCLUSION. It’s the worst way to write a book, by far.
I won this book in a giveaway. The title intrigued me so I tried to win it. I've read many non-fiction books on this topic so some of the advice and suggestions were not new. Having never studied any type of physics but being a geek, I wondered about the quantum physics connection. I enjoyed learning about quantum physics in the book. It is a geeky subject but presented in a way that is easy to understand. I always take notes when I read a non-fiction and there weren't too many ideas that were new and different for me. I think the overall read is just another way of looking at and finding one more way of understanding ways to improve your life.
I'm recommending this book to a friend who has an adult daughter with some depression and anxiety issues. Her daughter is off-the-chart smart so this presentation may appeal to her. Crossing my fingers that it reaches her.
This book was interesting. I am currently on a journey of self-discovery and came across the author as I was asking myself; “who am I?”. I felt it was at points hard to grasp how quantum physics affect how humans think. Despite of this I tried to keep an open mind to the idea. After all it seems we have all been affected by a classical mechanistic worldview. What I liked most in the book was the topic of change. It made me feel like all sorts of change is possible.
This was something new I have read. The Possibility Principle, written by Mel Schwartz, a practicing psychotherapist, writer, and speaker, is an insanely in-depth book about how quantum physics can be applied to improve our perspective on reality, relationships, uncertainty, emergence, and entanglement.
This book shares the myriad benefits we can enjoy by integrating the messages of quantum physics into our everyday existence. Examples drawn from Mel's daily practice will show you how you can achieve these breakthroughs.
The book is divided into there conceptions:
1. Embracing Uncertainty: Under this head, Mel is sharing how welcoming uncertainty in our life frees us from the severely constrained existence in which the mechanic template imprisons us. As Mel says, "Uncertainty is where new possibilities lie."
2. Potentiality: As we welcome uncertainty, reality looks more like a perpetual state of flow than a fixed state of being. With a shift in our perceptions and thinking, we too can enter into the flow of possibilities.
3. Inseparability: This head says "Inseparability implies that we are an integral part of everything and everyone." This head shows us the meaning, purpose, and connectedness.
Throughout this book, Mel explores these 3 principles in detail and shares how they can benefit us to improve our worldview and, ultimately, our life.
Final Words: Truly engaging read. It is filled with knowledge and sometimes feels kind of overwhelming as it has too much to consume from one single book. If you are planning to get this, which I really recommend though to the audience who really enjoys science-based books, I suggest reading it slowly and let the knowledge get consumed before heading forward.
I received an e-copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I initially requested this book because the description intrigued me. The author's writing style is thoughtful, eloquent, and intellectual. I appreciate the use of metaphors, such as when he refers to wave collapses and how a person can make use of that moment for personal growth. This book is not about Law of Attraction teachings but rather focuses on our ability to change our views and release attachments to the stories we've created about ourselves and our experiences. A particularly helpful insight is how we can change our personal belief about an emotionally charged topic from subjective to objective--in other words, he offers a way to reframe beliefs on a variety of topics that might hold someone back from personal growth and effective communication. I also appreciate his encouragement to embrace uncertainty, vulnerability, mistakes, and intellectual intuition.
I would have liked a summary of what to do/what not to do at the end of each chapter to easily identify key points.
I recommend this book for anyone ready to shift their thinking away from victimhood and toward healing old stories and improving communication. I should note this isn't a book you can sit down and read quickly, and it's not written in the conversational style many self-help books lean toward.
I received an ARC from Goodreads to review. This author is very eloquent in his explanations as to the relationships between scientific theory and the failure of this system to overcome despair and anxiety. However, it was not new information to me. A mechanistic view of life is the problem with the healthcare system, and finding ways to relax and enjoy life varies for everyone. Some people enjoy going to a football game with 100,000 other people, and some people relax by playing video games, and some people need to escape to nature. There is not simple answer to this issue, and the book has little to do with quantum physics although it is a catchy title.
I enjoyed the premise of this book. We haven't made the big leaps in many areas of our lives in line with the revelations quantum theories have provided over the last hundred years. The book didn't build on the premise for me. I understand the author is a therapist, but the constant referencing to his experiences with clients doesn't take this book forwards and could have been eliminated. I didn't feel the author built on the premise. I was left wanting more and it felt more like a 'how to be good at therapy' or 'how to get the most out of therapy' book. The book fizzles out near the end and ends quite abruptly.
I read the kindle addition. Then felt I needed the hard copy to allow me to find my highlights easier. I have been on a spree of learning about the mind, quantum physics, and relationships. This was complimentary to all the other books I have been reading and absorbing.
He has many fantastic, practical tips in the book. Not just case examples, but explanations to help you apply the techniques or consider your own head space. I am enjoying the hard copy so I can take extra notes on it.
An entirely new perspective on how to think. This book demands your full attention but the outcome makes the reader to re-evaluate his or her relationships. By welcoming uncertainty, we can overcome our fears and anxiety.
"Depression" is just a word. We've allowed this word to embody what it means when someone is "depressed." He or she is not "depressed" - rather - he or she exhibits behaviors that we now culturally identify as "depressed."
You know when you learn something new and start understanding bits of it, you want to explore where else can it be applied? Well, that seems to be the case for Mel and writing this book.
I'm not saying there isn't a connection between quantum physics and states of our mind, but Mel doesn't connect the dots seamlessly. The connection, if any made, seems like a square peg through a round hole kind of situation.
I really enjoyed this book, even though I am suspicious of the underlying interpretations of science this rests on. Even if you reject those you can accept the ways the author suggests thinking via metaphor and thought experiment... can you live life as if reality hasn't collapsed until you cause it to?
The tentative link between quantum physics and ways to improve are very stretched. Some good content in the book about how to live in uncertainty, dealing with past issues and changing our stories in the present. Overall useful content - but not the first book I would recommend on these subjects that have previously been covered extensively and in-depth with road maps to self-help.
An amazingly thought provoking book that has helped me immensely, drawing together many threads of thinking that I have been circling for some time. Much to chew on, much to learn from. Highly recommended!!
Excellent way of linking science with psychology. Each of us is an integral part of a whole. There is no static being, but continuous becoming. There is no either-or, but endless possibilities. Embrace the uncertainty!
Topics interesting - very interesting - but between being overloaded with anecdotes and the pompous writing style there’s just not much there there to take away beyond wave collapse
Is This An Overview? The way the individual perceives the world depends on currently available information about the world. As discoveries are made that change the understanding of reality, so does how people perceive the world, how they filter information. Changing how they interact, think, and live. In this way, did quantum physics effect psychology. Ideas from quantum physics such as uncertainty and inseparability effect everyday experiences. Quantum physics perceives the universe in a state of uncertainty, which implies a state of pure potentiality. Which informs the core of the Possibility Principle, which is that possibility brings with it more possibility.
The implicit elusiveness of certainty can constrict behavior and bring with it anxiety. Embracing uncertainty gives the individual control over their life by taking up the opportunities life provides. Reconsidering the value of uncertainty is an application of quantum physics, another is inseparability. The mind creates divisions without realizing it. Divisions can be helpful, but often are not. There is synergy between the divided parts, that make them greater as a whole. Fragmented knowledge misses vital information contained in the other parts. A group of people might be composed of individual units, but they are not separable. The way each individual treats others, affects others and oneself. Someone else’s problem, effects oneself. Mistreating others, hurts others and oneself.
Why Embrace Uncertainty? People seek certainty, but can become dependent on the predictable. Seeking certainty can create anxiety, because certainty is often elusive. Seeking certainty can prevent the individual from being present in the moment. Seeking certainty means becoming stuck in the familiar, which means that the individual will miss valuable life opportunities.
People seek uncertainty in compensation for their lives being more certain and predictable. Uncertainty attracts attention and engages the individual. Uncertainty need to permeate life more generally, as uncertainty implies possibility. Changing perception and thinking from fixed to a flow of possibilities. That the individual has the ability to create their own outcomes.
Thoughts create reality, and are a reflection of the past. Changing thoughts means changing how reality is experienced. To let go of previously wrong beliefs, and constraining behaviors. This should be based on positive self-reflection. Reflection that overcomes negative thoughts. There is more to an individual than just experiences, as there is infinite potential. Beliefs inform identity. The individual can learn to rewrite their story. To not confuse beliefs with truth.
How Are Things Indivisible? Indivisibility is another idea from quantum physics. Dichotomy of though, seeing things in contrast with another to differentiate things shapes reality. Looking at the opposition can lead to forgetting about another path, where the oppositions can coexist.
The whole is more than the sum of its part. The parts are connected to a system. Even with knowledge, too much specialization and fragmentations leaves each part without vital information. Reality is more complex and pluralistic than a desired simple solution with clear morals.
The perspective of Indivisible wholeness and participation implies that doing harm to another is a form of self-harm. The brain can microwire itself through neuroplasticity, without the need for drugs. Microwire itself based on how each individual treats another, which effects their own body chemistry. Illusion of separation occurs when thinking that someone else’s problems, especially that of a partner, are separate from the individual’s.
Caveats? This book does not add new understanding to quantum physics or psychology. What this book does is combine them. Enabling a reflection on ideas from a different perspective. Sometimes it can be easier to understand the application of quantum physics to psychology if the reader knows some quantum physics, but that is not necessary.
There are limits to potential change. There are physical, biological, psychological limits to change. Change that is possible also takes time. Individuals needs time to transform themselves.
Some of the references and explanations are culturally specific. Their applications need to adjusted for cultural relevance.
Uncertainty might need to be embraced, but does not mean certainty is valueless. There is value is certainty such as limiting the amount of energy the brain uses to think about the interaction. Enabling more energy to be devoted to more uncertain interactions.
As science is an ongoing trial of limitations, which includes quantum physics. Some observations and comparisons lack scientific rigor. There are many other explanations for the events.
I will re read this book over and over again! So many wonderful insights. Also, I love how he expresses the determent of classical Newtonian thinking and old paradigms on how we view the world and how we view ourselves in the world is out dated and not working. Mel Schwartz does a wonderful job of explaining how quantum mechanics in our everyday lives AND more importantly, offers tools we can use to implement in our lives to create a life we want to experience!
