Great Romance about genetically enhanced humans!

Sure it’s not the first book about people who obtained superpowers by an evil corporation that is altering DNA. However this is a good one. The Executioner, Damien Novak, was their best assassins and he moved over to the good guys team. Now he is protecting Alice Preda.

Alice has had a crush on Damien for quite a while, they go to the same college where he is nearly finished studying to be a Doctor and is always surrounded by women and she is shy and insecure. The story has unexpected thrills and suspense as well as romance jealously and possessiveness between the two main characters. They both have feelings for each other but don’t want to show them.

This is going to be an amazing series. I devoured this book!

I loved this book! WoWZAme, I loved it so much I immediately went to Amazon to look for the sequel. While I was there, I purchased ALL of Ana Calin’s other books. Thank you, Ana. I’m excited to delve into your world of fantasy and paranormal.

Dark Protector is about Damian, a man who has been genetically “upgraded” to be used as a weapon for evil. At some point in his life he decided to switch sides and be a weapon for good. He is tasked with protecting Alice. Her father is ultimately the influence that caused Damian to switch sides, so at first, he feels he is obligated to protect her. Damian is a handsome stranger who is dark and mysterious. Alice finds herself love struck, and Damian finds himself in a situation he cannot control. He is attracted to Alice and he knows she’s attracted to him, but he must keep her safe from evil; including himself.

There are times during the story where I felt a little lost. Like I had missed something; some small clue or sentence that would help clear up my confusion. I re-read a few times to try to find the missing piece. Unfortunately, I never did find it, so I continued reading. Eventually the story caught me up and all was well. I can only attribute this confusion to this book being slightly revised and re-released.

Dark Protector ends on a major cliffhanger. I knew it would, regardless, I was angry about that; only because I couldn’t find the second book in this series to continue reading. My frantic search for the sequel is what prompted me to buy all of Ana’s other books.

I absolutely recommend this book. Just be prepared to go a little crazy at the end when you don’t have the sequel to download and pick up where you left off. I AM PATIENTLY WAITING FOR THE SECOND BOOK IN THE DARK LORDS SERIES. I will not start another book series; I don’t want to have to interrupt one series to continue with another series. But for this one, I would if I had to. Dear Ana, you have caught me with Dark Protector. I look forward to the next book where I’m certain you will continue to WoWZAme! Please hurry!

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

What an AWESOME suspenseful thrilling romance! This novel has everything I look for - great characters, well-written, descriptive and engaging, a thrilling plot, and a slow sensual build between the two main love interests. While Damian is a bit of an ass there's much more to his alpha male persona than first revealed. So many twists and turns and unexpected changes that I just DEVOURED this novel in only a few hours. BURNING with questions I immediately had to read part two.

This book is unputdownable! You'll be sucked in right away and in awe of the author's creative and detailed story line. There's an interesting and complex back story that fuels the characters and their motivations that I thoroughly enjoyed. I've never read anything like this book and I LOVED IT.

The Executioner is a MUST READ and if you're anything like me you'll download the sequel and start right away!

Didn't finish because I had no idea what was going on. Stuff was just happening with scenes changing too suddenly to get a bearing on things. There wasn't very good transition either, one minute we're at a halloween???? party and then the next we're in a train going hiking somewhere in the mountains? I don't know lmao

This was SO good! I loved how it had the whole science thing going on with genetics and how the H and h played like cat and mouse games. All through the book, I wasn’t sure who to trust. Damien was experimented on by a company with his genetics. Now his body has become all it needs to be to live as a perfect human. Or should I say superhuman. He is strong and has muscles like steel. No one can stop him, no jail can hold him. He was created at a young age to be an assasin. Now he has supposedly switched sides and only assasinates the ones who try to create more like him. But the lines blur with the people he aligns himself with. When does the good guy become the bad guy? Alice only knows that he is the guy on campus at her college that everyone wants to know. They are in the Carpatian mountains when their train is derailed and their whole group is stranded in a shack. They now have a target on them. Everyone is sitting ducks. What happens next will make you want to read with the lights on. I loved how this was so suspenseful and creepy yet also so steamy. All throughout, Damian remains a mysterious creature, always lurking in the shadows ready to strike when needed. He is forever saving Alice. Yet he seems cold and distant. The ending was great but also sort of a cliffhanger. We see things take another turn. I hope the next book will give us more answers. For a cliffhanger it had enough to keep me satisfied and a good place to leave off for the next book. I loved the Carpatian setting. It was refreshing after the really hot and humid temps here in southern United States.

While at college, Alice, encouraged by her friends, sets her sights on the muscular jock, Damian. But after a train accident strands them with a group of other people, someone utters the accusation of “executioner,” at Damian. The plot thickens when Alice’s friend reveals a newspaper article from years ago about this “executioner.” How is this possible for a college student?
This book is amazing! The buildup is exciting, the romance is hot, the fantasy is imaginative but realistic enough to keep you involved. This whole series is like no other and if you like paranormal romance this is a must read! You will go through every emotion and then grab for the next in the series as soon as possible!

Well, I loved this.
oo ay, wouldn't I be thrilled to the person who catches Damian's eye, golly gosh, one hot dude.
But alas, it is Alice that has his attention, and no amount of obstacles is keeping him away.
Loved the setting to this story, really liked the characters and thought the pace was just perfect.
Great read.

I happily give this a solid 4.5 - I found it difficult to put down! This a great story around some shady dealings by a powerful corporation and victims of their ruthlessness trying to get justice. The author has good descriptive style without slowing pace and well-written characters. It's full of action and twists and, though gruesome in places, that adds to the thrills. I enjoyed the romantic suspense between Alice and Damian. And Damian, the hunk with dark secrets, I really liked because, apart from his superhuman good looks and physical appeal, I could sense he also has a conscience. The promise of more dangerous passion and yet unexplained secrets is a compelling reason to read the next book!

The Executioner is a romantic suspense and suited to the NA market as the main characters are University aged students. The book is set in Romania. Alice Preda is a student in Constanta. She is attracted to a medical student, Damian Novac and connives with friends to create situations when they will meet.

A trip to the mountains is suggested and Alice hopes to become more acquainted with Damian, it's very cold and there is deep snow. When the train becomes de-railed with little sign of rescue, the group must try to survive. Alice is hurt as they scramble out of the train and wakes to find she's been taken to a cabin. There is a large mixed group from the train and Damian uses his medical skills to revive Alice and warm her body.

The group start drinking the alcohol rescued from the train, but after twenty four hours and no rescue, Damian sets out with two others to find help. A sinister turn of events sets fear amongst the group and when human turns on human, Alice fears for her life.

Once again Alice awakes having been rescues by Damian, but now she is in hospital. Her father and Mother have been called, but now there is a new threat. Rumours of a sinister group and an undercover operation with missing case files throw Alice and her friends into a new battle. Who can they trust, who is lying? Should she trust the Romanian Intelligence services or Damian?

This is book one of a two book series and introduces the reader to a very believable set of circumstances and possibilities from a part of Europe which has been heavily guarded by secrecy for many years.

I got this book as part of a giveaway with a bunch of other romance novels. Out of the five novels that downloaded, this was the only one I read from start to finish.

I started reading this book on Thursday night at around ten. Next thing I knew, I was up at midnight trying to figure out what happened next. (I was exhausted at work the next day, but that's another story, haha!)

This book has a good mix of romance and suspense. I hate how a lot of romance novels have weak plots and stale, stereotyped characters. This book does none of that. Alice was a great protagonist and I found her to be super relatable--especially at the beginning when she had a huge crush on Damian and was trying to impress him. The plot was interesting too and I like how it was set in Romania too. It was fun to see Alice's and Damian's relationship progress throughout the story.

I would recommend this book to those who like a good romance with plots and characters.

The Executioner is the Olympic Luge of mystery romance stories. Ana Calin takes you at a breakneck pace through the story with twists and turns, action and drama, longing and heartbreak at every turn of the page. Alice has a thing for the strong, silent, and heroic type but there is something about Damien and more than a few people are lurking around to find out what Damien is keeping secret. An unexpected stranding in a cabin located in the Carpathian Mountains leads to lots of strange and deadly encounters with locals and a deteriorating mental health of the stranded group. Alice refuses to give up her affinity for her crush and this is where Ana thrills the reader with Alice's grit and determination to get through the desperate situation, get her man, and get to the bottom of the mystery. I'm not done yet and neither is Alice.

-I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The Executioner, by Ana Calin, is a romantic suspense about the disturbing details of underworld dealings, as well the twisted romance that blossomed from this world.

Alice Preda had just broken up with her douche of a boyfriend. After going to a party, she meets a mysterious boy who manages to ingrain himself into her life. However, after she and a group of students become stranded at the edge of a mountain, she unwittingly becomes a target of an organ trafficking ring. Soon, she that she can only rely on the same, monstrous boy for protection.

Daman is a genetically engineered assassin who manages to carry out orders without fail. He is assigned to protect Alice Preda from the very people who to use her as a pawn. But little does he know, he becomes captivated by her beauty, and falls for her. Still, enemies lurk near, and it’s up to Daman to protect Alice, no matter what the cost.

I liked the dynamic between Alice and Daman. To me, Daman reminded me of a black knight that’s used to carrying out the sins of his princess. He was to hide Alice away from the corrupted realities of the world, though in the end he can only do so much to cover up his own past. Meanwhile, Alice is able to keep a level head about things, though she has a temper that can stretch on for miles. It was entertaining, seeing how these characters interacted with one another, and was one of the reasons why I enjoyed the story so much.

Calin builds up a sort of lonely suspense in the solitary setting Alice and Daman live in. It constantly kept me looking at other characters, wondering who was going to betray Alice, or, heaven forbid, who would kill Daman. Not only that, but Alice’s determination to continue living her life without any fear was admirable. It shows that while she does appreciate Daman looking out for her, she is her own being, and she won’t tolerate anyone trying to interfere.

I did wish that Daman’s upbringing was a bit more fleshed out. And while I did enjoy reading about Alice and Daman’s relationship, I felt like it could’ve used more development. It would’ve been interesting for Alice to show Daman the more extraordinary aspects of being a normal person. Though I did find Svetlana unlikeable, I felt like she could’ve added more to the story, rather than just play the role of the woman scorned.

Nevertheless, I did enjoy the story. Alice and Daman’s relationship was interesting, as was the world Calin created. Although I did want more details in other characters, the book captured my attention and mind. Thus, I would give this book a rating of a 3.6 out of 5 stars, and would recommend it to fans of Stephanie Meyer and Ellen Schreiber.

This is my third book by the author and I simply can say, it isn’t my choice of a good book.

The story is very interesting but at times far fetched and the execution lacked for me, again.
It wasn’t a pleasant read because the reading flow was constantly interrupted. By missing words or storyline holes. And then there was the question of in what period the story actually took place. It didn’t make sense for a long time. It was a mix between the Middle Ages and the 21st century. It was confusing until finally the author stated the date herself, thank the book god. But in short, it strongly showed that the world building wasn’t enough.

But I guess the biggest obstacle for me was the female character.
She had such a small minded worldview. Everything revolved around superficial beauty or the lack of it there is.

What started out as a supposed fling to forget her past disappointment and hurt feelings, suddenly and without any real cause besides him ignoring her, turns into a full blown and quite embarrassing obsession. My problem, besides the obvious is, that the author failed to deliver a substantial reason for the main male character to be a love interest besides his title and the hot looks.
And that makes the female character look like an imbecile. Like a teenager having her first crush quickly escalating into stalking the love interest. We mostly are stuck in her head and let me tell you, it was miserable. Influenced by every person around her, depending on what they tell her, she changes her mind wherever the wind blows. And her excursiveness made her loose her credibility.
He is interested in me, he is not, he fucks her, he does not, he is a good guy, he is not, he is a killer and monster, or is he? And this goes on in an endless loop. And the hard truth is, this all takes place in her head leaving the real world behind. Because he ignores her throughout this time and does not even partake in her own private soap opera going on in her small minded world. She acted like a scorned wife on an LSD jealousy trip, although she still tried to get his attention at this point. It was erratic and immature, to put it mildly.

I really wanted to like this book, but it wasn’t possible. Would the author have delivered some mature and interesting characters, a substantial love basis and most importantly let the female character for once take charge and decide for her own instead of the tool used, where the different side characters decided the direction our female character went and what she thought of other people. I wouldn’t have hesitated to pick up the next instalment.

My Thoughts:
I loved the story Ms. Calin has crafted with these characters. It's enthralling and I'm completely invested in them, so I am continuing with The Executioner Part Two.

This unique story is founded in genetics and is about super humans, so in that regard I'd classify it as sci-fi, but it also features the unraveling of a mystery by the heroine, Alice, which gives the book a very sinister, almost Gothic feeling.

There are some language usage differences between American English and that of the setting in the Carpathian Mountains region of Romania, and it can be a bit jarring to decipher the meaning in a few passages, but overall the story is utterly engaging, so it's worth it.

Alice has the hots for one Damian Novac! She watches him at school and gets an opportunity to approach him at a party. She purposely spills wine on him to get him into the bathroom to clean him up. They take a trip and end up in a wrecked train in the deep snow. There is a huge group with others that traipse to a building to stay warm. While there, weird things start occurring! A woman who has been a pain for Alice, is making a move for Damian. At the same time, she makes a move on another then cries rape! The other man turns out to be an investigative journalist who was looking for the truth behind the company BioDhome. As time goes on, they get away from the building, Alice and her friends find her parents and all sorts of problems…scientific, political and even assassin’s. They upgrade humans and Damian is one of them! Turns out, Alice is as well! But, what does that exactly mean? What kind of powers does she have? Now, she is Damian’s only weakness and they will use her against him! Book one ends in a cliff…I received this as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.

This book caught my interest from page one. I was able to read through it in a matter of two to three days. The writing was great, well balanced. I loved the way it flowed and how the plot unfolded. (No Spoilers here, LOL. You have to read it!)

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the whole super human genetics thing, but honestly, I loved it and I can't wait for book two.

When I read romance, I'm pretty particular. I hate books that are chocked full of sex just for the sake of sex, or romance with no plot. Don't get me wrong, sex doesn't bother me. I write sex myself in my books. I felt that this book was the perfect balance of plot and sexy with a spectacularly sexy ending that leads you into the second book. No Cliffhangers here! The story in book one is wrapped up perfectly, leaving open ends for the next book.

Trust me, if you love a good romantic suspense, you won't want to miss this one from this new break out author, Ana Calin. Get it on Amazon here.

This book was absolutely FANTASTIC! I had started reading this story right before I went to bed (I’m never doing this again) and had trouble trying to go to sleep because I wanted to continue so badly! I then started it the very next morning with my coffee and couldn’t put it down. Thank god it was my day off! From the very first page this story will grip you and not let go all the way to the end. The constant action combined with the dangerously sexy chemistry going on between Alice and Damian was the perfect combination. Ana Calin is an author who writes with such adventure, imagination, and wonder. I can’t wait to see what this author does next. This is definitely one author to watch!

A riveting read

This was a super fast-paced book that had me hooked. I'm a big fan of any form of doomed romance and Alice and Damian definitely seem to fit the bill! The only thing i would say is that it maybe moved a little too quickly, especially the first few chapters. But on the whole an engrossing read, and looking forward to continuing the story.

A great start to her Dark Lords series

Alice, college senior, takes one look at Damian, a medical student, one day in the college café and it’s hard for her to look away. As the story progresses things are not always what they seem, a trip becomes dangerous, and nothing will be the same again. Ana Calin’s Dark Protector is a great start to her Dark Lords series. I cannot wait for the next book to come out to see where this goes. However, reader discretion advised due to dark subject matter and/or possible triggers.

I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

I loved this story. It had mystery, action, shady corporations, and a science Mafia. I loved both of Ana and Damian's characters and how they met and ended up together trying to survive it all. The story was interesting and kept me reading in one sitting just to discover the secrets of what was going on and why. It was well written in that I could picture what was happening easily. Just a great story if you like the paranormal with suspense and great characters both major and minor.
