Rate this book
What happens when a good kid gets harassed by a bully and caught in a cycle of lies trying to protect himself? After-school fights, bullying at the ballpark, a visit to the nurse, and clean up duty at the zoo! Caught in a Cycle shows how even one lie can spiral into a dangerous path of more until it gets out of control.

JJ struggles to make good choices while trying to protect his friends from a bully.

• Is it ok to tell a little lie to avoid another problem?

• Is it ok to cover one lie with more lies to avoid a bully?

• What do you do if a bully harasses you or your friend?

• What about those who can’t defend themselves?

JJ knows right from wrong, but sometimes it’s tough when you face difficult choices.

JJ learns valuable lessons as he defends the defenseless and tackles truth head-on.

It's entertaining enough, but I can't believe the zoo would allow children to do any of those chores, for any reason. And bullies most certainly are not going to be allowed if they behaved the way Bo did. Not very realistic fantasy story. Younger kids might enjoy it. Christian families might enjoy the book/ as it has Bible verses at beginning and end.

*thank you to Dog Ear Publishing and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

2 stars.
This was an ok read. The lesson it teaches kids is that when you lie, it might seem innocent enough and feel ok to have done. But one lie quickly turns into another and then another until you are forced to tell the truth and have to deal with the consequences, which are never fun or make it worth having told the lie in the first place. It also address bullying, but not in so much deepth.

I always hate being negative in reviews. But i feel the story didnt really attract me. Maybe it was the writing style, maybe its just me, but it didnt seem to flow quite right. Plus the illustrations arent that good but who am I to judge. They are still so much better than I could have done.

This children's book has its issues deciding what message it is really trying to give. The main theme is bullying is wrong, but it also gets mixed up with telling lies just makes things worse and while set in a zoo doing less that likely jobs make the whole thing difficult for it to give its message clearly and uncluttered by the extras.
A shame really, my daughter enjoyed it but didn't pick up the full message without some reinforcements.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher. and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book.

I am reviewing this book for Amy B Crowe, Dog Ear Publishing, and NetGalley who gave me a copy of their book for an honest review.
Briefly, a child stands up to a bully and tells a lie, which leads to another and another .Not overly impressed with this book. It does show how one lie can easily lead to another and another and eventually consequences have to be faced. Yet there are parts I find unbelievable – would a zoo let ‘naughty’ children do their punishments there! Most zoo’s you have to pay for an experience and why didn’t the school do something about the obvious bullying behaviour.
Some bits of the story did not seem to flow and it seemed to turn into a lesson about different types of bullying at times.
I am not religious in the slightest so the biblical links at the end did not add anything for me.
