Matt and Avery start out very young in this duet that will see them through the tumultuous progression into their adult lives.
They both come from rich elitist family's that are more inclined to eat their young than to raise them.
They begin their lives as preyed upon, captured prisoners with an incredible will to please their family, while also being charged to build a new generation of power and wealth.
At the onset, Matt comes to Avery's rescue, finding a way to aid Avery when she needs him most. He isn't exactly the knight and shining armor type, but when it comes to Avery, he gives her no less than his absolute best, and ultimately his heart.
She breeds pure contempt for him from beginning to end, which only stirs his lust, and enriches his love and devotion for her that won't be denied.

I work as a Financial Analyst and write on the side, but I like to believe it is the other way around because I am always writing stories in my head all day long.

I want to live a Norman Rockefeller type of life in Mayberry and watch re-runs of Donna Reed and I Love Lucy all day.
I love working because it gives me creativity and balance.
Finance is one of the most difficult jobs in the world because you constantly have to tell people bad news about money and basically nobody wants to hear bad news when it comes to money. They only want money to rain from the sky daily and the funnel to never turn off.
I work extremely hard and not for the money. I play extremely hard and that is why I work hard.
I LOVE DISNEY WORLD! It is absolutely my favorite place to be... I would live there if I could afford it and I pray that one day can afford it because I am moving in and I will never leave.

I'm so furious right now that I could set things on fire! Not only did the Prologue leave me hanging, especially since most books lead back up to it, but the ending just dropped me. No hanging over the side of a cliff, just dropped like a bad habit. This is my first foray into Kari Nelson's world, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I know that she drew me into this darkly sick story completely which shows talent, and yet, I go back to just being dropped. Which makes Ms. Nelson added to the list of authors trying to KILL ME DEAD, while being hashtagged forevermore, #EVILWHORE! Avery, oh Avery, not sure if I wanted to hug her or shake her, as there were so many things that happened to her, and she just stood by & kept letting them happen. I swear I would have committed murder after waking up in Italy like that, or soon after. And Matt, such a spoiled little douche, he just let those things keep happening to her. Yeah I get that he loved her, but if he loved her so much, maybe just maybe he should have just protected a bit better. And those twists everywhere have me so jacked up, that I'm still dropping f-bombs. I hope to hell that the next book isn't long in coming, or I will snap. Anyway, still mad as hell so going to end this with HIGHLY RECOMMENDING TO ALL who like having their emotions stuck on their sleeve!

Something That Simple by by Kari Nelson is the First Book in the new "A Duet" series. This is the story of Matt Carter JR and Avery Best.
The tile says "Something That Simple" but this had a lot of layers to their story. Matt and Avery are step brother and sister it seems but they also are attracted to each other. Matt being attracted to Avery when she was in her teens. Avery to had feelings for Matt but due to their parents, age different and step relationship it was taboo . Matt was headed to be the President of the United States so later that would be an issue if they were to have a public relationship. Matt did go through a paper marriage with someone thinking her daughter was his but it turned out it wasn't.
This book is similar to a soap opera with its twist in turns. There is a lot of trigger issues so if you have a preference not to read them this book wouldn't be for you.
Overall and exciting hot story.

Poorly written.
This could have been an amazing book, but it really missed the mark. The writing wasn't the best. It skipped things and would talk about them like we knew they happened. Also, avery is way too accepting of things that happen.
