I fell in love with Jade Shultz in the first New Castle book. She was such a strong, confident, make no apologies kind of girl. And she had been pretty obvious about what she wanted. Jeremy Larson. She’d known him for years and they’d spent a lot of time together since his return from Iraq. Just when it seemed that chemistry might be mutual, something horrific happened and Jade was left broken. To know something happened to completely shake Jade had me more than intrigued.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers but suffice it to say Jade was living in an emotional madhouse. With no memory of the actual event, she did know that it had been unwanted and brutal. Her emotions were all over the place. She felt guilt, wondering if she’d somehow caused it to happen. No matter what she told herself about being an innocent victim, she still felt shame. The pain of it all left her torn between wanting to know what happened and wanting to remain ignorant. In short, she wasn’t herself. Maybe she’d never be herself again. Even though Jeremy made her feel safe and grounded her, she was afraid to tell him until she figured out what happened and learned how to cope. Until she could be normal again. But she couldn’t have normal unless she was honest with Jeremy.
Jeremy had always thought Jade to be a strong, confident woman. He wanted her with an intensity he’d never wanted anyone. But she was hurting and lost, and Jeremy knew he’d do anything to help her. Even if it meant just being there as a friend. I loved that it wasn’t all about him. No hero could solve this. But he could stand by her, be patient, listen, and catch her. I loved Jeremy’s strength, patience, and determination with Jade. He let her move at her own pace but didn’t let her hide from life. Even when unpredictable events unfolded causing more anxiety for Jade, he was there. Together, he helped her to rise above all that had happened and plan for the future. He vowed to always be there to catch her. But when the threats return, will he be able to keep that promise?
What an intriguing, heart wrenching, and suspenseful story. Lydia Michaels spins this tale so perfectly, it’s guaranteed to hook you from the start. It tackles some tough subjects but it’s also peppered with some humorous and lots of romantic moments to lighten the mood. And prepare to feel every emotion right along with Jade. From anguish, disbelief, sadness, fear, and pride, you’ll feel like you’ve ridden an emotional roller coaster when it’s over. The tough and sensitive nature of elements of the story make it painful to read at times. But it’s a beautiful story that blesses the reader with a powerful message of vindication and empowerment. Seeing Jade’s journey and her ability to move on and triumph against great adversity was moving. Regardless of what she endured and the decisions she made in response, she’d never be the same as before. But she could have her happily ever after. She just had to cross some pretty tough circumstances to get there.

I loved the premise of If I Fall and felt parts of it were well executed while other parts, namely the main characters not so much. They both annoyed me several times throughout the book with their actions. However I enjoyed the suspense element and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Jade’s life has taken a not-so-good turn. On what should be the joyous occasion of her best friend’s wedding, everything went sour. Now, she’s simply broken inside. The last thing she should want is Jeremy, the man she’s been in love with for years. And he decides to return her interest now? Sometimes, fate can be tricky.

Jeremy is finally ready to take his chance with Jade. He is well aware how complicated things could be if their relationship fails, but he has decided to risk it. If only he could understand what Jade is so tortured about. Will their love be strong enough to overcome Jade’s demons? Only time will tell.

An interesting book with a premise that is torturous to read about, and yet leaves the reader with a victorious feeling upon its conclusion. Where Jeremy is a compelling character, who is admittedly likeable, Jade is far more complicated. She shows strength in dealing with the mess her life has become, her actions at times are completely incomprehensible. Everything she does and feels stems from the event that changed her so drastically, but it seems she simply lacks common sense or self-preservation. Disregarding her behavior, the book would’ve proven to be a much more satisfying read. The side characters are well drawn and the mystery is well thought out (the identity didn’t come out of the blue, there were indications). All in all, a compelling read that could’ve been truly amazing!

If I Fall, is the second book in the New Castle Series, it is Jade Shultz story. First Comes Love; Jade Shultz is Kat’s best friend who stood by her through her trials and tribulations of teenage pregnancy, the birth of Mia and falling in love with Tyson Adams. Jade was also Kat’s Maid of Honor at her wedding, which is where Jade journey begins.
If I Fall, is batshit crazy, it’s a relevant, emotional and suspenseful love story. Imagine waking up to something horrible but having no recollection of the events that change your life forever. That is just the beginning of this train wreck. As with any rubbernecking you are going to want to read this book in one sitting. Yes, it’s that good.
Lydia Michaels writes about relevant everyday happenings in our society. She has a no holds the bar on issues such as teen pregnancy, date rape, non-traditional family, unrequited love, etc. She might be today’s lesser-known great writers, hope that changes in 2018 and she shows up on all three major sites as a best-selling author.

The very first book I read of Lydia’s was First Comes Love, the first book in this series. I was looking forward to this book for a while and it did NOT disappoint. You can say I have become addicted.
In the first book, we met Jade, who had a vivacious personality and loved with her whole heart. I learned that something happened to her towards the end of First Comes Love. In this novel, we learn all the sorted details.
If I Fall opens up with the morning after the incident. It is gut-clenching imagine any woman having to go through a traumatic event as Jade did and the details of every little nuance really drove it home. As a woman, it tugged on my heart strings how this could happen to her and the reality that it actually does happen in the world. If you think this is the most horrific the story gets, you’re in for an even bigger surprise. Rape? Stalking? Secret society? Crazy plot twist? This book has it all.
Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. Who is it? Who can I trust? I loved the suspense of it all! This ranks up with one of the MUST READS for the year for me. You will not be disappointed.

It is also recommended, but not necessary to read First Comes Love, New Castle County Book 1

Oh my heart!!!

I knew Jade' story was gonna be an emotional one. I just knew it. But I wasn't prepared for all of that. Have Mercy...that was crazy.

Lydia's books never seem to amaze me. I'm never disappointed when I'm done with her works of art. If I'm not absolutely in love with them,  I at least like them. I am always so excited when I get to dive into her worlds.

This one was no different. This one is the one I couldn't wait to read. After reading Kat and Tyson's story, I had to read hers. And now that I'm done hers, I can't wait to read Trenton's.

Jade's story broke my heart, but made me smile and laugh too. The fact that she could get through so much, and still smile at the end, is awe inspiring, and is definitely a story worth reading.

Jade and Jeremy together are AMAZING! At first I was kind sceptical, because ugh hello, that's Kat's baby daddy. But the way they make it work and they way they fit together is something to adore. He loves her beyond her brokenness and she loves him beyond his scars. They for so amazingly together.

This second installment in the New Castle series, If I Fall was definitely a page turner. This was a one sitting read for me as I couldn't walk away from the story. (Ok I did stop to feed my kids)

In this installment we get Jade's story, aka, Kiki who is Kat's bestfriend . We were left wondering at the end of First Comes Love what happened to Jade. The answers are in this story. And it's a rough one. Definitely didn't see such a dramatic shift in story line coming. This story is emotional and definitely full of suspense. Excellent read!

If I Fall is book #2 in the New Castle series. I was definitely wow’d by this book! It was a roller coaster ride from start to finish. There was so much emotion poured into this story! Love, friendship, heart ache, suspense, laughter and drama. I had to put down my kindle a few times. It really pulled at my heart. This is totally unlike book #1 in this series.

“I get that you like everything to be nice and neat, but love’s better than that. It’s spontaneous, passionate, and messy.” Jade Shultz – First Comes Love

We meet Jade Shultz in First Comes Love. She is a successful nurse and has a great job. Jade, aka KiKi, is the outgoing, crazy, fun loving best friend of Kat. And aunt or “KiKi” to Kat’s daughter, Mia. Jade has been there for Kat during many difficult times. The night before Kat’s wedding Jade has a life altering, horrific experience.

Jade awakens with no memory of the previous evening, her world is forever changed.

Initially I was upset at Jade’s reaction but as I read further into the story I began to understand her mind set and how overwhelming it must have been to deal with her situation. My emotions were everywhere. My heart broke for Jade. Lydia Michaels takes us through all of the emotions, ripping my heart out!

Panic sent a spasm of tremors racing up her spine. Every bit of her world was violated – her home, her body, and unquestionably, her mind.

Jeremy Larson has waited a long time to pursue Jade. Jeremy, Jade and Kat have known each other since grade school. He is also the father of Kat’s daughter, Mia. Thinking of his daughter’s happiness, Jeremy decides to not pursue a relationship with Jade until Kat marries Tyson. Even as friends and co-parents, Kat, Tyson, Jade and Jeremy make it work. It’s a crazy situation that just – works.

For months, he fought his desires out of respect for his family, Kat and Mia.

…But his daughter adored Jade and he didn’t want to mislead his impressionable little girl.

Jade’s situation comes with so much baggage. Shame, guilt, fear and an extra added stress (no spoiler). She tries desperately to hold on and keep it together. When Kat and her new husband return from their honeymoon, they find Jade at their house. Disheveled and distraught. She tells them her story. Initially, she is too ashamed to tell Jeremy. When she finally confides in Jeremy she is shocked at his understanding and support. Jade experiences so many emotions. Joy, tragedy, denial, anger and acceptance.

There is still much more to the story. Heart ache, misunderstandings and some suspense. There was one thing that really freaked me out too! (no spoiler). A fantastic read. I felt every emotion put out there. I was surprised to see that Jeremy’s friend, Trent will get a book next. Now that should definitely be interesting! Keep them coming!

This is the second book in the NEW CASTLE series and this is Jade's book . I fell in love with Jade and Jeremy in book one . Jade has flirted and wanted Jeremy since he came back from Iraq. But he has put them in the friends category because of his ex and the daughter that they share . Jade wants more . until the day the worst thing in the world happens to Jade and Jeremy is there to help pick up the pieces and put her back together.
This book starts of in a dark space when the unthinkable happens to Jade . She wakes up and knows something happened but no the extent of what happened . She is trying to keep calm and work through it but there are things that can't be over come so easily . But Jeremy is there and sees the signs of PTSD and is there to let Jade lean on him and help her . I love these two characters . Jade is a strong no nonsense woman but we see her at her weakest and most vulnerable. We see her fight and come back strong with the help of Jeremy . Jeremy is well he is the sweetest guy out there . He wants Jade but is scared that i will wreck everything that he has with his daughter . He is a fighter and hero in my eyes oh and sexy oh so sexy . hehehehehe . You will fall in love with these characters , they are complex and well developed .
This story is about survival and coming out the other side stronger . There are some scenes that might make you squirm a little . The beginning is pretty dark but it pulls you through and out the other side . The ultimate message in this story is one of survival and finding that love that will last a lifetime . The author does a great job telling that story . So if you want a great story that will keep you reading all night long check out IF I FALL

Book 2 of the New Castle series is definitely only for mature readers but may not be suitable for all. Disturbing and difficult, real-life subject matters are a major part of this victim to survivor story, but it’s told very well as Lydia Michaels seems to do again and again. Jade is a nurse, and we met her in Book 1 as Kat’s best friend. On the night before the wedding of Kat and Tyson, Jade is brutally victimized in her own home. Not wanting to spoil the wedding, Jade decides to keep her ordeal a secret but short circuits as she’s about to do a reading on the altar. In steps Jeremy, Kat’s ex and father to Mia, to help Jade get through the ceremony. As Jade is determined to keep her horrific ordeal to herself, she refuses to reveal what’s wrong to anyone. Jeremy and Jade have been fighting their obvious mutual attraction to each other for the better part of a year, and now that Jade must figure out how to get past what happened to her, she’s not sure the timing is right to give in to the attraction. But Jeremy is not giving up on them, and finally, with his help and all of Jade’s friends, she starts the journey toward healing. This story is so deeply emotional, and yet Ms. Michaels found a way to insert some humor as evidenced by the interactions with Jade’s parents. Jeremy’s tenderness and caring for Jade, had me melting, and their chemistry is envious. The curve balls that are thrown in, along with the suspense of who was responsible for Jade’s attack, had me on the edge of my seat and not wanting to put this book down. Another impressive story by Lydia Michaels. I really love her writing.

After the ending in bk.1 I could wait to read Jade’s story.
If I Fall is a very well written book of the journey of a courageous woman.
Jade is a feisty sassy bubbly young lady.
She has the biggest heart and goes out of her way for those she loves.
She loves her job as a nurse and she is doing well financially.
But suddenly she changes drastically.
She’s sad and scared all the time.
Her spunk and passion is gone.
She won’t let anyone in nor confide in those she loves.
Where once she was bold and full of spice she’s now on pins and needles.
Her close friends and her love interest never give up on her.
They are right there fighting with her and for her once she does open up.
It’s beautiful seeing how bonds of friendship and love protect and cocoon Jade.
How Jade herself protects the ones she loves also even with all the heartache that life is dealing her.
She tries to shield her friends and parents from her extreme pain.
I just love this book!
If I Fall is a story about courage, love and friendship.
It’s also about taking back ones power, emboldenment and finding inner strength to get back up and survive.
As in many of this amazing author’s books,If I Fall is full of inspiration even in the depths of despair.
She all ways gives the character and reader the physical and emotional pull to feel the rays of light and sunshine even when the tunnel is pitch black.
If I fall uplifts and fills the dark with hope.
The group of characters are amazing!
They are what true friends encompass and what love is made of!
I voluntarily read an advanced copy

4.5 trigger stars.

triggers

triggers

triggers

dear lawrd triggers.

After reading the first 2 pages of the prologue, I almost had to put this one down. I can read anything and everything people. But this whole book was full of graphic and emotional PTSD and triggers. Please understand that I rarely have a trigger...and even writing this, right now, I feel tightness in my chest.

That being said. I have dealt with my PTSD in a very healthy way and I am so proud of myself in even the fact that I could read and fall in love with EVERYTHING about this book. But seriously people...this is thin ice. It may be beautiful in all ways for me...but it is real for some so...there is your warning.

now.

the juice.

THIS BOOK IS PHENOMENAL!!!!!

not gonna lie, that last three books that I have read from this author wore totally not my favorite. this one...THIS ONE!!!! I was laying in bed and a tear would just fall out of my eye before I even knew I was emotional into a scene. This book is BEYOND WORDS for me. My heart goes to every character that is effected by Jade and what has happened. I couldn't put this one down!...fairly certain I read it in 7 hours(which says a lot considering I had 4 kids under 4 in my home. #accomplished)

I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it...Lydia Michaels is brilliant.

Jade Shultz gets her own story! She's witty, funny, and full of life; until life throws her for a loop. She feels traumatized and very alone in her struggle, and this is an extremely valid depiction of this event in her life.

She's crushed on Jeremy Larson for a while and when he comes back into her life she finds companionship unlike any other she has experienced. Will she be able to trust Jeremy with her issue as she would like to believe, or will he believe her to be weak? Will their shared experiences with this event bring them closer together, or push them apart?

Lydia Michaels' writing is simply beyond compare, and her characters are so in depth its difficult NOT to get wrapped up in their lives. She's gone somewhere others dare not to tread too deeply, and THIS makes it a great book! Without giving too much away I will say that she has done quite well with getting through in words what simply only experience has been able to do for me in the past. It was wonderful to see that someone didn't just gloss over the event, but showed how truly debilitating it can be to go through such a traumatic event.

Wow...just wow. Imagine being a strong, independent woman, mistress of your own destiny, ready to take on the world, and then, through no fault of your own, you're not. You become jumpy, scared, unwilling to trust, and unable to talk the issue over with anyone...and this happens in the first couple of pages of Lydia Michaels newest, If I fall.

This is Jade and Jeremy's story. We met Jade and Jeremy in the first book of Ms. Michaels New Castle series, First Comes Love. There were times when I just wished Jade would open up and let people know why she changed, other times I felt for her and kind of realized WHY she didn't want to open up. Keeping secrets that don't need to be kept and will eventually come out, makes me crazy, but not enough to NOT finish this book.

This book is full of suspense and eventually love. You'll want to keep reading just to see what happens. 4.5 stars since I go crazy when people keep secrets...but...it was a great read!

4.5 stars!

A heartbreaking story of going through the motions after the unthinkable.
Jade is a charismatic, life of the party type of woman, until the morning she wakes up and realizes she’s been sexual assaulted. Something was taken from her. And with no recollection of who, or what, she struggles to hold her head high.
In the previous book, we get a hint of Jade’s undeniable crush on Jeremy. They’ve danced around one another for a year and he’s finally ready to give it a shot and claim her as his. Despite her trauma, she can’t deny how safe she feels with Jeremy. He’s pushing with the intention of finally having Jade but she’s pulling with all the burdens her assaulter has unfortunately has her feeling.
The story has very dark themes. And it was very emotionally written, especially reading the unbearable feelings Jade goes through.
But it’s also a story of overcoming something you never thought you would have to. And, of course, it’s a story about love.

Wow, this book was fantastic. Lydia Michaels knew how to weave through a great plot that had you on the edge of your seat. I love a book with a great suspenseful thrill to it. It keeps it moving quickly and always trains your attention to nothing but the book.

I love reading books that intertwine between books. The characters you left in the first book will appear in the second book and I always love reading more about characters mentioned in other books. We get to read their story as well.

This was a well thought out book full of suspense. This would be a great book turned into film because, no lie, this book will leave you in an emotional spin when you're done.

Another amazing novel by none other than the great Lydia Michaels!

If I Fall ( New Castle Book 2) by Lydia Michaels.

We met Jade in in book one. We knew something bad had happened to her but in this book, we get the details. This book begins the morning after “the incident”. All Jade ever wanted was Jeremy. After what she went through, he is bound to stand by and help her through. Jeremy has always wanted Jade, more than he has ever wanted anyone else. He knows that he has to be her rock and he will do anything to help pull her through the hell that she has and is enduring. When something gets in the way, will he be able to continue to help?
As with every single book this author has written, this book drew me in and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next.

If I Fall by Lydia Michaels was such a lovely read! A story about strength, determination and love that you won’t want to miss!
If I Fall is about Jade Shultz. We met her in the first book in this series but it isn’t necessary to go in order. (Although I highly recommend you do! You won’t want to miss it!!) Jades life is turned upside down all in the events of one evening. Over the next several months she tries so hard to look at the positive things in her life but she just can’t get over the events of that night.
With the help of her friends and boyfriend she learns to fight for the life she deserves.
Such a wonderful book! I’m so thankful I found this author!!!

[[ASIN:B076KNZN1H If I Fall (New Castle Book 2)]]

If I fall picks up where First Comes Love ends, It's a story about Jade and Jeremy, Kat's best friend. Jade story is so real to life with all of the dramatic events that happen. It seem as if it weren't for bad luck she wouldn't have any at all. Jeremy tries his best to protect her every way possible. This book also includes Kat's continuing story which helps tie things all together.Once you pick up this book to read it, trust me you won't want to put it down. Another phi nominal job by Lydia. Make sure the tissues are close by. You will definitely need them, but yes she will make you laugh too.
This is definitely a MUST READ.

EEK! I loved Jade in First Comes Love, she was funny and cute and the perfect best friend. Needless to say I thought her story would be light and happy and fun. Boy was I wrong and yet right, it was heavy and hard to read, but full of hope and love. Jade was fierce and strong and loving, but most of all she was a survivor. Her story was amazing, it didn't go at all how I thought it would but god was it perfect.

And Jeremy was just *swoons*. The perfect alpha male, strong and loving and everything Jade needed when she was going through such a hard time. I loved him and I loved them

Lydia did not disappoint, I'm excited for the next one!

One thing you can always count on when it comes to a Lydia Michaels book is an emotional read that will tug at your heart strings.

The challenges that Jade faced I can’t even fathom. She is truly the ultimate heroine. The strength she has throughout the entire story, even when she was at her lowest, was amazing. Jeremy is absolutely perfect for her. While he has alpha tendencies, he doesn’t hold Jade back, even though he wants to. The twists and turns in this book will have you on the edge of your seat, and will have you sucked in from beginning to end. You definitely want to read this story!!

If I Fall is Jade Shultz & Jeremy Larson’s story. This book is of romantic suspense genre and I love this story!

Jade Shultz has had a terrible year and what a SURVIVOR she is! My heart goes out to her. She has had to survive some very bad things that happen to her. There were times that I wanted to slap her to make her snap out of her self- destruction mode. Jeremy tries to help her but, she makes it hard for him to keep her safe.

I love that we got to see more of Kat, Tyson and Mia. They were all in First Comes Love where we learned that Jade was Kat’s BFF.

I LOVE this book and this series! Lydia really knows how to write books that make you feel that you are there with everything happening around you.

I can’t wait for Trenton Cole’s story!!!!

Page turner? check
Emotional roller coaster? double check
This book was amazing. It's the 2nd in the New Castle Series.
If you can stick with it through all the emotional baggage and figurative car wrecks Jade goes through, this story is worth the heartache. No doubt, Ms. Michaels will destroy your heart with this one, but as the book progresses, she will also piece it back together for you. Well worth the read and looking forward to the next book~

If I Fall- book #2 in New Castle, is definitely a roller coaster of emotions. You really get to know Jade, her character is strong, living along with the happy and fun ( which you are in book #1). You can't help but to feel every emotion, Lydia Michaels has you taking the ride with Jade. Jeremy is the dream God that every woman fantasies about. Once again, Lydia has out done herself with another amazing story that grips you and pulls you in!!

If I Fall is book two of the New Castle series. This is Jade’s story and I fell in love with her in book one. It is a fabulous read but not meant for all (trigger warning for rape). Lydia Michaels tackles a difficult subject and executes a well written and thoughtful story. I was screaming NO to a lot of the decisions that the main character made. The advice given by the therapist was wonderful and the story came together beautifully.

If is right.

This book was sometimes hard to read. I mean what Jade wenT through and the emotions and teams of her experience she dealt with takes alot of courage. Jeremy I found amazing because he never gave up on her either and was there for her. What a powerful, emotional book. I just love the characters and how it all unfolded. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I couldn't put this book down. it was emotionally gut wrenching for me. it brought me to tears but also showed me the true meaning of strength and how to overcome bad and horrible situations. It also was a beautiful love story I love how Lydia writes her love stories they are just always beautifully written and I just devoured this book and I highly recommend this book to everyone!

Not at all what I expected of Jade’s book which just made it that much better. Once again dealing with mainstream issues which with this one could trigger some people but for me it was written very well. Real honest and all the feelings. Can’t wait to start the next one. Really hoping it tells me more about Lilly

I feel in love with Jade in the previous book. I love how independent and strong willed she was. I also love how she was always there for her best friend no matter what.

I truly loved this book from start to finish(it was a little longer than I typically like to read) but it was definitely worth the time it took me to read!

I am really excited to start the next book in the series
