Childhood Friends Reunite to Rendezvous!

All giggles and wiggles, Lisa and Amy sealed their friendship under the pink ruffles of a canopy bed, promising to be friends forever. They remained inseparable until an argument over Lisa’s prom date divides them. In a plan that could only be devised by their heavenly Father, Amy and Lisa end up in the same hospital emergency room years later. With their promise to always be there for each other unexpectedly fulfilled, the two friends grow close again. Amy reminds Lisa of one of their childhood promises yet to be realized—their plan to rendezvous in Paris. Amy and Lisa find a way to make good on their Parisian promise from thirty years ago and pack their bags for the adventure of a lifetime. From becoming unexpected counselors for a rocky marriage to scaling the Eiffel Tower to winking at Mona Lisa in the Louvre, these two Sisterchicks find the treasures of Europe can’t compare with the gems of a friendship renewed for eternity!

Story Behind the Book

“Each of the Sisterchicks books portrays the reality of how a close friendship between two women can draw them closer to God, and reveal clear direction for their futures. In Sisterchicks Say Ooh-La-La! , readers discover the value of rekindling an old friendship and replacing old, incorrect assumptions with new truth. I hope readers will take away a sense of God’s immense plan for His children and His unending grace in every season of life.”

I love these Sisterchicks books....no romance, just good, encouraging girlfriend times as they love on each other and help each other to grow as people and in their relationship with Jesus. Light reading, and yet deep points for you to take in if you would like.

Two childhood friends, both now married, live out a childhood commitment to go to Paris together one day.

This book starts out with a neat version of Romans 8:14-16: God's Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go! This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It's adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike, "What's next, Papa?" God's Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children.

Some of the themes in this book are:
God pursuing you....to have a love-relationship with you
God as our Papa
Hiding from God....what am I afraid of?
False shame
"Grace upon Grace"
God's desire for ME...not my perfect actions

I think that this is my favorite of all the Sisterchicks books so far. I really connected with it and found truth and healing in the dialog.

Amy: Papa, you know everything. You know where our suitcases are right now and you know that taxi drivers even if he doesn’t know you.
I never had a relationship with my earthly father, so it always was difficult for me to picture my Heavenly Fatheras being there for me or wanting to love me. But when I saw God as my Papa, I felt I could trust Him and trust Him and come close to Himany time and He would never desert me.

204 If God was the True Artist, creating all of us and this world filled with intricate details, what was He thinking? What was He feeling? What was He trying to express? What does He carve away from us to release what He put inside?
He was thinking He wanted us.
He says over and over in the BibleHe wants us to be in a restoratives relationship with Him.
205 Mona Lisa was stuck where she was and so was I.
220 about the rejection she experienced in Paris in her 20s: I’d given him the freshest, most vulnerable and eternal part of me and he had rejected it. I’m not sure I ever gave that part of myself away entirely again. Not even to my wonderful husband.
225 He acted cowardly , not me. There was no shame in falling in love. It wasn’t my fault.
Everything you hoped for in a lasting love was possible- just not with him. You placed your hope in the wrong person. The only one who will never leave you and never disappoint you is the One who made you, God. There a big difference between knowing God and opening yourself up to Him so you can really know him.
232 Adam & Eve hid in the bushes because the were afraid- what were they afraid of?
239 what Amy told the artist at Momarte
I told him his work showed the depth of his pain.
259 Donttakethis the wrong way, but you are my flying buttress. You’re there to keep the roof on and keep my walls from crumbling down. Thanks.
263 After watching a little girl hide from her Father in the cathedral: I knew why Eve hid. Both even and I were afraid of God. Afraid to see his expression of disappointment and displeasure. For Eve, it would have been the first time she saw that expression on her creator’s face. Is that what I believed all these years? That God is disappointed by me or disgusted by me? All those years I believe a lie. God wasn’t mad at me. his anger was momentary, but his loving kindness towards me was forever. God wanted me I always thought I had to prove to God what a good person I was so he wouldn’t be angry. That’s why I try to work everything out on my own I thought I was supposed to be an a student and make God proud of me for doing everything as correctly as I could , yet now I saw the truth. He didn’t want my stacks of will done homework or report on my commendable behavior. He just wanted me now grace upon grace I’m here I whispered picturing myself as a frightened little girl we’ve been hiding for too long in that moment, I stepped out of hiding. The deepest, most timid part of my spirit told God I was sorry. Sorry that I had held back from opening up my heart to him. Sorry that I had spent so many years hiding , but my lengthy confession was cut short. All I could think of, and all my senses could feel his lightness. He was lifting me, drive me closer and closer. I was in his arms, but very play so long to be, and never felt I was good enough to go , all these years I thought you would reject me too if I opened up to you like this. But father God, you have never left never rejected me that this is what you wanted and wanted all along. Isn’t it not my Sterling behavior but this is closeness. I know why eve hood I’m not afraid anymore. God wants me God wants me.
What does God want me to be free from? What does that look like in my life?
Lisa’s longtime view of God requires perfection from us was shaped by her mother’s judgment of her. Have you known Christians with a judgmental attitude? How did they affect you? How do you think their attitude affects their own lives?

Paris is overhyped, and it was a bit weird to read about two ladies who are twice my age (44, while I’m 24), but this book reminded me of things I learned from French class. Their adventure also reminded me about the importance of faith, friendship, and conquering fears (whether it’s fear of returning to a place where a previous partner broke your heart or fear of going to the top of the Eiffel Tower).
......................

“I look back now and realize that the gift of a true friend is that she sees you not the way you see yourself or the way others see you. A true friend sees who you are inside and who you can become” (21).

“The irony was that even though I was the one who gave Amy her first Bible, she was the one who continually gave me the Bible back to me every time the truths of God’s Word came springing out in her life like a fountain of fresh water. Whenever they did, I drank deeply, unaware until that moment how desperately thirsty I was” (96).

“‘Lisa, listen to me. Everything you hoped for in lasting love is possible. It just wasn’t possible with Gerard. Everything you felt was true. Don’t disregard the depth of your emotions. You placed your hope on the wrong person, that’s all.’ // ‘I know. I should have saved my emotions for Joel. Then I could have given him my whole heart without all the scars.’ // ‘No.’ Amy’s eyes widened. ‘That’s not what I meant. I was trying to say that the only One who will never leave you and never disappoint you is the One who made you. God. He’s the only One who can fill the depths of our hearts. When I realized that my sophomore year of college, it…well, I’ve told you before. It changed everything. Lisa, there’s a big difference between knowing about God and opening yourself up to Him so you can really know Him’” (226).

I am enjoying this series so much!

Lisa and Amy have been friends since grade school. Amy asked Lisa to promise her a lot, including going to Paris together.

Well, life goes on, and they did not meet again until Amy had a baby in the hospital. They renewed their strong friendship.

Lisa told Amy she had already been to Paris and never wanted to go back. Amy knew the reason but did not press Lisa for details.

Amy had a fear of heights and had to overcome that fear on this trip. Lisa also had fears. They opened up to each other and their friendship grew stronger than ever.

Such a fun and lighthearted read. Best friends go to France together. They share their hearts with each other and catch up with what was missed while they were apart for some years.

The author always knows how to weave God's grace into her stories. This great book is no exception. I love that I can count on her books to be just what I need to boost my faith.

Quick read. Cute book but honestly I didn't find too much to it.
What I did like:
-Sisters reconnecting after many years and becoming friends again
-Sisters supporting each other

What I didn't like:
-The characters did strange things that I'm not sure real people would do.
-It's also rooted in Christianity and I just found it odd how things were pulled together.

This book was like a love letter to me from God. No one else will even get this b/c it's just something God has been talking to me about lately but the way RJG talked about Papa God and how much He just wants us to sit in his lap was a gift to me.

God knows when I need to read these and always speaks to me.

Really good reading. I enjoyed the reality of friendships ending and the ray of sunshine showing those same friendships can be renewed. The fact that her faith was strong and prevalent was refreshing as well. I felt like I was indulging in Paris with them!

The Sisterchicks series is kind of your standard Christian chick-lit. This book focuses a lot on weight loss and what felt like an unreasonable amount of grief over a past event that ended up being not really that big of a deal. A quick, light read, but not really much to take out of it.

This book started out slow and I almost gave up on it, but stuck it out and glad I did. Great story of friends (sister chicks) going to Paris and not only touring the city, but each overcoming and becoming the woman they were meant to be.

Ah, such a delightful, vicariously delicious journey of a book. Humorous, touching, and leaving me wanting a lifelong friend to travel with like Amy. RJG is SO good at making her locations come to life, as well as poetically illustrating the Father's love for His children.

Light read with fairly likable characters, but the story fell flat inverter the didactic God sections.

Took me forever to finish this. No fault to the book. Life happens, stress happens, not wanting to read happens. However, once I got into it, it was a very good book!.

C’est magnifique!

SISTERCHICK n.: a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you’re being a brat.

When they were little girls, Amy made Lisa promise her that someday they’d go to Paris and walk down the Champs-Elysées together looking tres chic. After all, Amy’s classy grandmother was from Paris. Then over the years, they drifted apart. But some promises seem to be held for safekeeping in the courts of heaven until the time is right, and these reconnected friends-for-life are handed the opportunity to see Paris together! Lisa’s only response to her patient friend is, “Oui oui, mon ami!”

The City of Lights turns out to be all Amy ever promised, with world-class shopping, flaky croissants, the Eiffel Tower, Monet’s Water Lilies, and food running the gamut from frog legs to fabulous chocolate. Of course, there are also con men, indignant waiters, and spring cloudbursts. But nothing deters these Sisterchicks as they set out to climb a few personal “ Eiffel Towers” in this next season of life. The only way to go is step by step together under the careful protection of their Heavenly Papa, who showers them with grace upon grace.

I started this book as an audio book. I couldn't follow the story with the audio version. I am hearing impaired & so I do not do audio. I remembered 4 things from the audio version. The audio version was choppy & having read the other Sisterchick books, I knew this was better

Lisa & Amy reconnect in a hospital ER but I didn't hear how long it had been. Amy is having a baby & I thought Lisa was there with her little boy. In reading the book, I found Lisa is there with her current boyfriend who accidentally slit his wrist helping her open a box. I could relate, my son accidentally stabbed himself in the chest & just missed his heart when he was opening a paring knife well encased in plastic. Luckily our ER doctor, a family friend, believed him.

Lisa gave Amy her first Bible for her 10th birthday. I remembered this, or caught this, because Lisa was embarrassed. A Bible is not a gift a little girl would think of to give a friend.

Amy & Lisa go to Paris & their luggage is stolen. It never makes it out of the taxi. Amy prays that their luggage will be returned & it is. Something I would do, but I don't know if I'd have the faith to believe it would actually be returned.

The next thing I remember is Lisa throws up in Amy's shoe & they take off for a shoe store with Amy in stocking feet. The store closes at 5 & it is already 4:30.

I wanted to know if they finally conquered their fear of the Eiffel Tower or if there was even fear of it. I just keep hearing about the Eiffel Tower.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book & having it make sense. I borrowed it as an inter-library loan. Our library doesn't have Sisterchicks.

I love the sisterchick series. They aren't "high literature", but they are fun, interesting and highly readable. I love the relationships expressed in them, the journey the characters go through, the expression of faith, and the travel. The women are strong interesting women who are fearless. I love that they are "destination" books--always with interesting details and experiences about the location. I've been to Paris and this book read true of my experience--making me appreciate the other books more. Robin includes details of the locale that make it a personal experience.

This story wss cute. Their experiences in Paris were funny--especially the urping in the shoe. When you read this story you want a friendship like they have--one that is non-judging, loving you who you are and where you are but loving you into a better you. I highly recommend these books.
