Ruby Blaylock (aka Jessica B. Woods) grew up in a small, southern town surrounded by colorful characters and lots of food. She loves a good helping of gossip and great food, not necessarily in that order. She is a country girl at heart and can often be found sitting on the back porch, sipping sweet tea and watching her fat hound dogs chase bugs.

If she's not reading a book, she's writing one, or reading one to her kids, who can always help her think up new ways to kill off annoying characters.

A Samhain short story. I liked the general story but I didn't like the main characters much. They all seemed too something. Too angry, too mild, too...

Witch or Treat: A Collection of Paranormal Cozy Shorts - Ooops, I waited to long to read this collection and now it's not available on Amazon. Oh well, this is a good set of short stories, most of which can be read without having read the previous books in their series. There was one that this doesn't apply. One is gosh-awful. I was introduced to several unknown authors, but I got this for the authors I enjoy reading: Regina and Lynn, Joynell, D. S. and Ruby. Now I have more authors that I would like to read again. All the shorts have a summary, which I appreciate knowing about a story before I read it. Some of these are spoilers (part of a series) and some aren't. Most books needed minor editing.

Nikki Haverstock, The Case of the Exploding Luck Pumpkin - My first story by this author. I found it funny, entertaining, but I kept seeing Vin Diesel as the Vin Mage), and interesting with good sexual tension. 4*

Danielle Garrett, Cats, Bats, and Talking Hats - My first story by this author. I found it not to my liking. There were continuous references to previous stories without details explaining them. This story fits between the first two books of the Beechwood Harbor Magic series. 3*

Regina Welling and Erin Lynn, One Spell of A Night - I enjoy what I've read so far by these two ladies. This book follows No Chance in Spell. I found it interesting, fast paced and intriguing, and the characters are likable. 4*

Sonia Parin, 'tis the Season to be Creepy - My first story by this author. I found it funny and interesting. The communication is different. Luna is likable. I'll be reading more by Ms. Parin. 4*

Joynell Schultz, The Supernatural Life of a Superhero Wife - I enjoy reading anything by Ms. Schultz. Although I don't care for the superhero genre, I found this story to be funny, cute and entertaining, with a perfectly matched pair of characters. 4*

Ani Gonzalez, The Mystery of the Halloween Mask - My first story by this author, I think, although I found the store very familiar? I found it a funny, entertaining, fast paced and quickly read story. 4*

Cate Lawley, How to Date a Witch - My first story by this author. I found it well written and interesting, and it had good characters, I like Ben the best. The story wasn't ruined by not knowing the Vegan Vamp world. 4*

Ruby Blaylock, Hexing the Ex - I enjoy reading stories by Ms. Blaylock. I found this story interesting, fast paced and well written, with good characters. 4*

Amanda A. Allen, Costumes and Cauldrons - My first story by this author. I found it interesting and the characters likable. 4*

D. S. Butler, Harper Grant and the Poisoned Pumpkin Pie - I enjoyed reading some of the Harper Grant series and this was no exception. This is a short story filled with humor, magic and laughs. This time there isn't a murder, but there's an investigation that gets stopped when a big investigation happens. Harper uses a little magic and wonders if her magic caused the poisoning. Good for a coffee break or a little down time; very relaxing. Still clean. 4*

Ava Mallory, Witches & Stitches - My first story by this author. I found it hilarious, a bit intriguing and lots of fun to read. 4*

Pearl Goodfellow, GoB (Game of Bones) - My first story by this author. I found it rather stupid and in major need of editing. They're locked in a room and know the murder will be back with another can of neurotoxin, so they stand around gabbing, instead of blocking the faceplate. At least the cats are cool, when the writer isn't making them stupid. 3*

Karny McFlynn, Howling Ian - My first story by this author and I don't care for her writing style. The part with envelope was ridiculous and confusing from there on. Skimming to find the end, I discovered an incomplete story, but not a cliffhanger since the story doesn't have any intrigue or suspense. 1*

Tegan Maher, Bubble, Bubble, Here Comes Trouble - My first story by this author. I found it interesting, funny, entertaining with a touch of intrigue. The characters are likable. 4*

April Aasheim, A Dark Root Samhain - My first story by this author. I found it interesting, simple and a quick read. The characters are likable. 3*

A laugh out loud short story which seemed like a novella since it was so well written you didn't feel cheated. The Hedgewood sisters, all witches with special abilities are as different as they are the same. Ree has a temper and can make things happen without really even realizing it! Twyla is more subdued and non-confrontational with a 6 year old daughter and Sissy who is not afraid to confront someone when she deems it necessary. When the 3 sisters go to the local grocery store, Ree runs into her ex-boyfriend, Drew who ran out on her in the middle of the night and took her dog too. To say she lost it is an understatement yelling and throwing threats at him before her sisters could grab her and get her out to the car! When Drew turns up dead and finds his ghost attached to Ree, you are treated to a laugh out loud dilemma. The first suspect to Drew's death is either an allergic reaction or Ree did him in! When Hank, who has been dating Twyla shows up at their house asking Ree to go to the police station to answer some questions, the sisters bond together and decide they have to find out who killed Drew so he can become unstuck to Ree and cross over. With lots of twists and turns will they be able to figure it out before Samhain when crossing over would be easier or will Ree be stuck with Drew literally attached? This is a laugh out loud short story that leaves you wanting more from the sisters. I love this series and can't wait to see the next Hedgewood sister adventure! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

The Hedgewood sisters are totally fun. You never know what is going to happen next. Their abilities are amazing. Ree, Twyla and Sissy each have a special gift. You will enjoy the antics and situations they find themselves in, and laugh at their reactions to the situations. If you are looking for a fun and entertaining book, this is it. Especially love the ability to talk to animals, we all could use that ability.

Three witch sisters, one with a cheating ex, and that ex have a grocery store confrontation. It isn't pretty and ends with ugly threats. When the ex turns up murdered the next day. his ghost is attached to his witch ex-girlfriend. Even though he was a jerk, nobody wants him stuck on earth. So the sister go about solving his murder in hopes he will be able to leave. But will it even be possible?
A very short supernatural story with some giggles, but with an understandably rushed feeling.

This was a good Hallowe'en mystery with Ree Hedgewood getting into trouble with an ex-boyfriend who ends up dead and his ghost appears to her. Can she and her sisters figure out how Drew died and get Ree out of trouble before Hallowe'en is over? Now I would like to read the first two books in this series as I really enjoyed this short read.

Terrific

This mystery short was amazingly good. Without much room to achieve it, the story was intriguing, had some twist, and surprised me in the end. Recommended!
