I read parts of this book many years ago and just recently found it on my bookshelf. After all these years, I still remember several of the stories listed in the “Daughters of Strength” section. My favorite stories that I found most memorable and inspiring were: “Mother Of The Allegheny Settlement”; “Tried By Fire”; and “Guardian Of The Mohawk Valley.” I’ll never forget the Mother of the Allegheny Settlement story. No spoilers but as a mother of a toddler, she was incredibly brave in the face of a family of snakes. Would recommend this book if you are interested in history and growing in Godly, strong womanhood.

This is a great book for history lovers!!! I enjoyed reading about courageous women in history. I think that every young lady should appreciate the history of the world and especially that of the United States. In today's day and age we have everything so easy and right there as soon as we want it. Take a step back with this book and see the struggles that women in the past had to go through!

I was SO apprehensive about reading this book at first! The image on the front is pretty misleading is it gives the impression of ladies with tea-party lives and frilly poofy dresses picking flowers for a living.

Was I in for a surprise!

Instead this book was about the strongest, most daring women in history.

My favorite was the one whose husband went off on a hunting trip and disappeared. One after another she sent her sons to find him. One after another THEY didn't return. She knew it was indians. Make a long story short, the indians ended up surrounding her home... she preceded to act like the one at her front door was her husband, so she told him to put his ear up to the hole in the door saying she "had a secret to tell him about the indians". He did so and instead of a secret in his ear... a bullet instead. She saved her remaining family members.

This book has such amazing stories of the courage and faith of women in history. It really showed me how we can be heroines in God's eyes and that is what really matters. These women are such wonderful role models because they are always striving to be like Jesus, our ultimate role model in life. Really good book!!!

I really enjoyed reading about strong courageous women. Women who stood up for what they believed in. Women who loved their families, and were willing to sacrifice everything for the ones they loved (God included). These women are not your modern feminist, these were women of virtue, who loved their families and above all, loved God.

I really liked this book. I think it was more written for younger girls but I simply enjoyed it and it encouraged me a lot. I can't wait to be able to read it to my girls someday if the Lord permits me to have children.

Read this more times than I can count. Fabulous stories of women who had courage and dignity while conquering hardships alongside their husbands, as widows and even as single women.
