I love this genre, and for some reason had not picked up this series until 2 weeks ago. Yes I read that fast, especially if I am totally involved in the plot and fascinated with the characters. Howie, Dave, and the pack are fun to be with, lots of zombie action, but the humor never stops. Humor is used to protect the mind, worked as an ER nurse and I know people would never unde try and the humor used in treatment rooms to keep us sane. R.R. Haywood does and this storyline is exciting, not predictable, it doesn't get old. Each new book gives more information and more twists! Start at day one, you won't be disappointed! Hats off to this amazing author. This series is now one of my favorite! Loved the clues at the end. Cannot wait for the next one! Just have to say, all this so Cassie can be happy, not is she a selfish one!
I would absolutely recommend reading the previous books in the series but you wouldn't be disappointed if you went straight into this and then decided to read from the beginning. Haywood's writing continues to delight in a multi sensory way, with clever dialogue and believable characters. Even if you're not a zombie fan, there's plenty to enjoy, especially if you're a fan of dark humour. This series appeals to a diverse readership and has a loyal fan base.
If I was stranded on an island with only one series to choose...
Please keep them coming. The depth and interconnectedness of characters continues to thicken and progress. I cant really describe how captivating this series is...and I've got to say I absolutely loved the "origin" touch at the end. CANT WAIT FOR 23
22 books one after the other. Late nights. Early mornings... well mornings. We have come to this no more books. I am both saddened by the lack of book 23 and the fact I am out of whisky.
Just when I thought this series couldn't get any better, Haywood brings out part 22. As usual you will be crying with laughter. Meet new people and say hello to old friends as the fight heats up.
Absolutely fantastic instalment to the series, a lot of things slot into place when reading this one but still leaves you begging for more, all time favourite series and can not recommend enough
I have never been so involved and for so long with a book series before and still finding it truly exciting!! The bit in that 'very secure building' was hysterical....poor Dave! So exciting for some of the previously unreleased pieces of the story to make you say "oh rightttt!" out loud on a bus. Wish the team weren't so 'fattist'. We're not all lazy, greedy and stupid, guys! Still creeped out by that kid....shudder! Like the new team members, especially Danny, awww! ...I'll adopt him, though I'd probably have to fight Paula.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me listen to this audio book
i have to say for the first 40% i found it very slow and a little bit tedious....there is only so many times you can hear about different people shopping and buying apples that have a peculiar taste
then when the action did start i did enjoy it.... but that beginning would have put me off... luckily i was a captive audience at work with nothing else to listen to ....
saying that though when the action did start i was impressed and eager to listen to more....
I love this series. R.R. Haywood has done an amazing job with this series. Brilliant storyline with characters you would want along side you in a zombie apocalypse. This is a fast paced series with twist and turns. The interaction with the characters is too notch. Please do yourself a favor and start reading this series today.
The books in this series get better and better. If you've gotten this far then I guess you are just as invested on these amazing characters as I am! RR Haywood has created something very special with The undead. Where else can you find such realistic characters, brilliant zombies, blood, guts and hilarious humour? This book has it all. Its a rollercoaster ride of emotions. So many questions are answered here but as usual there are more we'll have to wait for. I can't wait for the next installment.
I was excited to get back to familiar characters and back into their universe of heroics. This book is so much more than a continuation, it feels like the threshold to a beginning rather than the 22nd in the series. A fresh new story with beloved characters and new perspectives. Haywood's writing just becomes more complex and refined with each new release. Very satisfying while it still leaves you starving for more.
Each book gets more complex and more tightly woven. Story telling at its absolute best. The characters come to life on the page and No one would ever see each twist and turn coming. Will make you laugh and then cry, then feel everything in between.
What can I say but yet another fantastic book from the mind of R R Haywood. If ...like me you've followed all the undead series you will be happy to see the introduction of some new characters and the catching up with some old ones! Hurry up with the next book !
I loved this! couldn't stop reading, I didn't want it to end .I loved that we saw it from people's view and that Howie's dad is involved in it too ,I can't wait to see how that turns out,so looking forward to the next instalment
I seriously couldn't love a book series more than I love this one! I've become so emotionally invested in every single character, that I feel like we've become family.
I read this series straight through in about 2 weeks. And OMG it's awesome. I feel like I actually know these characters in real life. I can't wait for the next books in this series.
After listening to these books all in the space of 4 weeks it has been interesting to see the development of R.R Haywood as an author. The later books were far better written and added layers of suspense, depth of character and had more of a polished feel to them (if that makes sense?) it's as though the book was forcing you to keep listening....just 10 more minutes...bugger! ok just another 10 more minutes which wasn't as strong an urge in the earlier books and is a testament to the authors development which sounds patronising but it really isn't intended in that way.
"the fort" was a nice break from the Howie brigade and i enjoyed the subplot, Tommy (or Brexiteer Tommy as i was calling him) was a great addition because you could just imagine something like that happening. the idea of a Utopian, lets all sit around the fire singing cum-bi-yah scenario just wouldn't happen as long as there are people like Tommy and Pam.
Really looking forward to the next installment and the clear nod's to the earlier books mentioned in the story (armored van guy) are welcome and i hope to see a lot more of those, wouldn't it be fantastic to have a story line of someone who goes to pick up a family member and when they get there there is just a pile of bodies, their young child and a great big German shepherd, they grab the child and head off to find a safe haven (perhaps a good way of introducing the second settlement that Lilly bumped into at the docks) - nod's like this to previous books are excellent and really enjoyable for people like me who have gone through the entire series.

I really liked learning a bit more about Gregori in this book. He's always been mysterious and quiet but after a run in with people he knew before The Infection, a bit more was revealed.
The author did a good job of making me feel frustrated alongside the characters. It was easy to understand their need for action.
I'm glad that the characters finally started to discuss The Infection in detail. Some of the questions I have had since the first book were finally answered.
The last 10% or so was very surprising. At first I thought the new POVs were just old men and how they dealt with the outbreak but they were actually involved with The Infection in a way and I liked the twist about Howie's dad. It explains why he's immune and I have some other suspicions about Dave and how he ended up working in Tesco with Howie.
I did find it odd that Cass was so eager to help the Boy/The Infection and try to kill Howie and his team.
The ending was good and it made me so curious about Kyle. I knew there was more to him and I think it will all be revealed in the next book.
I think not! I can’t believe it.. what happened to Howard Sr? The ugly man, the god botherer, Dave and many others all of a sudden appear more than they are..I had no idea.. I think we are finally getting to the bottom of what or why the virus or panacea happened! And I wonder if phase 2 will happen? I know I’m cryptic but you have to read it to know what I mean! This is the best zombie story I’ve read in a looong time! Funny, sad, intelligent, mysterious, twisty, full of adventure, fighting and Willy jokes...
This was alright, I liked the sentient zombie theme. I knew it was part of a series when I went in but it seemed to make sense without reading any of the others, so that was good (although I wouldn't have knocked stars if it wasn't because it was my choice to choose this one). I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be YA or not, but I assume it's not which I'm glad about because I don't personally enjoy the former.
Anyway, I feel like reading the others now, so that's great. Thanks Haywood for making my tbr pile even longer! XD
Wow! This series is so addictive. If you have made it this far in the series you will understand a little how this adventure is weaved. So many questions and concern as to where it goes now. Trying not to give away too much but one has to wonder if this direction is where it was going from the start. If it was, I bow and give respect to R.R. Haywood. Is there any news on the next book. I never want it to stop.
Number 22 has just been reread,so now all ready for 23 what can I say about this book and in fact the whole series ? If you haven't read it and you're bizarrely reading this review, sort yourself out and read a truly remarkable, funny, sad, fast paced series of books, a British author whose creative and more importantly he's approachable and a downright good chap, support him.
The Undead: Part 22 by R. R. Haywood and Narrated by Joe Jameson was an excellent audiobook, especially as it gripped me from the start and bought back memories of working at Tesco on nights helping out on f and v department. You meet so many différent Character's when you work nights! Lol.
I highly recommend this author, especially as he is a new author to me, and I will be looking out and reading more fr9m him. A fascinating audiobook.
This series has gone from strength to strength , I’m laughing , I’m crying , I’m holding my breath , I’m scared to turn the page !!! I’m frightened and amazed at what comes next all the time !! Also I’m now anxious , what am I going to do without these guys ? I know I’m nearing the end !!
