The USA TODAY bestselling author of the Paladin series returns with this sexy, original title featuring a man discovering the paranormal world of the paladins.
Dying hurts…but not as much as living.
Eli is lucky to survive the helicopter crash that killed the rest of the passengers. But when he notices his wounds healing before his eyes, it seems like his survival may have come from more than luck.
Safara knows what Eli does not—Eli is a paladin, a mortal enemy of someone like Safara, someone from Kalithia.
Still, after Eli saves Safara’s life, and Safara introduces Eli to a whole new world, they just can’t seem to treat each other as enemies.
Alexis Morgan grew up near St. Louis and received a B.A. in English from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She and her husband have made the Pacific Northwest their home for more than thirty years, where she launched her career as a writer. She is published in paranormal romance, fantasy romance, American West historicals, and most recently, contemporary romances with her new Snowberry Creek series.
I picked up the at a used book store long before I had a kindle. I was hooked. I've enjoyed every book in the Paladins of Darkness series. There is just the right amount of suspense, sex and story.
I was so happy to find this new spin off series. I thought this book was excellent. Eli is in the Army and dies in a helicopter accident but he doesn't stay dead. Having no clue that he is a Paladin, he leaves the scene of the crash to regroup at his grandfather's rural cabin. Safara is a deputy who instantly knows what Eli doesn't. He's a Paladin. She's from Kalithia. It's up to Safara to tell Eli her secrets while trying to keep the small population of Kalith on Earth safe from the Paladins. Plus they have to find a group of rogues suffering from light sickness terrorizing the area.
Eli and Safara made an excellent couple. They worked so well together. They trusted each other's skills and knowledge. I liked the new story arc this spin off is taking as well. I hope to read more about the Paladins as they track down the 'men in black'.
I'd love audio versions of the entire Paladin series.
This was a GoodReads Giveaway win. I thought this one would be better. I could not get into this book. The story didn't hold my interest. I thought the whole thing just dragged along. This one just took to long for something to happen and when it did, it wasn't all that exciting. This book just isn't for me.
I received a copy of this in a Goodreads giveaway and it has not affected my review.
I don't read a lot of military or paranormal romance, but it was interesting to see the two combined. The hero is a soldier who comes back to life after a helicopter crash and goes into hiding since he's presumed dead, while the heroine is local law enforcement with a big secret - she's an alien and guarding a portal to her home world. (Or something like this - this is generally what I remember a month after reading; I took the summer off from Goodreads reviews!) I was a little disappointed that the focus was more on the external conflict - there's a sickness affecting the other world that makes them violent and come through the portal and attack Earth, and the heroine and her family need to fight them off and keep their identities hidden - than the internal conflict about a human discovering that he's supernatural, and his romantic interest isn't human. But I did enjoy that there was some action in the book, without the usual approach of romantic suspense to have serial killers, stalking, or other creepy things.
I liked this addition to the world Morgan had created. I know I've read the original series more than once. I wasn't sure how she could expand it anymore, but this book showed me different. I had wondered what happened to those men who had no idea of what they were when they died and came back to life. This was a nice peek into the "what if" I thought about. Perhaps we can now get more information about the "others" and their culture. Their world seemed pretty small in the previous series. But, maybe that is what all we had seen? I had wondered about how the barrier was across the world. It was talked about there being other places paladins were needed, but it stayed focused on the Seattle and Mid-West region. I liked the main couple. The romance was rather just meh and tame to me. The action in the story had a lot of promise, maybe it will gain momentum in the next book. I remember there being more in the first series, but it has been a while since I've read it. Nice cameos of Barak and Lamar, their books were two of my favorites.
First I’d like to thank goodreads ,the publisher, and the author for the chance to read this book. I enjoyed reading this book and the storyline and characters. Eli died in a helicopter crash but didn’t stay that way ( talk about a rude awakening) and as you can expect thought he might be a bit crazy and he was the only one that walked away so he had just lost some of his best friends. Safara is a deputy in a small town in the middle of nowhere and she has a secret too she’s not actually from earth. Safara and her father (the chief) are actually from kalithia and both are sworn to protect the citizens from earth and kalithia and protect their secret. If you enjoy a bit of the paranormal, suspense and romance thrown into the mix than this book is well worth reading.
I'm glad the author is starting a new spin-off series from the main one. i like this world and i'm happy to get more of it.
I just wonder why the eBook is 12MB in size. wth? Reduce the resolution of the cover image. There is no good reason to waste that much space on my eReader for one book. An eBook, properly formatted, shouldn't take up much more than 0.5MB unless it has pictures in it. I like to keep my favorite eBooks on my eReader, but this one is so big it will have to stay in the cloud. I hate that. I can only get books back from the cloud when I'm at home and can connect to the internet.
First, let me say how OVERJOYED I was when I happened upon a new Paladins book!!!!! The Paladin STRIKE TEAM let me know this would be a new spin off series of the original series!!! We got to visit with Lonzo and Larem and Devlin was referred to...... Omg, I LOVE THIS SERIES ALREADY!!! Just as good as the original series, and that's saying something!!!!! You've been gone too long Alexis Morgan!!!!! Welcome back with your Paladins!!!! SO EXCITED!!!!!!
I missed Alexis Morgan's Paladins!! I'm so happy to see she's giving us a few more! I've read ALL of her paranormal & fantasy romances and love her writing style. She's great at getting you right in the story and holding you there throughout.
Eli and Safara's story is really good! If you like hot military men with special powers and women who are just as tough with a bit of sweet, you'll love this story.
Yay! Thank you Alexis for bringing the Paladins back. Didn't realize how much I missed these guys and gals until I started reading this story. I loved seeing the characters from previous books and I loved this story. Looking forward to many more please.
I absolutely love the Paladins and this one is no exception. There are several threads in this story that can be pursued in future novels. Can't wait for the next one. To Alexis Morgan...well done!
The Palladians was a series I enjoyed and I am thrilled to find them again. This book was really good. Eli and Safara are an interesting couple that I hope stay active in future stories. It will be fun to read about Devin again!
And interesting and action filled story with development of characters being very clear and interesting. The interactions with the characters are realistic and I can’t wait for the second installment to learn more about Tyson and who’s hunting them.
Good read. Eli and Safara meet under strange circumstances...and it gets stranger as they discover that they aren't completely human. Enemies become friends and then lovers as they fight together to save people.
Great reading, action and intrigue aplenty in this urban fantasy. A spec-ops Army Sergeant miraculously survives a fatal helicopter crash that kills all his team and then discovers he is a member of a select group of humans-Paladins.
I really don't know why I'm not in love with these books. Its exactly the kind of story I love, but these just don't hit 5⭐ for me. Quick reads, and only one more to go.
I really enjoyed the Paladin books when they originally released, so when I saw a new series would be started in this same world, I was more than a little excited. While it's been very long time since the last Paladin book released, I had no trouble jumping right back into this spin off series. There's just something special about Alexis's storytelling that let me slip right into the world and the awesome characters. However, I will admit this time around felt just a bit different than the previous books. They just had a different feel about them with less focus on the Paladin "lifestyle" since Eli's an outsider, and he's on Earth, but in a Kalithian town. This isn't a bad thing, as it gave things a fresh new feel.
I really loved Eli and Safara together. They each came with so many secrets and watching them dancing around each other trying to figure how much they can trust and share was a great ride. Despite coming from such very different worlds, they both had the same very protective spirit. Seeing them come together despite all that baggage and fierce natures was incredibly enjoyable.
If you've been missing the yummy Paladins in your life, IN DARKNESS TRANSFORMED will be the perfect fix!
Sergeant Eli Jervain is killed in a helicopter accident along with his Army teammates, but he doesn’t stay dead. Until he can figure out what’s going on, he hides out at his late grandpa’s remote house in the Washington Mountains.
But the people in the nearby town have their own secret and Deputy Safara Dennell wants to keep it that way until she meets Eli and their secrets become one.
Footnote: 1) I like the way Safara is able to use her femininity in a non-sexual way to defuse a situation. Males and females can work together and still embrace their differences if they’re adult and sensible about it.
Fave scenes: sharing the pie, Eli in the tree, Chief Daddy’s visit and Eli’s ultimatum to Jakes.
Unfortunately, IN DARKNESS TRANSFORMED just couldn't grab my attention. The pacing was very slow up to the halfway point that I read to. Normally I would DNF a book much sooner but I tried to keep going because I was so excited to try this new spin-off of the PALADINS OF DARKNESS series. I loved the idea of a man who doesn't know he's a Paladin and how that experience would go but everything just felt very dry.
