He's back! And, once again, this cheeky blue character does not want you to open this book or turn its pages. What reason does he have this time? This fun story will delight children and adults alike. Keep turning the pages and find out what happens when you reach the end all over again, if you dare!
Andy Lee’s a comedian, musician, and TV presenter, who became an award winning children’s books’ author by accident. The first book in this series was only ever meant to have one copy. Andy wrote it as a surprise for his sister and her husband to celebrate their son George’s first birthday.
When he asked his mate to print him one copy, his mate said, ‘This book is good, can we print more?’ What did Andy reply? ‘No. DO NOT print this book.’ Pretty sure you can guess what happened next.
Fun little read. Illustrations delightful. Indy is 10 and reads with good expression, I told him he reads better than I. ‘I know. That’s why I don’t like it. I’m so good at it’. Oh, only my child would say that!
This is a funny read, turning the book upside down to read it, then being confused about which way to hold the book. Id barely had my morning coffee so this mother was confused!
A blue monster in underpants while the reader is dared not to turn the pages. An unexpected read on a rainy summer holiday, where the book had been in the caravan for a couple of years.
Recommended for young and old, in weather sunny or rainy!
I enjoyed this one. It is the second installment and I'm yet to dive into the first one. The pages consist of colorful illustrations and a little scary suspense.
Following story behind writing this book is inspiring and endearing. I can't wait to do something similar.
A Note from Andy Lee: "I wrote this book as a surprise for my sister and her husband to celebrate their son George's first birthday. He liked it. So when I heard my sister was pregnant again, it didn't seem fair to not have another book to celebrate the arrival of the new baby. This is that book. "
Macie’s review. This is another really funny book. I kept laughing when I turned the pages & his clothes kept disappearing, but I couldn’t stop turning the pages & laughing for the rest of the book.
The second book in the series continues with the same theme of the blue monster trying to stop readers from flipping the pages. However, it falls short compared to the first book. The text is more long-winded, the words don't flow as smoothly, and the message isn't as clear
The first book is MUCH BETTER. The little blue creature in the first book was funny, desperate, manipulative, and did all things to convince us not to turn the next page (sweet talked, begged, pleaded, sobbed, used reverse-psychology, gave us silent treatment, lied etc). This second book followed the similar theme, with the same blue monster doing all things to stop the readers from flipping the pages. But the texts are a bit more long-winded, the words don't flow as smoothly as the first, and the message isn't as clear as the first book (if you have to explain a joke ("do you realize every time you turn the page my clothes disappear), then I am afraid that joke is not quite a success after all. And yes, this is just one of those many problems with this second book.)
Illustrations wise, the little blue monster is just as cute and ridiculous, and makes us smile. But I don't like how the "story" goes in this second book. It lacks a clear structure and planning. It started off with the blue monster doing ironing and trying to convince the readers that this book is "very, very boring". It then "re-used" the "accident" reason in the first book, but in a more long-winded and boring way ("hmm I get it! You actually meant to turn the page the other way to close the book, didn't you? Well, you've accidentally gone further in..."). Well, not as funny and effective as how the first book said it.
The little blue monster then kept on mumbling about how there is "nothing to see in this book", "everything is perfectly normal". It feels unconvincing. The little blue monster lacks the desperation and exaggerated emotions (like how he was in the first book) to make this a funny book. It was like he already expected and secretly wanted the readers to turn the page. Out of a sudden, we saw the monster dressed up in multiple layers of clothes and told the readers that "it's getting chilly in this book, isn't it?". It then said "for the sake of your own health, please don't turn the page again". Not convincing, and I am afraid, not very funny at all.
I could go on and on. There are some parts of the book that are quite cute, like the double-spread page with the upside down illustration and words ("you silly duffer! You've got the book upside down... Turn it around"). We smiled a bit, and it did feel silly to turn the "next page" once the book was held upside down. But other than that, the rest of the book feels lame and uninteresting. 2 year old little-AJ doesn't get it (he loves the first book). He probably doesn't understand what the big deal is to be naked and have your clothes being taken away. I can imagine such idea might work better for older kids.
I might be biased (I am a big fan of the first "do not open this book" book). I don't think this second book works, although it is still an okay (but not very funny) read. "The first book's better", as per the cover.
The book was about a monster pleading with the reader not to keep reading. He urged the reader not to keep turning the page even trying to play tricks on us. Throughout the story we noticed the monsters clothes kept disappearing and it was to what seemed to be no end UNTIL...
This hilarious book really had no moral it was just a crazy funny book I think every kid would want to keep reading about. I couldn't help but blush by the illustrations of the monster slowly undressing. The last page was my absolute favorite and I couldn't help but laugh. This book was super creative, interactive and engaging i couldn't wait to get to the end!
Unpopular opinion - sorry! This was ok. I wasn't a huge fan of the first book (I liked it, but didn't love it). I feel like it's a poor imitation of The Monster at the End of this Book: an all-time classic. This sequel is much the same as the first. Heath McKenzie's illustrations are awesome, though, as always!
A funny story where the character continuously tells you not to turn the page of the book. I think younger children would find this a very funny book to read as a whole class read-aloud story. The book would also be good for encouraging more reluctant readers to read. The illustrations are funny and the character shows a lot of emotions which would be funt o explore further through discussion. Overall a fun book to engage children and make them want to read on.
Second instalment of the 'Do Not Open' series. I haven't read the first, which reviewers say is much better, and I get their sentiment that it reads a little clunky with issues in the flow of the storyline. However my daughter - 7 years old at the time of writing this - loved this book and she loves Wizz the main character. Any book that gets your child reading and rereading is a winner!
I've heard of the first book, but I can't recall if I read it or not, but I did read this one to my class this week. I really enjoyed it, I thought it was funny, and the kids loved it. I rated it 4/5 due to some of the vocabulary being on the cusp of swearing. The words were damn and heck.
This is the 2nd book in the series. While it's still funny I think the first one was a little bit funnier. My first graders were super happy for me to read this book to them. This is also an AR book for anyone who might want to know.
I love this book! Kids will definitely keep flipping the pages and there are more books in this series so they will keep reading book after book. I am using it for a read aloud and the illustrations alone will make the kids laugh.
Another silly and fun addition to this series. I thought it might get repetitive but each story brings some new tricks up its sleeve! (Like the upside-down book trick - very clever!) I think kids will enjoy this one a lot - very cheeky!
