The Spice Woman's Basket and Other Tales

Rate this book
Fourteen tales of magic and enchantment, where Time is held captive and his secrets are told. The author creates a continuity from fairy tale to life, as in childhood when every stone and tree holds a secret--perhaps a dryad who has protected the forest for a thousand years or an old Roman treasure, waiting to be found.

Somehow my mother acquired a radio drama version of this on tape back in the 1990s when my sister and I were children. It was magical. We loved every second. It vanished at some point never to be seen again, but we've never forgotten it. They are some truly joyous memories.

I'm working on acquiring for myself a copy of the book, but have yet to find any evidence of the radio play's existence. I feel like it must have been given to my mother by the Fae or something, and then reclaimed.

Some great stories, some boring ones, one that's 40s-typical racist. Another that implies we colonised the fairies?
