The Wrong Highlander

Rate this book

This was what I would consider a good B movie kind of romance novel.
It's fun as long as you go into it with the right expectations. In other words, there are a lot of forced situations, cliche tropes, and just random cheese stuffed into the cracks.
If you can accept this and not take the story too seriously, you should be ok.

description

Alright. The gist is that Lady Evina (who is this really tough chick) needs a healer for her very ill father. The best healer. So she and her faithful goons kidnap Rory Buchanan while he's bathing in the river.
Well, they accidentally kidnap him. She meant to ask him politely to help, but because of circumstances beyond her control...she whacked him on the head, knocked him unconscious, tied him to a horse, and dragged him back to her home.
Accidentally.

description

Except it's not Rory. It's Rory's brother, Conran.
Hilarity ensues and these two crazy kids fall in love.

description

Yeah, yeah. There's a lot more to the story because you have to have DANGER! MISUNDERSTANDINGS! and lots of SEX!
But you get the idea...
I'm gonna be honest, I'm just in it for the accents, so I highly recommend the audiobook version if you're interested in this one.

Gary Furlong - Narrator <-- does a good job upping the sexy quotient in this!

****4.5 Stars!!!!****

I absolutely love this series by Lyndsay Sands! If you have ever read one of her books then you know how she integrates humour into her romances! I love knowing that I am going to have many laughs while enjoying the situations the main characters get themselves into! Not only are there a ton of chuckles, there are plenty of blazing hot moments as well! Seeing as our hero is a sexy Highlander in a kilt... you can’t go wrong with this historical romance!

This instalment has Conran who is the fourth son in the Buchanan family. I have loved following these brothers throughout this series and each story includes a ton of interaction with the current main characters and the older ones too! You could read each book as a stand-alone but I wouldn’t recommend it. It is so much more rewarding to have the whole family history and knowledge of all the brothers and their wives!

If you enjoy Scottish Historical romances then I highly recommend this series! It is up there as one of my all time top faves!!! I can’t wait until the next book comes out... I’m thinking I have awhile to wait; but with this series I could reread it many times and still enjoy it like it is the first time!

Pulling the plug on this; time of DNF: 20%

I get that this was trying to be a comedy of errors with a side of slapstick, but it's just not working for me. Kidnapping...the wrong person, naked and dangling from horse, falling off horse, boils on arse, tripping and falling on top of lady you found sleeping on floor outside the sickroom door, destruction of personal property of someone who helped you, and it continues.

Just No.

4 stars!! 😍 Loved it! This was so much better than the previous 2 books in this series. Evina and Conran had amazing chemistry and although the story had the usual ups and downs of a Lynsay Sands book, things were not that obvious and the villain was a surprise. It was also nice to note that the h was not a pushover and the H had to put in some serious time and effort to woo her.
Highly recommended 👍. Can't wait to read what's next in this series.. 😁

Another solid entry in a fun, campy series that is a personal fav. Conran & Evi were a good match, and I always like seeing the Buchanan gang get back together. An improvement from the last one I read, and I'm looking forward to rounding things out with the last of the brothers getting paired off

Mistaken for his healing brother, Rory, Conran is "kidnapped" by Lady Evina to help heal her father who has taken to his sick bed. Conran has picked up quite a bit about healing from his brother Rory so when tasked with healing Evina's father, he steps up to the plate. But he is unsure of Evina's intention and doesn't let anyone know they have the wrong man...until his family shows up and he finds himself betrothed to Evina.

Someone also tries to kill Evina and with the Buchanan's all showing up, they have plenty of people ready to help solve the mystery.

Fun, flirty and a the quirky Buchanan cast, The Wrong Highlander is the right novel for the historical romance fan.

I received this ARC copy of The Wrong Highlander from Avon. This is my honest and voluntary review. The Wrong Highlander is set for publication Jan. 29, 2019.

I've come to the conclusion that Lynsay Sands could write the phone book and I would probably read it and enjoy it. I love how she diversifies herself between historical and paranormal. I love how her words flow off the pages, how she can take perilous situations and make them fun and exciting. She writes strong woman, handsome men and interesting stories that make it easy to turn the pages.

I loved being back with the Buchanan's. Lady Evina and Conran were wonderful together. They were a true comedy of errors right from the beginning. You couldn't help but smile and laugh throughout this story of mistaken identity. And, she brought all the Buchanan's together again and I absolutely love when I am able to visit with past characters that I fell in love with. It was fun watching Lady Evina being the strong, capable woman of the Maclean Clan to going soft in the arms of Conran. You knew that it would get really interesting when everyone found out that she kidnapped the wrong Buchanan and, it did. But, not for long. It was even more interesting watching Conran trying to woo and win his woman back.

I do love reading Lynsay Sands. She never lets me down. She knows how to keep a story interesting and moving along and knows just how to write those twists and turns that keep you wondering. She writes beautiful love scenes between two people who truly belong together. So, all-in-all, she knows how to write wonderful stories and I am sure that I will just keep reading her and not be disappointed in the story.

This book follows the same recipe as the preceding books in this series: too much exposition, someone is trying to kill the heroine, secret passages in the castle, the Buchanan family and their spouses unite to solve this mystery. Do they truly have to ALL be there?! The Buchanan brothers even pointed out in this book how each of them was married to a woman whose life was in danger when they first met. I'm not sure why I'm still reading this series if each book follows the same recipe, but maybe the predictability helps me to go into these books with little to no surprise. The only surprise would only be the reveal of the murderer.

I really enjoyed this one. It has family, betrayal, romance and suspense.

Lady Evina was afraid her father was dying so she set off to bring the renowned healer Rory Buchanan to tend to her father. But in her haste, they kidnapped the wrong brother, Conran and brought him to their keep.
Conran knew enough of Rory’s herbs and routines to heal the MacLean Laird. Conran also formed an attachment to Evina but she did not want to marry him or anyone else. She didn’t want to be under a man’s command. So it was up to Conran to show her that she could still be herself and be his wife.
So began the lesson in seduction!

I liked both Evina and Conran. They are loyal, self-sacrificing and kind. It was delightful taking the journey with them because they had chemistry in spades. I also enjoyed the meddling MacLean Laird. I could totally see what he was doing so I’m shocked none of them figured it out. Both families together was the best part of the story.
I have to go back and read the ones I skipped

I’ve been reading this series off and on, but I couldn’t resist this synopsis.

I loved Evina and Conran. They’re both stubborn and the button pushing is amusing. I loved how they talked and got to know each other, even if it was a bit backward. Of course, the entire cast of family appeared and I had no idea who some of them were, but I’m okay with that.

Plot wise, I never really settled into the evil thread. I was more wrapped up in the relationship, so I may have skimmed some of those parts. I just didn’t really care who was doing the targeting and the reveal was meh.

Overall, it was a fun and quick read. I do enjoy these books and I can’t wait to see who gets a book next.

I have had so much fun with this family here and I each book is guaranteed to keep you on your toes. Now I admit, first off, the cover here that Avon did is wonderful and so sexy, I love a naked man under a waterfall. But honestly, there is something so endearing about this series and you are always guaranteed a page-turner and a charming love story whenever you pick up Lynsay Sands.

The Wrong Highlander is a story that begins with Conran Buchanan, who has been assisting his brother Ronan with gathering herbs for his healing potions. Conran is the brother that is a “jack of all trades” and is always there with a helping hand. But now Conran has found himself in a heap of trouble. While cleaning himself in the river, he gets attacked and kidnapped and assumed to be his brother Ronan and demanding he help with their Laird being sick. But even though the circumstances aren’t the best, Conran can’t resist helping someone in need despite how it came about. Lady Evina refuses to let her father die of sickness and doesn’t feel that she has a choice and kidnaps Conran (she assumes him to be the infamous Ronan) and demands he heals her father. She will do anything for her father, even reduce herself to becoming a kidnapper. Evina refuses to marry, ever. But there are sparks that fly between herself and Conran and she can’t deny the feelings she is learning to have for him. But there is a plan to kill Evina, and when Conran’s family come to get him, they search for the unknown killer.

I found the Wrong Highlander to be quite an entertaining read for sure. There was something about this book though, that really appealed to me in such a unique way. First off, this book is a page turner, you won’t be able to put this book down. This is what I love about Lynsay Sands, her books are so engaging. In this book, I was really intrigued with the set up of the story, I do love a fun kidnapping story and Sands did a great job with this. I love how Conran doesn’t let what Evina does to him to prevent from healing her sick father, and he doesn’t resent her for it. He is so understanding and patient with her especially her fears of sex and marriage. She does have some good reasons for both and we see how Conran is steady like a rock and never loses hope on her. There is such growth in the intimacy that forms between these two here. They have some powerful sexual sparks of course, and yeah once they start kissing, they have a hard time stopping from touching each other and are just explosive. What I did like was that Sands shows how uncomfortable the first time for a woman can be and how Conran helps Evina deal with her fears of sex since their first time is pretty painful for her. But he is great in showing her how pleasure can be found despite the fears and misconceptions you may have beforehand.

We also have a level of suspense and intrigue introduced into the story and I really love how Sands has situated this aspect in this story and like the previous books, it’s wonderfully delightful to see it happen for sure. And it was quite fascinating to see this develop because when it begins, you don’t see it coming and boy this author had me on the edge trying to figure out why Evina and Conran were being targeted and who the real culprit was and yeah it blew me away. No matter how much you keep guessing you will never be able to figure it out….I guarantee it. Or if you do, you are my superhero, but seriously, I love how you never knew what was going to happen next especially in the last half of the story.

Overall I found The Wrong Highlander to be a tale of laughs, medieval adventures and some sexy kilted lovin’!! A ROMANCE TO DEVOUR!

Was an okay read but was never really able to get into it fully. It felt like the MCs didn’t have much development and I didn’t bond much with any of them. I had little investment in the relationship and even less in the characters.

Exposition Central, Platform Repetition. Totally lacking in humour, the usual balm to the empty calories of a Sand’s attempt at highland romance.

Also that first quote on quote sex scene came out of nowhere, was (literally) on top of a presumably dying man, and was so unasked for by the female involved as to qualify as assault.

Then there was the male basically slut shaming her in his thoughts after His unasked for advances on a dazed woman waking up from sleep being randomly moved and held by a stranger. Seriously?

Don't waste your time on this. You can feel your brain cells rot in real time reading it.

To add insult to injury, there is so little plot or point to any of this that everything has to be several paragraphs of long-windedness to make up word count.

Less egregious than the usual, case in point below-

“Do ye want to eat here in bed, at the table or on the fur by the fireplace?” he asked, lifting his gaze back to her face.
“The fur,” Evina decided at once. She didn’t want to get crumbs in the bed, and eating at the table meant shifting everything that was presently on it. The fur would be comfortable and easy, she thought.
“The fur it is, then,” Conran said lightly, and stood to find and don his shirt. Evina watched the material drop to cover all that male beauty, and then sighed and slid out of bed to look for her tunic as he collected the tray from the bedside table. Spotting the thin gown in a pile on the floor, she snatched it up and donned it as she followed him slowly to the furs.
“Are ye warm enough? Or should I make a fire?” Conran asked as they settled on the fur with the tray between them.
“I’m fine,” she said a little breathlessly. “’Tis actually warm tonight.”
“Aye,” he murmured, and turned his attention to the food on the tray.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Why say in two sentences what you can say in twenty? Is that the premise? Sigh. Just Sigh.

This one was just okay. As with all of LS's Highland books, if you've read one you've pretty much read them all because they're basically the same story over and over. In other books of the series I've still enjoyed the stories even though they were repetitive because I made a good connection with the characters. Evi and Conran's relationship just felt very tame and boring.

So yeah, nothing new on display here if you've read the other books in the series, but it'll pass the time well enough if you're planning a beach vacation.

Gosh I love this series! This one was super fun with a kidnapping and kind of an enemies to lovers/forced proximity. With lots of highlander drama!
While I love the brothers in this series, the ladies group that has formed are truly excellent. I love how when they find out someone is getting married they drop everything to go but end up walking into some kind of murder plot. Love it!

Series: Highland Brides #7
Publication Date: 1/29/19
Number of Pages: 384

I think I enjoy this series more and more with each new book. Each book is witty and humorous while still being tense, exciting and romantic. The writing, as always, is excellent and the story is tightly plotted and well executed. I love the main characters as well as the re-appearances of the large and boisterous Buchanan family. You can read this book as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend the rest of the series – otherwise, you’ll miss out on some lovely stories and great background on some of the characters appearing in this story. Including this story, we’ve found HEA’s for 5 of the 8 Buchanan’s – only three more to go. I’ve loved each of their stories and they are all wonderful. So far the only sister, Saidh, has married along with Dougall, Niels, Aulay and now Conran. We only have Rory, Alick, and Geordi left. I can’t wait for their stories.

Conran Buchanan doesn’t think he has any real talents. It doesn’t bother him overmuch though. He loves helping his brothers with the things at which they are good and he has learned a lot from each of them. He’s more a jack-of-all-trades. He’s learned about horses from Dougall, sheep and wool from Niels, being a good Laird from Aulay, and healing from Rory. So, it isn’t surprising to find Conran out with Rory looking for medicinal herbs. Conran’s saddlebags are so full that he can hardly close them.

After hunting for Rory’s medicinals all morning, Conran is hot and itchy and is looking forward to stripping down and enjoying some time beneath the waterfall. UGH, he feels as if there are creepy-crawlies under his clothes. He knows there isn’t, that it is just the wool of his plaid against his damp, sweaty skin, but still – he can’t wait. As soon as Rory heads back to see a patient, Conran strips and heads for the waterfall.

Evina Maclean has ridden non-stop from her home, a good two-day ride, to fetch the healer, Rory Buchanan. He’d accompany her to her home whether he wanted to or not. Her father lies dying and she’ll do anything to help him. So, she’ll ask Buchanan nicely, but if he was unwilling, she’ll kidnap him!

Evina has spent her life doing as she pleased. Her mother died when Evina was ten, and her father just closed off and left everything to Evina to take care of – even the care of her newly arrived and orphaned two-year-old cousin, Gavin. She wears trewes under her skirts, carries a sword, rides astride and runs the clan in her father’s stead. Everybody in her clan loves and respects her.

Imagine a completely naked Conran suddenly finding another fully naked man joining him in the waterfall. Yep, that meeting didn’t go well and the two end up fighting and tumbling from the waterfall into the stream where they continued the fight. Suddenly – out of nowhere – there is the hilt of a sword coming toward his head. Then, nothing, just blackness.

Conran’s nude and unconscious trip to Evina’s home is quite an adventure. You’ll wonder how he ever makes it alive, but it is quite entertaining to read.

Once Conran revives, he learns that they think he is Rory and he certainly doesn’t intend to tell them differently until he finds out what is what. However, when he sees the dying Laird Maclean, he decides he’ll do what he can to save him. Even though Conran is not Rory, he has learned a bit from him – and there is nobody else to help.

Conran is drawn to Evina but knows that he has no chance of courting her. He’s the fourth son and she’s a Laird’s daughter. Then, there is an attempt on Evina’s life – and another – and another. Don’t try to figure out who the villain is – you won’t, but it is fun to try.

One of the fun things about this read is that you really believe the love between Evina and Conran. She challenges him rather than following meek and ladylike – and he admires her for that. Great romance.

Lynsay Sands is simply a fabulous writer and proves it yet again in THE WRONG HIGHLANDER. The only people I love more then her are the Buchanan brothers. There are a LOT of them and I sleep easily at night knowing there are more of thrilling and hilarious stories to come.

Lynsay Sands is not shy to throw the main characters into some pretty dangerous situations, whether it be poisonings, arrows flying everywhere, and murderous relatives. In THE WRONG HIGHLANDER we get all that, plus a reunion with all the previous couples from books 2-6. I have read the series a bit out of order so it can be more or less qualified as a standalone read in my opinion. However, it's a good thing to read all the books as the series is set in an interconnecting universe of historical Scotland.

Evina Maclean and Conan Buchanan are stubborn individuals meant only for each other. Thankfully there are enough relatives and castle resident to keep forcing the two into some awkward situations. Their banter does keep the story highly entertaining and make for a very quick paced read. The only sad part about that is that the story flies by so quick and the next thing you know you are at the end.

So if you are a fan of historical romance this book is a MUST read.

Evina "Evi" Mclean is desperate, her father is dying and she needs the best healer in the highlands, Rory Buchanan to come and tend him. She didn't plan on kidnapping him, but when she and her men find him bathing in the waterfall, there isn't time for niceties - she sends her cousin Gavin to bring him to her, but when a fight breaks out and she intervenes, "Rory" ends up unconscious and almost drowns. Evi doesn't have time to wait for him to wake, so they tie him to his horse and are off.

When Conran Buchanan wakes, he realizes that they believe him to be his brother Rory, he is going to correct them when he sees how ill the laird is. Conran is not a healer, but has assisted Rory enough to know how to bring a fever down. He begins issuing orders and sets to healing the laird. Evi is not happy about being bossed around, but if he can save her father, she will comply.

The next morning, Conran finds Evi sleeping outside the door, he picks her up and carries her to her father's bed, when he trips and they fall on the bed, he kisses her and she kisses him back, but they jump apart when there is a knock at the door. Conran goes down to eat and her dad wakes, he tells her to go keep Conran company - Conrad asks why she has not married, she has. He is upset that he kissed a married woman and they two avoid each other for days. But Evi's father explains she is a widow and encourages Conran to woo her, going as far as to concoct reasons for them to be together. When they go to gather herbs, one thing leads to another and Conran is shocked to learn that while she is a widow, she was still a virgin and she most definitely did not enjoy their coupling! But before he can say anything, they are attacked by bandits and she is shot with an arrow, he rushes to protect her and is thankful to see Gavin in the clearing. They fight off the bandits and rush Evi home.

When she wakes days later, she learns that her father expects them to marry - she refuses. And when Conran's brothers show up and the truth of who he is and what her father did comes out, she is even more sure that she won't marry him, but when Conran implies she might be carrying his child, it seems like she has no choice. Conran doesn't want to force her to marry and set out to woo her. Things are going well and she accepts him, but it seems like there is someone who will stop at nothing to keep that from happening.

The book is filled with the signature Lynsay Sands humor, action and heat, with characters that are likeable and relatable. But it felt like it was just a different spin on the same story as the previous books, in fact when your characters are commenting that the same thing happened to all of them, it might be time for a new twist. That in addition to an uncommon amount of modern verbiage, butchered titles and rushed ending made this a three star read for me. It was good, just not what I had hoped for... But to be fair, this was an uncorrected copy and the verbiage and titles might be corrected before publication.

*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an UNCORRECTED eARC that was provided to me by Edelweiss and the publisher.

The Wrong Highlander by Lynsay Sands is book Seven in the Highland Brides. This is the story of Conran Buchanan and Evina Maclean. I have read the other books (and Loved them!) in this series but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Evina father is deathly sick with a fever, so she and her cousins go in search for Rory Buchanan a famous healer in the area. They end up taken Conran who they mistake him for his brother Rory. Evina has to knock him out so that they can 'kidnap' him. Conran comes awake to find that he is in a home that think he is his brother and they want him to use his healing skills on the Lair there. Conran does help the Lair but also finds that he has growing feelings for Evina...and she to him. But things don't run to smooth when someone comes out to take her down.
This series is one of the best I have read. Ms. Sands's writing takes you through so many emotions of laughing, sadness and just plan excitement for this next page.

Have you ever really liked a book but at the same time, not been sure what to say about it?

That's where I find myself with this book.

I loved the character, I really liked the story...but there was something missing for me. And I'm not even sure what that something was.

Like I said, I loved the characters. One of the things I love about historical romances is the woman are usually strong women. They're almost ahead of their time. Evina aka Evie, was no exception. She ruled her dad's estate, training with the men and doing what needed to be done. She wasn't afraid to kidnap the best healer around when her dad was sick.

Conran was an all around great guy. For me, there weren't any stupid male moments from him. He was strong, alpha and an all around great guy. (yes, I said that twice). He set out to woo Evina, show her all the reason she should marry him. He didn't just decree it. He even asked her to marry him as opposed to just saying she was going to. He was protective, and it was great.

The author did a great job with the suspense part of the story. I was on the edge of my seat, just waiting to find out who the bad guy was. I'll admit I had my suspicions about who it was, and I actually called it but dismissed it.

Like I said, overall, I did enjoy the book. I just didn't LOVE it.

But, I would recommend it. It was a very good read.

I think that this was my first Lynsay Sands books that was just "meh". It felt like the plot was just recycled from her various other Scottish books. I felt nothing for the character's and the mystery seemed to be pulled from nowhere. I do admit that I felt the 'bad guy' was someone else, but even for this book that would have been too obvious and this book was filled with the 'obvious'.

I would save my time and money and simply re-read one of the more enjoyable books like the ones that were first in this series---the ones whose plots were fresh and not recycled.

As another read to tack up on my Scottish historical romances shelf, The Wrong Highlander was definitely a fun and welcome read!

The story starts with Conran Buchanan innocently bathing himself and minding his own business in the woods. Evina MacLean though...has other plans for him. Mistaking him for his healer brother, Rory, she kidnaps Conran and takes him home with her to heal her father.

Sounds as good a place as any for a romance to start, doesn't it?

And oh, it does indeed, friends, and in quite a cute, naturally-progressing, and overall satisfying way! I think I'm just a fan of Lynsay Sands's writing where Scottish historical romances are concerned, because this is an author whose books I just know will be re-re-re-reads!

Among the colourful cast of characters are tons of hot Highlanders and their brides that I have to delve into the stories of and, considering that this is book 7 in the series, it makes sense that I need to backtrack a bit, given that I've started out of order. (Found this book in great condition at a thrift store though, and I wasn't about to pass it up after seeing that it was already on my to-read list!)

That being said, each of the books in this series stands out on its own, and since no specifics are given about the stories of all the other characters--and there are WAY too many to keep track of them all, trust me!--it's fine to read them out of order if I feel like it.

In terms of Sands's stories, this one definitely follows the same formula of comedically-and-steamily developing romances set alongside a murder mystery plot, but I think that from time to time, this combination is just what's needed to give the write amount of spice and surprise to a pleasant read.

Definitely an author that I'll be returning to again and again for future new reads, as well as re-reads!

I gave it a shot but I'm just not a fan of the highlander trope. They always come across a bit too brutish to me. I'd take a regency drawing room over a thrush covered chamber any day. The hero and heroine were genuinely sexy and not annoying. The "threat" was pretty obvious to figure out too but man is his family big. Waaaay too many couples showing up to keep straight as I've not read the prior books in the series. Still, if you like a Scottish laird setting you could do worse.

Jumping into a series on book seven is always a risk. Luckily, THE WRONG HIGHLANDER stands alone well and I enjoyed this book about Evina and Conran. Evi is desperate to save her ailing father, so she goes to request (force) Rory Buchanan, a famed healer, to cure him. Through a series of classic Sands hijinks, Evi ends up kidnapping Rory’s brother Conran.

The Pros: This book is fun and lighthearted. Evi is honest and blunt to a fault which leads to some interesting group conversations that had me both gasping in second-hand embarrassment and laughing out loud. The steam factor is on point, which is super satisfying considering the sexy cover! I think Evi and Conran are good matches for each other overall. She is stubborn and headstrong and he is almost a beta hero.

Ms. Sands is a skilled writer so the plot moves quickly and I never wanted to put the book aside. I also enjoyed the mystery. I was guessing about whodunit the entire book which is a refreshing change.

The Cons: As I mentioned this is the seventh book in a series. I always enjoy hearing about secondary characters, and I am sure fans of the series will enjoy the glimpses into the lives of characters who have had their own books. Unfortunately for me, by a certain point, it just felt like Ms. Sands was trying to sell her previous books to me. I didn’t need plot hints for literally every single couple who showed up to Evi and Conran’s wedding. It was fun at first but quickly took away from my enjoyment.

I also think this book was trying to do a bit too much. There were lots of characters that were mentioned more than once or twice then forgotten forever. Because there was a mystery element, I thought they would be reintroduced in some way, but there was no mention of them again. Also, a few emotional plotlines were confusingly added in the last few chapters. I don’t mind adding layers of depth to a character, but by the end of the book, Evi and Conran’s inner thoughts seemingly came out of nowhere.

Overall, I did like this book. It was a nice way to escape a few hours. Fans of the series and the Buchanan family will enjoy it. However, I don’t think it’s Ms. Sands best. I really hope Rory actually gets a book next!

I really love this series, and this book is no exception. While it might not be my favorite, I truly enjoyed this one. Mistaken identity. Kidnapping. And a set up by her father. Of course you have the attempted murder. What else could one ask for in a highlander book? I switched between the audio and ebook for this one. I did prefer the ebook over the audio only because I had to slow the narrator down so he didn't sound like a robot. But both were still enjoyable. I really liked Conrad in this one. I felt like I got to know his character a lot more. Being a 4th son, he never thought he would amount to anything and no one would ever want to marry him. But I loved how much Evina's family took him in and wanted to include him... well except Evina at first of course. And Evina's character was very strong, having lost her mother and husband at the age of 10, she really stepped up and became a mother in her own right. Not taking orders from anyone, I really enjoyed her character. Overall, this was a great addition to the series, and I'm still a little upset that I thought it was going to be Rory's book.

I'm not sure if any of you have read a book by Lynsay Sands but if you haven't you are truly missing something. I just love her books. You can always count of a few things when reading one of her books, they will be well written, you'll her characters and they are always funny.

She has a natural humor that draws you into the story. Humor helps balance out things even during the worst of times.

I just love her characters and I have to say that this series, the Highland Brides have some of my favorite. I love how these brothers are with each other. They are totally in for each other. It really makes the story richer. You can feel the different layer of loyalty and love they share for each other.

This time we have Conran who gets kidnapped, sorta, instead of Rory. This would be horrible if it hadn't turned out to be so funny. Plus, it's hard to be kidnapped when you can leave at anytime.

I also enjoyed Evina and her family. As the book progresses you really learn more and more about her and realize what a very special person she is. I was glad she for Conran instead of Rory because she really needed someone like him who can love so deep.

I think you'll really enjoy Evina and Conran's story. Besides the romance of it you of course get the mystery to go with it. I loved how the brothers and friends pointed out how it seemed that each of them found woman to fall in love with that had someone who wanted to kill them. If you read the series you think that, not that it's a game changer for reading the series, but you never think about what the author thinks, until this book. Pointing out makes they series as a whole work even better. Drawing attention to and being shocked about the attempted killings gives you common ground with the characters.

A fun series that you all should try!
