Is it love, or is it alien abduction? In the far future, young human Antaska accepts a job to go into space with a gigantic alien adolescent. She brings her psychic cat along. Mischievous but evil part-reptile humanoids team up with Antaska’s nemesis--a genetically altered fitness instructor--to harass her to the ends of the universe, but her unexpected alien abduction spoils their plans. This science fiction dark comedy explores the many faces of love and its dark side, and pet ownership. Pets and Masters in Space by Elfa Todari (a pen name for Trisha McNary) is the prequel to this book.
It had been a while since I read the first book, but I still remembered it well. Reading this book pick up quite nicely from where the last one left us off at.
The book continues it's journey with the kitty named Potat, her human Antaska, and her Verdante pet M. Hoyvil. It starts off with their ship being close-ish to their planet, which is where the trio will rest for a bit on the planet and then continue to deep space.
There are some nice action scenes with twists you don't see coming. I loved reading this book and didn't put it down for long so I could finish it. I am glad I was able to read this.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received Hypnosnatch, book 2 of the Xeno Relations series, as a review copy through Reading Deals. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. I read and enjoyed the quirkiness of book one, Alien Pets, and was happy to read and review a copy of the sequel. Quirky worldbuilding and fascinating characters made this a fun storyline, but this second book fell short of the prior novel's fast pace and interesting plot. The theme was more high school drama (bullies and actions that could have been thought out better), and didn't catch my interest as fully as Alien Pets had. Strange and outlandish, as the title would suggest.
If you like classic SF from the 60's where the heroine travels the galaxy meeting various good (and bad) non-human species in the company of a cat (which is very much more than you expect - but what everyone suspects) this is a great read!
There are adult situations that are implied but are not explicit - extremely reminiscent of the classic era of SF. Dangerous situations, close calls and daring rescues including the classic slow moving galactic government!
Thanks, Trisha, for an interesting and enjoyable Part 2...
I'm occupied with technical reading (for college courses), so this series has been a pleasant, unexpected distraction. As continued from Part 2, those familiar with the 'finicky', independent nature of cats may find this series has a sci-fi 'twist' they can relate to.
Too few characters and plots, simplistic characters
The interesting world created in book 1 continues with very little new information characters, all creepy, none of it humorous or heartwarming. The humor and warmth of book 1 are missing, and there is no character growth in the main characters. I was disappointed in this follow-up book.
Different, weird but in a good way.An alien, hybrid human and a talking psychic cat traveling in space. Gets kidnapped! Need i say more, read it to find out.
