If this had been a series of lectures at the library, I would have been all-in. But as a book, there was too much filler. Also, the errors, typos, and formatting inconsistencies were out of control. I couldn’t believe the author didn’t catch them initially because most are very blatant. But since the books have been out since 2018/2019, looking back over them for errors periodically would be a quick fix to really elevate his reputation. Especially considering he sells his own books and markets himself as an editor for other writers… I started keeping a list of errors and issues in the first book but had to stop because it became too much.
Just like the other books in this series, “Plotting the Murder” comes with the details any aspiring or developing mystery writer should have in mind for creating a fascinating story. Get the book! It is very clear, very nicely organized and has good examples to make its reader understand the art, but also the science behind a well written mystery novel!
This book explains the way to create a plot in a mystery, police procedural or a thriller. The examples help in recognizing his plan with action for the writer to succeed. The writer will enjoy this how too.series.
This author does a very good job of providing clear instructions on the best way to plot a murder as well as sequence your book. Would definitely recommend to any authors trying to write their own murder mystery.
