To find a missing girl, he has no problem adding to his body count…

Porter makes a killing tracking down missing persons. The former federal agent has the bank statements and body count to prove it. But when a good friend asks him to take on a charity case gone cold, he reluctantly agrees. After all, no family should have to bury their little girl's empty coffin…

As he retraces the girl's last-known steps, Porter squares off against a disgruntled bus driver, Tampa gang leaders, and human traffickers who peddle their wares on the darkest corners of the web. Through dirty hands and bloody knuckles, Porter learns that the girl may still be alive. And he won't stop until he's given her captors exactly what they have coming…

Look out, Jack Reacher, there's another big'un in town! Well, in Florida, anyway. Porter is an ex-fed who now finds people. For money. And since he's not a cop, he doesn't have to worry about things like warrants, probable cause, Miranda warnings, etc. He can flat get 'er done! My first foray into the Porter world and I like the neighborhood. I'm sure I'll visit again and enjoy another tale of bad guys getting what they deserve from a guy that can really dish it out. Shout out to my bro' for lending me this book: Thank you!

Very well written tale of a PI who works off the books, using his own sense of justice. Readers who enjoy tales of vigilante and semi vigilante justice will like this story.

What a sensational read!

For one thing, I dislike stories that have too many characters and subplots and jump all over the place. I like stories that are linear. They begin, they travel, and they end, taking me along for the adventure, and that's what this does. Porter, an ex FBI agent, has absolutely no sympathy for the people who traffic in little girls, and woe betide anybody who gets in his way in his quest to find this missing girl. He is a snarky quipster who angers any bad guys who manage to survive a conversation with him, but also takes the time to sit down with an old doorman while on his way to one of these meetings so as to listen to some of his war stories about his Vietnam days. Picking up an ostracized female detective to, with much reluctance, help him along on his quest to find the girl, who no one is looking for because she comes from a very nasty neighborhood and has been missing for a year, he battles his way forward, leaving a wake of battered bodies behind him as people try to impede his progress. A truly fantastic read, and it turned into one of those reasons why authors give these books away, for me.....I have to have more and am wiling to pay. Porter has the smart mouth of a Spenser coupled with the single-minded solitary power of Jack Reacher but is way more brutal than either. Enjoy.

A solid 3 stars… or maybe 3-1/2 stars, but more likely 2-1/2. Oh heck, I dunno — you decide!

"Forceful Intent" by R.A. McGee is starts off mildly enough but soon begins giving little hints that things are going to get unpleasant for the "hero" (perhaps it would be more honest to refer to him as the protagonist; the main character though maybe not very heroic) and moreso for people around him. Sure enough, things get ugly, and it becomes crystal clear that the protagonist, Phil Porter, is more the anti-hero type.

McGee has fashioned a Jack Reacher-type hero, though more muderous and less polished, but with a house; clothes; an arsenal; and an ex-wife who is still very much under his skin (in a romantic, blues-song way) — all-in-all, a much less disposable, wind-blown-leaves character than Reacher.

Not all of Porter's plans are as plausible as Reacher's — actually, all of them are sketchy, and many just ludicrous. Equally ludicrous are a number of scenarios, from engaging law-enforcement types (LEOs) through negotiating with friendlies and confronting adversaries.

Yet the plot is well-developed and the storyline is built with continuity and foundation that make the yarn an entertaining read. R.A. McGee is a great writer, with a great foundation in grammar and prose, and the few errors in that error are exceptions.

Other errors — see my notes on Goodreads if interested — raise questions whether McGee will rise to the level that his creativity hints. As this is the first Porter novel, it is likely that proofreading and editing will be made available and future novels will be as polished as they are entertaining.

Forceful Intent - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Porter's a sleuth specialising in missing persons cases in RA A McGee's first novel in the Porter Series.
His latest case involves a friend who asks him to pro bono a cold case and find a grieving couple's missing daughter's body, to give them some sort of closure.
Reluctantly Porter accepts the case and things quickly start to unravel, as it seems the girl may not, after all, be dead but a sex-slave, kidnapped and trafficked to waiting clients on the Dark Web.

Porter may be a flawed hero, but he is an Everyman kind of hero - forthright and full of integrity to see justice done for those who truly need it. Along the way to solving the case, he encounters gang leaders and their men in Tampa, people-traffickers - even a disgruntled bus driver along the way to his final conclusions and actions.
You're sure to enjoy this fast-paced crime thriller that gets down and dirty in the city's underbelly,
so grab yourself a copy today - and tell all your friends that Porter's 'The Man'. More please!

Forceful Intent is another entry into the tough guy problem solver genre, with a hero along along the lines of Spenser or Jack Reacher, though less polished.

Porter’s best friend Ross begs him into looking for a missing kid, and the story drives forward at a good pace.

I enjoyed the characterization, built by quirks and interesting bits of history, like Ross having bought his house at 19 and fixing it up. In fact, in many ways I liked the supporting cast more than Porter.

I had a mixed reaction to Porter himself. He skated along the line of likability for parts of the novel. He’s practical and, in some cases, unsympathetic to a degree that made me disconnect from him. Also, I wish he took more breaks from the banter. He had enough redeeming moments/interactions to keep me caring, though.

There’s some implausibility in the way he maneuvers his way through certain obstacles, not just physically, but with law enforcement—still, that’s pretty par for the course with the genre.

All in all, an entertaining read.

An ex-Homeland security agent, Phil Porter, is now a private investigator that specializes in missing persons. In this case, it happens to be a missing child. There is plenty of action with this P.I. as he is not afraid of using violence to get results. He also has the snappy verbal language of noir detectives in a bygone era. While this is an engaging story with enough dilemmas to be resolved there seemed to me to be too many killings by our hero. I was left to wonder how can he think this killing won’t be traced back to him? Of course, the killings didn’t come back to him, but it was never explained why not. No-where in this story do the police become involved in killings left in Porter’s wake. If it hadn’t been for this loose end, I would probably have rated it with 5 stars.

A gripping thriller that never slows down! Justice is served in heaping portions!

A writer I know, recommended Forceful Intent to me and thought I'd like it. I did!
Porter is a finder of missing persons! He is a rough edged, uncivil and extremely persuasive in dealing with horrible criminal types. He makes the reader rejoice as bad people get what's coming to them in measured doses! Evil perpetrators are held accountable for their deeds! Porter is dangerous and follows a unique moral code to serve justice well done! A very entertaining book.

You Don't Want To Get In Porter's Way!

Five stars for a gritty, tension-filled and action-packed story about taking a job too close to home to do your magic and as a favor for your best friend. Kudos for characters that fill your mind with their complexity and depth. And the progression of the story from page one all the way to the last sentence was so smooth it glided all the way. But a spoiler alert! If you get the least bit squeamish at the mention of blood or graphic violence because of your sensibilities, then this book is NOT for you!

A well-told contemporary tale, this novel deals with some major issues in a matter-of-fact manner. Porter is, for some folks, perhaps too casual with the taking of bad guys’ lives but his reasoning seems sound to me. Racial issues are also dealt with forthrightly, without pandering.

More importantly, as a reader, I remained engaged in the story, with very few lapses. There was one instance of editorial blundering, where a paragraph or so of text was repeated, but for some reason I find that almost par for the course in these digital books.

Give it a try. It’s worth your read.

Forceful Intent by R.A. McGee

I have read this author’s Clark series (3 of them) but this was the first book of this author with Porter as the main character. The book was thrilling and entertaining (with friendly banter between Porter and his close confidant/accountant Ross) from start to finish. Chronicles how Porter is able to find and save a (black) child hostage from the grips of a very rich man with a twisted mind wanting to have this little girl as his slave. Waiting to read the next book in this series.

This was an author that I hadn't read before, and I found this book very good. It was interesting to see how a coloured former FBI agent behaved when he had called the local police to his house. We hear so much about the problems with the police in the US. He goes out into the street and kneels in the street waiting for the police to arrive with his hands up, he was the innocent party. I certainly enjoyed this book and have just started the next one in the series.

Porter has a policy of never takes cases close to home. His friend Ross talks into going against his better judgement and taking a cold case of a missing little girl. This story takes some surprising turns and is peopled with great characters, and I couldn’t put it down. Every little princess deserves her ‘knight in shining armor'

I don't give away 5 star ratings for the heck of it, but McGee outdid himself with this latest Porter novel. Lots of action, believable characters, and a main character that you just can't get enough of. Clean editing, a smooth yet forceful writing style and never-ending suspense. I can't say enough good about this story. Kudos to McGee! Keep'em coming!!!

Forceful Intent: A Porter Novel (Porter Series Book 1)

I love Porter. He reminds me of a big shaggy brown bear. His hilarious repartee with his friend Ross have me laughing my head off ( sometimes that’s when I get funny looks) but hey ho. I am looking forward to reading his third book. Can’t wait. His second book is just as good.

Porter is a force to be reckoned with.

This was a fast-paced story of a man who finds answers and gets things done. When asked to look into the disappearance of Danny,a four year old black girl, Porter goes to the source. An ex-wife FB I agent, his methods may not always be legal.

Interesting

Good writing. Grammar and editing wonderful. Liked the story for the most part but disturbed my enjoyment of the storyline thinking about how the little girl he was supposed to be looking for was so rarely mentioned, let alone a bigger part of how he spent his time. Lots of action

Porter is a powerful character. I liked how he works for the underdogs in society, rescuing a little girl who was abducted from her family. He takes down the bad guys in resourceful ways, never quits, and makes choices for good. Forceful Intent was a good read and I'll come back for more from R.A. McGee.

One of the best thrillers I have ever had the pleasure of reading . A mc that you can’t just jelly but love . The dialogue was authentic, felt like real people speaking about real things you know . Wasn’t too long winded , the action just kept on progressing. Porter really doesn’t give a flying fudge about anything when it comes to finding that girl . I love that about him .

Easy to get into

I really liked McGee’s use of language for the characters, and overall. It was contemporary, feeling like it was something I would say myself. Or that I hear regularly. That made it easy to follow, and get in to. And Porter is brutal when brutality is needed. An Everyman version of Mitch Rapp.
It gets four blazing stars for these reasons!

Wow, McGee, you simply must write more Porter! And make him a TV star as well. Once a week. This would be great.
Simply love the way you write. How you build characters. Develop the plot. The twists and turns.

Yup. dear McGee, you have done well, again, please do more

I have read many ebooks that had so many typo's I threw most of them away. It was so sad the writer's could not edit their own novel. Then I read My 1st R.A. McGee. Not only did I NOT find a typo anywhere but the character, Porter, kept Me guessing about His next move. Good writing.

Good action movie. Porter is an ex-Fed turned private detective who strong-arms reluctant perps into giving information. Somewhat loosely-based, but if one buys into the concept it's a great read to the finish.
