Sulfur Springs #3

Saving My Sanity

Rate this book
Walker Roberts is a lost man. One fateful night, his entire life was turned upside down. First, he was turned down by the young man he’d been gathering up the nerve to ask out for two years, and then he lost both his parents. Not only that, he discovers his life is not what he thought it was. At thirty-four, how could he not know the truth about his family? Unable to cope, he walks away from the life he’d built for himself, only to discover his ties to Sulfur Springs might be stronger than he realized.

Tristan Stone is the youngest and most junior man on the Sulfur Springs Fire Department, making him the probie. His crew is amazing, and he’s watched one of his closest friends from high school fall in love with his Lieutenant. So why does he feel like he’s missing something? He’d thought he’d done well with hiding his attraction to the very straight Captain Walker Roberts, but has he? Without warning, Captain Roberts disappears in the middle of the night and Tristan realizes just how much he misses the older man once he’s gone. Is he coming back?

Tragedy strikes in Sulfur Springs and one of their own is caught in the chaos. Will Walker return in time to save the young man he’s silently watched for so long?

Saving My Sanity is the third book in the Sulfur Springs series. This is a Men of Crooked Bend spin off, but it isn’t a requirement that you read that series to enjoy this one. Familiar faces will be seen, but this series takes you off of the ranch and into the lives of those in Sulfur Springs. While each book will focus on a different couple, you should read them in order. Each book contains sexually explicit material between two men and is intended for adults over 18.

Nothing is hotter than two sexy firemen falling in love and creating a family together. I love the Sulfur Springs series and the men in this town. Taylor Rylan makes you fall in love with her characters. Her stories make you feel all the emotions and if you are right there watching them unfold. I could not put this book down and you won't be able to either!

Older Walker and younger Tristan, find a loving, full house !
I love older/younger, Firefighters, and problems being fixed. It’s complicated...
when 40 yr. old Captain Walker’s Dad in Cheyenne

has a heart attack, but huge surprises are in store.

Tristan, 20, is the “probie” at the Sulfer Springs firehouse,

has trouble with his horrible religious parents, and wants to protect his three sisters.

When he’s badly injured on the job, Walker is by his side, like the firehouse staff had been for him in Cheyenne. But the difference is, these two already smitten. We see Tristan’s family strife, and Walker coming to terms with his surprise.
These guys are wonderful, they get to know each other, are super sexy, plus caring and big-hearted.
But there is so much more...

Rusty...

We get a fabulous outcome, epilogue, and HEA. I am loving this author, Taylor Rylan.
Enjoy !

 Entertaining

This audiobook is hot AF and ûber emotional in equal measures.

All Michael Pauley's narrations are brilliant and solid; Saving My Sanity isn't the exception.

With that said, in this audiobook his performance was a bit more dramatic and at times OTT . But then, he is portraying highly emotional characters .

Overall ,Saving My Sanity is an entertaining story. I didn't listen to the other two books of the series but , I don't feel it hinder my enjoyment of this audio.

Received an ALC code of this through LesCourt and this is my honest review.

Saving My Sanity is book three in the Sulfur Springs series, and has to be my favorite!

Walker, my sweet, sweet Walker. His strength, love, and devotion really won me over. Even though he felt like his world was falling apart, he still pulled it together to help Tristan.

Tristan was a sweet heart, even with the way his family treated him. He may be young, but he's very mature.

Their love was slow coming, but they never once faltered from being true to each other.

This book is one of Taylor Rylan's best to date. Can't wait to see where she takes us next in Sulfur Springs!

I freakin loved this book!!!! Walker and Tristan works together at the Sulfur Spring Fire Department....Walker is the Lieutenant and Tristan is the new probie. Walker for the past two years has had feelings for Tristan that he didn't understand cause he always thought he was straight. When he finally works up the courage to ask Tristan out....he says no. Tristan really liked Walker but wasn't interested in being his experiment. When Walker deals with the death of his parents and finds out a secret that rocks his core....Tristan is there. When Tristan gets hurt and is trying to deal with that and his very overbearing family....Walker is there by his side. They are each other support system throughout this time and they quickly figure out that this is the real deal for the both of them. I absolutely adore Walker and Tristan....they are perfect for each other. I can't say enough good things about this book and I highly recommend it to everyone. I can't wait for the next book in this amazing series....well done!!!!!

Touching story (an audio review)

This book starts out heavy. Really heavy. Like I’m sniffling within just a few minutes. But I love those kinds of books and it does lighten up slightly as time goes on. Walker Roberts loses both parents and his sense of self all in one day. He’s always believed certain truths, but upon the deaths of his mother and father, he discovers much of what he thought he knew was a lie. That’s tough to swallow all at once and, knowing it will take time and that there is now much baggage attached to his old life, he decides not to return to Sulphur Springs.

Another tragedy brings him back. He faces the man he’d asked out but who had rejected him. Tristan Stone has always known who and what he was. Despite his mother’s valiant attempts to pray the gay away, he knows he’s only attracted to men. Men who are just scratching an itch? Not interested. Captain Roberts is fourteen years older and certainly has had time to figure out he likes men. He’s been dating women all these years, so Tristan isn’t convinced when the older man asks him out that it’s legit.

But Walker is serious. He’s been watching Tristan from afar and those feelings of attraction – and possibly more – have grown over the two years. Living in close quarters with someone can solidify feelings, that’s for sure. And have other men and women discovered they are bi or gay well into their adult lives? It happens. Sometimes it’s because they just haven’t met the right person yet. For Walker, that man is Tristan.

Tristan comes with a lot of baggage. Walker is all-in from the beginning, though, and that speaks to the strength of his feelings. Fortunately Tristan feels similar attraction because the men are going to have to fight to save those Tristan loves most.

This book has plenty of feel good moments. And some tough ones as well. What happens when the ones who are supposed to love us, let us down? For Walker, it’s not quite as bad, but for Tristan, the results are horrendous.

Michael Pauley narrates this book and I’ll say again what I’ve said before – he hits every note perfectly. He’s great with the voices and the differentiations. He’s also good with handling the numerous female characters. I had criticized Ms. Rylan in my review for the first book because I felt there were no solid and good female characters. This book was certainly much better in that respect. Overall, I enjoyed the book.

I really loved this book. I want to say you can read it as a stand-alone. But, personally, it is much more enjoyable if you read the first two books in the series first. You will meet many, many familiar faces, and if you read the first two first, you can even catch the occasional glimpse of our two main characters. You also might come across a few moments or places that are mentioned in this book that aren't properly explained what they are because they happened in a previous book. While it won't take away from the enjoyment of this story if you're anything like me you don't like being confused. So, if you came across this book randomly, while not completely necessary I do recommend reading, Protecting My Commitment (book 1) and Rescuing my Angle (book 2), first.

If you read book two before you jump into this one you kind of get a really good head start on this book. The beginning of this is just repeating something that happened in the last book, just from different perspectives.

From the start, I knew I was going to really enjoy this story. I was looking forward to it when I was reading book two and it was pointing in the direction that the next one in the series would be about Tristan and Walker. Thinking about both of their lives, I can't say who I'm sadder for. They both have such heartbreaking stories.

I don't like going over what happened in the books. It's not how my reviews work. So, I'm going to do that whole overly emotional thing and talk about my feelings... You're welcome.

So many times, I was smiling until my cheeks hurt. This book is so sweet. But, not overly done. Other times, I was so very sad. A few time I felt my eyes burn at the unfairness of what these two were going through. And at one time the tears even fell. My heart was breaking for Tristen and Walker. However, there are moments where I was screaming YES, because I was so happy with how something turned out or was said or done.

All in all, this was a wonderful book and I highly recommend it.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the connection between Tristan and Walker. Man Tris’s parents were pieces of works. They belonged to a fanatical church and forced Tris to give at least 50% of his pay check to the church, they had debit cards and they could write out cheques from his account. They also hated that he was gay and thought that if he married the right women he could repent for his “sins” and totally forget about being gay. I loved the friendship between Tris, Hawke and Cody. Total friendship goals. Man, Walker is such a sweetheart in offering to take Tris’s younger sisters in when Tris got custody of them without even batting an eye. It would totally mess with your head if you find out after 34 years when your folks both pass away that you were adopted and that your dad’s best friend donated his sperm since your dad couldn’t have children, and that happened to be your boss that never said anything for years that you’ve worked for him, just like what Walker went through. Tris and Walker are great together even with the massive age gap. I’m looking forward to reading Cody’s story next. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people likes this kind of story, sadly, I am not one of them.

Walker and Tristan had worked together as firefighters for two years, and never exchange more words than necessaries, and, as a matter of fact, Tristan thinks Walker kind of hates him. So when Walkers ask him for dinner, Tristan says no.

After that, Walker's parents die, he discovers that the man he knew as his father wasn't his biological father, and Tristan has a bad accident, and his crazy parents all but kidnap him and his older sister. And, amidst all these messes, Walker and Tristan come together, and Walker becomes the fixer of all problems.

They have been together all of what? one week? and they are living together, and Walker is taking care of Tristan's three sisters, and... Okay, you get the picture. A man like that, taking over the life of another? It makes all the alarms ring VERY loudly.

And I really didn't like Michael Pauley's narration. It's overdramatic and without inflexion.

Not a story I'd revisit any time soon :/

Taylor Rylan's Saving My Sanity is the third book in the Sulfur Springs series. It's a bi-awakening, coworker romance, telling the story of "straight" Walker who finally faces his attraction for fellow firefighter Tristan and embraces that newly realized Bisexualness by asking the other man out, then his whole world is turned upside down. For that matter, so does Tristan. During it all, they realize they can hold on to each other and be strong... they can thrive no matter the tumbling blocks, because they have each other.

The story does a fantastic job of bringing us into the action... making us feel the characters' emotions. I found myself hating certain secondary characters and falling in love with our main characters and thier extended "family". There are major drama topics these guys face but mixed into those serious scenes are the humor, the sweet and the sexy. This is definitely a satisfying story and makes me want to look into the whole series.

I liked Tristan and Walker, they seemed to fit well together despite their age difference, which really wasn't that much of a problem in their relationship. They had chemistry and it made sense that everything they'd both gone through helped to bring them together.

While the blurb was a tad misleading regarding Walker's sexuality, the rest was pretty much on point. There was a lot of angst, but other than Tristan rejecting Walker's advances at first, the majority of it was from outside sources. And while what Walker lived was a tragedy, I felt even worse for Tristan, after having to deal with parents as horrible as his. Some parts of the book felt a bit rushed or underdeveloped, but aside from that, it was a good, engaging story.

The narration might not have been my favorite by Michael Pauley, but it was still very enjoyable. Recommendable!

Forming Family

Probationary firefighter means you're the grunt stuck doing all the chores the rest of your team doesn't want to do and some days Tristan wishes he wasn't the "probie," but it's better than being home with his fanatically religious parents who are trying to marry him to the preacher's daughter. Problem is, he's more interested in his "very straight" fire team captain who just seems to glare at him all the time. In all his thirty plus years, Captain Walker had never been so confused as he was when Tristan strolled into the firehouse on his first day. Two years later and he still doesn't understand what he feels when he sees the beautiful young man each shift, but he finally worked up the nerve to ask him out. Unfortunately that's when chaos, destruction and deception rain down on his entire existence and he doesn't know if he will survive.

Last in the Series

There may be more books written for this series but this is the last one for me. The characters are more juvenile than their ages would suggest. The plot hinges on no one talking about his issues. There is a whole lot of “OMG I really need to tell you something — but not right now, I’ll do it later.” As soon as that is said, expect a disaster/accident/emotional episode followed by a long delay before that “important something” is finally discussed. It was tired, verging on boring.

I remember the earlier books as a bit more cohesive and not quite as jumbled and bumbling. This one slowly became less and less, until I lost all interest in Walker and Tristan, Trace, Hawk, and the rest. This was not an enjoyable experience.

Narration: 4★
Story: 4★
Execution: 2★

This was a fine book, really. I like stories with GFY and straight-to-gay, coming out and discovering yourself. Add a firehouse environment and I'm sold!

Ok, that said I'm sad to inform you it didn't look like a GFY/straight-to-gay story. The "straight guy" isn't straight at all. The story begins with Walker asking Tristan out and Tristan refusing because he doesn't want to be an experiment for Walker. Things happens and they end up sharing a house together. Walker wants to be fucked by Tristan, already use toys down there, doesn't mind he liking a guy, there is no coming out because he already knows he likes guys and girls. There is nothing wrong with the above, but the blurb mislead me to think one thing, and end up another. That's why I didn't enjoy so much, it was different from what I expected and seems like a big case of insta-love (even though it was not).

Doesn't mean I didn't like it, I did. If nothing above bothers you, I think you will like this book. It was sexy, well paced, cute and just a little OTP (which is not a flaw for me, but I know it is from some people). There isn't much to talk about Michael Pauley, he is a well known narrator among MM books and as usual, did a job very well. My only pet peeve with him is the pacing between speeches and character thinking. Sometimes he mends all at once and so fast I don't know wich is speech, action or thinking and who is talking.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is perfect for a budding relationship to suddenly have 2 unhappy teenagers moving in - oh yeah!

Captain Walker has been watching & working up the courage to ask someone out, it's been 2years. He says he is 32 and can not chase after a 20 year old. However he can't get past it, no one has interested him yet. Tristan is a "probie" the rookie of the firehouse for two years suggestions due in & he can pass the title on - finally. This gets intense story with life & death and endangered children. It is horrifying not for the fickle. Not all parents are good. This give your whole heart is a catch your breath moment. Not a Hallmark love story - this has grit & real life and love without bonds. More reviews @my2centsbooklover Thank you!

This is fast becoming my favourite series. Walker and Tristan are so good together without becoming too much. Walker's bluntness and total honesty are amusing to read. And I have to say, I almost cheered out loud when Tristan had the bright idea to put a towel down so they didn't have to throw all the bedding in the wash after they were done. Finally! I don't understand why so many books have characters who are totally fine with nutting all over the comforter or bedding and then having to do all the laundry every time they have sex. If your characters are pretty randy, that's a LOT of laundry! Three cheers to the 20-yr-old who recognizes in the heat of passion that putting a towel down saves so much work afterward! 🏆

WOW, what a story! Not only does Tristan turn Walker down when he first asks him out, but that same night, Walker suffers a family tragedy and discovers lifelong secrets! Then Tristan suffers an accident and Walker is scared he might lose him all together! Quite a lot to get through but these two characters definitely have a lot of strength and love. I love watching them finally get their chance at true happiness and seeing how they support one another through everything that is thrown their way. I truly enjoyed this whole story! The narrator is absolutely amazing interpreting the story and portraying these amazing characters. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook.

Brilliant...

It was every bit as good as what I expected it to be! Walker has been confused about his attraction to Tristan for a while. Tristan is attracted to Walker but thinks he's straight. An unexpected tragedy pulls Walker back to his home town, and his whole life changes. Tristan is trying to escape his manipulating, homophobic parents. When Tristan is injured on the job, Walker comes back to Sulphur Springs. What follows is tons of drama with Tristan's parents being at the centre of it all. Loved it. Looking forward to the next one.

In love

You will fall in love with this book right from the start. We got to know both Tristan and Walker in the previous book. So when it was their story next I was extremely excited. We knew it wouldn’t be easy but we didn’t know they would have to over come so much to finally get their happy ending. I think what I loved about this book so much is the bond between Tristan and Walker. It makes you all mushy inside. It makes you wish and hope for love like they have.

Loved this book from beginning to end and I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

These men are a beautiful hot mess! Walker is dealing with the death of his parents, a big secret being revealed, and the fact that the man he cares for has been injured. Tristan has emotionally abusive and religiously fanatic parents and 3 sisters to care for on top of being injured on the job. Somehow they not only make it work they fall in love. This is a feel good story. Yes Walker has never been with a guy before, but there is no awkward moments or angst about it. He goes after what he wants and what he wants is Tristan

Saving My Sanity is the third book in the Sulphur Springs series. It should be read after the first two books.

This is a contemporary romance centered around two firefighters who are both managing some difficult family issues. I really liked this book, especially how both men have to support each other and overcome some serious family dysfunction. There were a lot of sweet moments in between all the angst and drama. The audiobook was narrated by Michael Dean who does a great job with the performance. The audiobook production was well done.

Firefighters, hot stuff

The life that Tristan led was by far the worst I've ever had to read, however, the love he found in Walker was the best I've ever read. Tristan and Walker's love for each other was without conditions of any kind and makes me wish all love could be that way. The hatred that came from Tristan's parents make you wonder how such love and understanding can come from those four siblings.

With all the drama that is happening in Sulfur springs with fire and lost. The story is written so beautiful of 2 that need the strength and love of one another. Walker and Tristan were meant for each other and will their house full now with happiness and love. you will love this series it is a must read today!!!

Loved, loved, loved Walker and Tristan!
I loved how much Walker is fiercely protective of Tristan and is so ready to embrace his newly discovered bisexuality without any fear and to do everything it takes to take care of Tristan, and as an extension, Tristan's sisters, estranged from their horrible parents.
Walker is such a sweetheart, I just want to hug him and tell him what a good man he is!
Tristan has sort of a hard time realizing and accepting that Walker is in it for the long haul and wants to committ and love him, but that's mostly due to the fact he's never been taken care of.
Michael Pauley is the voice of dreams and is incredible narrating every single character, even Tristan'ssorry excuse for a mother!

This read like a first draft. Similar sentences with almost the exact same words were placed in the same paragraph. Words were misspelled, causing confusion (eg., Can't was used instead of can). Weak plot, under- and over-reactions by the characters. It was pretty bad. This list is just a sampling. Please, authors, hire an editor before publishing. This is how you lose readers.

Such a great tale

I love it when a character knows what they want, and they go after it. Consequences be damned. What’s even better is when their partner feels the same.

The losses these two suffered were monumental but together they persevered. Even with the odds stacked against them.

Hot firefighters

I like this book but I didn't love it. I wasn't sold on the Tristan and Walker attraction in the begin of the book but as the book progress that they belong with each other. Tristan's parent are crazy as hell. I want to know if there is a guy for the Chief, he deserve a happy ending, please say yes Taylor Rylan. Lol

Wow! Following on two geat previous books, Saving My Sanity brings with it all the great qualities of previous titles, adding to it with an important topic of parental abuse and religious bias. Loved how the themes were treated without unnecessary big bangs, while still delivering an impactful message. Good job!
