Let me start this review with a PSA - this book contains several triggers - in the form of abuse and adultery. It is well written, but some of the content may be upsetting to some readers.

Virginia, Viscountess Langley is in a very unhappy marriage. Her husband was charming and attentive until the wedding and then his true colors began to show. He married her for her dowry and once he had it, he was cruel and abusive. Virginia has had enough, enough physical, mental and emotional abuse. Her greatest desire is to have children to love, convinced that she will never be able to have a child, she has turned her heart towards the forgotten children of London. She has a plan, she will use the trust fund her father set up for her and build a home for these children, she will live separately from Lord Langley and devote her life to orphans.

She is livid when she learns that Langley has stolen her money and plans to confront him, but everything changes when she is abducted after leaving the solicitors office. She is sold to the pirate O'Malley and held on his ship for months. She is sure all is lost when a miracle happens - they are rescued!

Magnus Sinclair never believed in love at first sight, until he saw Virginia. He saves her from certain death and wants nothing more than to always protect her. They form a bond and he believes that she is the "one". But then the truth comes out - Virginia is married. Magnus is heartbroken, but he can't seem to let her go. No one and nothing will keep him from her. Even the threat of his death. He will help her return to London and reclaim her fortune and ensure that her husband can never hurt her again - even if he dies in the process.

When things come to a head in London and Virginia is freed, Magnus has hope that they will have a HEA - But Virginia has her own dreams and as much as she wants Magnus, she will not forsake her dream for him or ask him to forsake his for her. A HEA for these two seems impossible, but a twist of fate may change everything.

I loved this book until about the 60% mark, up until then, I couldn't read it fast enough, but then it hit a wall for me - in the form of adultery - I know her husband was a scumbag, I know he abused her and broke his vows, but that doesn't change the fact that she committed adultery - this is a deal breaker for me - they shared kisses before this and while I wasn't overly thrilled with that, I could let it go, but when they moved past kisses to an intimate relationship, I was upset and disgusted. But, I made a conscious decision to ignore my personal bias and be fair and open minded for the rest of the story. But once they got to London the story just fell apart in my opinion. Virginia just made one bad decision after another and several improbable/unbelievable things transpired. By the end of the book, I wanted Magnus to walk away and find another woman to love. Honestly, even without the adultery, I would have wanted him to wash his hands of her - she was so incredibly set on her path that she refused to even consider compromising - I just felt like she didn't love Magnus as much as he loved her and hurt him over and over again.

This book was well written and flowed nicely, but in my opinion, the story fell apart after they got to London. I liked that this book tied all the books together, I liked revisiting characters from the previous books, I loved Lucy's brother George, I LOVED Magnus and my heart broke for Virginia. But in the end, I felt that this was a 3 star read. The first half of this book was a easily a 5 star read, but the second half was barely 2 stars, there were so many questionable legal issues and consequences that were wrapped up too quickly and easily to be convincing and the possible legal ramifications of her pregnancy were completely ignored. If you have read the other books in this series, I would recommend this book, but caution that there are "triggers" in this book. If you haven't read the other books, I would recommend starting with Tying the Scot and deciding for yourself.

This is the third story in the Highlanders of Balforss series and has many characters in common with the earlier stories but it is written as a standalone and is a fantastic regency romance. It does contain events which could be triggers for some people, so avoid it if reading about abusive relationships, kidnapping or adultery upset you.

Vicountess Langley, Virginia Whitebridge, has had enough of her abusive marriage but the law gives her husband her inheritance - well, all except the significant trust fund her father set up for her. When she discovers he has also taken that, she’s determined to get it back. However, as she leaves her solicitor’s offices she is kidnapped and loaded onto a pirate ship. This is the start of a tedious, frightening sea journey around Britain, a journey she doesn’t expect to escape from. However, fate has other plans when the Sinclairs come to rescue another of the captives, freeing all those incarcerated on the ship. This leads to her reconnecting with someone she attended school with and meeting the Highlanders of Balforss….. including Magnus, who helped in her rescue and is determined to protect her. As the attraction between the two flares even hotter, she is still set on returning to reclaim her fortune and Magnus plans to go, too, even though two people have foreseen this leading to his death . . . .

This is a steamy, hot, historical romance with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. The writing flows well and the characters are robustly developed. Magnus is a brilliant character, a strong, determined man who is loyal and faithful, the epitome of the Highland hero! If you enjoy historical romances with handsome Highlanders rushing to the rescue and finding love, you’ll probably thoroughly enjoy this story - but I have warned you of possible triggers! I'm really looking forward to reading 'Bull's' story!

I requested and was given a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

1817 England and Scotland

Virginia Whitebridge was sold by her father for her wealth for a title. It was no more than being in prison or forced slavery. Yet being a man's world she is forced to take the wicked cruelty and barbaric brutality. He is a villain with every sense the word! Virginia has never known love with an uncaring father and evil demonic husband.

The only thing she feels happy about is an ongoing business venture. That is to open a home for abandoned and orphaned children in the streets of London. She felt this was her calling and a sure thing. Since this was her private finances with money her husband was not entitled to touch. Yet she gets devastating news, that her hairbrained solicitor just handed over every penny to her swine of a husband! The nightmare that wouldn’t end, with the worst, cruelest, being in her life!

Shortly after that she is duped by a starving child. She gets abducted with several other women, to be sold in human trafficking, slavery, to the West Indies. Luckily one of the women was the fiance of a Scottish Sinclair Clan. They rescue the women and this is where she meets the kindest, bravest not to mention the most handsome man she ever known. The attraction is immediate and sizzling hot!

Yet, Virginia is not being honest and hiding her true identity. Unfortunately an acquaintance from her past is there. Lucy went to school with her in England, now in Scotland and married to Alex Sinclair! As Lucy Sinclair once was very much infatuated with Virginia's husband. Lucy can't figure out why she hasn't written to her husband, to tell of her misfortunate abduction and rescue. He must be so worried she thought shouldn't he be?

Virginia has asked Lucy not to tell anyone of her marriage or royal title. Claiming her husband ßwould lose all acceptance by the ton. That is if they found out his wife was on a ship full of pirates for three months! Yet really Virginia is scared for her life and needs to investigate and find out if her husband was behind her abduction.

The chemistry is hot and heavy, even though Virginia has been married for three years-Magnus gives Virginia her first kiss ever! Yet the guilt spills in and she confesses her marriage. Not only that but her title as an English Viscountess. Something that is way too high for farmer, Magnus Sinclair, which leaves him devastated and broken hearted.

She is like the fragile China his mum warned him off as a child. He can look, but not touch, but boy oh boy, did he want to touch! Then his cousin Declan who has a mysterious power in his dreams. He is the hero in Betting the Scot, book #2. Magnus asks his cousin Declan who is a seer about a vision he has. He also knows when his cousin is lying to him. Did he possibly see his death is this sight? He can’t seem to stay away from Virginia, and is determined to help her get her finances back, as well as her dreams in London. The problem is, Magnus hates England and englishmen more than anything else in the world! In addition he wants a woman he knows he can never have!

Will Virginia's dreams come true? Is it wrong to desire a kind heroic man when you are in a loveless abusive marriage? Will her dream for a home for orphans and street urchins ever come true? Will her finances ever be restored? Can she ever have the titless, man of her dreams, desires, and heart? A true hero and the true prince of all men!

Watch the steam, smoke and sizzle come right off the pages with the dreams and desires of this star-crossed couple. A story about achieving your dreams and desires no matter what the cost.

Again Jennifer Trethewey blows me away with her golden pen and her superbly storytelling visions and talent. Another book that will touch your soul and melt your heart. An awe inspiring book that is absolutely unforgettable! It exactly the the type of book that historical romance readers will love.

Beautiful settings, magnificent dialogue, dashing hero and a stunning heroine. Also secondary characters that are absolutely brilliant! However the plotting is so exhilarating, that it will have readers holding their breath with anticipation, not knowing what could possibly happen next! This book is a fast quick paced, action packed, page turning, riveting romantic adventure. It is filled with abduction, abuse, treachery, murder, betrayal, lies, deception, mayhem, trust, faith, protection, respect, passion and love.

A book historical romance readers don’t want to miss. As it is a phenomenal story from prologue to epilogue that will stay with you long after you have finished. A definite shelf keeper that readers will want to reread again and again. Jennifer Trethewey is one of those talented authors that knows exactly how to bring readers into her stories and never letting go. It’s a rare quality that only very gifted authors have!

This is the third book, in the (Highlanders of Balforss) series which is absolutely phenomenal. It was a total delight to read. I could not put it down!

I can’t recommend “Forgetting the Scot” by Jennifer Trethewey enough! As all the books in the The Highlanders of Balforss series you can read them each as stand alone books too.

Hurray for highlander romance! One of my favourite escapist pleasures.

I'm hugely biased towards this sub-genre, possibly because my first kiss was with a young Scot who was wearing a kilt at the time. This book hit the nail even more squarely on the head, since the young gentleman in question was also called 'Magnus'...

But enough reminiscing, and on to the book review!

Virginia has a pretty harrowing backstory. She's married to an abusive husband, so abusive that she believes she can never have children, and when we first meet her she's imprisoned on a ship and destined for sale, along with four other women. But, as we know from the end of the last book in this series, she's rescued by the Balforss Scots.

I really enjoyed this set up. I love the story of the rescue, and the eventual transformation of the pirate ship into a trading vessel called "Gael Forss" (silly pun - not sure what it actually means because we're never told!). I also really enjoyed revisiting Balforss to see all the old faces. It had been a good long while since I read the first two books in this series, so it took a while for the characters and the places to come back to me, but they were reintroduced by the author in a way that made it easy to pick up where I had left off.

Mostly, I just loved the romance. It was really nicely paced, and I enjoyed the frisson of the forbidden, whilst knowing that Virginia was absolutely in the right morally because her husband was such a monster. A very elegant set up. The little hand touches between Virginia and Magnus were so gorgeously charged and well conceived. One comment I would make: after reading so much of Tessa Dare, this book definitely felt like it needed more sex!

Then there's the plot. There was one, but it was intricately linked with the romance, and I actually enjoyed that a lot. There was a neat conclusion to the Langley plot that I found satisfying.

Bulford was an excellent new addition to the cast, and it was lovely to see Peter and Ian again. I suspect Ian will be the next to get his own book, but I hope Peter will follow shortly afterwards.

Overall, this was very enjoyable and I look forward to the next book. This book is out TODAY and I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy.

Virginia was an excellent character. I felt great sympathy for her, and how wonderful to have a character in a highlander romance who isn't a virgin. I'm so bloody sick of fetishised 'loss of virginity' scenes in romance at the moment that it was just a breath of fresh air to be presented with a protagonist who didn't feel a 'pinch' in the first sex scene.

Forgetting the Scot
By Jennifer Trethewey
🔥🔥🔥🔥
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sadly enough Virigina Whitebridge
is trapped in a loveless, and horribly abusive marriage that seems to have no end in sight. The law says her abusive husband can do almost anything he wants to her so he has gone and taken her inheritance by lying. Now he's tried to kill her. She's abducted and ends up on a boat full of women taken to be sold as slaves. Now after a close escape, Virginia feels protected for the first time in her life, thanks to the Scotish Highlands and the Highlander Magnus Sinclair. Now she has decided that she has to go back to England despite the dangers, to reclaim what belongs to her. Even though it means leaving her heart in Scotland with the one man who has championed her through it all.

Magnus Sinclair has the worst luck he has fallen for a woman he can't have. Virginia is rich and titled and above all English. So to keep her safe he has to follow her to the one place he hates England. Where the boring, preening London Society has it's own rules. Rules that he doesn't abide by.

Despite omens from a fortune teller and dreams from a fellow highlander stating that nothing, but death awaits him in England Magnus has vowed to help Virginia and restore her fortune no matter the costs.
Will Magnus die at the hands of the English? Or will he live and be able to prove his love to Virginia?

Jennifer Trethewey writes a fabulous tale of love, death, anger, and happiness. There were so many twists and turns in this book I was never sure what was going to come next. I was amazed at the talent that this author has and will definitely read more of her books.

Jennifer Tretheway takes us on another amazing adventure, with her strong characters and wonderful prose. First the title told me that our Heroine could never forget the Scot, I mean why would you! Virginia finds herself in a terrible marriage to a man who had only wanted her money. Unexpectedly she is taken in broad daylight and ends up a ship with several other women! But as luck or in this case fate would have it, she is rescued by a Clan of Scottish men and she meets Magnus.
The two have a strong attraction, but of course she needs to go back to England to claim what is hers that her husband stolen. Magnus is determined to go with her and be her protector but England is the last place he wants to go.
This story is fast paced and the plot will have you guessing and afraid to take a breath. Action, suspense, passion and love is woven together with great secondary characters that will take you to the end. Cannot wait for the next book by this talented author.

I read the first two books in this series a couple of years ago and really enjoyed them. When I saw this one available on audible, I grabbed it and thoroughly enjoyed heading back to Balforrs and visiting with the Sinclairs. There are many characters in common with the earlier stories but it can be read as a standalone. This story opens with a bang. Virginia Whitebridge, Viscountess Langley, is kidnapped off the street and sold to a pirate captain to take to the West Indies to be sold to a wealthy plantation owner. The pirates get greedy and grab the wrong woman when they continue to stock their ship and the Sinclairs descend upon the ship. When they get rescued, Virginia wants to keep her identity secret as she does not want her husband, who probably was the one behind her kidnapping, to know that she is still alive.

The Sinclairs are all swoon worthy heroes. I love their attitude, bravery, loyalty and sense of what is right. They are willing to do whatever it takes to protect the women they have rescued. I loved Magnus, the male lead in this story. He always thought of himself as the ugly Sinclair and has grown a beard to cover most of his face. When he has to shave, the women are in awe of how handsome he is. Virginia has already fallen for him when he rescued her, but this made it harder to resist him. Magnus is a wonderful character; strong, determined, loyal and faithful, just what you would expect from a Highland hero. Virginia is small, attractive, smart, determined and caring. They make a great couple, but there is so much standing in their way. This is a steamy, historical romance with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. The writing flows well and the characters are all well developed. There is some spousal abuse in this one, so if that is something that you do not want to read about, then you might want to pass. If you enjoy historical romances with handsome Highlanders rushing to the rescue and finding love, you’ll probably thoroughly enjoy this story. This audiobook was narrated by Ruth Urquhart. I love listening to her Scottish accent, she does a great job with it. She differentiates the male and female characters well. Another narrator that I very much enjoy.

This is the story of Virginia, trapped in an abusive, loveless marriage to a cruel viscount who tries to have her killed. She is rescued by brawny highlander Magnus and his family and remains with them for quite awhile as she attempts to determine what to do next since her husband has reported her dead and claimed the insurance policy he had on her life.

I enjoyed this book, really I did, but I almost dropped the rating another star and probably would have if it weren't for the humorous bits. It has everything I'm a sucker for: a strong and caring hero, great secondary characters, a bit of intrigue, and plenty of steam. My main hang-up was the heroine. And not for the infidelity issues you might think. (I believe that any man who abuses his wife has broken his vows and she is not obligated to show him any loyalty after that). However, Virginia couldn't just leave well enough alone; she kept insisting she had to return to England to reclaim the inheritance he stole, though she had to know she'd never get that money back, and create a home for orphans. While this is a great and noble cause, it drove me crazy that she was willing to leave Magnus and break his heart despite him literally begging her to go with him. She believed he didn't love her enough because he wouldn't live in a city he hated for her and was offended that he'd ask her to give up her dream of the children's home in London. This just struck me as highly hypocritical because she was perfectly happy to ask him to and expect that he give up his dream for her. She finally comes to her senses and realizes, with more convincing from Magnus, that she can open a foundling home in Scotland with him, as there is just as much need there and we finally get our happy ending.

Given the experiences she had at the hands of her father and her first husband, I also found the heroine's continued naivete to be a bit tiresome and unbelievable and it just made me dislike her a bit. Magnus was a great hero, but him constantly having to be vulnerable and yet still being rejected by Virginia was a bit irritating. He was surprisingly lacking in self-confidence and I kept expecting Virginia to do more to improve that. Some parts of the story lagged a bit and could possibly be improved as far as flow is concerned, but overall I still enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

Virginia Whitebridge is trapped in a loveless, abusive marriage. The law says her husband can have whatever he wants from her so he's taken her inheritance even though it was bequeathed to her from her father. Then Virginia is abducted & finds herself trapped on a ship where more women join her until there are five of them ready to be sold in the West Indies. They are rescued & Virginia feels protected for the first time in forever, thanks to the Scottish Highlands and the Highlander Magnus Sinclair. It's just Magnus's luck that he's fallen for a woman he can't have. Virginia is rich, titled and English. He'll do anything to keep her safe & despite omens that death awaits him there, Magnus vows to help Virginia go to London and restore her fortune.
This is the second book in the series but stands on its own. We met Virginia & Magnus briefly in the first book. I thoroughly enjoyed the vast majority of the book but did find it hard to comprehend why on earth Virginia insisted on returning to England to have her money returned. A married woman even a member of the aristocracy had no legal standing & when she marries all her worldly goods became her husbands unless he deems it otherwise so she had a snowballs chance in hell of getting her money back. I realise that the return to England was part of the bigger picture but it just niggled. Otherwise the story flowed well, the characters were well fleshed. I loved Magnus & I certainly wouldn’t have left him! Virginia was a strong woman to have suffered abuse, been held captive & wanted to fight for orphans. I liked the humour in the story & found myself riveted & read the book in under a day
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I was given this book by Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. I rated this book 5 stars, which is well deserved.

It took me a while to really get into this book, however, as I began reading I ended up getting sucked in quickly. The characters, the story, the drama and the romance were all a huge hit with me. The story itself started out pretty quickly, however, it slowed down after the girls were saved from the pirates. This is where it was hard for me to stay focused, once I got passed the slow part I was hooked. The story flowed so well after that, and it had a surprising ending.

I will say that I loved Virginia as a character only because she cared more about children and others rather than herself. She was willing to sacrifice herself in order to save Jemima from her husband. Magnus was of course my favorite character, he was strong, sweet, sincere and even bullheaded. I think his stubbornness is what made me like him so much more. I hated that Virginia thought the children were more important to her than being in love and being happy. I know she loved children but she needed some time for herself before jumping right into helping others again. I'm glad the story ended with everyone having the things they love especially Virginia and Magnus.

I would recommend this book to anyone that loves historical romance, especially highlander romance. I give the author props for writing the ending a little differently than most other authors. When I thought the book would be over, it kept going and pulled me in more.

Virginia Whitebridge, Viscountess Langley is trapped in a loveless, abusive marriage, she finds out her husband has stolen her inheritance and now she’s been kidnapped in broad daylight. She’s eventually rescued by Clan Sinclair especially the Highlander Magnus Sinclair makes her feel more protected than she’s every felt in her entire life. Eventually she realizes she must go back to England, regardless of the danger, to reclaim what's hers even if it means leaving her heart in Scotland. Magnus Sinclair is captivated by Virginia from the very first when she was rescued. Thinking she was a single young woman he tried to woo her until she finally told him she was really married and still had a husband, a husband she suspected of trying to murder her. Magnus has the worst luck he’s fallen for a woman he can't have, Virginia is rich and titled and above all English and well above his station in life. His brother has predicted the death omen attached to a married woman, but Magnus vows to keep her safe as he has to follow her to the one place he hates England. A great story with intrigue, adventure and romance to make a perfect read you can’t put down until the HEA ending!!! This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

Virginia is in a loveless and abusive marriage. Her father sold her to this man for a title and her husband only wants her for her money.
Deciding that having her killed is the best road to his own happiness her husband hires a supposed assassin who has his own agenda and sells her to slavers who intend her for a brothel or a harem.
She is in the company of other women intended for the same.
Rescued from their fate by the Highlander Magnus Sinclair.
Scotland is not where she needs or wants to be but it is a dangerous road back to England and does she really want to leave her heart behind in the Highlands?

I have read this entire series and although they are each standalone titles they do have characters in common that tie them together.
I gave this book 4.4 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization.and a mild sensual rating of 3 of 5 flames. This story stands on it's own without need for heated scenes.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Magnus is magnificent!

As this is book 3 of 4 I have to say I am enjoying Ms Trethewey’s books the more I continue with the Balfour series. I love the way the 3 cousins interact. Alex, Declan and Magnus were lucky to grow up together in early 1800’s Scotland and even made it through a 2-year service as soldiers in His Majesty’s Royal Highland Regiment. Each man bringing something important to the group which continues into adulthood, where they are there for each other as counsel, and back up in fights when needed.

This book begins where Caya and Declan’s book ended; when the men rescue, Caya and Virginia (and 4 other ladies) from pirate smugglers. Virginia had unfortunately married the Viscount, Lord Langley, who was cruel and unfeeling, and cared nothing but the money she brought to the union. After 3 very unhappy years married to the fiend, Virginia found herself kidnapped by Langley’s men off the streets of London and sold into captivity to pirates. When Declan, Alex, Magnus, Ian “wee Peter” and others rescue the ladies off the pirate ship in Scotland, Virginia happened to fall into Magnus’ arms.

Virginia’s sordid and unhappy marriage comes out slowly and Magnus volunteers to champion Virginia when she returns to London as Langley has stolen her trust fund that was gifted to her by her father. Virginia has to return to London to confront Langley and try to get her life back; with the funds stolen from her by her husband, living separate from the evil Viscount.

Each book is special and unique in it’s own way. I love how Ms. Trethewey writes each character’s love match in ways where somehow the couple completes and fills each others’ wants and needs. When kidnapped, Virginia looses her spectacles and is very ‘nearsighted’. Magnus is big and strong and smitten at first glance with Virginia and pledges to be her champion, and is there to catch her when she falls. Such a good book! Ok, enough hints. You’ve got to read it to get the rest of the story.
Enjoy!

(Magnus & Virginia): TRIGGERS: kidnapping, domestic violence, trafficking. I love this series. From the narrator's accent to the way the author transports you back in time. This book however, starts a little differently as Virginia is married already but to a man who is not good. She's then attacked and kidnapped. Then there's a slight jump to the ship where Caya was found in the previous book. Yes, she's one of the captives taken by the pirates. The first person she meets besides the other women is Magnus and the attraction between both of them is immediate and strong. They try to keep their distance but can't. When the truth comes out about Virginia being married and how she ended up on the ship, Magnus is murderous and ready to go to Battle for the woman he's falling for. There's a lot of drama wrapped in this love story but it is a slow burn.

It's not good.

The characters were unintelligent and the plot was more than a little far-fetched. The love at first sight storyline could have been cute, but it was written in such a way as to make the main male character look like a dimwitted lovesick milksop. For some reason, the author seems to believe oral sex is the most scandalous and unmentionable thing a couple could do, hinting around the "French act," which was especially bizarre given it was a romance novel. I couldn't finish the book, it was too painful. The plot was redundant, the characters repeating the same inner dialogue over and over, to the point that if I had to hear one more time how wrong it was for them to want each other I may have lost my mind.

Loved it! It is perfectly romantic. For those of you who are somehow triggered by cheating. The viscountess does cheat on her murderous husband with the valiant Scot. I, personally, applauded her willingness to eschew convention and social stigma to chase her own happiness. No legal document can truly bond two people, especially when one of them had no choice. If you disapprove on the basis of religion, then I suggest you reference your source material. Most religions are based on the tenants of love and forgiveness. Magnus is the husband of her heart king before he is her husband in truth.

I downloaded this one for free on Audible not realizing it was the third in a series, which didn't make a huge difference as the characters from the previous books were in this one but I didn't feel like I was missing out on any huge piece of their story. It's an easy read and interesting enough, I am going to go backwards now and start with the first in the series just so I can fill in the gaps and continue with the whole series.

Love overcomes all.

A very enjoyable story of a family of Scots that welcome an English woman into their home. A Scot who falls in love with her and has to compete with her dreams of a home for homeless children. Her husband who is ruthless and tried to kill her. It is all tied up in the end very nicely.

1.75 stars? In all fairness, I do not like most Regency or historical books... I was going to round up to 2 stars but then the hit & just 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄.

I wasn't a fan of the MMC, nor did I care for how much focus there was on steam, not necessarily in action, but in thoughts.

Love the characters

Of course I just love the Sinclair's, but Bull became my favorite. He is so funny with the way he remembers names. Makes me laugh. Are we going to know Ian's story?

Breathtaking

This is my first Jennifer Trethewey book, bit definitely not my last. Filled with mystery and intrigue, braw highlanders and the dregs of London society, it was a delightful read from beginning to end.

Magnus is sensitive and a whiner. Lol honestly, he's cute!

I loved his thinking when he named George, "Goo", from Jemma's word for him,

He demoted FitzHarris to Goo again. LMAO

Magnus ♥️ Virginia

For a "stand alone" book, the author spent a lot of time telling about the other stories in the series. Most of it wasn't important to this story. She also repeated details so many times, it was getting old. Overall, I enjoyed the story line. (the narrator does not do male voices well.)

One of my favorites in this series since I picture Magnus as a gentle giant, a bear of a man, unless riled. Who doesn’t love Scottish Highlanders especially? A great adventure, don’t miss it! Highly recommend, 😍

I wanted to like this book as it had such a good story to tell. But the female protagonist frustrated me on so many levels and there were a few overly explained things that really did not need to be there. There were some good laughs though. Not too bad

DNF 55%

Pacing is slow, writing is all very repetitive inner dialogue and I don’t feel the chemistry or connection between the Magnus & Virginia.

I was interested in the whole terrible husband plot, but I can’t read another page of this to find out what happens.
