Wynter Roth (reluctantly) joined the New Earth![]()
"I quit believing."
"Well, thank God you've always been able to think for yourself."
When Magnus took the pulpit, he stared out at us in silence.Magnus holds Wynter and her sister captive, circling ever nearer as they grow older.
"Have I not told you what is to come?"
"You look so much like your mother," he said..."She was beautiful, too."But Wynter, the rebellious sister, never quite fit into the New Earth society - no matter how much she tried.
But all the while, something was crumbling inside me.Wynter manages to escape into the arms of one of her late-mother's best friend.
My faith.
"Okay then," I say. "Save the bacon, save the world."Overall - I was really impressed with this one.
“Conventional wisdom dictates that there’s an insurmountable divide—an entire dimension of eternity and space—between Heaven and Hell. But I can tell you it’s closer to a foot and a half.Throughout the book the reader will ponder and reassess which environment Wynter associates with Heaven and which one Hell. The characterisation of Wynter is wonderfully developed and the turmoil she faces trying to reconcile the teaching she grew up with. From the Enclave's charismatic leader, Magnus, whom she once believed to be God’s “Interpreter” on Earth to the real world she now struggles to adapt to, with its corrupt and dangerous influences. The confusion, yet determination, in her mind is discernible and it's easy for the reader to develop empathy towards Wynter.
The distance of a step.
Or a leap of faith.”
