I loved Spun Out with its sexy, intense cowboy Streeter , the by the books Sargent Bailey and you can’t forget Olivia, Streeter’s our of control daughter. The story was great. I love how they healed each others terrors from their past and present. Lorelei James never disappoints with her sexy and intense cowboys. Thanks for another great book. Can’t wait to read the next one to come out! Love me some cowboys!

I think this may be a big case of "It's me not you" and being distracted from the Corona virus info-dump overload. Never thought I would write that a Lorelei James book could be boring. Graphic, sexy, OTT, even gross yes, but boring...nope.

The hero is a widower with a young daughter with an attachment disorder.
The heroine has her own issues, family and otherwise.
The H's wife committed suicide.
The hero found her and there's some backstory.
The grieving mother of dead wife is struggling.

Where's the dead dog? No, there is no dead dog.

I may have to resort to Barbara Cartland.

You can show me those dark corners of yourself and I’ll help you shine a light on them, deal with them, chase them the fuck away without you havin’ to fear that I’ll abandon you when you need me the most. Ain’t happenin’, sweetheart. Ever.”

Oh.
My.
Heart.

This beautiful romance completely captured my heart and I never want it back. If single dads are your catnip, prepare to hand your heart and ovaries to Streeter Hale. There's something so incredibly sweet and endearing about this man. And it's not just his love for his adorable and rambunctious little girl. Streeter isn't a man that's been around the block. He married his high school sweetheart only to lose her in the worst way possible. Years later, the shadow of her death still follows him and his daughter's inability to connect to anyone but him is a daily reminder of everything that's he's done wrong. My heart broke for this man and everything he's been through. There's this quiet intensity to him that you can't help but fall in love with.

Bailey is a soldier that used the army to escape her not so sunny childhood. She may have a good relationship with her sisters, but even they don't know all of the secrets that she's determined to hide. Steeter and Bailey immediately clash, but underneath the glares and barbs, there's an undercurrent of attraction.

When it becomes evident that the rambunctious kids in their circle of family and friends can use someone like Bailey to give them some structure and discipline, Bailey sticks around longer than she expected to run a summer camp. It doesn't take long for her to fall for the sweet little girl with too much energy and sass right along with her sinfully sexy daddy.

I mean, y’all. This book. I don’t even have words. Sexy. Swoony. Emotionally gripping. Touching. Heartwarming. Tearjerker. Ok, so maybe I do have words🙃. But seriously. This romance was just everything. I loved the slight role reversal of Bailey being the one that really pursues Streeter and is more sexually experienced. I loved Streeter's sweet side and the way he peels back Bailey's layers effortlessly. I loved watching their hot and short-planned affair bloom into something neither of them expected.

This book touches on several deep and highly emotional subjects and I thought that the author handled them perfectly. She didn't shy away from the ugly details and the ramifications of them. She takes the issues head on and throws the reader right in with the characters. It was perfectly written. There's plenty of sizzle in typical Lorelei fashion, but it was so much more than just a romance. It was a beautiful story about second chances and finding love when you least expect it. It was yet another amazing addition to one of my favorite series and just another reason why I will never tire of this woman's writing. Ten books into the series and they just continue to get better and better!

Bailey’s supposedly on leave from the army, spending the summer with her sister, Harper and her kids after the birth of Harper’s newest, but Bailey hasn’t been completely honest with her sister. Bailey’s not only off for the summer, she’s out for good. The reasons are tough, and a year ago Bailey didn’t deal well with it, but she’s on the mend mentally, even if she’s keeping all of it to herself. Bailey ends up putting her skills as an army Sergeant to use when the parents of Split Rock see her potential for whipping their kids into shape, and she ends up commanding a kiddy bootcamp for the summer.

Streeter is a rancher at the Split Rock and doesn’t have much time for dating being a single dad since his daughter, Olivia, was six months old. His wife’s death left him angered, heartbroken and confused, and he still can’t figure the whole thing out. As a parent, my heart went out to Streeter! Olivia isn’t your average five-year-old; the past events have left her with issues, and she’s a handful. But Bailey’s style of no-nonsense handling breaks through to Olivia, putting Bailey on Streeter’s radar. Even more so when she moves next door.

Streeter and Bailey had some rough times, and I was happy that Streeter had Bailey to confide in. Baring intimate details that he never shared before and gaining some peace in the process. He gained peace and a lot of sexy times, lol! Man, this one was spicy!

I wish Bailey had been a little more forthcoming, but I do understand why she withheld. I was glad when it all came out. Depression and how it affects us was a major factor in this story, and I was happy to see the progress Bailey made being more open and honest with her family, and others and how healing that was. I really enjoyed Bailey and Streeter’s realistic and heartwarming journey to happiness!

As a side note, this can be read as a stand alone even though it’s book ten in the series.

4.5 Stars for Spun Out!

I’m such a sucker for a single dad romance, and boy did Lorelei deliver! Street was just so good and true. A real cinnamon roll hero, but as with all of Lorelei’s men, they have that delicious side of sexiness, and they know how to use it to turn their women out in the bedroom!! Have mercy! I did struggle with the first half of the story, but in hindsight I’m able to see how it was necessary in explaining Bailey’s reluctance or reservations. That girl had some secrets that had to be unlocked, and Lorelei brought them about perfectly. As always, no spoilers from me, just read this amazing book!

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I'm throwing in the towel at 40%.....

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this book, so I'm not going to rate it. So far it is a cute light, single dad romance. Both characters are fine. I think I'm just craving more suspense, and alpha-ness.

Cowboys are everywhere…

I never get enough of these Blacktop Cowboys and Streeter’s story was as emotional as I’d hoped it would be. His daughter was a drum-playing pip as she kept all the adults around her on their toes, her father and every nanny included. Bailey was staying with her sister while she silently dealt with life-changing issues. She never dreamt her military career would segue into boot camping children. Hilariously, it did…

Cowboy, cowboys everywhere and Streeter, well, he was a broody one. Devoted to his daughter, he wanted everything for her. Bailey was confident in the military, as a civilian, not so much. She was hiding a lot as she wrestled with issues she didn’t share with anyone. Until now…

This was a solid entry in a much loved series. Emotional, full of secrets painfully revealed, Streeter and Bailey’s romance was all about honesty and support and of course, love… ~Diane, 4 stars

Good entry in an enjoyable series. A single father and a woman mustering out of the military for reasons explained in the story. This has been the only consistently readable LJ series for me. Rough Riders was too raunchy, and her NA series is too juvenile for my tastes. The characters in this series are more real, with real life issues (especially in this book). Really liked the first half, then it leveled out for a bit when the sex got going. And the ending was a bit too much drama. But overall, it was a good, realistic romance.

I wish LJ still wrote the suspense novels she wrote under the name Lori Armstrong, though. I really enjoyed those books.

Ahhhh...where to begin??

How about a confession or two??

First one: This series has been one of my absolute favorites for many, many years and I get all kinds of happy when I get to spend a few hours with the Muddy Gap crew.

Second one: Bran and Harper (Saddled & Spurred) are my fav couple of the series. Even after all this time, they are still the ones that I NEED to have updates on ~ even if they are just in passing.

So, with the Turners being my fav’s it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that I did a happy dance that Bailey was finally getting her own HEA, especially since both of her sister’s had already gotten theirs, and this book gave me everything I could have wanted and didn’t know I wanted.

I adored Bailey, and not only because she is Harper & Liberty’s baby sister, but because she was pretty damn amazing. She’s sassy, sweet and strong in more ways than one. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind, but isn’t abrasive ~ at least not unless the situation calls for it. Streeter…this man. My heart hurt for him. He’s been through so much and outside of giving his all to his daughter, he is simply living a half life for himself. But as things progressed and he started to truly live, I loved getting to know the man who was that heady mix of panty melting alpha AF goodness and heart warming vulnerability.

Bailey and Streeter’s journey definitely started off on an interesting foot, but I loved how everything played out for them. They had this flow between them that despite all the obstacles they faced, I had no doubt they’d come out stronger in the end. And they did. The bantering was on point, the smexy was HAWT and I loved how they truly appreciated everything about each other. The big bump in the road was and wasn’t a surprise, cryptic I know, but when it was exposed everything that led up to that point made sense and though the fall out was intense, I loved how everything worked out for both of them in the end.

This was a great read, and a great addition to the series. I was hooked from the start and really didn’t want it to end. This one tackles some pretty heavy topics that could be triggers for some, but all were handled with respectful and compassionate hand and gave depth to the characters involved. And speaking of characters...this baby is chock full of amazing moments with so many of the Muddy Gap crew I’ve come to love as the series has progressed that it made my heart all kinds of happy. Obviously getting to catch up with the Turner’s and the McClain’s made me all kinds of happy but seeing how almost everyone was doing was awesome, and the Mud Lilies were, as always, a joy to have pop on in.

Note: While you can read this one as a stand-alone, I honestly believe you’ll get a lot more out of it if you start at the beginning of the series and work your way through so that you’ll get the full impact of all that happens in this baby.

REVIEW: 4.25 stars- SPUN OUT is the tenth instalment in Lorelei James’ contemporary, adult BLACKTOP COWBOYS erotic, romance series. This is thirty-six year old Split Rock Ranch foreman, widower and single father Streeter Hale, and thirty year old, US Army soldier Sgt. Bailey Masterson’s story line. SPUN OUT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Bailey is Liberty Masteron’s sister (Hillbilly Rockstar#6) and Streeter is Tobin Hale’s brother (Hang Tough #8).

NOTE: The story line focuses on issues of depression and suicide that may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Bailey and Streeter) SPUN OUT follows the building relationship between thirty-six year old ranch foreman Streeter Hale, and thirty year old, US Army soldier Sgt. Bailey Masterson. On leave from the army, Sgt. Bailey Masterson finds herself struggling to fit in upon her return home. Volunteering to help run her sister’s struggling clothing store (Wild West Clothiers), and look after her sister’s rambunctious children, Bailey is asked if she would like to take over the Split Rock Ranch and Resort summer day camp but our heroine offers to run a military style boot camp instead. Enter Streeter Hale, whose five year old daughter is among the children about to come under the command of Sgt. Bailey Masterson. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Streeter and Bailey, and the potential fall-out as Bailey keeps too many secrets from the man with whom she will fall in love.

Streeter Hale is a widower raising his five year old daughter, a young child with emotional issues that are often uncontrolled. Meeting Bailey Masterson finds Streeter thinking about stepping out of his comfort zone, something he hasn’t done in a very long time. Bailey Masterson struggles with her attraction to Streeter Hale knowing her time at Split Rock Ranch comes with an expiry date but Bailey is keeping secrets from family and friends, secrets she believes are going to affect her relationship with our story line hero.

The relationship between Bailey and Streeter is one of immediate attraction but Streeter struggles with work and home life, leaving very little time for anything else. Agreeing to ‘casually’ date, Bailey offers a no-strings attached relationship, a relationship that is about to turn into something more. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate but I struggle with the author’s use of a certain four-letter word that I dislike in my romance story lines.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Streeter’s five year old daughter Olivia; Streeter’s brother Tobin and his wife Jade (Hang Tough); Streeter’s former in-laws, several nieces and nephews on both sides of the relationship; Bailey’s sister Harper and her husband Bran (Saddled and Spurred #2), Renner and Tierney Jackson plus Janie and Abe (owners of Split Rock Ranch)and a large number of ranch hands.

SPUN OUT is a story of grief and acceptance; depression and desperation; struggle, second chances, friendship, romance and love. The premise is engaging, heart breaking, and captivating; the characters are broken, coping, colorful and energetic; the romance is seductive and intense. SPUN OUT focuses on the affects of depression and suicide on those struggling to cope but also in the aftermath and on those left behind to move forward after a devastating loss.

Reviewer’s note: I know there are different opinions on trigger warnings, but because I know some situations can be hard for people I will warn you upfront that this book discusses suicide, talks about a suicide scene, and the way it affects people left behind.

Some authors consistently bring it to the table and Lorelei James is one of those authors. I’ll admit I was anticipating this story, this pairing, but was curious to see how it would play out; if they’d work for me given their very different lives, but Ms. James not only pulled it off she did it while showing these characters strengths, weaknesses, and complicated pasts. I loved that she didn’t shy away from difficult topics, that she let her characters show a wide range of emotions, and that while they had some obstacles to overcome they were mature enough to work through them together. Heartfelt and emotional but also raunchy and sexy, Spun Out is everything I expect from this author and more.

Streeter Hale’s life was turned upside down 4 ½ years ago when his wife committed suicide and left him with his 6 month old daughter, a whole lot of questions, grief, and anger. After being basically cut out of this family’s ranching operation, Streeter landed on his feet with the help of his youngest brother and a part-time job at the Split Rock Ranch enabling him to care for his young daughter who has turned into a smart, precocious 5 year old. His life has been family and work which is why when he meets Bailey Masterson, the intense and immediate attraction he feels for her knocks him right out of his boots.

After over a decade in the military Bailey Masterson is at a crossroads in her life, so spending time with her sister’s family in Wyoming on an extended leave while figuring it out seems like a good idea. She plans to help Harper in any way she can now that she has four children and a busy business, but soon finds herself roped into running a once a week boot camp for the employee’s children at the Split Rock and moving in right next door to “green-eyed Daddio” and his daughter.

Let me be clear, Streeter and Bailey’s relationship starts out as pure lust and the agreement that they are having a summer fling while she is in town, but the more time they spend together, the more they talk and really begin to respect, like, and get to know one another. Streeter opens up a lot to Bailey, like he’d been waiting for someone to talk to other than his brother who is really busy with his wife and children. Bailey doles out bits and pieces, never fully opening up something it takes Streeter awhile to figure out. During this time they enjoy each other fully and spend quality time both one on one and together with Olivia, his daughter.

I really loved the way this author brought several issues into the forefront in this book; depression, suicide, a child who thinks outside the box and moves to the beat of her own drum (something I have experience with and she was spot on with the child’s behavior) and more, but I don’t want to give away too much so I’ll let readers discover that on their own.

Whenever I review a book that leaves me feeling so full and satisfied, I have a hard time expressing myself and feel I never do it justice. So, I’m just going to say, Lorelei James does not disappoint, despite Spun Out being book ten in this series, the story was fresh and new, the writing crisp, and I was easily transported to the Split Rock Ranch and sucked into the roller coaster of emotions this book brought forth. I loved every minute of it.

Thunk, thunk......Be still my heart.

Spun Out was exactly everything I hoped it would be and more!

After returning from a stint in the army, Bailey Masterson returns back “home” to Wyoming for the summer to help her sister Harper out with her young kids while trying to figure out where her own next step in life will be. While doing a boot camp for kids stint at the Split Rock Ranch & Resort, Bailey meets single dad Streeter Hale and his five year old daughter Olivia.

And....whew Streeter is 100% of what dreams are made of. He really was the perfect hero and perfect for Bailey!

-He was the calm to her storm and she was fire he needed to return the light to his eyes.- my thoughts on this couple.

While Streeter was far from being an Alpha hero, he wasn’t a pushover either. He was just really a great man.

I loved Streeter’s daughter Olivia and applaud the author for writing such a unique child character.

This book earned 5 huge stars from me.

*This story, the writing, the character relationships, the heart of the story, and the steam factor reminded me a lot of the authors early work that made me fall in love and continue to be a huge fan of hers.*

Being a single parent is never easy. For Streeter – the pitfalls in life have mounted on his shoulders. Adding to the pressures of losing his wife, Streeter is responsible for raising a head-strong child – Olivia. It is not an easy task, but it is a necessity that Streeter feels slipping through his grasp. Life at Split Rock is the saving grace that Streeter needs to make it through each passing day.

Bailey Masterson is trying to deal with the reality of civilian life. Looking for a place to get her bearings, Bailey heads to Split Rock Ranch to seek solitude with her family. This change comes with the realization that the children of Split Rock are out of control. With an offer of employment that will use her military skills in an unexpected way, Bailey agrees to have a boot camp to get the children of ranch employees in line. What Bailey didn’t expect was to end up living next to Streeter and Olivia.

With a routine in place that will not only benefit herself, Bailey decides to dip her toes into the perks of living at the ranch. Streeter is nothing like Bailey expects, but he certainly offers more than a romp in the sheets. As the boot camp swings into action, Bailey discovers there is more to Streeter than meets the eye. Mounting responsibilities weigh on Bailey’s shoulders, but will her attraction to Streeter prove to be the incentive needed to stick around the ranch?

Spun Out is the latest release in the Blacktop Cowboys series by Lorelei James. Readers will enjoy peeling back the layers to Bailey’s hard as nails personality. In spite of being so caring, Bailey is a military woman through and through. That mindset brings its own set of challenges to light. Streeter knows the meaning of hard work. As a single dad who has experienced his share of hardships, Streeter needs someone who knows how to push through his guarded exterior. As a reader watching this romance unfold, you will find yourself completely wrapped up in the nuances of this story.

Make sure you visit the Split Rock Ranch…..Bailey and Streeter will make the journey worth the anticipation!! A great addition to the Blacktop Cowboys series!

1. Lorelei James is my favorite author; but, every now and then, I seem to forget. I might not read one of her books in months, I will fall-in-love with a new author, or something else happens that makes me pause when asked "who is your favorite author?" Then, I read another LJ book and am reminded that she's my favorite and her cowboys are everything I could ever ask for.

2. This was such a great ending to a great series. I loved the series overall, but did not like Book 8 or Book 9 which were originally going to be the final books in the series. I am so glad LJ added another book to make sure that she ended this series on the perfect note.

3. I loved Bailey and Street's chemistry. Their romance was relatively angst free until the climax and they had no real fights or bumps in the road, which I appreciate. They were sweet, endearing and patient with each over which I enjoyed. Also, I loved that Streeter was so shy until he wasn't ...

4. This book was much steamier than the last few books in the series and I LOVED IT! Streeter was a dirty talker and this felt like vintage LJ with the best HEA.

5. I am going to miss this series so much and I hope LJ starts another cowboy series ASAP!!!

Spun Out by Lorelei James is a sweet and sizzling hot romance that is an uplifting story of healing, new beginnings and love. Although this newest release is the tenth installment in the Blacktop Cowboys® series, it can be read as a standalone.

Bailey Masterson reluctantly returns to Wyoming while she figures out her future. Her military career is in flux and she is in the midst of determining what she wants to do next.  On the surface, Bailey appears relatively well-adjusted, but there is a sense that something serious is bubbling underneath the surface.  While she remains friendly and outgoing, she is rather tight-lipped about herself. Bailey is instantly attracted to Streeter and she has few reservations about indulging in a no strings fling with the hot, single father.

Shattered by the death of his wife years earlier, Streeter Hale is a devoted single dad to five year old Olivia. The years since his wife's death have not been easy, but Streeter has carved out a life that works for him and his daughter.  He does not date and he spends most of his time with his family.  Ready to make some much needed changes to his life, Streeter is stunned by his reaction to Bailey Masterson.

Olivia is a precocious little girl who is quite smart and she is an energetic bundle of energy.  She has a unique personality and she is a refreshingly non-perfect little girl.  Streeter's scenes with Olivia are heartwarming and quite humorous.

Bailey and Streeter are vibrantly developed, three-dimensional characters who are dealing with true to life, relatable issues.  Although their relationship has a shelf-life, Bailey is genuinely interested in Streeter and she is quick to convince him to talk about his past.  Streeter gains confidence in himself and eagerly explores his previously untapped sexual fantasies and desires. Their bedroom scenes are extremely hot and boundaries are pushed as they give in to their mutual passion.

Spun Out is a delightfully charming romance that also deals with some very serious subject matter.  The characters are quite endearing and wonderfully developed. Lorelei James perfectly balances the darker topics with humor and the resulting story has plenty of depth and substance. I absolutely loved and highly recommend this  very realistic addition to the Blacktop Cowboys® series.

You had me at single dad. Streeter was so endearing. I fell in love with him early on. I love a good guy. I’m so sick of men that sleep around. I feel like that is all there is in books anymore. This is what I’m looking for in a guy! The first half was slow to me and I could understand Baileys reservations. Why did she act the way she did!? As soon as secrets wee revealed, we got into the meat of the story and I loved it. I love when a book goes way deeper emotionally than I was expecting. This book does have some triggers, so there is that aspect to watch for, but it was also more than I expected it to be.

Lorelei James’ newest release Spun Out is a must read and quickly became one of my favorites in her Blacktop Cowboys series. When military girl Bailey Masterson returns home for the summer to help her sister at Split Rock Ranch, she meets single dad Streeter Hale and his young, feisty daughter Olivia. The chemistry between these two characters is amazing and the slow burn of their relationship is scorching hot. Both have dealt with some very serious issues in the past, so be prepared to ride an emotional rollercoaster in this story. This is book 10 in the series and while can be read as a standalone, I recommend at least reading BTC books 2 & 8 to introduce you to these two.

Spun Out, written by Lorelei James, was a pleasure to read. The characters were well-developed, had a nice pace when it came to how fast the story went by.

The storyline hit on several topics that we don't hear or talk about; Lupus and Postpartum Depression, otherwise known as postnatal depression.

The author did an excellent job of presenting these topics. It was done very informatively, not overly done to where it was the plot of the entire book.

If I had to pick my favorite character, I have to choose Olivia. It was just something about Olivia that I couldn't wait to see what she did next throughout the story.

If any book deserves more than five stars, Spun Out would be that book.

A very delightful and appealing Western romance, one I certainly recommend to any reader.

**** Please talk to someone, if you think or you know of someone suffering from Postpartum Depression ****

Spun Out is funny, sweet, sexy and filthy. It also packs a punch. It's a single dad romance that deals with a lot of heavy issues yet has a lightness to it. I loved it especially the characters, the author did a great job with crafting them. I highly recommend this book.

Spun Out
This book was like no other book in the Black Top Cowboys series, it's a shame that this is the last book contracted for this series, praying that there will be snippets later down the line on all of the people in this series.
In this book, you read about 2 people who had awful situations happen in their life and how they felt like there was no one there who knew what they had gone through, until they met each other.
In the beginning of this book you get drawn into the story by the meeting of Bailey and Streeter and then you get hooked by the situations that always ended up bringing these two together. About half way through the book, you are already in love with these two people and it's like you're right there watching how this plays out.
In the last 3 or 4 chapters everything comes to a head and you will need Kleenex to wipe your eyes so you can finish the book. It was an amazing book and I finished it in one day. It had me so hooked.
I really don't think you will be disappointed in this book should you decide to purchase it (I really think you should).
Lorelei, you have done it again.

A sweet coming home and starting over story. Spun Out, Blacktop Cowboy #10, by Lorelei James has so much laughter and heart. From the father/daughter relationship to the relationships of everyone on the ranch, it will make you feel right at home.

Bailey is coming home to regroup and figure out her next step. Helping out her sister in her shop, she sees a little thief running through the store. Bailey decides to pursue this little thief and that’s where the antics and laughter begins. What she walks into is hilarious! Since Bailey happens to be in town and has military training, who else would be the best as running a summer boot camp for the kids on the ranch. Bailey brings it and I love her interactions with each child.

A tall drink of water in wranglers, work boots and cowboy hat, Streeter Hale, ranch hand, is a single father and his one and only focus is his daughter, Olivia, the little thief. Oh, sweet sweet Olivia. I fell in love with her. Between her and the other ranch children antics, I felt right at home, as if they were my kids and nephews. Streeter has his hands FULL with Olivia. So many times I was laughing out loud at her antics. There are also so many sweet scenes between Streeter and Olivia.

This is a book of real-life issues. Real-life, really hard issues and what makes this book is reading about the family and friends working through these issues. That is what makes this book full of heart, loyalty, and love. No, Lorelei James did not skirt around the issue, she dived right in. Each situation was written beautifully. The relationship between Streeter and Bailey was not the main focus of this story to me. The focus, in my opinion, was Olivia and her building the relationship with Bailey. Which was beautiful. The relationship between sisters. The relationship between friends and coworkers.

@loreleijamesauthor does it again with another amazing western romance!

Streeter, hard working rancher and single dad raising a feisty little girl, meets Sergeant Bailey Masterson.

Bailey is home helping her big sis Harper at the split rock as she figures her life out after a medical leave from the military.

Who knew Bailey and Streeter could end up being what's best for each other!

I loved this story because it hit hard with real life issues. Life isn't always roses and rainbows but even in hard times we can find the positive side!

Tenth in the Blacktop Cowboys erotic Western romance series set in Wyoming and revolving around the people living and working around the Split Rock Ranch and Resort. The couple focus is on Bailey and Streeter Hale...and Streeter's little girl, Olivia. Um, I should add a disclaimer that Spun Out is mildly erotic.

My Take
It's a tale of family, pride, and guilt. I do like how James pulls in the issues of psychiatric disorders — the bad and the good that can result from having them and understanding how to deal with them.

In general each story in the series starts with a primary character whose love life sucks, and then they meet — with plenty of explosive moments — their opposite. James does come up with some interesting actions that "fix" those damaged by past family issues. I do love that they always have a happy ending that sinks them into a warm family environment. Just not necessarily their original family. A nice touch of reality.
"Bailey looked at Harper. 'Tell him this is my baby time and he's not allowed to horn in.'"
As for erotic, each story within the series has a different level of eroticism...and this one is only slightly erotic.

Ooh, plenty of back history comes out between Bailey and Harper. Including that desire Bails had for stability.

It's action and characters with Olivia the devil, lol. On the opposite side is that Gramma Deenie...oy...talk about denial! As for Streeter, while I can't like his giving in to Olivia so much, he does try with her, and he refuses to give up. That Bailey... Okay, to be fair, it's that James! Humph...she did a grand job of keeping me wondering just what was wrong with Bailey. Geez.

Of course, James does keep the interest (and anticipation of future stories) up with her side stories about Zack and Ted, the antics of all those kids, the plans the "good" Hale boys have for their ranch, and just what the heck does Harper have planned for her future...besides the kids and Bran. And I gotta confess that I'm dying to see what James does with the evil Hales!

For sure y'all'll be cracking up when you read about the first day at the Split Rock daycare. So many truths in that! I can remember back to my own childhood...lol.

James does a sneaky (primarily) third person dual protagonist point-of-view from Bailey's and Streeter's perspectives. Okay, so when I say sneaky, I should expound on that and say James' transitions between the two are sooo smooth.

And I love that there's a thirteen-years-later epilogue catching us up with Olivia's achievements,

The Story
There are a slew of Split Rock employees whose kids need a daycare — and discipline.

And Bailey..oh, Bailey. She's got plenty of issues with the Army... As for Harper, she is so focused on her kids and the new baby that the store is failing.

Then there's the daddio in denial, spoiling his daughter out of guilt. A guilt that includes Streeter's worry that he never saw Danica's depression.

The Characters
Sergeant Bailey "Bails" Masterson had to quit the military — she has issues. Her sisters include Liberty who is married to a famous rockstar Devin McClain ( Hillbilly Rockstar , 6; three-year-old Nikki is their daughter; Liberty also got a promotion as senior security advisor to A-list clients) and Harper who is married to Bran Turner ( Saddled and Spurred , 2). They have three boys: Tate, Jake, and Gage and three-month-old Angel. The girls' vicious slut of a mother left as soon as she found a meal ticket away from her kids.

Streeter Hale is a widowed daddy ( Hang Tough , 8, and Racked and Stacked , 9) working as a ranch foreman in a job-sharing position Split Rock Ranch and Resort and making excuses for his little hellion, Olivia, and her displacement disorder and a passion for playing drums. Pepper is Streeter's horse. Danica had been the woman Streeter loved for fifteen years. Wally will become Olivia's kitten. Gramma Deenie Joyce is a whack job and Danica's mother, i.e., Olivia's grandmother who divorced her accountant husband, Grandpa Steve Joyce, over her grief.

Jade is married to Streeter's brother, Tobin Hale ( Hang Tough , 8) ,and they have two kids under the age of two: two-year-old Amber and his six-month-old son, Micah. Streeter and ( Hang Tough , 8) went into business together, All Hale Livestock. Streeter is building up their herd while Tobin is doing what he loves most, experimenting with genetics.

Hale Ranch is the Hale family ranch out of which Streeter was forced by his father, Dan, and his lazy oldest brother, Driscoll. You'll hate 'em.

Those unfortunate babysitters include Mrs McCutcheon who's given up saying anything nice. Rock Summer Day Camp is onsite daycare while Marianne Smolen meets with new clients for the Helping Hands Daycare Co-op with Asa and Meghan part of the rotation.

The Split Rock Ranch and Resort is...
...a dude ranch owned by Renner and Tierney Jackson with two kids, Isabelle and Rhett ( Wrangled and Tangled , 3). Wild West Clothiers is Harper's fun and funky western retail shop. Penelope is Harper's full-time employee; Jessamyn is her daughter. Zack (Tobin's best buddy) and Ted are ranch hands.

The Split Ranch is putting together a daycare that will include Brianna (her parents are Lainie and Hank Lawson from Corralled , 1); Cody and Jason; Tate, Jake, and Gage Turner are Harper and Bran's kids; Olivia whose plan was to steal; and, Tyler and Dylan Lawson are Janie (the Split Rock’s general manager) and Abe Lawson's kids ( Wrangled and Tangled , 3); Jessamyn; Isabelle and Rhett who build the table forts.

Dr August "Fletch" Fletcher is the local veterinarian. He's married to Tanna Barker ( Turn and Burn , 5).

The Mud Lilies are…
…a group of feisty old ladies that include Garnet Evans "Grandma G", Pearl, Maybelle, Bernice who runs the Beauty Barn, Tilda, and Vivien.

Amy was Bailey's friend in high school who helped her. Moody runs a repair shop. Logan is the boyfriend who dumped Bailey. Ravenna is Devlin's hair stylist, and she don't take no sh*t. Snicker.

Chuck is Bailey's military case manager in Casper. Dr Waverly is Bailey's military counselor based in Casper. Olivia's counselor, Dr Stafford, is based in the same building.

The Cover and Title
The cover has a hazy orange background...must be all that dust in the deep orange sky that gradates down to a pale peach behind the brown mountains with a stream running at their feet, and the golden grass of the plains with its herd of horses at the bottom. Streeter faces us with his beige cowboy hat-clad head tilted down, examining the oiled rope he's gathering up in his hands. His blue denim shirt is partially unbuttoned with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and blue jeans on those lean-looking legs. As for the text, all but the title is in white, which is in yellow with a shadow. The upper left corner is a testimonial with a white badge on the right. The series information is above the title with an info blurb at the bottom atop the author's name.

The title is a reference to Bailey's and Olivia's condition, for they're both Spun Out.
