I’ve always gotten what I wanted by the power of my charm. Or simply by force.
Not this time.
I shouldn’t have kissed her, but I had no idea who she was.
Gorgeous, mesmerizing, hot as f**k, and more than ten years younger than me–Adriana, billionaire heiress. And the mafia prince’s girlfriend. The same guy I’m after on my current mission.
I shouldn't have taken that sinful taste of her. She was my kind of danger, and I only want more.
When an assassin stalks her, I jump in and save her life.
But I’m no white knight and she knows it.
He makes me a deal–he'll give me what I want if I keep her safe.
Dammit, are you kidding me? Bodyguard the queen of my dirtiest fantasies? The most off limits, forbidden woman I’ve ever wanted?
I have no choice.
Suddenly we're all headed to the Greek islands on their luxury yacht.
I need to focus. I need to stop wanting Adri. I need to get off this yacht alive.
One lie, one kiss, one bullet all lead to an unlikely alliance Adri and I never saw coming. And an explosive passion neither of us can deny.
I had no idea what I was in for.
–Lose your heart to ambitious mafia fixer, Turo and Adri in their slow burn steamy romance adventure standalone. Sizzling with underworld bad boys, angsty twists and turns, and fiery heat, set in a decadent jet-set Mediterranean playground–
*This slight age gap Greek island billionaire romantic suspense action adventure novel with bodyguard and mafia crime elements is intended for mature readers only. It contains adult language, violence, and graphic scenes*
I daydream all the time, "what if" way too much, and am a lip-biting romantic. And I don't want to be cured of any of those. Ever. A New Yorker who now lives on a beach in beautiful Greece, I've been writing since forever because I need to. I have two children's books traditionally published and I've self-published my romantic suspense series, spinoff standalones, and a historical. Join me in my world!
After reading just the prologue, I knew straight away that DAGGER IN THE SEA was going to consume me. I’ve been waiting on Turo DeMarco for what feels like a lifetime, and now that he is finally here, I can safely say that my heart belongs to him. Cats writing is gritty, its beautiful and poetic. The descriptions of Greece are absolutely stunning, and you cant help but want to pack a suitcase and hop on the first flight out.
“Blasted high in one wall was a huge hole, an open window to the sky. We climbed up a ledge just under it and swallowed in the view of the entire town laid out before us in one long expanse of whitewashed houses, accents of blue and terracotta, domed churches, the white capped small waves of the turbulent water either side.”
Fans of Cat Porter will remember that we briefly met Turo before, in Finger and Lenores story. That small glimpse was enough to leave me wanting more, and I knew that his book would be something special. This man is dangerous, he is intense and sensual, and he is hotter than Hades.
“A few small lines marked the skin around his eyes, the corners of his mouth. He was older than me, but by how much? Certainly in his thirties, but he was as fit as any twenty something i knew. A defined chest, back and shoulders were evident under that lean cut suit. A suit that was finely tailored...Decadence packaged crisply and cleanly. Elegant sophistication with an edge. Oh, that edge.”
As soon as Turo meets Adriana, there is instant chemistry. Theirs is something of a slow burn, but i enjoyed every minute of it.
“Our eyes locked. And in that thunderous split second, my life as i knew it changed course forever.”
Adri is my favourite type of heroine. Yes, she is beautiful, but she owns it. She is strong, independent and knows exactly what (or shall we say, who) she wants, and goes out and gets it. I just adore her and Turo together. While he is the rough, turbulent seas, Adri comes along and soothes him. She is the calm to his storm, and they are absolutely perfect for each other.
I never had any doubt that I would fall in love with this book, but I wasn’t prepared for the epic journey it would take me on. DAGGER IN THE SEA is a romantic suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. This epic tale of lies, betrayal, passion and love, is the reason why Cat Porter tops my list of must-read authors.
I absolutely loved reading this! I was hooked from the very first page. I laughed, cried, gasped…I loved the characters; I loved the development of the story and found that it told the story with a certain finesse that explained the background for everything well. The hero…yeah…I loved him! He is so complicated and different- he is definitely not your typical character of a romance book. The author has created a very powerful novel, and Turo, the hero, is hard not to like. The story isn't that dark and graphic, the twists and turns are so good and there are lots of revelations that will keep you reading this book. I also loved the way romance between Turo and Adriana grew in this book. You will learn about Greeks and Greece as much as you will enjoy a good mafia romance. I am Greek so I could relate to the love story. An easier book to read because of that. The writing style is great and it grabs your attention from the beginning. Cat Porter is definitely a writer to watch out for. I enjoyed the tension, the passion, the twist & turns kept me glued to the book. Overall, I enjoyed the book very much, it’s a keeper for me.
"Dagger in the Sea" was so completely different to what I was expecting. I was prepared for the usual gritty mafia type romance and what I got was something else entirely. This was such an in-depth deep glimpse into a different world and culture. One steeped in history and mythology; which in turn then filled me with an almost gripping inner excitement. Forget the Mafia connection; that is not really what this book is about; I mean its there in the background with partial exposure throughout; but that is not what "Dagger Of The Sea" ultimately concentrates on. At the centre of this fascinating tale, we have Adrianna and Turo and this is their journey and also their destination. It's this we ultimately focus on; the simplistic connection developing between these two very similar but also so different individuals; exploring further the fresh feelings this new pair of lovers have for each other and as an added bonus this is all set against the stunning backdrop of simple greek island life. This simple lifestyle also contrasts beautifully the differences in Adri's usual existence. exposed to so much money and privilege I'm amazed at her unspoilt persona. There is so much going on to hold the reader's attention here. which is a really good thing as this really is quite a lengthy read. One with very well developed characters and fantastic supporting side cast. This is a really jam-packed ride; one that managed to keep my attention throughout without showering me in unwanted angst. The love story at the centre here is beautiful and believable and it made such a nice change to just experience two people falling hook line and sinker without planting unnecessary obstacles in their path for shock value. I liked both Adri and Turo equally and it was only certain little niggles that pulled this down slightly for me; they were mainly just personal preferences. This was so well written and had a fantastic style of narration. My first introduction to this author and I am pleased to impart that it won't be my last. This one was definitely a great read that I am happy to recommend. Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of "Dagger In The Sea" of which I have reviewed voluntary. All opinions expressed are entirely my own. Reviewed By Beckie Bookworm https://www.facebook.com/beckiebookworm/ www.beckiebookworm.com
I’ve got my bags packed and I’m ready to go! After reading Dagger, I immediately gathered info online and checked on getting a passport because mark me, my husband and I are going one day! This is the power that Cat Porter holds over you as you read her books, and this is why she is a must read author for me all the time. The visual imagery that Cat uses to describe the places and how they look, the smells, food, how something feels, or tastes was truly remarkable to experience. I felt at times I could feel the Aegean blue mist on my face.
Where can I even begin with Turo and Adriana. Their story was such a delicious slow burn, and yet the sexual tension and feels that they had for each other, but suppressed, I could literally feel in my belly. They reached that point of a neutron star collision and damn..the heat from these two. Such a suspenseful, gritty, sexy read and wow, what a love story!!
This will be a book I reread often just to get the feels of Greece and to experience that love all over again. It’s inspired the foodie in me to experiment with Greek cuisine as well. Bravo Cat! What a masterpiece!!
I love Cat’s writing. Her books are not your typical Mafia or MC Romance were all is blood and sex. Dagger in the Sea has so much more to just be call a simple mafia book. This is also a Greek lesson, History lesson, a journey and an adventure. You get suck into this book from the very first chapter and let yourself be transported all around the Mediterranean Lands through Cat’s eyes. It’s a complete journey where every detail is exceptional and a sure way to provide the reader a sensory overload. You will be able to travel to every scenery, taste the wine in your lips, savor every dish consumed, feel the sun and salty water of the Mediterranean Ocean on your skin and the touch of a powerful man all over your body. This will be like having your own personal travel guide. Don’t worry guys you still getting all the gun blazing, car chasing, blood, burning passions and the forbidden as any amazing Mafia Romance should be.
Let’s talk a bit about our passionate couple. I’ll try my best to not give away too much because this book need to be an individual experience. I would hate to damage any readers journey.
Adriana fell into the arms of Turo and was an instant magnetism. Two sensual souls brought together by chance. They both know what they want and not afraid to go after it. A simple heated encounter. One kiss, to indulge in pure pleasure. This casual encounter was not what they expected because the Greek Gods had other plans in mind for this two.
Turo DeMarco my oh my. Talk about dark, dangerous, sexy and brooding. He is the epitome of MAFIA POWER AND GLAMOUR. I would completely let myself be corrupted and consume by him. At thirty three years, he is every woman fantasy of a POWERFUL BAD BOY or in his case BAD MAN because there is nothing boyish about TURO DEMARCO. He is intriguing, sensual, predatory, knowledgeable and dangerous. But behind all that is a man thirsty for more. To have more power, more control, acknowledgement of his value and even if he doesn’t want to admit LOVE. If you are a fan of Cat’s and remember her book FURY, your already acquainted with Turo and his alluring sexy swagger.
All his life he is been proving his worth to both Mauro Guardino (The Boss) and his mother Erin Cavanaugh just to get what really belongs to him. After some trouble and disaster in Chicago he is sent to Athens to smooth things over not knowing that this trip will turn his perfect control and organize crime life upside down.
Adriana Lavrentious at 23 years old is not your typical empire heiress. She may look like a Mediterranean supermodel, but she is also has a heart of gold, independent, refine, sensual, knowledgeable of many topics that would drive any man crazy. I’m not talking about sexual knowledge. For that Turo is here to bring out her inner Greek Goddess. She may look sweet and delicate, but she has a strong, fierce, burning passion inside that is screaming to come out. Our Turo is all in to bring all that to the surface once more. Belonging to a powerful and prestigious family like the Lavrentious it’s not just big parties and lavish dinners. Some danger will revolve around Adri and more so if your involve with some dangerous, gorgeous Italian man like the Aliverti bothers. Adriana has suffer in the past and for that she has lost part of herself. She may not see it of feel it anymore but Turo will show her the way back to the confident, strong sensual woman she truly is.
This story is about family, blood, loyalties, power, revenge, simple life pleasures, passion and love. I’m already missing My Conjurer, My Conqueror, My Indecent Gentleman. Let yourself be consume by Turo and Adriana’s love. It was such an amazing ROMANCE, so much more than what I was expecting. So grab your copy on JUNE 6. ***I have voluntarily read and review an advance copy of this book***
Dagger in the Sea by Author Cat Porter is suspense-filled, mafia romance novel.
“Tonight, Cinderella had met a foreign prince. An indecent one. Very indecent.”
Eloquent, riveting, gripping. These are words I would use to describe what I thought just after reading the prologue. There’s nothing like getting your hands on a great mystery and playing the part of the detective to break apart every sentence in an attempt to get to the truth. While this novel had many unknown components, it was replete with the forward play on sexual intentions. Coupling these two aspects together, Author Cat Porter gave us an insatiable desire to tear at the pages and devour every word.
“I came because I need you to know that you touched my life. You’ve changed me.”
The main backdrop of the story being set in Greece created an allure and magnetism that played into the dangerous and sensual. This novel literally took us there, planted us with these characters, made us part of the casting “extras”, and gave us sideline seats to its tangled and ever-changing world.
“I want to bite you, suck on you, lick you.”
Turo was an intense and brooding man, filled with purpose and surety. Equal in his caliber was Adri. Although graceful and undeniably feminine, she was able to eye her prize and make it happen. These two were quite the pair. At some point in this story, my thoughts for Turo and Adri went something like this, “More. More. Tell me more. Give me more. More! MORE! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!” In the midst of all of the threats and uncertainty, the author put us in a lust bubble of want, need, and desire that drove the story faster, harder, and deeper.
“...you need to stop functioning and live. Live big.”
Dagger in the Sea was an intricately written and multi-faceted novel, skillfully crafted to lure us in, hook us, drop us in the deep, and leave us breathless.
WOW WOW WOW, that's it review done as that's all you have to know how I absolutely LOVED this incredible story!!! I have to start off by saying this is my first Cat Porter book and am asking myself where have I been and what took me so long to read this amazing, talented story teller. Cat Porter has now become one of my go to writers for incredulous books and Dagger in the Sea has become one of my top reads!!!
This tantalizing story captured all my thoughts (naughty and nice...lol) from page 1 from the oh so hot Turo to the beautiful, sensual, exquisite Adriana. Together they created a mesmerizing magical fairy tale, an adventure for all of us to enjoy. Their chemistry was off the charts as you could feel their intensity, their passion, their heat for one another with simply one look or one touch. But would this be enough to keep these two together free from crime, hate and revenge especially when dealing with the undertakings of the Mafia?? It is so worth finding out as their romance takes us to the picturesque islands of Greece. You are immediately transported to the beautiful islands particularly Mykonos where everything comes alive, where Turo and Adriana's relationship comes alive. I felt like I was on my honeymoon all over again as I spent 17 glorious days in Greece.
This story had all the ingredients of a thought provoking read. I loved the mystery, the suspense, the intrigue, the danger, the edge of your seat drama, the sexiness all combined with the sun, the sand and the sea. I'd say this is a winning combination and best seller all around!!!
Cat Porter's writing and story telling was simply brilliant, simply flawless as she vividly sent us along an adventure of a lifetime. Well done, Brava Cat Porter, Auguri!!! Now everyone run and read this AMAZING story!!! OPA!!!
‘Our eyes locked. And in that thunderous split second, my life as I knew it changed course forever.’
It’s been a while since we read our last Cat Porter book but we were immediately drawn into her story through her vivid and descriptive prose. This Author certainly has a flair for the descriptive placing us right in the middle of her scenes. If Greece hadn’t already been on our bucket list it inevitably would’ve been after reading this book. Also, helloooo food porn! The Dagger in the Sea was a slow burn sexy romance set mostly in the lush surrounding of the Greek Islands where we got swept away in the Greek Mythology.
‘She was better than this. She was another world from this, my world.’
Turo DeMarco is heavily involved in the Chicago mafia courtesy of his estranged mobster dad. Growing up as the bastard son with a strong and seemingly emotionless mother and an absent father has caused a divide in his heart and mind, searching for his own space. An antihero who deals in violence and one night stands. All that’s about to change when he’s sent to Athens to make amends for a business deal gone awry on behalf of his Father.
‘A stillness took hold of me. A big chasm opened before me. A chasm I’d never wanted to see before, but had always been there. A loneliness I had created, nurtured.’
Adriana is a paparazzi darling, what with her famous family and living that rich socialite lifestyle. However, that’s not who she truly is and she’s waiting for that one person to really see her and break down her self-imposed walls in reaction to tragedy. Adorably sweet, down to earth and a passionate foodie, Adri is a wonderful heroine who is immediately intrigued and intensely attracted to the enigmatic Truro DeMarco. Theirs lives become intricately entwined as they have an intense few days in their own delicious bubble with violence and drama skirting the periphery.
‘For the first time in a long fucking time, I didn’t care about any of the things I had to be caring about. There was only now. There was only this beautiful island, this incredible house, this gorgeous girl.’
Drugs, guns, vendettas and murder amidst clear skies and a yacht on beautiful crystal blue waters. This story is quite the journey; encompassing the mafia elements we love. Be prepared to be swept away on a journey that’s as sweet as it is twisted and dramatic. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
“I will never forget you. You gave me something beautiful that I will always treasure no matter what…”
Dagger in the Sea wasn’t quite what I expected from Cat Porter. The characters are well-developed and fascinating, the words are gorgeous—at times, poetic—the story interesting and intriguing, but the Fury, and the Lock & Key series are, at times, brutal. Dagger in the Sea is a mafia story centered on a character we met in Fury, so I guess my expectation was it would be violent, bloody, and brutal. And it is, but to a much lesser extent than I expected. For me, it is more of a traditional romance, but with a heightened sense of danger always lurking in the back of your mind. It is Ms. Porter’s love song, or tribute to Greece. Her words are filled with obvious love and affection for the people, the history, the food, music, and beauty of the islands and the sea. For years I’ve wanted to visit Greece, but have never had the opportunity. Ms. Porter’s rich, vivid descriptions made me feel like I was right there with Turo and Adriana.
My initial impression of Turo DeMarco from his introduction in Fury was of a smart, cool, calculated, well-organized criminal. I was pleasantly surprised by his vulnerability and the motivation behind his drive for success. The time he and Adriana spend together in Greece shows stripped down versions of themselves, without outside interference or influence, thus allowing readers to get a true sense of their personalities, and for both Turo and Adriana to learn a lot about each other and themselves. Of course the world couldn’t be held at bay indefinitely, and their idyllic Greek getaway came to an abrupt end, bringing with it the harsh realities of their lives. There are twists and turns, some that caught me by surprise, but worked perfectly. The plot is intricate and well thought out, although I found the pace a little uneven. My philosophy is you can never go wrong with a Cat Porter book, and Dagger in the Sea is no exception.
Loved this sexy, complex, and rich story! Cat Porter totally swept me away with this lush and romantic tale.
To say I was excited for this book is an understatement! Cat Porter's writing has always enthralled me: mature, complex and engrossing, I devour her stories. And Turo and Adri's book was a fantastic escape into an action-packed, romantic and exotic story. If you are looking for some serious chemistry and an exciting Mafia romance, then 'Dagger in the Sea' is for you. The romance, the characters, the settings: this book ticked all the right boxes for me.
"My heart thrashed in my chest once more, and there, in every hard pound, in the rush of blood, through the smoke, her eyes held mine. She remained. She knew. That was the victory. That was the only triumph. She was the only truth. And that scared me more than all the lies."
Turo is sent to do a job in Europe and ends up as security for the wealthy and famous Adri. The sparks are immediate but their romance is a sexy, sensual slow burn. The author's knowledge of the Greek locations and the sophisticated cities is thorough and enticing and exciting. This story swept me along and I could not put it down!
“‘The way the current hits…” I continued translating, my voice rougher than usual. “‘I’m drowning, but I’m not leaving. That’s how I want you. At the edge of my life’s cliff, come and be the end. Finish me off.’”
Bonus: there's some fascinating Greek mythology thrown in which makes for a spell-binding tale. And although this is a standalone, there are some of my favorite characters from the Lock & Key series who make appearances here.
But it's the settings and the chemistry between Adri and Turo that are center stage here. This is a very adult, very sophisticated romance that I enjoyed immensely. And I literally felt as though I had been swept away on a Mediterranean adventure!
"What a language. It was round and curved and sensual; its sounds more suited to soft endearments and sentiments than orders. Greeks colored their speech with washes of emotion, up and down it went, round and round, so different from the angular practicality of English."
Turo DeMarco is sexy, dangerous and brooding. He has been trying to prove himself his whole life and finally finds something worthwhile with the beautiful and smart Adri. Turo has done very bad things but she sees the power and goodness in him. He is sophisticated and glamorous and only wants to protect Adri. This mission is his chance to prove himself to his family and to his bosses.
I will admit that I totally judge a book by its cover and this one is simply magnificent! And perfectly reflects the characters and the story. If you are in the mood for a sexy Mafia romance, then you will love 'Dagger in the Sea.' It's the perfect summer read!
“Go farther with me, Adri,” I whispered, my voice rough. “For however long we have.”
5 stunning, spectacular stars for one of my top reads of the year!! Dagger in the Sea is the perfect beach read for summer. Turo and Adriana’s passionate love affair takes place with the stunning Greek islands as the backdrop, and their story is laced with suspense, action, and woven with mythology. The combination makes this one scorching hot, goosebump-inducing, slow burning love story.
I became a fan of Cat Porter after reading Fury last year (best MC book I’ve ever read!). There was a small and intriguing character named Turo DeMarco in Fury and many readers loved him so much (myself included!) that we begged Cat to write a book for him. Dagger in the Sea is his story, and it has been one of my most anticipated books this year. Once it landed on my kindle I have to admit I was a little nervous to start, worrying that I’d built the anticipation up too much in my head. Well Cat Porter blew my expectations out of the water with this book! I loved getting to know Turo better and seeing his beautiful relationship with Adriana unfold. He’s still the badass that I loved in Fury, but we get to see a whole other side to him here.
This book is also by far the author’s most romantic and lightest of all of her books. The story overflowed with romance and passion and it was just stunning. Her writing has never been better, as proven by my 17 pages of highlights!!
Dagger in the Sea is a must read, don’t miss out on Cat Porter’s stunning and epic love story!
2.5 stars This is tough for me. I am a huge fan of Cat and her writing style. That being said my heart is heavy because I did not fall in love with A Dagger in the Sea. I can say that the imagery is amazing as usual. You can count on Cat to take you there when it comes to the setting of her books. However, I did find the descriptions a bit heavy handed so I got bored.
I think I had a different view of whom Turo would be going into this book. He seemed different from what I remember of him in Fury. I think that even though he was arrogant and thought he knew it all, he did not. He was still finding his way as a man. I respect where the author was going with him but it wasn’t what I expected. I wanted a stronger and more ruthless Turo. Although, I did see him come out a bit towards the end.
No matter how hard I tried, I could not stay locked into the story. One of the things I expect in a Cat Porter book is the FEELS! I missed that intensity in this book. I could not feel passion for Turo and Adri that I wanted. As I said, I liked the tour of Greece but I needed the story to be more character driven.
Please do not be discouraged by my ramblings. If the blurb hooks you, go for it. My dislike could be other readers like. Cat is a fabulous author but this just didn’t grab me and hold onto me as her previous books have.
I just finished “Dagger in the sea” and I have a big fat smile in my face!!
@Cat Porter 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 Please don’t ever stop …….your writing is remarkable, extraordinary, astonishing, sensational!! We NEED more books such as this one!!
First of all the plot was mafia and had taken place in my beautiful Greece!💖 I know she lives in Greece and probably she is familiar with our culture/language etc…. but this is the first time I read a book which is set in Greece and everything is correct (!!!) the names (!!!), the language (!!!), our custom and traditions (!!), the name of the locations/places (and all of them exist)!!("I was so fucking happy that I almost wet my pants”)💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
I feel in love with this couple, Turo and Andri!💙💙💙💙 Mrs. Porter pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I need (desperately) a book for Markos, Alessio,Luca and of course Emilio!!!!!!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Simply ……… this is a huge, big, fat 5+!!
Loved the way everything in this book was described as if I were sitting there enjoying the scene in person. I truly feel like I have experienced Greece in all its beauty.
Arturo is truly a lost man.
Never having a mother or father who truly claimed him in public as their child. Living with his mother, yet being introduced as a godchild. Never meeting his father until that day…
When his father sends him to Greece to take care of a lost business deal, Turo met the one who would change his life forever.
This is a long book! It seemed to move at a very slow pace. I enjoyed reading it but at times I felt that I wanted to shout and say ok move on already.
If you like the extra-long slow burn book, this book is for you! Its beautifully written and an enjoyable read.
Let me start by saying, I love Cat Porters writing and with this book the writing could not have been more faultless. I loved the characters and this story had so much potential but I found the story dragged and was very slow. Now don't get me wrong there isn't anything wrong with that but I like a little more get up and go with a story and this just didn't really take off until 70% and then went full steam ahead and the story raced forward and was really enjoyable.
Turo and Adriana were fantastic, the supporting cast were brilliant and there were a few surprises thrown in there too character wise. I would recommend this if you love a slow burn book, it will probably be a top read for you but unfortunately this time for me, I just didn't love it.
Dagger in the Sea is simply beautiful. Cat Porter takes the reader on a sweeping adventure through the Greek Isles and you can't help but fall in love, one page at a time. As we get caught up in the slow burn romance that starts when Turo DeMarco quite literally bumps into one Adriana Lavrentiou in a nightclub, the immense beauty that only Greece can deliver is our backdrop. The sights and sounds of this magnificent country are wonderfully described and I found myself happily lost in its allure.
Although their worlds are vastly different, there is a strong pull, a calling that both Turo and Adri did not anticipate. There is plenty of mystery that surrounds both of them. As their stories, their past hurts find their way to the surface, it becomes as crystal clear as the azure waters of the Aegean Sea, that perhaps they are more perfect together than either one wants to admit. Their banter is sharp and keeps both of them on their toes, and I loved the way they could both entice the other with just a look and become a better version of themselves just by being near.
The underlying reasons for Turo being in Athens is the dreaded thread throughout this book. As much as we all want the love story both he and Adri want as well, there is a definite expiration date to their time together. His stint as her new bodyguard was not planned and everything he had wanted to resolve while in Greece becomes wildly complicated very quickly. The Author certainly kept me guessing to how this would all unfold and I found myself as blissfully lost as Turo and Adri were as they find a few days respite from all the madness that surrounds them on the remote island of Andros. Danger lurks at every turn, whether it is by the hand of his family or by her past relationships. There is so much that transpires, so many characters to keep track of, I had to savor each page slowly just to keep up!
But as everything comes to a head later on in the book, I too craved the serenity of those stolen moments on Andros since neither Turo's nor Adri's lives would ever be the same. Secrets are revealed. Unexpected alliances are formed. Confessions are there for the taking. I'm telling you, this book has it all and you had better pay close attention. It is more than worth it in the end.
The indecent gentleman and his guileless vixen make for one helluva pair. Their chemistry is undeniable and their passion all consuming. I couldn't look away if I tried. I will admit, however, that there were times when I felt as if the journey of their presumed love was overly long, even a bit too wordy. But I'm here to say that every word has it's rightful place and this story could not have been told any other way.
Cat Porter once again delivers an experience like no other. A romantic escapade full of emotion, intrigue and a ton of heart. Dagger in the Sea deserves no less than 5 solid stars!
Dagger In The Sea is the lightest book I've read by this author which by no means is a complaint since I found it quite enjoyable.
I loved the way the author wove myths into the story and the impact it had on Adri and Turo's story and relationship.
My fave part was watching them fall under each other's spell in the same way I was bespelled by Greece. The vivid way in which the author brought it to life had me adding it to my list of places I simply must visit. I want to walk where these characters walked, experience the sights, sounds, scents and tastes.
I definitely recommend this book without a doubt.
ARC provided by author in exchange for a honest review
Whilst I loved all of the characters and thought they all worked really well and immersed themselves perfectly, for me the pace of the book wasn't for me, I'm not a slow burner reader and whilst Cat's writing was amazing and on point in every last detail, I personally thought given where the storyline was heading and the background it would be more punchy and faster paced especially as it starts with quite a bang, but all that faded into the background whilst the relationship built over 65%, and all the action came in the last 25% when it's was bang bang bang boom.
Fortunately I've been to Greece many times over the years and could relate to so much Cat was describing in Dagger in the Sea, from Athens and the Lagonisi (I stayed in a Bungelow), mati charms, Mykonos, Souvlaki, Meze and the beautiful blue waters of the Aegean sea, Cat took me back to many great time memories.
This book was everything I hoped it would be and so much more.
Through Porter's exquisite and atmospheric prose, we are taken on an unforgettable journey across the Greek islands.
Experiencing the tastes and sights of Greece through vivid imagery, Porter will keep you on the edge of your seat as she portrays the love story of Turo DeMarko, the son of an Italian gangster, and Adriana Lavrentiou, a Greek shipping heiress.
This story is full of suspense and drama and once Turo meets Adri, their chemistry is a slow, slow burn, and off the scale HOT.
It is not my job to re-tell the story, because Cat Porter is the storyteller here. Her words are a joy, and to read this story will be your absolute pleasure.
My favourite read of 2018 so far, and Cat Porter's best book to date.
A wonderfully addictive story that you will not be able to put down.
Danger, culture, lust….this book has it all! Dagger in the Sea by Cat Porter brings us international crime families, rich and famous performers and designers, and family…always family.
We travel all over the globe following Turo and Adriana. Their story is not a simple one. Their lives are full of complications and road blocks. Danger lurks around every corner for them, yet together they prevail through so much.
Turo, the bastard son of the crime boss of Chicago. He is describes as having “elegant sophistication with an edge.” He has been out to prove himself for years. Trying to claim what is due to him and live the life he deserves. In the blink of an eye that all changes. A “business trip” to right some wrongs goes awry and Turo finds himself infatuated with a Mediterranean beauty.
Adriana, this young woman has so many layers. She is down to earth, bold, used to a life of luxury but completely fine with “slumming” it as some night say…yet she is shielding herself from what she truly wants. Adri has a strong sense of duty to her family, even when some of them don’t deserve it. She is loyal to a fault almost.
These two have an easy relationship for the most part. There is always tension because of their pasts and what they are hiding from, but all that aside they fit together so well. I love how dirty Turo flirted and how uninhibited Adri could be. The time they spend together not only teaches us about who they are as individuals but teaches us about the beauty that is held within Greece and it’s history. Cat Porter has quite a way with words. The descriptive nature of this book will make you feel like you are there in the thick of everything. I have always wanted to go to Greece and after reading Dagger in the Sea I feel one step closer to being there. It’s not just the scenery either, it’s the feelings that she gives you. The emotions that Adri and Turo fight through. You will feel it all. This story is one of mystery and beauty, let it take you way for awhile.
Turbo DeMarco and Adriana Lavrentious are poles apart couple He's sexy swagger and baddest of the bad boys She's sweet, generous, helpful and very knowledgeable They meet in Greece where Turo is sent to take care of a snagging the business. He's trying to impress his boss Mauro Guardino and his mother, Erin Cavanaugh. The first encounter scratches the regal veneer of Adri and Turbo manages to unleash and refine burning fire & passion within. Together they shall embark upon a tumultuous affair that throws the entire Mafia family in bedlam. “Our eyes locked. And in that thunderous split second, my life as i knew it changed course forever.”
There is nothing this book doesn't contain and leave you wanting/needing more and left me gasping at points. The author did such an amazing job with details not only with the characters but the various environments they were in. Left me longing for a trip to Greece. This book is packed with everything between mafia, historical romance, discussion of gods and current romance/heat.
You gave me something beautiful that I will always treasure no matter what…”
I waited for a long time for this book! Completely different from the Lock & Key Series, it wasn't anywhere close to what I expected. It was rich in details, dialogue, and imagery, at times reading like a travel guide to Greece. In fact, a trip to Greece is now on my bucket list and when I get there, Dagger In The Sea will be with me. Maybe I'll use it as my itinerary.
This was somewhat of a slow burn, not that the electricity between them wasn't burning through the pages, but once Turo and Adri got going...holy cow, I can't believe my iPad didn't go up in flames. It was that hot.
What threw me was the fact that this was the most relationship-driven book I've ever read from Ms. Porter. There was some action and suspense, but the romance completely overpowered everything else which was a tad bit disappointing. Part of my problem was I was unbelievably sick while reading this so having the action not front and center made this easy for me to put down. Not that it wasn't good, it was, it just wasn't what I needed at the time.
Turo also wasn't quite as alpha as I expected him to be. He seemed to constantly be behind and playing defense instead of coming up with a good offense. At times he seemed naive and maybe even gullible. I did like him but he never completely wowed me except for when it came to his prowess in the sex department. That was a completely different story. He was an animal when it came to sex: bossy, dirty and alpha. I just wish that had carried on through to everything else.
I ended up giving this a rare 5 dirty sexy flames for hotness level but an overall star rating of 3.5.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I tend to adore Cat Porter's writing, so it's hard giving this book 3 stars. I liked Turo; I liked Adriana; I liked the story overall, but I didn't love it. The story seemed to drag along too long for my liking.
Lovely. Lovely. Lovely. I savoured every chapter and every minute of this book. Totally wrapped up in Turo and Adriana’s story.
I won this book in a giveaway (thank you Totally Booked) just after I booked my summer holiday to Greece. And now I’m going to while away the hours until I can dip my toes in the Aegean Sea and pretend to be beautiful Adri..
Warning do not read this book whilst trying to diet. Greek food is magnificent. The cheese. The olives. The aubergines. The prawns. The wine. Saganaki. Spanakopita. Kleftico. Souvlaki. Stifado. It’s the simplicity of the food that makes it so delicious. I feel like Dagger In The Sea should be adopted by the Grecian food and wine industry or tourist board. I want to eat all of the food Turo and Adri ate on the same beaches. At the same tavernas. I want to go to Andros.
What Captain Corelli did for Kefalonia, Dagger In The Sea could do for Andros, but I want to keep it as a secret gem just a little longer. Well at least until I have been.
The story was stunning, from Adriana’s tales of her island living ancestors to the undercurrent of evil that surrounds Turo and his relationship with his gangland father in Chicago. My heart was in my mouth sometimes but I just felt trust that wherever this story took me it would be perfect.
“She was Aphrodite rising from her seashell, water sluicing over her skin, wet hair in a long tangle down her body, eyes huge and bright, ready to greet her ardent lover. The compulsion to drop to my knees and worship her as any ordinary mortal would overwhelmed me. But she was no ethereal goddess. She was real.”
“That morning on that rocky bluff, high above ancient blue waters, in the stony ruins of conquerors’ ambitions and pirates’ bloodlust, we held each other, breathing in the salty sweet air, and listened to our hearts whisper of what had been and hum with what could be.”
“Real love only blooms if you risk, if you take a leap of faith. Love soars in that leap. It’s in the soaring that you savour its unique flavor and texture, the one only the two of you share.”
I could wax lyrical forever but I’m having halloumi cheese for dinner. Lovely!
I'm not sure how I feel about this. I love Porter's writing style. The imagery of Turo and Adriana's time in Greece was beautiful. I wanted to be there with them. But underneath it all, it felt like a "bodyguard falls for his client" type of story. I kept losing interest because I didn't feel an emotional connection. But I knew it would be hard for Porter to top the brilliance of Fury so maybe I'm not being completely fair.
The last half started to pick up for me. I was curious what Turo had in store for his father. I also loved Adriana's story about Stefanos and Natalia and the parallelism. It was very romantic. All in all, not my favorite from Porter. I just love those damn bikers too much. But I still urge you to read it and form your own opinion.
