How does one describe a feeling? Some say there are no words that can perfectly reproduce one’s feelings in another—but poetry comes close.
Written with incredible honesty and self-knowledge, Between the Lines is a stunning collection of poems from Céline Zabad. Ranging in length from a single line to full pages, her poems mimic at once the brevity and vastness of feeling. Her verse is at times as free as a cloud, other times as solid as stone. Her words are philosophies and feelings in their own rights, on love, loss, loyalty, betrayal, hope, and disappointment—on life.
Zabad encapsulates the thrill of love’s first blush and the freezing burn of heartbreak. Her feelings flow freely throughout the collection, lending her poetry uncommon authenticity and power. Nature thrives between the lines of her verse, reminding the reader that tears are as natural as raindrops.
Whether you’re looking for new ways to think about your own feelings or are simply passionate about poetry, you’ll find plenty to love in this collection. To better understand the complexities of emotion in yourself and others, you must read Between the Lines .
A logophile in true sense and without missing the crux of what she wants to express; express feelings and emotions everyone of us can relate to. Absolutely loved it. The sections 'Volumes' and 'Reflections' are something worth reading more than once. Cannot miss this book of poetry and word play.
I'm not a poetry snob. I do actually like the contemporary poetry. Yes, the kind that people say are just normal sentences with random line breaks. The ones that read like instagram quotes. This, however...
The majority of these poems are just one or two sentences. Most of them have no rhythm, no beauty. The few attempts at poetic imagery are so basic and used up that they hold no punch whatsoever. A lot of the poetry is based on word-plays, which read like cheap puns to me.
There are a few poems that I think could work as a part of a bigger piece - a line in a song, or a sentence in a short story, but they do not hold up on their own. I did not once feel moved or connected to the poems.
Even the few longer, more conventional poems miss the mark. Again, both the writing and the content fails to impress me. The entire thing is repetitive and boring. It was pure stubbornness that got me through this. It took me almost a year to muster up the will power to finish it.
Thanks, now I'll go re-read one of my favourite poetry books to remind myself how good it can be.
One of my top favorite poetry collections I've read this year
Between The Lines: Volumes of Words Unspoken by Céline Zabad is one of my top favorite poetry collections I've read this year. I loved the small details Zabad paid attention to while writing this collection. She offered such a different and unique approach to writing poetry in this modern age. It is inspiring and intriguing. I love that Zabad focuses on the things "between the lines," highlighting the true meaning behind the words and even the punctuation we use when conveying our emotions about life, love, and our experiences. My favorite poem was the one titled All Of Me because it brilliantly describes the type of person I am. Many poems in this collection resonated with my heart, mind, and soul. I can't wait to read other works by this author. I recommend this collection of poetry to everyone who likes poetry. There is so much that you'll be able to take away from it.
Think this writer initially had a direction, but she lost it fairly early on. As much as I appreciate and can even relate to her emotional roller-coaster and the devastation of loss, the texts came off as sentimental, largely due to a lack of craft (rhyme and rhythm) and predictable word choices.
The original conceit—concise, almost skeletal texts encapsulated by a word or short phrase, was a really good idea, and could be worked on in a future iteration. Unfortunately, the promise of this structural form dissipated early and the longer pieces, for this reader, were unsuccessful due to overused word choices and essentially, a lack of basic poetry skills.
The writer would do well to read, study, and develop her native ability and focus her passionate voice in classes, perhaps in workshops.
For me, poetry is much more than just words and thoughts, it is a special, unique language and "music of words" that appeals to the most delicate strings of the soul. I got great pleasure from Between The Lines: Volumes of Words Unspoken by Céline Zabad and it will stay with me forever. Céline certainly has the talent and not only the talent of the writer, but also a unique gift to deeply feel the world in which we live and share her feelings and thoughts through delightful poems. They are all different in meaning and in emotional content, but they all give food to the each soul and it is priceless!
I was drawn to the title of Between The Lines: Volumes of Words Unsaid and it sounded like something I would enjoy after checking out the synopsis, so I downloaded and started it right then. Ms. Zabad really provided a ton of content in this collection and I was here for it! There was a mix of everything from heartbreak and pain to whimsy and joy. I saved several poems and I particularly loved her Reflections section — it was wonderful, though the whole book was really. It was beautiful, deep, and I had such a good time with Between the Lines: Volumes of Words Unsaid!
When I started this book, I was a different person and after reading this book I am a different person. The life facts were brought into picture perfectly in very simple words. Whatever I write and term it as 'review' wouldn't do justice to the depth of the book!!
A must read, if you're going through heart break or being depressed!
The book describes such intimate feelings into words. It spoke to me as if one soul is speaking to the other. "I know you love words. Do not fall for them; listen to the tone of action behind them. If they move you just as much, then by all means fall. Fall Hard." #logophile
This is a beautiful moving collection of poems and I adore each and every one. The descriptive language is gorgeous and left me overwhelmed with emotions, always a sign of good words.
**2.5** So my favorite part of this book was the “volumes” section - I definitely enjoyed those poems more and found them much easier to read. I didn’t connect much with this and sometimes found the sentences confusing and had to re-read them. This wasn’t bad it just wasn’t for me.
Overall, this collection is decent. Sometimes the poetry lacked an emotional response and sometimes it got repetitive, but some other ones were good, and deserve good credit. 3/5 Stars - A decent read
This seemed to have really great reviews and I went in with such high hopes. For some reason this just fell a little flat for me, I liked a few of the poems but a lot just seemed to be one sentence or so and I just didn’t really didn’t understand the theme or feel connected to the poetry at all.
