An awkward but feisty journalist; a lonely but savage predator; What’s the worst that could happen?
Josephine “Effy” Crowley—freelance writer. 30-something. Cambridge graduate. Unlucky in life and, somehow, even unluckier in love.
Desperate to make a name for herself as an investigative reporter, she seizes upon an opportunity from an old college professor: to study a pack of Magick-wielding humans (a brigade of Anomalies, to use proper terminology) who worship any who possess the ability to shift into their “primal” form.
Thrust undercover into outlaw society, Effy finds herself tangling one night with a traveling mercenary who simply goes by “Ulric”. But now he’s tasted her scent he seems reluctant to forget it, and everywhere she turns, she sees the shadow of a wolf.
Is it stupid or brilliant to think she can use this to her advantage? That line is fine enough to be danced along, provided she can stay one step ahead of his hunger.
Is this simply the work of a curious predator stalking his prey? Or, in competition with others, does this wolf have something more sinister planned...
