Cowboy Doms #1

Submitting to the Rancher

Rate this book
Sydney finds more than she bargained for when she gets lost on her way to report for a new job and finds herself at a lifestyle club. Peering in through the window, her attention – and libido – are both snagged by a man delivering some old-fashioned discipline to a young blonde. After he runs Sydney off, both are surprised to discover she is the new chef he’s hired for his ranch.

Caden wanted to turn away the cheeky woman he’d caught spying on his club without remorse, but desperation for a chef forced his hand. Sydney proves to be a definite asset to his employees, and a royal pain in his butt. Somehow, her penchant for getting lost and landing in trouble, along with her determination to return to the club as a guest, soon slide past his resistance.

It takes a threat to Sydney and unearthing the truth about what made her flee her home in Missouri to force them both to admit their feelings and get her to stay as more than his chef.

Publisher’s Note: This contemporary Western romance contains themes of mystery, suspense, power exchange, and ménage elements and is intended for mature audiences.

I live in the Midwest with my husband and two dogs, enjoy spending time with my daughter, babysitting her two dogs, reading and working puzzles. We have traveled extensively, but I much prefer being a homebody.

I began writing erotic novels with an emphasis on erotic spanking five years ago never dreaming that I would get published. I just celebrated the release of my eleventh title and am very thankful to my publisher, Pink Flamingo, for taking a chance on me and giving me the opportunity to enjoy a fun career. While my earlier books lean more towards straight erotica that will appeal to only a very select audience, my last five books are erotic romances. I enjoy hearing all comments from readers. Sorry, I had to DNF......

Spoilers ahead ......

It was going good. It was an okay audio.

The heroine is a fucking twit, but I could tolerate her.

The hero was decent.

There was a little mystery and suspense.

It was leading to be a decent novella.

Then it happened..... And you lost me.......

A scene where the heroine gets all turned on watching 2 horses hump each other roughly.

Maybe it's just me, but I have never been turned on seeing two animals go at it.

So yup, I won't give it 1 stars because it was still an okay audio. I just can't stop laughing and it will be impossible to not think about 2 horses fucking each other while these two have sex.

I'm actually not sure I can even listen to another book and not think about 2 horses going at it today.

Now I'm even more annoyed... There goes my day cleaning lost in a book.

Great storyline and premise, conflict was annoying

3.5/5⭐ (0.5 taken off for stupid conflict)
🌶🌶🌶🌶

The conflict in this angered me because it's the communication trope where she thinks she can't share which would have been more believable if she wasn't so confident in all other aspects. But loving the Ranch and bdsm vibes with all the sexy cowboys. Love this mix of cowboy small town romance and sexy possessive alpha dom.

Although I found this to be a very well written story (at least the 35% I made it through), I couldn't continue as I completely & totally could NOT stand Sydney (h).
I get that she can't tell North from South or East from West, gets lost & is quirky, but seriously she is TSTL as well as a dismissive snob. She's hiding from 'someone' so this city girl who's been a chef at prestigious restaurants accepts a position as a cook on a working cattle ranch. She figures they'll be used to plain boring non-eclectic 'cooking', so of course her with all her big city chef talents won't have any problems. They'll be easy to please. This just rubbed me the wrong way. And my irritation with her character just continued to grow exponentially from there.
She's on a WORKING cattle ranch so Caden (H) her employer, boss & owner of the ranch tells her NOT to wander from around the house because of dangers.
So, what is the 1st thing she does? Wanders.
Gets injured, Caden has to take her into town to the clinic. She thinks it's fun.
Next day, she gets into something else wandering around. Caden has to deal with her.
Day after that, she is in SERIOUS danger & BOTH Caden & his brother have to take off from their responsibilities/duties to look for her & save her. Again, all she pays attention to is rubbing herself all over Caden on the ride back to the house. Win-Win, right?
OK, I realize the story isn't 'real' but seriously, Caden's character is presented as so overworked & stressed his only relief is a BDSM club after work but apparently he's got time to spend day after day running after a woman who acts like a 5 year with the same level of common sense & inability to learn from her mistakes. And she doesn't acknowledge/realize at all how she is impacting the workings of the ranch.
I know, most people will like this story just fine, & again, it is well written. I liked Caden & his brother Conner but my irritation with Sydney just couldn't be ignored by the time I got to 35% of the story.
Maybe she grows up, maybe she becomes more emotionally mature & aware of how her actions endanger herself & others but I'll never know. It seems to me there could have been other ways to demonstrate Sydney's personality, but it was the authors call.
I've read other books by this author & loved them, so that's why I am positive it is my personal distaste for the character, not anything to do with the author's writing &/or ability.
So, in conclusion, as I've said, I am sure many, if not most, readers will greatly enjoy this story of a Cowboy Dom & supremely annoying (to me at least) romantic interest.

A new author to me and I really enjoyed this quick read. It is well written, with plenty of Dom play, a heroine who’s into experimenting, as well as a talent for getting lost, a hero who is fighting his growing attraction to her, and some suspense from the reason she is running from her previous life added in. This girl is full of sass, which makes for some humorous moments. Guaranteed HEA.

When her uncle's need for money puts Sydney in danger, she leaves town and gets a job as the cook on Caden's ranch, not knowing that he also owns the BDSM club next door. She wants to explore the lifestyle, but he wants to keep his ranch employees separate from his other business. However, they're attracted to each other, and things between them are heating up.

Sydney is spunky, sociable, and sometimes... stupid. She repeatedly goes out to explore the ranch, without her phone, and gets herself in trouble and needs to be rescued. Once, I understand, but after that...the rest of the book isn't bad, but overall nothing special.

Liked it!

Good story with a spunky woman running from family issues to cook for a rancher who owns a BDSM club. Sexy and suspense all rolled in one.

I enjoyed this new story by BJ Wane. Her first in a new series! Sydney is on the run from an Uncle who wants her to sign over his inheritance so she gets hired as the cook for a ranch. After getting lost and stumbling onto a BDSM club, she observes the play going on inside and is intrigued and just a little bit turned on. When Caden catches her, he doesn't realize who she is and sends her on her way. Needless to say, she is the cook he has hired for his ranch. Try as he might, he can't fight his feelings for her and when she keeps getting into trouble, it's time to take her in hand. I loved the build up to the relationship and the little menage scene. But there is some drama and some danger following Sydney. She thinks by not saying anything, it will keep the ranch safe. When something happens, she realizes she may have to leave just as things are heating up between her and Caden. Will she stay or run? Will Caden find out what she's hiding? The book kept me turning the pages until the early morning because I didn't want to put it down. Now I'll be eagerly waiting for more stories in this series. Love me some cowboys and Miss Wane got this one just right.

Had potential

This story had some potential, but it just didn't flow.

Spoiler alert: The BDSM elements were awkward and at times inappropriate. There didn't seem to be any knowledge of ranching--other than him correcting her term of "cows" for "cattle"--bull and heifer is used interchangeably for the same animal, an unrideable horse is left untended, but saddled and tied to a corral fence. And the heroine , while feisty and sassy, is just clueless. She constantly wanders off and gets lost, even though she knows she has a poor sense of direction and has been warned repeatedly not to do so. She lets her boss tie her up and physically assault her without consent because she had something on her mind that she wouldn't share (back to awkward use of BDSM) Her big drama back home made no sense and is resolved by one 15 minute conversation between the men in her life. Her creepy uncle gets off scott free while the guy he hired goes to jail. None of it flowed.

Surprisingly good

A good, quick and cute read. My only complaint is that Sydney was annoying sometimes. She made really stupid, brainless decisions, like wandering out on an unfamiliar ranch, getting caught in barbed wire, and deciding to ride a dangerous horse when she doesn’t really know how. Also, her decision to keep Cayden in the dark about her troubles didn’t make sense. Her reasoning was that she didn’t want to hurt her grandmother, but he had nothing to do with her grandma. She could have come clean right away and just told him not to say anything to the rest of her family. It made no sense. But I will say that she was also entertaining at times. She was very sassy, which I loved. And Cayden was awesome! Overall I really enjoyed this book. The BDSM aspect of it was hot. I liked the scenes at the club and all the other characters. I can’t wait for Greyson and Connor’s books. Hopefully the girls they are paired with are less annoying than Sydney.

Submitting to the Rancher is a well written story, has an interesting storyline, and characters that are fun and passionate. Caden is part owner of a BDSM club as well as a ranch, he is dominant, strong, protective, and is Sydney's new boss. Sydney is a chef looking for a place to hide, sassy, feisty, and determined to fix her problem on her own. Throughout the story I loved the interaction and banter between not only Caden and Sydney, but also Connor as well. Many times I found myself laughing out loud at Sydney's antics. There is plenty of mystery, danger, suspense, humor, chemistry, and erotic love. I loved their story and hope you will too! I voluntarily received an arc copy of this book.

If you've read this book....

If you've read this book, ask yourself if you liked it or not. The rest of the books in this series (a total of 6 at the moment) are all the same. Same depth of plot and same character development. The same adjectives used across the series. Etc, etc, etc. If you liked this book, you're good to go. If you didn't like this book, you probably are not going to like the rest. Make your own decision. I simply wanted to inform you that nothing changes if you go on to read more. And as the rest of the books cost money, you decide what you want to do.

This was a quick experiment for me, reading a contemporary. It was a twist on the BDSM club scene. I very much enjoyed the rural western twist. Also, I liked the hero very much and the heroine somewhat. Her situation seemed a bit contrived at differing points and that spread to some of her immediate responses to the kink. It still remained feasible with much of her pre-story unsaid. As far as the sex scenes, they were very well written and very hot with lots of kink, disciple, toys and spanking.
Although it is technically contemporary, the setting allowed certain elements that I do not enjoy to be avoided, giving it a slight historical feel at times. I liked the other hunky males in the story and see future books for them. As for the experiment, not sold on contemporary but I will/would definitely read Connor and/or Grayson's story with updates on Sydney and Caden.

I don't have a ton to say about this book. It simply was not for me. I don't mind erotica at all, but this simply did not have enough substance for me.

The writing style was fine. The BDSM aspect did not really bother me, but neither did it float my boat particularly.

What did bother me how sex seemed to solve everything in this book. The girl's angry, let's make her have sex. The girl's sad, let's make her have sex. The girl doesn't want to talk, let's make her by having sex. And the other way around as well to be fair. The sex was consensual, and there was a clear mention of a safe word, but the way sex was used as a tool to solve all emotional issues just bothered me.

I do not think I will be reading more books in this niche genre, though I don't mind a bit of spanking in my romances here and there. ;)

A Great Start to the Cowboy Dom’s Series

A new Series from my favourite author of this genre I always enjoy 😉, this is a short read but nevertheless one I can highly recommend as a must read. The first in the series is Submitting to the Rancher, not only is this a hot BDSM read but hilariously funny in parts too! With a Suspense and mystery written into this great storyline. I adored Sydney with her constant getting lost and her flakiness but determined character! Caden finds his new hire’s flakiness irritating and a pain, with her determination to get into the club too! Could Caden remain calm and keep his distance from the flaky, determined Sydney?

Don't bother. This was awful. Main problem: Sydney. Annoying doesn't even begin to describe her. Save your money and time. You're better off reading 50 Shades of Grey.

Submitting to the Rancher by BJ Wane is the newest book by this author and boy, is it steamy!!!
Sydney Greenbriar gets more than she expected when she gets lost on her way to new job and ends up at a BDSM club. When she sneaks a peak thru the window, her body and gaze are caught by this man delivering some delicious discipline to a blonde. After he catches her in the act peaking in on them and runs her off, color them surprised to discover that she is the new cook he’d hired for his ranch.
Caden MacGregor wanted to turn away the mischievous woman he’d caught spying on him/his club without any guilt, but his terrible need for a cook makes him keep this brat of a woman. Soon Sydney proves to be a huge asset to his employees, yet a royal pain in his rear. Somehow, Sydney soon gets around Caden's gruff exterior and they start really connecting super fast; the sparks are flying and the chemistry is intense but it fast becomes evident that Sydney is in danger. What and who have it out for her ? What secrets are in her past? Will she and Caden even have a future? Only way to find out is read this exciting , fun, intense, action-packed, witty, sexual, emotionally charged romance that will keep you glued from start to finish.

Sydney irritated me, while at the same time, I kind of liked her sassiness. That is why I couldn't connect sassy Syd to the "scared of hurting the family" Syd.

I could handle her not knowing her directions. I could handle her having a health fear of her uncle. What I could not handle was Sydney being an experienced chef, having worked at prestigious restaurants, and also being a "city" girl, but, she seemed to lack both common sense and self preservation skills. Along with that, at times, she seemed to be completely ditzy.

I liked Caden, Connor, and Grayson. The description of the BDSM Club in the "barn" was interesting. Never read about a Club located in a barn before.

How Syd handled the issue that caused her to leave home showed a level of immaturity that was surprising. I expected her to say something more after the scene with Caden and Grayson. Disappointed again.

Not a bad book. A fast paced, steamy, romance with elements of BDSM, and a couple of moments of suspense. The last chapter wrapped things up, and gives you the HEA, but I would have liked more about Caden and Syd's relationship.

One of my very favorite authors, BJ Wane has a new book and a new series out. Submitting to The Rancher is the first book in BJ’s Cowboy Doms series. If book one is indicative of the rest of the series, I’m looking forward to the rest!
Though there have been numerous complaints on the length of the story, I thought it was just right. While some of the subjects could have been dragged out more, it was a fun romp of a story. Sydney is a 5 star chef who is on the run from her uncle who wants her inheritance. He’s willing to go to any length to get it. She ends up getting lost on her way to her new job, (a common ocurance) and happens to see the goings on at a BDSM club.
She meets up with her boss, who ends up getting her out of trouble more often than not, getting her and her bottom into hot water.
BJ’s foray into cowboy romance has started off with a bang! And I’m excited to read about the rest of the ranch’s hot doms!

Likable characters

I have read the whole series now, luckily not in the correct order, because after the first book I would have lost interest, as it is the weakest of them all (I started with "Submitting to Two Doms" and followed up with "Submitting to the Sheriff"). I nevertheless enjoyed reading the series, though they are nearly all the same - which is a typical problem when you read series. It‘s always the woman who is in deep trouble and refuses to talk about it for some stupid made-up reason. This is what got on my nerves.
I didn't like the gender roles in this series. I read series about "privat clubs" (by other authors) which portray a less traditional and stereotyped but more open-minded club society. When you see a woman in "the Barn" it is typically a sub (and they are all small of course) and all the tall and handsome men are Doms. I prefer when the clubs in the stories have a variety like in other stories with D/s relationships in every possible variation. So the stereotypes took away a lot of fun reading the stories.

I think this book is the weakest because the li's reasons were so made-up. And everything happened too fast. But I think the author knows that his reasons were stupid because in the other books the characters make fun of him for his hesitation.

But what I really hate is reading embarrassing situations. I don't talk about embarrassing in a D/s scene, but embarrassing dialogues or embarrassing things the characters do. I skipped a lot of paragraphs, just skimmed through them hoping the situation was over.
Three stars for book one of the series, because there were a lot of embarrassing situations, the mc did embarrassing things, the li was too stubborn, everything happened too fast and because of the main problems I had with this series in general. The reasons I read this series is that I simply liked the characters and their connection to each other.

i read this book as part of an arc program. Sydney is a young chef who comes from a very well to do family, but she has been on the run after her uncle threatened her and tried to get her shares in the family's business to cover his gambling debts. Sydney was trying to find a solution to her uncle without telling the rest of her family, including her grandmother because she didn't want them to be upset. When Sydney found a job as a cook on a ranch, she got lost on the first day of her job and landed at a private BDSM club in a barn in the woods. When Sydney was watching through a window, she got caught by a handsome cowboy. He sent her on her way and the next day she found the ranch where she was going to work. When Sydney met her boss, she was shocked to see it was the cowboy, Caden. Caden is a Dom and he knows Sydney needs a strong hand, but he doesn't mix business with his pleasure or play time. Sydney asks to go to the barn, but Caden refuses to let her go. When Caden's brother Conor takes Sydney to the barn, Caden knows he has to take matters into his own hands and teach Sydney a lesson. Caden has been denying his attraction to Sydney and it is getting harder for him to not act on them. When Sydney doesn't follow his rules, he wants to spank her and get her to submit to him. Sydney wants Caden to dominate her and she pushes to get it. When Caden gives into Sydney, he wants to know her secrets and why she is running from something. When Sydney's uncle sends someone to tell her to go home, she knows everyone at the ranch could be in danger because of her. I really loved this story. I loved Caden and thought her really didn't want to fight his attraction to Sydney, but he had to try. I think he really cared for her and i think they had great chemistry. Good one.

I was delighted to see that BJ Wane had a new series on the go and fell on this book with great enthusiasm. I was not totally disappointed, as always the characters were fun and the story line was interesting, to a point. The main characters are Sydney (she is a top chef hiding from her despicable uncle who wants to do her serious harm if she doesn't sign her share of her family company over to him to clear his gambling debts). Rather than come clean to her family and disappoint her grandmother who dotes on her uncle (who is her grandmother's youngest son), Sydney has run away from home. She has taken a job as a cook at a ranch in the middle of nowhere but unfortunately she has the worse sense of direction ever and has managed to get very lost several times. Eventually she finds herself on a ranch but when she peaks through a window and catches a view of the intimate workings of a BDSM club in full swing, she is mesmerised, until the owner Caden sees her watching and runs her off. What are the odds that the very same Caden turns out to be her new boss. This could have had all the ingredients of a meaty and well rounded erotic, dd thriller but sadly read more like a short story. Sydney was quite annoying at times because she was so focused on her grandmother and didn't give the woman enough credit to work things out for herself and poor Caden who was stressed with running a huge ranch seemed to spend more time rescuing her from scrapes ie getting lost etc. The actual conclusion of the story felt very rushed and left me feeling a little bit like I had been robbed. However, all of that being said, it was a fun quick read and there is great potential for a new series, hopefully with stories which go a little deeper.

🖤 ~ My Thoughts ~ 🖤

3.5 Stars!

Not what I was excepting but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the characters (especially the heroines!)

I loved that each one was different but also that they shared enough to become a really great circle of friends.

I also liked the Doms... some a bit more than others (Caden and Grayson being my top Faves!)

I did notice a recurring theme in each story and that was that all the heroines (a) saw their future Doms in a scene with OW & (b) all the Doms had tried Nan on for size at least once. The fact that Nan manages to tease the other women about knowing what works for each Dom was off putting and times and I cringed everytime :(

This series is about a group of kink minded people and a club where they are free to indulge. I guess I just preferred a less small world. Trading partners like they do at this club was too OTT and since sharing and ménages aren’t my thing, having this constantly brought up was a mood killer at times.

Overall, not my favorite kind of read since I prefer less sharing and more possessive H/h, but I managed to get through all 7 stories and they each have a happy couple at the end. I can see why this appeals so much to others.

Heat Level: 5/5
~ There is bondage, spanking, public discipline and sexual scenes, voyeurism, and aside from Book 5, all couples limit their sharing to looking, no touching :)

Contains: Bondage, spanking, humiliation, power exchange, and anal.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sydney is the sole reason why I almost rated this a 2 star read. She is the epitome of stupid white girl in a horror movie,' but thrown into a BDSM sort-of romantic suspense novella. She's always getting lost, always going where she doesn't belong, always doing something that she knows is dangerous and stupid, yet she keeps doing it over and over again (I lost count of the numerous bad situations she found herself in. Then there's the whole running from her bad uncle in order to 'protect' her family, especially her grandmother, who she presumes is fragile and unable to handle heartache. I honestly didn't understand that. She'd rather let her uncle get away with harming her and doing something illegal (and sending a thug to threaten her) than to just go to her family and tell them what's going on. And then it all goes away in a few minutes in the end of the book when someone else does what she should have done 2 months ago. The only thing I liked about her was her sassiness and how she got along with everyone.

Caden was okay. He was the broody alpha you expect. I liked that Sydney wore him down, but sometimes his gruffness just irritated me since he didn't seem to really 'feel.' He came off as the react first, think later hero and that sometimes carried over into the BDSM scenes.

Speaking of those scenes, the author sure did love to make it all seem very clinical when it came to the terms used to describe things. I found it very odd and awkward for erotica.

I'm not sure if I'll continue the series. I liked the men in the book, but Sydney was made to seem like a ditz and I worry the rest of the series will be the same.

Submitting to the Rancher is the first book in the Cowboy Doms series, and what a way to start a series! Sydney is on the run, but most importantly, she’s late for her first day of work! Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time she’s run into her boss, Caden. Off to a weird start, Caden tries to fight his attraction, since he doesn’t mix employees with pleasure, but neither one can deny what they’re feeling. Just as Caden gives into temptation and Sydney starts to feel safe, her past catches up to her. Can Sydney keep those she lives safe, and can Caden convince Sydney to trust him?

Oh my, this book was full of passion, secrets, and a building love! Caden and Sydney were a force to be reckoned with! Caden was stubborn, protective, possessive, and all alpha. I loved his methods for trying to get Sydney to talk, and as an experienced Dom, he knew when to let her come to him and when to step in and help regardless. Sydney was so selfless and lonely, I loved that she was trying to protect everyone at the cost of her self, and I love how easily she accepted her own desires! I loved the challenges that Caden gave Sydney, and while at times I thought he pushed her hard, she could totally handle him. I loved that Caden was her white knight, even when she needed a quick rescue around the ranch. The drama had me turning pages just as much as their passion and love! I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to seeing what will come next in this series!

First Time Reading This Authors Work A++

I really enjoyed the Characters the story line was a little hmm how can I put this...I guess it could have been better Sydney is on the run from her Uncle Mike who wants her shares that she received from her Mother after she passed. Hes in deep with a gambling debt and needs the money so badly he tries to drug Sydney into signing over her shares. She doesn't go to her family for help because it's only been a short time since her grandmother lost her husband and daughter and she fears what it will do to her to hear of her son's horrible actions. So she changes her last name and takes up a job being a cook for a Ranch in Montana. So there you go that's the basic beginnings to the plot but in my opinion I don't see how her situation is so terrible if she were a smart woman all she had to do was take the issue to one of her uncle's she could trust which is exactly what happens in the end except Caden is the one who makes it happen. But either way I loved Sydney's goofy personality, she's like a magnet for trouble and it's pretty funny. I really would have enjoyed reading more maybe a story about that sexy Sheriff or Cadens hunky Brother but sadly I didn't see anymore so not sure if this author plans on writing anymore but I'll keep checking. So anyways I do recommend this book if you're looking for a decent read.

I liked this book it shows a like different take on romance.

Sydney is a woman on the run who is going to a new job and comes across a barn out in no where Montana. She can't open the door it's locked so she looks through the window and sees BDSM for the first time. She finds that she gets hot watching. Then a cowboy comes out of the barn and throws her off the property. She still hasn't found directions on how to get to her new job.

When she finds where her employer is she starts out of her car and sees the very man that made her hot the night before, Caden. Her employer lets her know that under no circumstances does he mix pleasure with his employees but his brother goes behind his back and takes Sydney to see what it's all about.

When Caden finds that Sydney is there he decides to punish her for being there and for spying the night before. What he didn't expect was for Sydney to like it.

Then her past catches up with her and it causes trouble on the ranch but Caden has a different way of handling trouble than most people.
