Avery Lennox has been called many names, but bond mate was never one of them. Her position as Chief Security Officer for Cosmos Raines guarantees that her life will never be boring—especially after her genius boss decides to open a portal between Earth and Baade, a world filled with an annoying, male-dominated species called Prime—but after meeting one particular alien, Avery decides to pursue him through the portal.
The trip to another world was…indescribable, but it’s when she returns home that Avery is in the most danger. Someone else is as fascinated with Core as she is, and believes Avery is the perfect bait.
From the moment Core Ta’Duran met Avery, he was captivated by the human woman who shields herself with an icy demeanor and a gun. Avery knows he wants a lifetime with her, and even though she is fighting their bond, she still appears on his world with a tantalizing offer: three days together with no questions, no ties, and no regrets.
When he follows her back to Earth, instead of finding Avery, he discovers a menacing message left for him: agree to be hunted or Avery dies.
Can Avery and Core turn the tables on the ruthless killer who wants to display Core as a trophy in his private collection, or will Core lose the most crucial battle of his life?

Core’s Attack by S. E. Smith Book 6 of the Cosmos’s Gateway series. Science fiction romance with erotica elements. Best read as part of the series. Avery is the chief security officer for Cosmos and is in a prime position to learn more about the aliens that are going through the Gateway. She agrees to three days with Core, no strings, no regrets. She doesn’t want anything permanent which Core doesn’t understand but he is willing to play the temporary game. There is an evil scientist that is also interested in Core and he uses Avery as a bargaining tool.
The last third of the book is intense and full of jeopardy. Much of this volume runs parallel to the prior book and there are several scenes that are repeated in this book but from a slightly different perspective. Listening to the audiobook version, I had to check a couple of times thinking I had accidentally restarted the wrong book. I then referred to a print copy which I had and realized it was deliberately going over the same timeline. Don’t despair. It’s a romance so an hea is guaranteed. An entertaining and sexy hot series.
Core's attack is the latest entry is the excellent Cosmos' gateway series. The entire series combines clever well-written sci-fi, steamy romance and some well-written spy-action sequences. I especially love the RITA artificial intelligence that has self-actualised.
Love love this series! It was awesome! It had me from beginning to the end. I couldn’t put it down. SE Smith you never fail to give me a great escape into an awesome place.
Not Surprised. Awesome!! Kick ass heroine, yes. Sexy alpha alien, yes. Romance and Action, yes and yes!! I love, love this series with it's HEA's and continuing story line. I waited a long time for this story and was not disappointed. Can't wait for Runt's adventure.
Avery has worked as Head of Security for Cosmos for a number of years. She is ALWAYS in control of her emotions! But since meeting the Prime warrior Core when he came to earth looking for Merrick, she keeps feeling unsettled and off her game. Why can’t she stop thinking about him? She doesn’t believe in all this nonsense about mating marks and falling in love! But he is upsetting her equilibrium so she decides that she has to get him out of her system. Three days. She’ll give him three days of hot sex and then she’ll return to earth ready to work again. What she didn’t count on was getting her own mating mark. Anyway, there is still Karl Markham on the loose. Not only is he on the loose, he is trying to find either Merrick or another alien in order to hunt him! What he doesn’t realise is that Prime warriors are never the hunted for long and it soon becomes obvious that it is Markham who is the hunted!
Another enjoyable read from Ms Smith with an entertaining and riveting plot. Wonderful to have another story in Cosmos’ Gateway series. Great to spend time on Baade and learn more about the planet. Avery is a very emotionally closed off woman and it is hard to warm up to her at first. Yes, her childhood was difficult and unfortunately she ends up with a warped view of her parents love. Some rehashing of scenes from Merrick’s Maiden as there is overlapping in the storylines but from different points of view. The baddies view which was enjoyably different. Loved Core, he was such a careful gentleman with Avery but became the warrior he was when it was needed. Loved the ending. What fun is ahead.
Top-notch storytelling! It’s hard to pick a favorite series from this author; they’re all excellent, but this is near the top! Cosmos’ Gateway always brings thrills galore; from romance of (almost) bonded mates, to planning dangerous rescues, and hunting or being hunted! I loved seeing the teamwork as Cosmos’ crew prepares to annihilate the opposition. It’s awesome to see ‘evil’ get its ‘just deserts.’ The sassy, irrepressible, ever-evolving AIs make me laugh. Best of all is seeing Avery find the love she never expected to have. She and Core are perfect together. Splendid reading!
About time Ms. Smith!!! I missed your books so much!!! It seems like it was so long since the last Cosmos Gateway book!!! I LOVE this series. Although to be fair, I love all of your series!!! Cosmos Gateway is one of my top 2 favorites. This one had some particularly nasty bad guys. But they couldn't even conceive of Core!! Until he took them out!! I loved Avery too. My heart just hurt for her. But I could have told her you can't outrun love!! She gave it a helluva shot though!!! I buy everything Susan Smith puts out. As soon as I see a pre-order link, click!! She's the best!! She's autobuy for me!!
I LOVELOVELOVE this series. Just saying it once isn’t enough. There’s so much action, I can never predict what may happen next. The heroines are so strong and tough, but still lovable. The heroes are big and sexy, macho but soft for their mates. Core and Avery are both so strong and capable, and Avery seems so self-contained, it was hard to see how they would finally give in, but when they did— WHEW!
A good addition to this series. I really like Core and Avery really grew on me as we got to see behind the walls that she had erected. This story starts about when Merrick went back for Addy. Markham has killed his half brother, Weston but Avery is hoping to round up the last of Avalov's people. That includes the sociopath Markham. I am looking forward to Derick and Amelia's (Runt) story but omg what in the world have Rita2 and DAR been up to?! Lol
I enjoy Smith’s stories as she is able to give you suspense and action without true horror. The romance parts really work for me, too. Sexy without sleeze; between two consenting adults working their way towards HEA. Yes! The publisher’s description is pretty accurate, but it’s only part of the book. There’s a lot that comes before the challenge with Markham. Recommend.
It was so nice to return to the Cosmos' Gateway world. The romance, action and in depth characters are what I have come to expect from this writer. Core has grown so much since his first appearance in this series. Avery is a very complex character that I was so intrigued by. Last comment, the ending had me giggling and I find myself grinning every time I think of it.
The book was a long time in coming. I almost didn't buy it as I was tired of waiting for it to come. The book was good I wished it was a better ending to it. But overall it did clear up some characters storyline. I hope the next book in line doesn't take as long.
Ms. Smith is at her best when she writes about Cosmos and Company, the Valdier, Kassis, Sarafin, Curizan and Zion warriors and the Alliance. Core's Attack is a fantastic book! Sexy, suspenseful, and action filled, I could not put this book down! I love the characters, the storyline and the take no prisoners attitude. And the ending...Wow!
I was a little irritated at Avery for clinging to the past so fervently. I waited a long time to read Core’s story and I knew Avery had been ducking him since Tansy’s tale but liked her bold move as she tried to get him from her system. I am looking forward to Derek’s story and we already know Runt is no pushover.
I love her series. I have found them to be interesting, entertaining and just plain fun to read. I love the plots and the way she shows the characters being more than one dimensional. I do wish that there were more books in some of her other series, a couple of them has only one or two.
This series is like candy to me. I just can't get enough. The author continues to draw me in with this latest book. The broken characters steal my heart from the beginning and gains my support throughout. I look forward to the challenges the couples face. I also enjoy revisiting with the characters from the previous stories. A must read.
So the Ice Queen melts. Core is patient with his bond mate. He reads her memories a little at a time. Avery is determined to keep her distance from core but she cant. The call in love but Avery runs. Right into the bad guys arms. Core goes after her and together they take down the bad guys. Love it.
I somehow read this out of order. It's a good thing these are stand-alone books in a series. Now I have to go back to read Merricks Maiden. I loved this series. The action in this book is, can I say, out of this world. Then the next after Cores Attack is Saving Runt. Each book in this series so far has been well worth the read.
It just wasn't long enough.but it was great.I have to say this you have a great imagination an I am so glad you do.I sure do like your books but I do believe your books are getting shorter
Ok so as usual i had to get this book , I enjoy Smith's books( a lot). This was pretty good, not as good as the first ones but hey those would be hard to beat. I wish the Hunt had been longer. Anyway being on the next book.
First I want to say how much I love every book in this series and the spinoff series. This book too was great too. The last 25% or so was awesome though. Lots of excitement and action. It was fast paced and had a great ending, I loved it.
I really enjoy reading this series, hardly put it down ,love it from start to finish , really enjoy how I can picture both worlds from the story , interesting ending though ,can't wait for the next installment, will definitely recommend it to all my fellow readers.
This book in the series read like a Janes Bond movie. Yet, with heart. Core has grown from the first time we met him and. Avery is a force to be reckoned with. A great HEA with a thrilling plot.
Excellent addition to the series! Super crazy bad guy who I was happy to see get his just desserts by the end. Loved how Avery and Core learned to work as a team. Can’t wait for the next in the series!
Forgot how much I enjoyed this paranormal series. Writer knows what she’s doing and produces another good read that entertains and provides a few hours of escapism.
When I want a fantasy getaway I see what Ms Smith has in her arsenal of books. A little sci-fi, a bit of sexy romance, unusual characters, some action, some suspense - and I lose the world for awhile. Ahhh.
Avery's character had so much violence and heartache in her life and Core may be the answer. Core is patient and does not take Avery jumping through a gateway as an answer.
This is actually the 3rd book I read first and it was Wonderful
I read books 4 thru 7first and had to backtrack and read 1 thru 5. They were all wonderful. I loved the Thinks Neverland and am tied on books 4 and 6 as being my favorites.
