Rate this book
Improve your memory, sharpen your mind, and change your life—at any age!

As we age, our memories become unreliable; we misplace things and forget details. In Ultimate Memory Magic, memory expert Jim Karol shows that these side effects of aging are not inevitable. His memory-boosting system, called “Cogmental Intelligence,” goes beyond preserving mental acuity and actually enhances memory and mental function through lifestyle changes and mental exercises. Concentration, alertness, and focus can all be strengthened—by anyone, at any age. Karol’s cutting-edge program will show readers how to:

- Sharpen their thinking and regain their mental edge
- Live free from disease
- Get in the best physical shape of their lives
- Clear away negativity and stress
- Become more creative and innovative

A former steel worker who suffered from ill health, Karol used this method to transform his own life. Now he is physically healthy and renowned for his unparalleled memory. His incredible feats of memory and mentalism have been featured on The Tonight Show, The Ellen Show, Today, and more. Karol has used his Cogmental Intelligence method with clients from professional athletes to business leaders and speaks at venues around the world, from MIT to the Pentagon. With a foreword from bestselling author and physician Daniel G. Amen, Ultimate Memory Magic will allow readers of any age to hone their minds, strengthen their memories, and transform their lives.

I finished Jim Karol's Ultimate Memory Magic at the end of 2019. I can only conclude this this book must be my 2020 New Year's resolution to a better mind, body, and improved interpersonal relationships. Reminder to myself, don't put this book on a shelf now that you have finished reading it. Keep it in sight and open the pages not only to the pages marked but also to the many other pages that offer insight into becoming the best you can be.

Why has reading this book made such an impact on my thinking?

Jim Karol was told at age fifty that he was undergoing a health crisis that included cardiomyopathy as well as an enlarged heart. A doctor told him that his heart resembled that of his 93-year-old mother. He was told that he couldn't expect any improvement in his conditions. (x)

Ten years later, Karol asked for a repeat of the medical tests. The author had changed his diet, exercise, and had initiated memory training. The doctor was astonished to read the test results that revealed a reversal of Jim's enlarged heart. The doctor responded that Jim's heart now appeared as healthy as his own. (40-41)

(39) 8 key ways to acquire knowledge-read, write, listen, observe, experience, memorize, ponder, reason
(91) Practice and repetition daily or every few days assists the brain in assimilating new experiences
(100) Visual Link Method: Acronyms (101)/Peg Anchor System (103)/Names, Faces, Places (105)
(122) Healthy Diet/Healthy Mind (125) Teas: peppermint, passionflower, chamomile
(166) Anger-annoyed, irritated, resistant
Triggers: tired, stressed
Consequences: hurtful communications, others feel threatened
(167-168) Fear leads to fight-or-flight, strike back or run
(184) Relieve stress by means of the five senses.
(186) Natural remedies to reduce anxiety: Kava, Passionflower, Lemon Balm
(205) Reduce stress and improve thinking: Identify, Discern, Change, Let Go, Catch, Accept, Face Tasks, De-Shame, De-Clutter

I am grateful for receiving this first edition copy of Ultimate Memory Magic while it was hot off the presses. I can't wait to share the content of the book and the book itself with friends. It would make a terrific gift because it's one of those books where there is information that could benefit everyone whether young or in one's older years.

After a health crisis at age 50, mentalist Jim Karol decided to start improving his mind, with the added benefit of improving his health, his relationships, his career, and the overall quality of his life. Today, in his 60’s, he continues to learn new things, memorize new facts, do magic tricks, exercise his brain and his body, and enjoy life. This book explains the process he uses to accomplish this – so you can experience similar results. This is a very informative book and it has defined, actionable steps for someone that doesn't know where to start. Not only does this book focus on helping to improve your memory, but you will also work on improving your physical health and stress levels.

I do feel as though I was expecting a different kind of memory plan. I struggle with remembering day-to-day things, and while that is talked about in the book a lot of it talks about memorizing facts such as the capitals of all 50 states. These memory tricks would probably help me more if i was still in school, or if I was looking for a cool party trick.

**Thank you to Goodreads and Macmillan Publishers for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**

Educational and insightful! This book is full of facts about memory, self assessment tools and memory enhancing exercises.

Written with more of a narrative feel- this book reads less like a text book and more like a self-help guide.

I entered a goodreads giveaway for this book- and I am giving it to my dad for Christmas to hopefully help bring him some clarity. Thank you for the gifted copy!

Good book about emotional intelligence: self awareness, self-control, empathy and importance of communication in building long lasting relationships.
There were many obvious information why we should exercise physically and train our brain, this book included couple of interesting stories and for me it was a quite average book.

More interesting that I would have thought. Not totally reading like a textbook. Plain spoken English. Worth a read.

Made me aware of the possibilities and my own abilities using visualization to remember lists. However, I would have liked to have more instruction on the "how-to's".

I received this book in a giveaway from the publisher. I had a stroke at 28 and figured I’d give this a try. The book had many helpful ideas but they did not work for me. I am not sure if it’s due to the stroke, the book may work for other people.
