Rate this book
Tired of boys, Tucker Lane wants a man.

Detective Quade Marshall just wants to get his best friend laid. So, he takes him to his favorite gay club hoping Byron will get it out of his system before he has to do something drastic... Like kill him.

Byron Parker is not so fresh out of a bad relationship and isn't interested in meeting a new man. Not even when his partner and best friend drags him to his favorite club.

Until the pretty twinky/jocky blond spots Quade... then suddenly Byron needs to have him. But the blond only has eyes for his straight friend.

The problem is, the blond, isn't just any blond. He's the hottest quarterback in the SEC. And he has his eyes, and his kinky little heart, set on both of the detectives.

38,000 words with an HEA
And some daddy kink.

Well, that was...awkward. Everything about this book was awkward. The m/m/m aspect, the daddy kink, the way Quaid talked about gay people, the weirdly segued end drama. The daddy kink made me actually cringe when it popped up. Additionally, I've read a lot of MC's books, and like her other books there is a lot of super unlikely (although, maybe not technically impossible) back to back to back to back orgasms in an extremely short space of time which just throws me out of the scene. I think I'm over that.

I feel like this book was about 50,000 words too short for what it was trying to be but at the same time, the super weird dynamics between all three of these guys would have been hard to sell even then, but maybe the weird end drama could have been done better with more words and scenes. Mostly the words could have been used for actually showing us the team drama and the relationship(s) reconciliation(s) instead of jumping ahead.

This was too short and very confusing for me. I didn't really feel a connection between the characters other than lust. It just didn't work for me, personally.

I hated this. The story, the characters, the “relationship”, the ending. It was a mish-mash of hate and self-loathing that didn’t work for me at all.

ALERT: This is M/M/M done horribly wrong. The story is completely awkward, the characters are all weird and not in a good way, and the story is somewhat confusing. It doesnt help that the chemistry between the three men is just weird, oh and there is some poorly done daddy kink to boot. Just my take on it but this book feels like an after thought just doesnt appear to be a well put together story almost like the idea sprung and there was nowhere to go with it. Some of the sex scenes are really hot but that's really all I got.

4-4.5 Won't be for everyone, but it pushed most of my buttons. If you don't like much sex or threesomes skip it. If those things hit your hot spots like they do me, scoop this one up asap. Very hot threesome including one guy deluding himself that he is straight. Realistic? Nope. Didn't bother me one little bit. Read in one sitting, then hit the highlights again. Pretty please do an audiobook!

3.5 for this one ... I know it was a novella but I really wanted more, although I guess we always do ! I was certainly enjoying the flow of this but I really disliked the twist near the end. I believe a point was made but I really didn’t like it and dropped a star due to random act of violence.

DNF @ 21%.

PWP, except its not just the plot that's missing, but punctuation too.

LMAO this was a mess from start to finish.

This was not a poly relationship, this was a huge mess. This was just 3 guys that wanted to fuck each other. 3 guys that came with a shitload of baggage. Realistically, its not going to work. Tucker is in love with just Byron but not Q, not really, he just thinks he’s hot. Q is a mess. And Byron loves Q but its in lust with Tucker. At the end we see them all “together” but for me, its awkward and more like they are together out of loneliness and because of the circumstances.

The last half of the book was a big ass “WTF” and so unnecessary and only there to push the 3 characters together.

Listen, this was a mess. Don’t expect any romance.

Here we speak about sex and sometimes as a male, i enjoy a little of porn. And in this case the sex scene save the day, no real, no characters, no story but the picture is clear enough. If you want some romance or litterature, get out.

Can we consider this some honorary four stars?

I adored author's Light from the Dark and Courting Sin. They were just... we clicked. But they also felt great. And I still remember them. They had hot and sweet and edgy and some cool stuff and I... I... have been looking for that spark in other books.

So far, nothing surpassed them but I guess this one, at least, came closer than others, at giving that same kind of experience I got from those two.

Basically, it's a pretty short and no-nonsense (in that you won't see drawn out tons of side stories and side characters) - you have the night the three of them meet and get together, the times they meet again and... basically that is it.

It's not low on angst, I guess, though you wouldn't think so - I despise drama fests and this one, despite throwing around some heavy emotions and accusations, feel okay in this regard.

You won't get much time and much of progression, a lot of it is either condensed or you just, if you're feeling nice like me, say it was "cooking" for years so it's okay if some important life-altering decisions may be done in a short period of time.

I also liked the, prepare to be shocked, hate crime and bashing. Sure, it would be so much better if the world would be a place where you don't have to hide and see being "different" can literary get you killed but a lot of books go this almost absurd route where family and friends (a big portion) are suddenly LGBT allies prepared to march all the parades. And if that happens, cheers, if you just pray it would happen and live through that in books, cheers, but sometimes, here, it feels somehow honest or more "real" to have such a negative reaction from a lot of sides.

I was also, looking back, really happy with that ending. To avoid spoilers, let's just say it was... pleasantly vague. Sorting out one's life as related to your new Sweatheart can be hard so sorting out the life of imaginary characters as related to three... careers and wants... can be just exhausting. The book did not go on some long explanations of all the years they had and will have together, they simply showed yes, they stuck together, they are together and have dreams. Nothing more, nothing less.

It does have some love triangle vibes (which I am not sure how to feel about since) love triangles are part of the reason I enjoy reading trouple books in the first place - why chose when you can have both! But it was mostly okay and may be just a personal complainant.

Summed up: yup, definitely recommend.

The QB Connection

I felt no connection, QB or otherwise...
I didn't like this MMM story as much as I wanted to. Several reasons for that, in no particular order...
I didn't like these guys. Any of the three involved. They seemed petty, self-absorbed, 37 flavors of insufferable to be honest...
I also never felt these men even liked each other, let alone love each other. I didn't even feel their connection, their feelings or anything other than lust and it was more like just words, not the heat behind them...
Also, the weird punctuation throughout the book pull me out of the story at every other turn and that just made me feel more detached...
I didn't know beforehand there'd be a Daddy/boy thing going on as part of their dynamic but there was and I cannot, for the life of me, find that sexy or appealing in any way, or gender for that matter; so that also didn't help my case...

It's a one-off for me. I know other ppl will appreciate this more and I'm content with that.

I'll keep reading 📖

Wonderful

Something About Mercy’s books always leaves me a little sad. This one is no different. On the surface, it’s that hot sports romance people tend to like, but It’s never that simple. Also a story of how uncomfortable it can be for a man in denial to realise he’s gay and how hard it can be for a gay man to find a relationship. Also a good illustration of the difference between the attitudes of the current generation and the one just before it. But what this author excels at (and maybe it’s because she grew up in and still lives in the southern States) is showing that being gay is still not well tolerated in sport, and in some parts of the country as well. Also, if you’re a fan of her Southern Scrimmage series, there’s an answer to the question left hanging at the end.

💖🔥 A story about Tucker 21 looking for a man and finds Quade and Byron. Tucker was a footballer and very popular in status.
Byron (gay) 31 yrs and Quade (straight) where Detectives out celebrating Byron's birthday. Includes voyeurism, hot mmm scenes, a huge fallout scenes after for the three of them, domination Daddy kink, and a horrible scenes toward the ending. A hot book but also a great story for a MMM.

A really enjoyable book

This was really enjoyable but at times challenging too. Telling the story of Tucker Lane who gets recognised in a gay club by a couple of off-duty police. The plot was well written and I didn't want to put the book down to Carr on with life... Quade and Byron were the sort of men you wanted on your side, and would be there for Tucker for ever you would think.

I am confusion. I don't know if I'm too tired but it felt like I was missing half of what was going on. Like info randomly being added Idk. Especially near the end.

The second half was... something. It went from 0 to 100. Felt very out of place with how gruesome it was considering the first half was just messy relationship drama meet smut. And even the smut wasn't the best. At least it was short.

Mind blowing beautiful❤🧡💛💚💙

My mind is blown. This beautiful story just sucks you in from the start. Grips your heart, shatters it, and then puts it back together. You will need tissues. Ms. Mercy is my #1 favorite storyteller. I don't know how she does it. But, thank god she does!

I have enjoyed many of Mercy Celeste’s books in the past but this one read like a rough first draft (complete with so many punctuation errors it was difficult to read at times). Maybe a good story and interesting characters could have been uncovered by a decent editor, because there was real potential here.

First book for me

This is the first story i have read from Mercy Celeste. And I really enjoyed it. Two police detectives meet a football star while out one night. GFY and some Daddy kink with a twist in the end. Would have liked to read the three of them together in the epilogue, but loved the story.

Sweet

Really sweet story . Tucker hiding who he is , Byron who is happy with who he is and Quade who is adamant he is straight . The daddy kink is a very small part more. Wish it was a bit longer to explain how things end.

Mercy Celeste rocks!

Seriously- now I have to go re-read all the football books! Love the characters; just when I think I grasp them, she gives a little turn and boom- on my back saying 'what just happened' and off we go again.
