Murder is in the eye of the beholder. In this M/M nod to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Rear Window, Heston is a writer who spends most of his life alone in his own little world. One spring day he pulls up his window shades and sees more than he ever imagined.
The gorgeous and younger Icarus wants Heston to commit to love. To prove himself, he ends up trying to solve a murder without either of them becoming the next victim. A peek into a stranger’s life can turn from sexy to deadly in the blink of an eye. What you see isn’t always what you get.
Bestselling author of horror, thrillers, sci-fi and m/m romance, including The Whistler, I'm the Last Face You'll Ever See, The Four Corners of Horror and upcoming release They Kill.
Like his idol Alfred Hitchcock, he strives to bring suspense to his books.

A tribute to the Hitchcock classic -- throw out the broken leg, and the blond bombshell for a more modern take. A cute blond twink and his commitment phobic not-a-boyfriend watch the hot guy across the street with voyeristic fascination, speculating that his seemingly rough affairs and various other activities may coincide with a string of serial murders in the gay community.
If you enjoy horror and suspense novellas, you'll want to grab a copy. There's also a bit of cute romance, and a nice smattering of cult classic references. (Every Agent 86 needs an Agent 99.) This has the feel of a classic dime novel special, with modern sensibilities.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 4.5 griping stars! 🔥 Heat Level: 1-2 focus on the horror and thrill!
A thrilling, gripping and chilling story, where getting caught watching could turn deadly!!
This tale was spine-tinglingly haunting and drew me in from the start. A very fitting nod to Alfred Hitchcock and had the same creepy, edge-of-your-seat tension that is reminiscent of Hitchcock.
I really enjoyed Matt’s writing style and the words flow seamlessly to create tension and suspense perfectly! I loved Heston and Icarus and their connection and happenstance of window watching Heston’s neighbor. Matt created the perfect balance of dreams and reality and the twisted tale of a serial killer wreaking havoc around town. The dreams intertwined with the danger and darkness and twisted ‘reality’ just enough to keep me guessing and on the edge of my seat as to what twist could happen possibly happen next.
Matt’s mind for horror and suspense is not like anything I’ve read and I may have had to turn all my lights to read the pivotal climax! This story is a must for any horror and serial killer suspense fan. It was a twisted, tension-filled thrill, I devoured in one sitting! Get your copy now!
Another thriller hit from Matt! I don't remember if I've seen the Rear Window, and if I have, it's been many years. So I don't really remember. I know Hitchcock, though, and his stuff is amazing. I love how Matt turned this book out. Suspenseful and scary. Heston was enjoying the view from his window. He knew he needed to get out more, but the view he was getting lately was worth it. At least until the neighbor closed the blinds when it was getting good. But something was a little off about this guy. At least for Heston. Maybe it was because Heston didn't like rough play in the bedroom. But the more he watches, the more he notices things are odder. He tells his boyfriend, Icarus, about what his suspicions are and Icarus decides to investigate. They almost get caught, and the neighbor knows something is up. Heston and Icarus aren't sure whether to call the police on a suspicion, but they don't realize how at risk their lives are. Hopefully, they make the right decision before they are caught or killed. Being a writer, Heston already has a vivid imagination. Having scary dreams about a murderer isn't helping. And with a neighbor he's afraid is a murderer, triple time scary. And when Icarus goes to snoop in the guy's apartment?? I can't even explain the feeling there lol. Stupid comes to mind. I understand they didn't think they had evidence. Knowing how the law is, they can't investigate someone on a whim. But when his worst fears come to life, everything comes to a sharp point about his life. This is a really good suspense/thriller. Matt does a great job with them. He got in a little mindf@$k at the end, though. I wonder how many will notice it. Being with someone and making them your boyfriend is great, but not knowing certain things…...makes me suspicious lol. http://lovebytesreviews.com/
WOW... Damm I'm right there watching with Heston the scenes playing out. I don't really read horror stories but the author is brilliant in his other books. Icarus has a point with his quote about love. He's funny and wants Heston to be his BF. But things twist fast and you don't know what gonna happen. The movie quotes from the book was lost on me since I've never seen them but that doesn't matter. Heston has to figure it out who's the serial killer before something happens. Edge of the seat reading, dreams and what they may mean. Holly molley the ending of this is just Wow.. *note DON'T Read at night..lol eeek..
Heston was a window watching as two guys are getting hot and heavy from across from his apartment. Things drastically change and Heston hears......
Matt Converse's Window Watcher is a delightfully entertaining gay take on Rear Window. It's a riveting mystery/thriller that I had to read in one sitting.
Heston's not willing to commit to his lover Icarus, which is drama by itself. Add in a murderer and Heston seeing some interesting things through his neighbor's window, and things get both wild and dangerous.
The author did a wonderful job of making me question things along the way. As cut and dry as it should be, it still threw me of at times.
If you are looking for a quick thriller, don't miss Window Watcher.
A decent mystery that kept me on my toes. Well written and fast moving, I read it in one sitting. Lots of twists and turns, against the backdrop of a serial killer on a spree.
I really liked both Heston and Icarus. There's developing romance, but if you're expecting hearts, kisses and hot sex, there's hardly any. It's very low heat.
However, the murder mystery in this book was top notch. A short story, which packed a punch . Good ending.
I watched Psycho as a nine-year-old with my Mom. Many Hitchcock films would follow over the years. He's my idol. I dreamed of one day writing a book that would be a nod to one of Alfred Hitchcock's classics like The Birds, Psycho, or Rear Window. That dreams comes true on April 10th with the release of this book, Window Watcher, a modern day M/M nod to Hitchcock's Rear Window.
One huge challenge was writing a gay male character that could stand up to the character played by Grace Kelly in Rear Window. I feel I somehow achieved that with Icarus, who came to life and became an even bigger part of the story than I had planned. I love the way Hitchcock builds suspense, and I try to emulate that here. Like Rear Window, there is also a love story tucked into this thriller. I loved writing this book and I hope you enjoy it.
OMG. Matt Converse was trying for Alfred Hitchcock and he succeeded in a very big way! I was nervously flipping pages, thanking someone up there that the story was somewhat short because I couldn't wait to know what happened!!
As much as I want to ruin this entire review by saying EVERYTHING that happened, you know I won't do it...
I will give you this:
--There was a main character and his love interest --There was window watching --There were murders --There were creepy voices --There was mystery and intrigue in spades --There was talk of an unreliable narrator --Just when I thought I knew, I realized I had no idea --There was the tiniest bit of romance, but it was the cutest thing in the entire world and so worth it.
Gah. Go ahead and read this if you love biting your nails. I literally felt like I was in the middle of an episode of a Hitchcock mystery. It was wonderfully played out and exceptionally done. Bravo, Mr. Converse.

This short read kept me page turning while on the edge of my seat. I thought - It's him. No, it's him. Okay, it's him! Bravo on a well paced story with suspense and thrills to keep me riveted. And there was just enough humor to allow me a chance to breath. Favorite line: This blond hair comes with a brain!
Absolutely loved this book. Tension driven storyline from the first words. Matt Converse knows how to write a scary mystery. Keeps you guessing through the book. I am not one for scary dreams after reading a good thriller but, I definitely had bad dreams after this one. Good job Matt.
A short novella that was a perfect little piece of excitement. Very enjoyable. Not a sexy story but the main characters certainly had sex appeal. I would love to visit them again.
Book Review: Window Watcher Author: Matt Converse My Rating: 5 Stars Reviewed by: Tammy Payne- Book Nook Nuts
REVIEW New to me author. This book is all kinds of twisted and creepy. We get an author/writer who is losing his mind? Or is he? Icarius wants Heston but he wants none of that long term stuff, he likes what they have just fine. A neighbor though has his full attention although it feels wrong to window watch that is what Heston does and perhaps he is next? Everyone seems to know there is a twisted sick killer everyone but Heston. Not a bad story if you are into Alfred Hitchcock and such. There is a ton of mystery and suspense going on.
I'm not normally so critical in my reviews, but for some reason, I've been reading a few books that needed to be re-edited with correct words.
I actually gave the story 3.5 stars, maybe I should have put it at just 3 stars. I found the theme of the storyline good, the problem I had with the book was the author's poor reviewing and editing of their work. Or at least have a beta reader or two.
There were too many repeating of the same words within the paragraphs, plus writing the same question in the characters thought with only switching the words around. This just made the story drag on. But as I said I liked the story itself...just needed more editing.
This story delivered mystery, thrill, and romance. Being an Alfred Hitchcock fan myself I could see elements of his thrill factor in this story. Three of my favorite Hitchock stories came to mind while reading this seat-of-my-pants thriller, Psycho, Rear Window, and The Lodger. What I like most about this story ~Window Watcher~ is you don't really know if the author in this story is just imagining the events presented or if are they real until the climax. Maybe it's best to stay out of windows and mind your own beeswax.
A clever twist on Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” with with gay main characters. Our narrator, Heston, is a successful thriller writer with a very vivid imagination. Is the man in the apartment opposite really a killer or is Heston’s mind putting 2 & 2 together and getting 22? Read this pacy thriller to find out.
I was in awe of this story. I've always been a huge fan of classic suspense thrillers, and this new modern twist on the classic film Rear Window was amazing. Slow burn romance that sped along with heartstopping suspense.
Well, I always said this author packs a punch and he certainly did it again, an amazing, tense story, shortish but with so much emotion, suspense, and gritty characters, it puts you on the edge of your seat. A mm version of Hitchcocks Rear Window, done so bloody well it makes you bite your nails. Great stuff!!
A simply written story told from the main character's POV. No flowery language or descriptions. There was a good amount of suspense and tension woven throughout the tale. I just felt the author had some problems with logistics (locations and visibility of characters' actions from the viewpoint of the MC, the movement of characters, sound transference probabilities), and the repetition of written phrases. It was a good story but could have used a bit of helpful editing.
